Shes dead jim! - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Well it happened, every phone lovers worst nightmare! I noticed my phone was buggin out today a bit, when I received text messages the light was blinking RED not ORANGE. I had a full battery so that was not an issue..anywhose. So I get a text and check it about 15 minutes later only to find my phone was off and would not turn back on . It has not been dropped and has not been wet. I've taken the battery out 20 times and tried to reset it..I've put it on the charger and still nothing! Ima freak out if I don't get this thing fixed soon.
Oh and by the way before you say it's the battery, I tried the battery out of my friends Titan with no luck. He stuck mine in his phone and booted up just fine.
Any ideas? Please help a brother out.
Sincerely, Sad Sad Panda

And one more thing...I have a backup of my setting using QPST. Does that also backup all of my phone numbers as well? I seem to have lost my memory card in which I had everything backed up on.

The only thing I can think of to check is the USB prongs to make sure they are not bent and or touching each other. Other than that you can try the hard reset by holding down the two soft keys and poking the reset button on the bottom of the phone and see if that will wipe it and let it run again.

thanks for the reply....already tried that with no luck..

Hopefully it is still under warranty and can be swapped out. Good Luck.

I have insurance on it...no idea about warranty though.

no worries, if it wont cut on, and the service dept cant fix it, they'll swap it out, and if they dont have it there at the store, they will next day u a new one free of charge... i got my new one for the same issues today, on a holiday!!!

Well I got a brand new one
Cost me 90 bucks though...installed new rom and all that jazz. I can send pic msgs but downloading new pic msgs doesn't seem to be working grrr!

I got that issue working, I still need my question answered about QPST answered though. Will restoring an old QPST configuration file restore all of my phone numbers??

No, QPST is totally different.... Your numbers are lost unless you find your sd card....

That's exactly what I thought. Thanks for the reply bud.

IF you have that happen ever again with the phone not turning back on...
plug in the USB/ Headphone adapter (not a charger)and then try to reset. normally it works everytime ;-)

Well you are using radio that I never have used but what arcsoft cab are you using?

Suggestions before placing 8525 for sale

I bought the phone thinking i could fix it... i have tried all the suggestions on resolving white screen... i have attempted to load Schap's cooked rom 4.22 and not luck... the phone powers on, syncs up i can access the files thru windows explorer... it charges... but still just shows the white screen...
Now after multiple attempts at loading the rom, i was able to get the today screen up once, but then it went away...
I have the phone, battery, charger, usb cable and software cd....
Since i can access the files thru explorer... is there anything i can do that way to see if i can get this phone working? maybe some files i can delete or replace...
I have tried the hard reset and soft resets adn nothing helps..
when i try to load the TNT rom when it gets to the part that its going to begin loading, it kills the activesync and then complains that its not connected or has been disconnected...
Anything else i can try?
Read this page, maybe you'll find the necessary help.

Two things to try if you've not...
1) Open it up (it's quite rugged!) and check the screen connector is plugged in OK. A lot of white screens are simply loose cables apparently. There is a thread discussing this here. Also Mikechannon is your hardware guru and his website has some excellent information about disassembly/reassembly that should help you out.
2) Try using the application "mymobiler" (freeware) - which allows you to see your hermes screen on your desktop PC when connected over activesync. I've put a mirror of the setup file here until 23/01 as the www.mtux.com site was timing out occasionally while I was looking this up for you (might be my end tho!)
Finally - I don't recommend attempting to flash any more ROMs until the screen issue is updated as you can't see whats going on and there is a risk you could end up with a weirdo hybrid-type brick
Good luck - Hope you get it working and if all else fails (I know you don't want to hear this) but I'm sure some of us here would be interested in slipping you a few quid for spares if the worst came to the worst...
I had almost given up on the phone once i was offered money for it.. i originally took it apart and only checked the connections on the main motherboard.. and that didnt work.. after reading the HTC tech manual and noticing that the LCD also had a cable that connected to a slot and not physically part of the screen i decided to open the LCD casing also.. and sure enough it was the LCD screen cable.. unless you really paid attention you would have never notice.. but i could see a slight angle on the cable connection, it was barely lose on one corner.. i re-seated the connection closed it up and less than 5 minutes the phone was working...
THANK YOU!!!!
I was able to fix a phone i bought for $75 and loaded TNT rom on it lastnight.. and have been customizing it the rest of the night and today...
Funny part is the guy who sold it to me, said it only need to have the ROM reloaded on it..
THANKS again for the suggestions and links... i have saved and booked marked everything..
I guess i spoke to soon... after posting that i was on my way with a nicely used $75 phone. The screen started to fade white....
Using My Mobiler i can see my desktop of the phone.. i can access and do everything... but the screen is white.. and it still functions as far as touch screen, so if guess at where things are i can tap on them and the phone reacts...
So now im back to square 1 with the phone, but atleast this time i know that it is functional software wise just cant see anything..
I opened it up 2 times since it went out and re-verified all connections.. everything has been reseated.. still no improvement.. if im lucky, it will come up to display but once i start tapping around on the screen it will slowly fade out to white...
I have noticed that alot of people have mentioned that after getting the white screen they load another rom on the phone and works for a while then starts to act up again.. can someone tell me how they are loading a rom on a phone with a white screen?
I mean i know the phone works besides the display since i have My Mobiler i can see and do anything i want on the phone.. but thats only good with a active connection thru activesync...
I dont want to try and reload a rom on the phone and mess it up more than it already is..
The screen will display for a few seconds sometimes.. and then fade out to white..

