Changing the Housing... BIG PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP!!! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi, xda... I am a quiet user here, but i love your forum... it's like godlike for me, but now to the point!
So i got a HTC TyTn HERM200 and i used it for one year, so i figured that i cud buy it a new housing because its old housing looks simply used out! So i downloaded the HTC TyTn service manual to see how to change the housing perfectly right! So i did! I changed the housing perfectly i didn't miss a thing!
BUT... obviously i did...
Now wen i slide the keyboard open, the screen wont rotate anymore! I am desperate, cuz i tried everything.
Maybe some of you who changed the housing before me can help me out, give me a hint or something...
I DID READ the WIKI... there was nothing about my problem, please, please... HELP ME...

you will have to take it apart again to check but I think your new cover may be missing the magnet (lets hope anyways) The magnet is in the bottom half of the case that houses the screen, on the right side of the edge that is closest to the key board when slid open. It looks like a little piece of metal, if its there, touch something metal to it to make sure its magnetized

TyTn Housing

Hi,
Has anyone purchased one of the HTC 8525 OEM housings from cnn.cn. If so what was the quality like and are they new housings? None of the re-branded TyTn's seem to use this housing so I'm wondering if they are manufacured specifically for, or by, cnn.cn?
Also, what are the service and delivery charges like from cnn.cn.

Thanks in advance.
I bought a blackberry case from them and it arrived in 8 days. Great service for 5 USD in my opinion.
I'm curious about that tytn housing unit too.
They have taken it down for some reason.
O was gonna try it.

I might as well just add to this thread
You guys think this is worth a shot? The last owner of my phone jacked up a couple parts of the current housing.

That'd look great on the 8525. You may want to check this out for a step-by-step guide.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1152710&page=1&pp=15
Judging by it's looks, it only works with Hern100 devices (8525, m3100, etc) and wont work with the TyTN. (herm200)
I could be wrong though.
The D-Pad layout is a bit different, but if you get the D-Pad
http://cnn.cn/shop/cingular-8525htc-hermes-outside-keypad-p-1610.html
and what goes under the D-Pad, you might be able to get it to work.
But that's kind of not worth the effort though.
I am yet to find a stylish housing for my tytn. It's all scratched out but I hate that Dopod housing.
Since there is no flipping way, HTC is going to make the original housing available to anyone, it would have been nice if someone came out with a more stylish design.

I'd love to pick up an all black housing like that but it has one thing that keeps me from doing it.. the front facing camera hole. since i have an 8525.. it would just be an open hole on the front of my phone which would look dumb and get lots of dust inside.

I have one on the way..
is it really hard to get the original HTC grey version? I've seen loads of the dopod versions, some with some without the video button.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=290143857315&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019
is htc but dont know if button configuration is right for hermes 200 (Anyone confirm this?) does that have video button??
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....PageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015#ebayphotohosting
Its the closest one ive seen to mine but branded CHT DOPOD
Ive seen people ask htc to replace it but had no sucess. Its really annoying considering we all dont keep the phones forever and selling them off is harder when you cant get the original housing replaced.
that black htc housing DOES have the video button but the layout is different than the herm200.
the red hangup button and the green phone button are not on the right place on that case.
I have taken my tytn apart. What goes under the D-Pad in herme200 looks different than the ones in herm100. Even if you did get that case and the right d-pad, your buttons wont fall on the right spot. therefore the phone button and the hangup button wont work.
I wonder if HTC repair center would replace the housing.

Replace Vario Housing

Ok, so as the title suggests, i'm looking at replacing the housing of my vario (cause its scratched to hell - keys in pockets, and the odd drop )
After looking at http://cnn.cn/shop/8525-blacksilver-full-housing-p-198.html was wondering whether these were suitable for straight swap? as obviously the keypads are different between the herm100/200/300 but i'd keep the original in as its in good condition, and wouldnt mean i'd need to swap the pcb underneath either?
Or am I barking up the completely wrong tree so to speak?
Any help appreciated...especially for you Vario owners who have changed their housings...any problems you came across etc.
Cheers!
bump surely someone must have done this already?? all these reads, and no replies
SEARCH THE FORUMS BEFORE POSTING THREADS
kthxbye =p
i've already searched....n yeh it mentions swapping with an orange 3100 housing...but thats something i'd haveto find on ebay etc...doesnt mention the 8525 housing on cnn..... so was wondering if the keypad fits or not, as the front faceplate is scratched to hell so would need to swap the whole casing...not just the middle/rear panels.
Try this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OEM-Housing-f...oryZ3728QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
Cheers for the link Paul. That listing seems to claim that you can replace a vario with that housing, so might aswell just bite the bullet and go for it I'll probably look at getting it from CNN still, as they will work out slightly cheaper (~£32 compared to ~£45)

