O2 XDA2 - debranding? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hiya,
sorry to intrude - new user.
Is there a way to completely de-brand my xda2?
just successfully run the unlocking tool, but want to update windows, and ge rid of the o2 crap.
thamks 4 ur help, i'm a bit of a noob, but we all started sumwhere eh?

To get rid of the O2 software you need to do a hard reset, which will wipe everything you have installed so make sure it is all backed up first, and then when it restarts and says "Applying customisation in 3 secs" or something similar you need to soft reset.
Alternatively just flash it with a completely new ROM and upgrade to WM5 or WM6. Just make sure you have a Himalaya, XDA II, and not an Alpine, XDA IIi, as despite looking very similar they are competely different internally.

If you want to remove the physical o2 logo's on your device i have a great tip (my device was orange by default).
If you want to remove the logo's printed on the device, use a sugar cube and rub over the logo with it. it will look as if you are scratching the device but you aren't. Afterwards, cleen it with a wet tissue and voila. it's removed and the silver shine is still intact.
I did this a while ago, i think there are some tutorials about it online too.

Problem there as the O2 ones are more than just a transfer/sticker, they are a physical embossing on the case. Removal is damn near impossible without wrecking the case.

Removing O2 logo

Hi,
Is it possible to remove the O2 logo from the top title bar on my XDA II. It appears between the Start menu header and the Signal Strength meter.
I have two reason for wanting to do this - the first is it appears over the top of any program name that is too long to fit between it and the Windows logo. The second and most important is that I can not stand O2 :x . I have just managed to get out of my contract - due to them not being able to sort a problem I was having - they had been trying for 15 weeks !!!
I am now using my Orange sim in it.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Many thanks
PS great forums guys
o2 logo.
Me to!
Not sure how to do it,or if possible.Any ideas anyone? Thanks.
Uninstall all the o2 software (v2ractive or summat) Cause its crap and you dont need it! then delete the directorys the remove programs program tells u it couldnt delete then reset ya device simple! I did it cause the o2 software is a pile of smelly pants
Cheers.
Worked like a dream. Now all I need is an MV1000 case to replace the O2 one

wooo hooo i have my useses!

Restoring UK T-Mobile Firmware?

Hi there,
I've just had a replacement Vario 2 after the previous one developed a number of faults, only to find that the new one had the tight screen surround problem. Loosening the screws and using a credit card around the edge hasn't sorted the problem, and I'm not prepared to dismantle the phone.
Unfortunately, before I found out what the issue was, I updated the firmware according to this guide, updating to Black Satin, rather than Black Majik, although obviously the problem with the screen is still there.
The thing is, I'd like to restore the original firmware, ie the original software, or at least make it look as though it's as it came when they gave me the phone. I've done some looking around for replacement firmware, and found one referencing t-mobile and the UK, but it hasn't changed anything - there's still the Black Satin splash screen when the phone turns on. I guess the main thing is removing that really.
So one of two things really - how do I remove the splash screen and make the phone look 'out-of-the-box', or where do I get the original firmware to restore it to it's OOTB condition?
There are a couple of dumped T-Mobile ROMs on the FTP site - one is ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Hermes/DUMPEDT-MobileUKRomUpdated.rar - I have no idea if it is a WM5 ROM or not, so it's up to you if you want to try it or not......"no warranties, express or implied" ;-)
There is another guide on MrVanx's site that explains what steps you need to follow in order to downgrade successfully - here's the link.... WM5 Downgrade Guide v2
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!
Cheers,
Mark.

