Losing Connection When Flashing ROM - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi Guys.
I just got a Fuze after waiting since June and I'm proud to say it's my first smartphone. So I wanted to put a cooked ROM on it and I figured out that I need to use Hard SPL for any ROM.
When I go to update the ROM with Hard SPL it goes to the progress bar on my computer and the device starts the enterbootloader.exe program. However, the second that enterbootloader.exe starts and the device goes black, I lose my connection to my PC. What am i doing wrong?
Thanks
Dan

Which OS?
What OS are you using? It my not have any significance, but with my old AT&T 8125 (HTC Wizard), I could only successfully flash my ROMs using ActiveSync with Windows XP.
Every time I would try to do it with Mobile Device Center in Vista, I would lose connection as well. I don't really use XP anymore, so I now use VM Ware to boot virtually to XP whenever I flash my ROMs.

I'm using vista, and when I installed Hard SPL I ran the SSPL (Soft SPL) and it did make my screen black. However, windows still picked up a different driver and I was successfully able to write the HardSPL while the screen was black.

im using windows 7 so that may be the problem lol

hardspl install problem (noob here) [vista x64, no sync w/ bootloader]

This is my first post, though I've been pouring over the forums everyday for a few weeks to try to get up to speed. You may notice that my join date is quite recent, but I only recently signed up! I finally replaced the broken usb port last night and then flashed wm6 from htc onto my hermes. This morning I've been trying to install Hard-SPL-V7, which failed, then I successfully ran the SIM/CID unlocker, and finally tried to run HERM-SSPL which failed. What seems to be happening is that after syncing and running RUUWrapper.exe the device goes to the bootloader screen:
Code:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
But doesn't do anything else, and then the PC reports a disconnect error. I think that the device is supposed to reboot after going to the bootloader, but it doesn't. I have noticed that shortly after going to the bootloader, it flashes a white screen with red text, and then returns. It's so fast I can't read the text. After the error prompt on the pc (vista), I soft-restart the device and it returns to the today screen where everything appears to be normal.
What am I doing wrong? I read the guide for installing the hard-spl. RUU_signed.nbh is in the same directory on the pac as RUUWrapper.exe. The device isn't bricked. I'm stumped.
I appreciate any and all help. I know it's painful to keep answering the same questions over and over again, so I promise that I've been searching for an answer in the wiki and on the forums.
Also, thank you for these utilities, roms, forums, etc. It's amazing that so much is being accomplished by apparently so few.
***UPDATE***
More information is always better...
After wmdc is connected I run RUUWrapper.exe
I check Force using SSPL and go through the prompts...
Code:
From:
Image Version : 3.62.502.3
To:
Hard-SPL-2.10
The device goes to the SSPL as opposed to the SPL, I think, and displays this:
Code:
HERM100
IPL-SSPL
HERM100
SPL-1.09.ds
Then the pc prompts 'Verifying ...'
The device stays one the bootloader screen, and then the pc prompts:
Code:
ERROR[260] UPDATE ERROR
When I soft reset the device, it comes up to the today screen, and going to the bootloader displays this:
Code:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
OK, I think I know what's going on.
I thought that I had gone through installing the vista x64 drivers from the guide but I hadn't. It doesn't matter much though as vista x64 really doesn't like unsigned drivers. I've not been able to get past that. So the issue was that vista x64 can't sync with hermes in bootloader mode. OK, fine, I guess that I'll be working with XP. Why oh why did I decide to try vista x64...
Has anyone else found a solution to this?

Id stay clear of vista when trying to do flashing stuff....it REALLY just messes with all aspects of the process, regardless of if the WMDC is up to date.
Best thing to do is to get 32bit XP fired up and use that its just so much easier and everything else you use wont have to be patched/tweaked to behave on XP. LOL my vista config guide should really be a sly 'Uninstall vista, format and install XP SP2......guide'.
when you ran the SIM/CID unlocker, did you run it from your Storage card or did you use your usb to install? i think i had a similar issue. it would always give me the error 260. First, i sim/cid unlock my phone via storage card and it said unlocked and everything, but it still gave me the error 260. then i decided to just try to SIM/CID unlock via USB and when i did that, i didn't get the error 260 but instead it updated to Hardspl v7. hope that makes sense.