Turning off

I just purchased my HTC Amaze five days ago and it is randomly turning off. It hasn't happened while using it, but it seems like every day now it has turned off while I haven't been using it. I push the lock button to unlock the phone and it is simply off. When I turn it back on everything is fine, but it is getting really old having to turn it back on so often. At first I thought maybe I was holding the lock button too long and accidentally turning it off, but that is not the case and the phone has been sitting on a table most times it has turned off without a case so the button isn't being pressed accidentally. The battery has more than half of the charge left so that shouldn't be the problem either. The phone just has the standard tmobile apps that came with it so that shouldn't be causing a problem.
Is this common? Is there a setting on the phone that turns it off automatically after awhile or at a certain time? If there isn't a setting is there a way for me to fix the phone or is it simply defective? I didn't buy the extra warranty, but I am within the 14 days to return the phone but it says on the box there is a 50 dollar restocking fee.
I bet there would be no function called automatic turn-off on this phone...and personally I have never faced this issue so far, during my half month period of daily use. Even there is a charge (which I never know), I would still suggest go for exchange. Random turn-off may relates to hardware defect, and is difficult to fix through software change. Try another one and hopefully that would take your headache away. Good luck.

Exactly what I think.
OP: If you are within the grace period, you can exchange the phone without restocking fee, especially if your device is defective.
Good luck!
Two other things I thought might be completely unrelated is that whenever I turn the phone on it says no sim card and then recognizes that there is a sim card and gets a signal and starts working immediately after that.
The other thing is that it says new voice mail whenever I turn the phone on, but when I check the voice mail there is none.
I took the sim card and battery out and put them back in. The no sim card message on start up is gone for now at least. The odd thing I noticed when I put the sim card in is it seems to slide in too easy. On my old phones I am used to a little bit of resistance when putting the sim in, but on this phone it goes in really easy, almost too easy. It seems like it could be easily jarred or even vibrated loose.
Is it supposed to be so easy to slide? Would the phone turn off if it stopped recognizing the sim card?
Thanks for the replies, I haven't ignored them, I am just trying to avoid having to go all the way back to the store, but I will if it shuts down again.

A loose sim card causing shutdowns? Hard to imagine how.
I just checked mine, and the metal restrainer is keeping my sim card pretty tight. It is not supposed to be moving around as you guessed.
My sim card sits pretty tight too. The "no sim card" message also pops up every time I turn on the phone. Guess the phone needs a short period to detect whether the sim card is there. For the voice mail I have no clue yet, check with your carrier maybe. Within the grace period I guess you could use this loose problem to support your demand and hopefully the store would not charge you any.
For the random reboot issue, try to do a master reset and that should help. I had that same problem the first few days i used it but after the reset it went away. It wouldnt hurt to try. Just remember all the free apps you downloaded because they will go away.
Sent from the Proud owner of an HTC AMAZE
For the ghost v-mail...use a different phone or have someone call you and leave you a v-mail...as soon as you delete it the ghost voice mail will be gone too. I used to get these all the time on my HD2 and when I called T-Mobile that is what they told me to do...works everytime, until it pops up again. It was explained to me that it happens because you HAD a v-mail at one time and it got stuck in limbo when you deleted it, thus a ghost v-mail.
Thank you for all the help. The factory reset fixed the phone. It hasn't turned off once since I reset it several days ago and it was doing it every day before. Leaving a voicemail also fixed the voicemail that wouldn't go away.

Already on my second Titan II

I was just curious if anyone was else was having the issues my first Titan II was having.
I just got it yesterday and within 2 hours it started trying to reboot itself only to freeze on the ATT screen. I would then turn the phone off and then turn it on and it would start working again. after another 5 reboots the phone would not get passed the ATT screen no matter how many factory resets I did. When I went to the Microsoft store to get a new phone (because of an obvious hardware issue) another customer next to me had the same problem.
Luckily the Microsoft store just gave me a new phone and I am a happy customer for now, my second phone seems to be working great.
I have no issues related to that at all to report.