Vario II to be more precise. The Vario is a HTC Wizard.
Any success with replacing? Is it hard to do? I have some scratches myself, and would like to change the housing. Have a TYTN
I havnt had chance to order the new housing yet, as i was skint until payday I'm going to hopefully get it ordered within the next couple of days.... I'll keep you posted on how it goes!
Still no one with experiences?
On this site there is a GPS antena available for TyTn... can we then enable GPS on the TyTn??
http://cnn.cn/shop/8525tytnhermes-antenna-p-1615.html
I've seen an HTC Hermes Case on this site:
http://www.cellphonepartszone.com/Products.asp?shopxpbe_id=64&id=281
but it's not completely clear to me on how to order and pay... (i'm Italian)
Hope this will be useful and you'll understand how to order the case...
Still no one with experiences on changing the housing?
Sei semplicemente un grande..la cover originale è impossibile da trovare!!
However no succesfully experience to swap the housing because in order to be able to change them (Cingular/HTC 8525 and also from Orange but i can't remember the name) with a TyTN, because the internal keypad membrane of the buttons at the top of the phone are (hope for now) impossible to find anywhere. I'm still looking for..

I think enabling GPS is a little more complex than that - there were some required connections on the chipset that are not connected - try searching this forum...

After I had changed the housing the screen doesn´t change into landscape mode
Hi!
After I had changed the housing the landscape mode isn´t activate itself while openning the keyboard. It did only once. It seems like the problem is of physical matter but I checket out all again and it seems to be all as it was. I don´t have another complains about functionality.
For those who wants to change the housing I have to say that that takes alot of time. And before you will waist money for a new housing make the following steps:
1. Look a this one verry carefully and be sure you have all tools you need.
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Docs_Tutorials/Wizard_Service_Manual.pdf
2. Think that you will need some stuff that you will put between new housing and touchscreen. (I took the old one but it isn´t a good idea).
3. You will need some glue to glue the old parts to the new housing (obviously the housing is more than just this plastic case).
If somone could give me an good advice related to the screenmode while opening I will aprecciate that.

Your device does not rotate anymore because you have not moved the magnet from the old casing to the new one. The magnet operates the rotate switch. See here:

what did you do???
When i changed the housing i didn't see the micro little magnet that was on the old housing, that you must replace from the old to the new one... it is a tiny little magnet!!! But i found it, it was on the back cover inside of the LCD part of the phone (or PDA/PPC)...
it was really hard to locate it, but i found it! SUPERB... now i can live happy with my new look old Hermes, a smooth black housing that i got on ebay...!!!

HTC Touch pro 2 FULL Housing now on EBAY (non OEM)

Just saw this on ebay...Im a fan of housing and facia. But i know %98 of TP2 owner right now dont wanna touch the Hardware section of the phone.( for customizing)
It Just nice too see that we can tweak not only whats inside but also the outside too... Im just hoping for a nice fit and high quality. Its too early to tell how good this housing is but i wanna know soon.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORIGINAL-HTC-...s_JN?hash=item4cea1e075a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
I also noticed that a couple days ago but they only offer red and blue right now. I'm not savy enough but I think it's a cool options
For that, did you know how to dismount the TP2 ?
Looks like not really easy to operate at first glance...
You get a screwdriver with it ... just find all the screws and replace!
wait few months... dismantling this phone will be on youtube!
I noticed those when I bought my TP2 last week... to bad they are only red and blue. I would be down for black, or maybe a nice dark green. They look nice from the photo. I don't like taking apart slider phones... PITA
The Wing wasn't so bad. I did the whole thing solo since my brother broke his screen and there weren't any dismantling guides available yet. It's easier than you think... just don't force anything and keep a sharp eye open for screws.
The only problem with swapping the case for a T-Mobile version is that you have to keep the T-Mobile keyboard. The layout is unique to T-Mobile and the HTC version (as well as other carriers) vary from model to model.

It's really easy to swap cases. I had to replace the screen on my room mates Kaiser which is a slider tilt screen device as well. Took me 40 mins tops & I had to completely disassemble it. Will probably have to again soon. He broke his screen a second time lmao. The one thing I'll note though is for T-Mobile, the whole device is different basicly. The screen does have a tappered edge & the screen cover is bigger & the battery cover is a completely different design. the Stylus doesn't go through it. So, the T-Mobile wouldn't be completely changible. As for the keyboard, that can be changed via ROM. The HTC Kaiser has a different KB Layout than the AT&T Tilt, we just install a CAB to "fix" this as the ROM's are made for the HTC version. Also, the Sprint/Verizon/AT&T(From what I read) have Headphone Jacks. You could arguably use only part of the kit, but for $80-100+, I want one completely compatible with my device.
As for Colors, there's a full silver/full black/& black & orange version available. I wish they made them available in pieces so you could mix & match parts. For example the Battery covers.
Anyone knows whether a housing is available for the european version? Mine has some ugly scratches due to close contact with the asphalt Can't find a new housing though, only bezels... I need a new grey edge around the keyboard to which the battery cover is attached aswel. Is this even possible?
Luckily, the keyboard, screen and batt cover are still intact, and the phone is still functioning properly. It is now protected by a plastic rubberized case and a screenprotector.
Help would be very welcome!
I'm thinking about giving this a try to replace the screwed up button layout that ATT provided. If I can just swap the buttons and the remap the keys with a cab file I'm thinking I can get the QWERTY keyboard back to it's original form.
Anyone else tried this?
Jon
Tried going to the link but it appears to have been "removed".....anywhere else?
This one is working for me.