Thank you both for the responses. I ended up going home and flashing on my xp machine. Our new work machines are 64bit and I had several options for os, and silly me, I thought vista x64 sounded like a good idea. It's been a challenge.
Anywho, hardspl is installed! I also flashed the black 3.0 wm6 rom, though my keymapping is strange for the additional key functions. I'm off to research an answer on that. Thanks!
Would it be possible to install virutal PC on vista 64-bit and just run a virtual instance of 32-bit xp? I guess my real question is whether it is possible to flash the phone from a virtual pc.
-thanks.
hi,
Yes, it is possivel , i do it, i recomend you using VMware soft, because virtual pc doen't have USB support.

8125 rom probs

first off, let me say that i have a vista(32-bit) and a winxp(64-bit) machine so flashing has been fun *sarcasm*. I have been unable to set the hard spl on this phone. Using ShellTool, i successfully wrote a wm6 rom, was liking it. I then went to try a newer version of the rom and i get stuck at the HTC screen that shows IPL/SPL of 2.28.0001, GSM 02.25.11, and OS 11.0.4.0. I can hard boot and I can enter the red/green/blue bootloading screen. Is there anything I can do with my setup to re-flash an OS on here or am I screwed? thanks in advance
There's no need to upgrade through Shelltool,it can easily be upgraded through HardSPL.
Secondly,HardSPL doesn't work on vista and winXP 64 bit,for HardSPL to work successful ,do it on WinXP 32 bit, there won't be any problem.
this being the reason i used shelltool, it worked successfully on a TNT rom, was hoping to upgrade to the newer one. i've been debating the fact of putting xp32 on here too, thanks though

Problem with At&T 8525 mobile

Hello Everybody,
My mobile at&t 8525 alias HTC 8525 is stuck in windows operator logo.It would not boot further. It happened while I tried to upgrade it from Windows 5.0 to Windows 6.0.First I got a tri-colour screen, but in a hurry I tried to backgrade to windows 5.0 again.
Other problem the mobile cannot be synced. I have installed Microsoft Active sync 4.5. Even then it could not be synced.
I tried to read all the posts ,but could not understand anything.
So please help me in getting my mobile repaired
Don't worie.
I had somewhat the same issue with a bad ROM flash.
Just disconnect the USB and boot to the bootloader screen (the tricolour screen) and you should be able to reflash the phone again.
Problem in syncing the mobile
I am not able to sync the mobile to the laptop.I have installed Microsoft Active sync 4.5. Even then it is not syncing. So how could I run the hermes upgrade if the mobile is not helping.
Please help
In Activesync on PC - Untick "Allow USB Connections".
Put the Hermes into bootloader (tri-colour screen) and connect by usb. Run the RUU_Wrapper.exe file you want. Follow onscreen instructions.
You need to have installed Hard SPL V7 for this to work...
did not work
Hello Boss
I tried to follow the procedure you suggested me. but it did not work. I tried with Hard SPl 7.0.
Please give me some suggestion
you dont need an active sync connection to flash it. Enter bootloader(tri colour screen) as you were told in the previous posts and Just click on the boxes that you do have a connection(even though you dont) and then flash the rom.
@ultramag69 i hve never had to untick allow usb connections and i have cocked up loads of rom flashes, saying that i have never had a problem flashing in vista either so maybe i am lucky
If you still cant flash doing it this way, then maybe you should try flashing from sd card instead, just make sure the battery is fully charged. Full instructions of how to do this are found in the hermes wiki, which i advise you to read anyway.
Oh and good luck anyway, you should be able to recover the phone from this ,so i wouldnt fret too much
Guess he isnt hardspl'ed... then his batt is death... must to flash a shipped rom.
correct me if im wrong.
Problem with upgrade At&T 8525 mobile
Hi!
I'm having problems with my Cingular 8525, after I made the upgrade to WM6.1 (FARIA-R32-XDA2_WM6.1.rar) for WM 6.5 (FCWs_stock_like_6.5_v3.rar), and slowed my device does not work anymore. He died.
I need help please. How resurrect it?
Excuse my English.
english is not the problem here cause we need more info... device info SPL IPL hardSPL? you go from 6.5 to 6.1?
Do you try to flash first the Stripped?
Does your batt has charge enough to boot?
There are many many things to say so... start to tell us all your history!
Hi
I tried to Hard spl with Hard Splv7. But I got a error. I even tried the Sd Card method. Its says loading and I get the tricolour mode. If I press the Power button its not showing the status of upgradation.
Where can I get a shipped rom. Actually my Spl is 1.11.

check the wiki pages for your device in the upper bar of this web forums
there are many official roms.
I also am currently using an 8525 (Herm100). It was received from an Ebay deal with WM5. I flashed it with the ATT OEM WM6pro (aka shipped wm6). Once it hit the three color boot screen, it sat on that for a couple of minutes then started cooking. Once it showed a progress bar, it took about 3 minutes to cook the WM6 over the WM5. It also showed a popup that stated going back to WM5 was not an option.
I would suggest running the installer again and going down to 7-11 for a refreshment. You may not have let it percolate long enough to set itself up for the actual ROM overwriting.