OMFG...
I thought it was me but my new Titan II is doing the exact same thing of freezing @ the ATT screen. When I first got the phone and turned it on without a sim card installed , it froze at the ATT screen. I figured the battery wasn't charged enough. I then charged for 4 or 5 hours and the same thing freezing.
Then i figured it was the fact no sim was installed...still same problem.
Then out of the blue it started working normally. I thought hmmmm, maybe break in period...
I worked fine for about a day and a half, then while on a call, on speakerphone, i heard this kind of loud static sound and phone went dead. Then turned it back on and again froze at ATT screen Turned if off again and it worked again. Since this was my backup phone, I set it aside to try and decide if I bring it back would they beleive me or not. Knowing my luck, if I brought it back for an exchange, the thing would probably work fine in front of Microsoft employee and they'd think i was crazy. But not after reading this....
This phone is going back....I'm so glad I read this forum...
Thank you!
Did you make sure the back cover was on securely? If the cover is not make the proper contact to the pins inside the phone, the phone will shut off.

Are you sure? As with Titan this is not the case.
The pins inside the phone and the pins on the cover have no mechanism to support phone power. It only supports the network coverage. By bending or pushing them away there are good chances you will lose LTE or 3g and without complete contact might lose the network completely too!
BTW, I think HTC needs to get their act together. AT&T Titan's launch batch was rubbish and so was UK Titan launch batch. Nearly 50% had to replace the first handset (if you look at the old threads).
I am presuming you bought it very close to the launch as well so are still in the "launch stock" ?

Well I brought it back and they exchanged it without the blink of an eye. They said they've had a few returns already for this same freezing problem for this particular phone ...They also said something to the affect that since this is a new phone it still has a lot of bugs in it...which in a way sounds resonable...
I turned on the phone before i left the store...it worked...let's hope it continues to...

Can anyone please upload a pic of opened Titan II!
Would be good to see what they've changed as Titan can work without the back cover with ease.

Actually, That is exactly what I asked in a thread I started about the titan's signal strength.
But, since nobody posted a picture of the titan II with the back cover off, I started to do my own research on Google and I now understand why nobody posted it.
It is impossible to take the back cover off the titan II !
It has a uni-body design with no battery cover and no removable battery!!!
I don't really like this ...
Here is a pic of it with the slide-off panel for the sim card slot;

According to the review, in the case that the phone locks up, you can turn off phone by taking off the sim cover. Actually a pretty slick idea to mimic a battery pull when the battery is immobile fixed in the phone. I was wondering why it turns the phone off on my Titan 2

[Q] Emergency calls only?

My friend dropped her X2 in water the other day, she put it in rice for over 24 hours. When she powered it on, the only way she can get it to boot up is through fastboot, I guess is what it is? By selecting the boot android option. Once it's booted up, she's only able to make emergency calls and can't do anything else. But I figure that if she is able to get it booted up, then there is some hope or that there may be some type of solution. Has this happened to anyone else (maybe minus the water part)? Any one know of a way to fix it?

That's pretty crazy weird, but I believe it, I literally splashed my DX with like 3 drops of water and it killed the entire video system. Anyway, best I can think to try is start with a factory reset and cache wipe from stock recovery. Of course, if she can connect to the phone via usb, she should back up any pics and whatnot. If the wipe doesn't work, you can move on to an SBF, see if that helps.
Maybe others will have another suggestion, so maybe sit still until a few people reply to this thread and see what other options come forward.
Best of luck.
I completely submerged my first X2... pulled it out literally as soon as it went in. I suffered from the exact same problem, I also put it in rice for over 24 hours. Absolutely nothing worked and I had no choice but to get it replaced. Hope she has better luck than I did.

Yeah I'm thinking there still has to be some hope if it boots up and graphics are still working, right? lol. That's crazy. I dropped my old Samsung Vibrant with T-mo in the pool once. It sat in rice for 24 hours, nothing worked. I couldn't even get it to boot. But the next night I opened it up and there was some type of dust-like stuff. Maybe corrosion, on one of the circuits. I wiped it off with my finger, put it back together. And it still didn't work, but what do you know, next morning it was working perfectly. Like nothing ever happened. Coincidentally it started working while I was in the Sprint store replacing it. haha. So I actually advised her to do that. There might be some water or corrosion on the inside. The guy in the video walkthrough I watched on youtube dropped his in a lake and said there was still water in it after having it in rice. But she is going to try the factory reset first.
Thank you for the advice, though =]

wow that's weird. She also pulled it out as soon as it went in. and it wasn't even completely submerged. She dropped it in the toilet. lol don't ask. So it wasn't completely covered in water. The thing is she doesn't have the $100 to get it replaced. She's unemployed right now =[ Hopefully she'll find a loaner from family/friends.

