A newbie needs Help upgrading - G4

I have read and read and I am even more confused. Your advices are appreciated.
Just got me an I-mate K-JAM with WM5.
It is both CID/SIM unlocked as reported by WST 4.2.2
IPL 2.16.0001 G4
SPL 2.16.0001 G4
Radio 2.07.10
I am using it on T-mobile.
I would like to upgrade it to WM6 or WM6.1 in as easy steps as possible.
Since it is G4 and CID unlocked, do I still need to do the SoftSPL or HardSPL on it as some guides say?
Can I just load a new ROM ? Please tell me which one(s) I should look at ? And will they keep my IPL/SPL at 2.16 ?

if it is unlocked you should be able to load it no prob hard spl will cid unlock (what you say your phone already is so you shouldn't need it).... but you will no for sure when you try and flash.... you won't be able to. as for ipl spl not sure depends on the rom you'll have to check with the developer.

A G4 device cannot be CID unlocked,you are wrong here,WST_4.2.2 will never read and confirm a G4 phone as CID unlocked.Run the WST_4.2.2 and read carefully,it'll definitely confirm it CID locked.
YES ! as G4 cannot be CID unlocked at all,however,it can only be upgraded through either 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL',there's no other way.

Is it locked or unlocked? Am I doing anything wrong? Is there another way ( other than flashing ) to see if it is locked or unlocked ?

Dont pay WST any attention, your phone IS NOT CID unlocked, G4 devices CAN NOT be CID unlocked, they can only be made to think that they are.
What you need to do is apply HardSPL to your phone, which will make your IPL and SPL read 2.26.0001 and 2.26.olip or something similiar(read the thread on HardSPL for the specifics), you can then upgrade to any G4 safe Windows Mobile 6 or 6.1 ROM that is availible here. I recommend using the latest TNT version(20273), as it is currently the most stable version available.
I have made a guide that is available in the G4 section that includes some screenshots and all of the neccesary programs to get you up and running. You just need to download it, and the ROM of your choice and off you go!