Bricked Hermes / No GSM and impossible to flash radio rom

Hi,
A friend of mine upgraded his Hermes with WM6 Rom, and everything worked fine for some time. One day, the pda stopped responding from time to time. I think he tried to correct this flashing once again his TyTn. But the upgrader frozes too. He even disassembles it....
And here I get it... Now it is blocked in the boot screen (IPL 1.04, SPL 2.03). I tried the KITL method, but it doesn't seem to support KITL mode (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1162054#post1162054 At step 3, I'm unable to attach the device).
I tried the SD Card flashing with some random ROMs, but I was not allowed.
I 've just downloaded the official WM6 Rom from the HTC website, but the upgrader is stucked in the GSM part for a really long time.
I have a screen like this :
HERMING.nbh
IPL - OK
BOOTLOADER - OK
SPLASH1 - OK
SPLASH2 - OK
EXTROM - OK
GSM -
OS -
Update In Progress
I don't know how long I should wait or if there is something else I can try now.
Has someone any idea ?
Thx
With mtty and the "set 16 0" command, I'm now able to boot windows mobile.
Unfotunately, it's not over, I have now a "No GSM" message at boot time.
Based on the "unbrick Hermes" wiki page, I installed HardSPL and tried to flash the radio different ways, but none worked
(classic RUUUpdater, the progressbar is stucked at 7%, SSPL+nbh)
Does someone know how to use rerase ?
Hi, now I have the same problem - OS is ok, but GSM ....
Did you unbrick you Hermes?
Unfortunately no.
Even when I put the phone in flight mode, the Hermes freezes after a few minutes, and I need then to soft reset it.
im having the same problem whats the solution to this no gsm thing
First of all, sorry for my English. I have news for you. Our problem cannot be solved with flashing any software. At least in my case flashing couldn't help me. It's hardware problem. Two minutes ago I saw the version of my radio instead of "No GSM" after rehotting the TyTN motherboard. Now it's working normally, I can call and receive calls. All atributes in "Start->Settings->System" of working radio (Radio ver., protocol ver., IMEI etc.) now also are present. And I think many people with suddenly corrupted radio have exactly hardware problem in their PPCs. Thats all news.
ATTENTION!!! If you never solved any hardware problems of mobile devices, please DO NOT try to repair your TyTN by yourself.
Well, how did you solve the hardware problem??
mircha, I've already said, I reheated (or rehot? I don't wich word is correct in this case, please tell me correct variant) CPU, flash chips and other chips on my TyTN motheboard. I made it with special equipment for hardware repair. For other TyTN owners, it's better to send your PPCs to service centre.
Youmoussa, I'm almost shure that your problem is in hardware, because my TyTN also freezed after 3-10 minutes. Since I wrote my previous post (yesterday), it didn't freeze anymore and works perfectly.
Symptoms of hardware problem:
1. Hermes freezes after a few minutes, no reaction on button click, only soft reset helps
2. Updater stucks in the GSM part forever and you have screen like this:
********************
HERMING.nbh
IPL - OK
BOOTLOADER - OK
SPLASH1 - OK
SPLASH2 - OK
EXTROM - OK
GSM -
OS -
Update In Progress...
********************
3. mtty can't calculate CRC of radio ROM
4. before "No GSM" problem Hermes sometimes lost network.
The 2nd and 3rd symptoms mean, there is no physical contact with chip containing radio bootloader and radio ROM, the 4th one means unstable contact with chip
I'm pretty sure you're right about the fact that it's a hardware problem. I had almost the same problem with my Wizard and I open it, it works better.
I haven't tried yet to open the Hermes, but with the Wizard I remember that I couldn't really see the cpu and others because of a steel plate (did that mean something in english?). Is it the same in the Hermes and if yes, did you succeed removing it to gain access to the components?
I have a manual to disassemble my Wizard, is there one available for the Hermes ?
Me toooo
Hi i have the same problem
What is the correct meaning of reheating? Can you make a little description? or can ich send my mobile to you to fix it?
where can i geht htc orig wm6? cannot find it onto the website

Hi,
A friend of mine seems to have played with his Hermes without knowing exactly what he was doing (I guess he wanted to do just like me...).
He upgraded it with WM6 Rom, and everything worked fine for some time. One day, the pda stopped responding from time to time. I think he tried to correct this flashing once again his TyTn. But the upgrader frozes too. He even disassembles it....

Guys, what's the purpose of disassembling your Hermeses? Anyway, you won't be able to repair it without soldering station(photo of soldering station), instruments and knowledge. I used this instruments and I have knowledge and experience.
Photo of Hermes motheboard. The radioblock is in the green square, The CPU and flashchips are in the blue square. Do not pay attention to red square.
instinctless, I think it's not a good idea to send it to me for fixing. The delivery will cost twice as expensive than repair. I'm shure you'll find a service centre a little bit closer to your home than Russia, Far East (Far East is the most eastern region) .
have you changed any parts in your hermes?

No I didn't change any parts or chip, just soldered.