The above dismantling link has been in the XDA-Wiki for several months now.
So what? If someone asks a question and I can help, I sure will. Or should I be an smartass and tell it's around here, use the search... Maybe it's your thing, not mine.
i'd like to try to replace the bezel on the screen-part, it's got little wholes and even a completely crushed section.. but according to the link you'll have to disassemble the whole keyboard-part in order to do that.. isnt there an easier way to replace the bezel??
just wanted to let everyone know that I have the black/blue case from ebay china. It took 3 weeks but I finally have it.
After taking apart my g1 and 90% housing conversion from white to black. I accidentally cut one of the ribbons off and broke the phone. So im a little scared to take apart this $400 phone. Didnt mind the g1 because there dirt cheap and easy to find another one.
If you all can gather some links and any guides I will probably convert my tmo tp2 to the new housing sunday mourning. unless someone can confirm that its extremly easy to switch housing.
Just an example of the g1 dissemble.

ive been modding hardware since everyone had a nextel i730. ive seen alot of crappy poorly made housings in my days. usually the first and second generation batches of housings that come out are poorly cut, or made of brittle plastics. i would advise that when looking for housings(especially for expensive devices), that you get a 3rd generation housing and look on youtube for directions.
So excited.
I am trying to covert my T-mobile touch pro 2 soon. The full housing will arrive in 2 days. I dropped my precious on the pavement.... T-mobile housing is nowhere to be found so I bit the nail. Hopefull it's going to turn out awesome
Check this one for taking apart. flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157621828152091/

Dismantling/Assembling Htc Touch 3g... I need help!

Hello
Hope everybody's fine.
I bought Htc Touch 3g housing set from ebay and I want to change the old one.
I found a very good dismantling guide here:
http://translate.google.co.uk/trans...orka/htc_touch_3g/&sl=ru&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
I haven't tried it yet. But I opened my Phone and I think I am going to have trouble at step 5 6 12
specially step 6 { I don't know how much pressure to apply to unplug it?! does it have any lock above the wire or not }
and what about stick in step 12? it is ok to dismantle it ...but what about assembling it again!?
Any help is regarded
Thank you in advance!!

il be doing this in the next week or so , when the digitiser i have ordered today from ebay arrvies. dont think you will have too much trouble, normally them cables just slide in and out or have a latch you slide back or lift to release cable, cant tell from the pics, but it shoud be easy. the stickytape you shoud be able to put back after, if not use some double sided underneath it to fix it back lol .
il post back when iv done if you havnt attempted it by than, and let you know how it went. am not looking foward to seperating the digitiser and casing oh no
Hey dear...
thx
So please come here and update us...
I had several rainbow in my digitizer...I fixed it very very easily by this method....:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682676
my jade lives again, so am happy
i was right , the ribbons for the lcd are the plug type, you cant rally mess this up unless you push too hard at a funny angle, just lift from underneath like in the guide. the digitiser has a black clip that you lift to release the ribbon than slide it out.
i never removed the tape from the lcd, but did from the ribbons and re used it after, if all your doing is changing housing, just remove the button pcb and lcd as one like i did , its eaiser
i was right , removing the old digitiser was a right pain, but i got there in the end lol.
i totally agree with the whole moisture thing, cut my old one up into layers and moisture in the wrong place will sure mess it up. il try it if it ever happens again so thanks for the info
hope this was helpfull
Hey
Thank you for reporting back
I want to change my housing....I ordered it and received it...
But I want to change it several months later
What was the hardest part? In which step damage to phone is possible?
Please tell me...
Thank you in advance
in all steps damage is possible, just have to use common sense. your most likely to do damage to the lcd if your too rough removing it from its clips. if theres nothing wrong with your original housing and your not confident enough to do this its prob better you dont. if it aint broke, dont fix it. or if your me, modify it lol.
so, how did do go about it then?
any feedback highly appreciated, since i need to swap the digitzer on my jade!?
my special interest lies within step 12 of the guide from pdacenter:
is it necessary to unstick from the screen plume front buttons? if i only need to change the digitzer?
looks like i can extract the whole section by just jumping to step 13 and loosen the screws and then extracting the whole lcd, in order to get to the digitizer...right?
