I am seeking inputs on wether I should get an HTC Elf (128/256mb version)
I will be clocking both the machine and Run Manilla 2D.
How much performance improvement will I see compared to HTC Prophet in term of speed and video performance.
Thank you all.

Now that WM6 English AkU0.3 wad released, which ROM do you think is faster for you?
WM5 AKU 3.3.3
or
WM6 AKU 0.3.0..
For me testing of speed is not only depends on benchmarking. The best way to check it is to run heavy programs for each ROM and see how fast they response to the program. Like playing high resource demanding games like Azgard Defence ,Machine War ,Zio Golf Tiger woods etc..
In WM6 they run smoothly...thats it!! Which means for me, WM6 is faster..
WM6 is faster and able to handle heavy applications smoothly.. There is no jerk in between application.

a litle bit slow on booting but faster on processing...
this is so fast and also quite stable . its worth of trying
go to www.filehippo.com, you can find a lot of application including Activesync 4.5
i tried to benchmark this ATOm w/ wm6 using sktools..
BENCHMARK i
184.11 Atom Pure WM6
while others..
172.56 HTC magician Wm2003Se px416mhz
196.64 XDA Trion WM5 samsung400mhz
216.15 HTC universal WM5 pxa270 520mhz
Benchmark defines
benchmark is the act of running a computer program, a set of programs, or other operations, in order to assess the relative performance of an object, normally by running a number of standard tests and trials against it. The term, benchmark, is also commonly used for specially-designed benchmarking programs themselves. Benchmarking is usually associated with assessing performance characteristics of computer hardware, for example, the floating point operation performance of a CPU, but there are circumstances when the technique is also applicable to software. Software benchmarks are, for example, run against compilers or database management systems.
Benchmarks provide a method of comparing the performance of various subsystems across different chip/system architectures. Benchmarking is helpful in understanding how the database manager responds under varying conditions. You can create scenarios that test deadlock handling, utility performance, different methods of loading data, transaction rate characteristics as more users are added, and even the effect on the application of using a new release of the product.
No fair comparing the Atom with those, riden <_<
It's already SLOWER than an O2 Mini by default >_>

sorry this is the only info i got..if you can share other info ...thanks
is there any easy way to increase the graphics performance of this phone?
for example with i slide the slider on s2u2 its not a smooth movement, can i fix this?
thank you
easy ? in a word -> no
but i know that some brave guys are working on a graphic driver which should improve niki's performance...
still some patience needed...
oh ok....i did not think so.
its just annoying that my touch series 2 has better graphics performance that its much higher spec'd cousin.
patience is my virtue.
Maybe some of the performance tweaks you can find in the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Niki) will help some. But I don't know if that will increase the graphics performance, they sure did improve the performance on my Dual
thank you. i will try them out and let you know.
if not my dual is calling me
I don't know if all of you are facing the same problem. I am using a Dopod 818 PRO upgraded to WM 6.1 (Green Edition 15.4.08 Update) currently but I have tried almost every other WM 6.1 ROM out there, all seem to be giving me the same problem.
When I start typing a message, it stores commonly used sentences, words etc fast and with ease but I notice once the T9 dictionary becomes larger in size(more words in it), the response starts becoming slower and does not take in input as fast as its initial one.
This problem can be overcomed once I enter the Input properties and "Clear Stored Entries" but then it starts from scratch without any user defined words in it.
Any suggestions other than disabling the suggested words option? It's really handy and I like it very much but the only annoyance is that I type fast and the lag is kinda irritating. Thanks!
Actually that is the same case for me.. And since i type pretty fast with PhonePad, the slow speed has forced me to go back to WM6.. And i have also tried almost every wm6.1 rom out there!
Its not much slower in WM6.1 than WM6, but its noticeable especially if you type fast..
yeah.. oh well =( we'd just have to wait for some genius here to figure something out.
Cheers
blame your prophet's weak 200mhz TI-OMAP processor..
thats the problem..
thats why i prefer using keyboard than phonepad