Does the usb jig work for Samsung Galaxy Light?

Hi, I have a problem with my T399n.
My phone doesn't turn on, I installed CM12 and it was good, then I flashed the stock ROM from metro again, everything was good about a month, one day I made a call, whatsapp, text and then I put it in my pocket, then when I pulled it out like 10 minutes later and it was rebooting, I didn't pay attention to this because sometimes my phone reboots itself, later It was power off. I pulled the battery, reinserted it and nothing, connected usb cable, nothing, tried to charge it and nothing, Its like my phone died. Looking for a fix, there is the usb jig that work with others galaxy's.
So I just want to know if I'm fried or if there's a last hope to revive this phone with the usb jig
Thanks!
Something similar to this happened to me, would love to know the answer...
just today...
just today, not 2 hours ago at most I was playing around with my galaxy light, deciced to root and mod it.. first step was to, ofc flash a custom recovery... well like most things I pursue I ended up fighting the damn thing for HOURS!! could not get it to register on my computer for the life of me.. now I'm far from a dev and probably one of the least experienced on/around here but something so trivial as lack of drivers, udev, faulty port/cords isn't my forte.. so eventually I whipped out my handy dandy usb jig and .... nothing... *head scratch* hmmm.... now its got my attention... so I get out the multimeter usb data/charging cable and it does show signs of life, easily registering 5.1v / 0.4 mah ... now I'm getting anxious.... so its time for the next test... usb-otg connected to dbl usb-type-A converter to connect to the pooter (it never works but I wish it would ) and nothing there... so otg to my main mobile, reverse it... hmmm seems this lil guy is taking in charge and no data xfer of any kind... since id already rotated various cables I turned my attention to the charging port.. under 6x magnification and too many lumens light I could hardly see any problems but persisted with the 99% isopropyl anyhow... end result "wtf is wrong with this garbage....?) and just as I went to throw it at the wall I spotted my personal "boneyard" where all of my former problematic/faulty devices end up and just in sight was another tmobile galaxy light, broken lcd but logic board intact.. so a quick flip of the wrist and a smack on the back and the 2 became one... fired her up, plugged it in and BAM.. instantly detected... and for some reason I cant quite seem to put my finger on, I had the urge to power it back off and insert my usb jig one final time to see if it infact would work with the galaxy light.... *device in left hand... jib in the right.... bead of sweat steadily sliding down my ruffled brow... time seemed to all but come to a screeching halt as the two came closer until the moment of trust had arrived... the initial contact, the penetration (lol) .. the pause... BOOM factory mode*
so, now that u read that half illiterate rambling from a barely educated redneck shut-in to determine if the usb jig works with galaxy light or not .. the answer is yes... it does unless its a piece of crap like one of the 2 I own is...

It does in fact work. If asking about the USB mount, from my knowledge you would've had to already installed them by turning the function on like I did in the first screen shot.
If you need them I can link them to my drive or mega. Whichever is best. Think I have drop box still too.
And yes. I have bricked this phone I'm using now for a solid 3 days when I first started with it. However cm12 has bugs, after the second time it rebooted and bricked on me I went back to Tigerlily I even had no SIM error but somehow fixed that when flashed back to stock. Cm12 caused me to flash back to stock about 3 times a day. Too much headache. Guess thats why we are not supposed to do this to our primary phones. on tigerlily ive Had a little trouble keeping super su in his place too, Got home last night and POOF, just gone for no known reason. finally got him to stick by installing him into the system with lucky patcher. Flashify, flashfire, and even rom installer all failed to keep him there. . I have also stripped down almost every file just for fun to see what other fine items I could damage, Finally found where they hide the dialer codes for the phone. They are not in any files that i have spent the last for years looking in. The codes are inside of the APK. The last place I decided to look. Everything I know is self taught and just recently started working with apps for windows 10 and merging android files into windows apps.
Now , I'm actually quite impressed with it's capabilities .
Really what's helped me dial everything in was the helped of an app called Mixplorer with all the ad-on's all of which are free.
Good luck with your brick. Myself, I have 3 other phones I'm currently working on unbricking. One of which is a hard bricked LG motion. Flashed th err wrong firmware to it a year ago. Just this week got the cup to recognize it. the code to get into the first service menu pictured here on the bottom left is *#0808#