G4 Bricked? Tri-Color boot screen visible

Hi. I have searched the forums, but haven't found the answer I have been looking for, so sorry if this is a repeat.
I am working under Windows 7, installed VMWare and XP Pro on it, and easily installed Hard-SPL and Cracings 6.5. When I went to upgrade the Radio, I was sure to download one without SPL and IPL. I tried to upgrade, but it hung at 2% for at least 5 hours. (I knew it was bad in 2 minutes actually, but decided to wait). Now it will turn on, but to the tri-color boot screen. Tried hard reset (although I didn't really expect it to work). Is there anything that I can do? It shows when I connect it to usb, both on the phone and on the computer.
It is FAR out from under warranty, so thats out, but if there is anything I could try, I would be much obliged for pointers. Thanks a lot!

You need to make the update with RUU 2.5.2
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314952 ).
Try it, if even that does not work (for me it works only with wizard_love ROM
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...293480&page=21 loca's post), but not with other cooked ROM's) then you can try WST wizard service tool
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329170 ) to unpack the nbf and load only the OS ROM.
Thanks for the info.
I will try it later this weekend when i get time! (moving to new apt.... sigh... can't feed the addiction)

If Tri Colour Screen WST needs to boot into WM OS surely???
How can you use WST if only on bootloader. Please explain as I have similar issues...
Dilbert
I had exactly the same experience as you: Hard-SPL followed by Cracing and then the tri-color screen. This thread helped me revive my G4.

Hey I am having the same problem but with my G3 att 8125. I flashed to 2.26 which I always do before installing any rom then installed X2A Haseebs Iphone Killer and it stalled at 57% for over an hour so I unplugged it and hard-reset it. I have installed this rom about twice and it works fine. Now my phone starts up and goes straight to the Tri-colored bootscreen. When I plug the phone in it displays that it is connected via USB but the computer doesnt recognize it. IPL 2.26, SPL 2.26 as displayed on the screen. PLEASE HELP!
Hi all, I've got the exact same problem as Quadzilla has - any help would be much appreciated!

[Q] O2 Xda Star(Niki300) problems with installing hardspl and roms

Hi Guys^^
I'm quite new to all this flashing stuff and spent the last week trying to figure this out but it seems I'm missing something.
I've got a O2 xda star (niki300) phone with a 1.58.16.27 radio (i think) and spl 1.16. I wanted to install a new rom and choose the Salvy.C83 V3.3 3g 20 Keys since it seemed to be one of the newest(correct me if I'm wrong).
It says that hardspl and a 1.65 radio is needed so i downloaded hardspl1.22-nike-shipped and the official rom linked in the wiki where the 1.65 radio seems to be included.
-I connect my phone (without sim and sd)
-and run the Nike CustomRUU
-It's starts quite normal but when the progress bar is shown (at 0% to be exact) I get to hear the disconnecting and connecting sounds of windows and some moments later the setup is aborted because of connection issues.
This problem occurs everytime at the exact same moment so I guess it can't be a broken cable...
I'd be very glad if you could tell me what I'm doing wrong or at least share some ideas of what I could try with me
Thank you in advance

you'd better try again to update the Hard SPL and use HardSPL v.1.15 ~ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
with hard SPL that you can flash any rom and make CID, Security Unlocker too
thanks for the answer but sadly it doesn't change a thing
I run this UpdateRomUtility from flash-uspl but it gives me the same connection error (i think it lost connection as the phone went into 4 color mode, but I could be wrong)
Or is there another way to install this?
are you sure have followed all the directions given jockyw ??
What OS are you using on your computer??
have you deactivated anti- virus program or firewall on the PC before doing the flash HardSPL ??
sorry not my intention to return to ask, but I want you to more thorough and more detailed in discussing a problem so that you succeed in overcoming
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit Professional
about the instructions, I tried two different ways:
1. Connect my switched on phone. Then run the RomupdateUtility from flash-uspl-niki. (gives the Connection issue)
2. Do the steps with the sspl first. I put the sspl in the root directory of my phone and execute it through my phone. It goes in color - mode then USB is written on the screen ->I unplug and replug my usb cable->nothing changes. Running the Romupdateutility doesn't work because it says it isn't connected.
windows firewall is switched off
will test again with antivir also deactivated