Two points: one, it's clocked at 195 in the Prophet; two, the same software works fine on newer HTC Devices (the HTC Touch uses the same OMAP 850 but clocked at 201MHz).
Which leads me to believe it is to do with the specific exes/dlls, and where they have been ported from.
registry error?
i think this caused it
So only option now is to downgrade to WM6?
But I have no heart to do so! 6.1 is wayyy better in almost every way
had the same problem what i did and helped a lot was disabling the key sounds
then it came fast again.... hope this help
thanks.. will try it =)
The fantastic HD2 came out with Manilla 2.5 (HTC sense). Anyway for porting this over to the atom life?
I hope this is possible, even though I understand that the HD2 has a far far better processor that can handle the load compared the atom. There seem to plenty of 6.5 ROMS - any manilla 2.5 or even 2.0 ROMS?
Well, the Atom lacks good 3D support. So in the end it's not possible to have Manila 2.0/2.5 on our Atom. Next point is that the Atom has only 64MB of RAM - this is definitly too low to run manila smoothly. And it looks so that no one is even interested in porting Manila 2.5 to QVGA.

There is a manila 2d.cab just for atom life, cooked and tested on my atomlife for 1month now, still in good shape.
checkout the some links here at XDA, i forgot where i got it from. If you still need it, PM me [email protected]
Good luck.
which rom??
none, go read the forum like the rest of us.
Technically, there are no 2.2's with sense even from HTC themselves. That changes on the Desire today or tomorrow.
G
None at the moment, stay tuned for updates!

.......... PLEASE POST IN GENERAL or Q&A NEXT TIME. thanx
htc desire will have 2.2 with sense but they wont post it till closer to xmas according to what Ive read.
who knows what will happen though, xda is a pretty smart place.
okay that there's no official 2.2 with Sense, but devs made some Desire 2.2 with Sense, as I see

Isn't it possible for Hero too?
Hero Froyo AOSP is in its early stages as it is so a sense froyo will take much more time.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/29/evo-4gs-android-2-2-update-starts-trickling-out-tomorrow-loads/
It's coming. August 3rd, 2010.
Didnt people start froyo as a port from the N1? if so then a port from the Desire wont be any harder as its same hardware? i am probably be wrong but nevermind!
There are 2.2 Senese ROMS for us Desire Owners. I think its not possible to port it to the Hero. 2.2 Sense is for Powerful devices
We really need Sense on the Hero, that's the major thing that is lacking on Android 2.2 at the moment.
Oh well if not then Ill have to wait to upgrade my phone to whatever is the next main standard android phone after the Desire.
Would not be so sure about that, most heros can hit 700mhz, not that bad a speed.
My work laptop runs WindowsXP and Ubuntu, with only 800mhz.

MHz has nothing to do with performance. A Celeron D can run at 3GHz and will still perform more slowly than an underclocked 2GHz i7 series CPU.
In the land of mobile CPU's, our hero is very old. Even if it matched snapdragon in frequency, it would still lag behind.
Guys, are you serious that you prefer sense than launcherpro?
The only thing I missed from sense is the social network sync by contact, no big deal.
Go install Fusion Rom (Froyo) + Launcherpro and be happy!
Its not only the Laucnher. HTC has Skinned ANYTHING! And it looks great.

The CPU, or in fact the entire setup of my Thinkpad X22 is around 10 years old!
This is what used to piss me off about PC`s, people constantly seam to want bigger and faster, and 9 times out of 10, its not even needed.
It would appear that smart phones are going the same way.
For somebody to say "no you need a more powerfull device" is just pure spoon fed, marketing bollocks.
Remember the good old Amiga, or even Spectrum days, performance increases were done by the code, not like the daft PC way of doing things = "just bolt another cpu in under the bonnet"
Look at something like JIT, huge performance increases, simply by making better code, no need at all for a larger cpu.
The legend will get froyo sense in q3.
We'll port it and it will run pretty flawlessly, except that the camera will have problems like current cm6; has, until someone manages to compile a .33 kernel for the hero, including a fixed camera driver.