It's not that i don't want to send it to a service center, its just that they charge a lot of money that i don't have
I have knowledge in electronic, I studied it in college. I have already soldered things in my life, so I think it's worth a try.
Theres a htc service manual floating around the forum. Its the technical manual they give to the service centers. It shows you how to disassemble your hermes. You will need a size 6 torque key, a flatblade and phillips head screwdriver.
Remember though, YOU WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY...
For those who are brave, the hermes is pretty tough and resilient, unless you are REALLY rough you won't break anything. just remember to go step by step and take your time. racing ahead means you forget things, connecting ribbon cable for keyboard, battery release switch and camera focus switch are the three that come to mind.
Is pretty easy, JUST TAKE YOUR TIME, its not a race...
Cheers....
Here, got the manual for you guys....

Disassembling is the easiest of all what should be done. Youmoussa, you have knowledge, but, I guess, you haven't got needed instruments listed in my and ultramag69's posts. I can't explain you how to repair it, because of my poor English. I'm shure the are many tutorials in your native language wich can help you much more then I do. The only thing that I can say is what chips must be reheated. By the way, the steel cover which hide the CPU, Flash chips and other chips can be removed very easy with dental needle (it looks like hook). And I told you one more time: YOU CAN DAMAGE YOU DEVICE!

Reset from NAND Android to WM6.5 for warranty claim

Hi all... I've been very happily running NAND Android on my HD2 but for a few months the touch screen has been having problem... now the phone is barely usable.
T-mobile in the UK have said the phone is still covered by warranty (24 months by HTC).
I have reset to RUU_Leo_S_TMO_UK_3.14.110.1_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe from the T-Mobile UK site.
I then used HSPL4 to reset to SPL2.08, I'm not sure if this is the shipped SPL or if this is going to be a problem.
The phone starts WM6.5 OK.... obviously the screen wont work because that seems to be a hardware problem relating to the buttons below the screen....
Is this all I need to do though? the last thing I want to do is send it off for T-Mobile to then refuse to do anything with it. Any further information will be very welcomed.
Thanks.
Rerun hspl4 and choose 3.03.0000. 2 reasons, only tmous uses spl 2.x as stock making it obvious something fishy went on, and (more to the point) 3.14 roms come with 3.03.0000
For future reference, if you had flashed it by SD card, it would have done the spl bit for you.(though I personally do it the way you did,,, flashes much quicker over USB than SD)
Thanks for your help Sam, I'll do that now then.
All done... will call them and arrange for them to look at it now..
Out of interest is anyone aware of any HTC diagnostics... the sort of thing that will more specifically identify handset problems... e.g touchscreen or buttons.

Noob with a rare phone... Q about debranding?

Greetings to all from a noob... I bring you questions about my first smartphone - a Docomo NTT branded Fujitsu F12C (it can dive underwater!) running Android 2.3.4...
Now... it is full of Japanese language apps and generally the menus themselves are... I'll stop short of calling it "broken english" (because it's not that bad, but still slightly strange). Also, the keyboard input is cluttered with Japanese input keys and options.
I tried uninstalling a lot of the apps but half of them remain regardless.
So my question is - how do I clean up this phone? Is it called debranding? I've read about debranding and flashing ROMs a bit... but I concluded that I need to find this 'ROM' for my particular phone... something I've been unable to do... Is there anyway to simply install a generic Android OS onto it and start from there? I don't really care about voiding warranty (the phone is made in Japan which is a warranty in itself) but I do not want to risk destroying the phone at the same time (it cost too much).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I never heard of this phone until now. I googled it and was WOW by how awesome it looks and all the features. ANYWAYS, the only way I think you could possibly get rid of all the Japanese menus and stuff like that is to possibly try to do a factory reset to where it prompts you for the setup and select English as your language and re-enter all your google account information and such......GOOD LUCK bro as I also found that there is little information on rooting this sucker let alone having custom roms for it.

It is a really nice phone indeed. But I tried the factory reset... It only deletes any data I input beforehand...
I guess I just have to wait for it to become more popular?
hello, my friend, do you know how to do a hard reste on this phone, a forgot the patern lock and a c'ant use the phone
So, my dad dropped his phone, cracked the screen. Only way to repair it was to send it back to Japan. Instead of repairing it, they sent back a brand new phone. A locked new phone. Wouldn't give me the sim unlock code so had to send it back again. Finally came back still locked!
Does anyone know anywhere to get the unlock code? Just sad throwing away $700...
Only Docomo shop unlock this phone and do not give unlock code, if you want unlock you have to bring to Docomo shop.
