GSM & CDMA Raphaels -- time for stronger separation and development titles??? - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Now that as of the past few weeks several carriers in North America have released the CDMA version of the Raphael, should the forums and members now make a strong distinction for ROM development with TWO separate forums under the titles "GSM Raphael ROM Development" & "CDMA Raphael ROM Development"??
I've already made quick edits under the Raphael wiki to change the "Raphael upgrading/cooking/flashing" to be preceded with GSM. ... plus added a strong warning under the Raphael hardSPL page that it is only for the GSM model.
If would be great if all developers could from now on title the ROMs and SPLs as per the device they are intended for rather than what is now a generic but potentially incompatible blanket heading of 'Raphael.'
No sense in encouraging confusion and n00bs bricking their phone.
....I'm still a Titan owner and have been used to having our own isolation where device specific development-confusion is rare.

[CDMA/GSM][ROM][LANGUAGE][DATE]rom name and version (Build)[STATUS]
like that?

It's a good point and I vote for this notion.

Radio Clarification Question (NOT another which is "best" Q)

With so many Radio stacks to choose from, I decided to do some researching about each one, as well as tried to determine which one is used the most. I understand that as with ROMs, there is not a "best" radio stack to choose from but rather, the experience varies form person to person based on individual needs.
I have narrowed the selections down to 3 or 4 different versions but before I flash my device, I was hoping someone could help clarify the one question I could not find an answer to.
Are certain radio stacks carrier specific? Is there a radio version that is better for devices using TMO vs. devices using ATT?
For example:
My current set up is:
Carrier: T-Mobile USA (Seattle)
Device: HERM100 Hermes (specifically the Cingular 8525 version)
ROM: MRH 6.5 Rainbow WM6.1 (19212-ish)
Radio: 1.16.00.00
Knowing that I have TMO USA can I flash my device with 1.54.30.10? It seems that this has only been tested on ATT, does that mean it wont work with TMO? (will i lose TMO services with an ATT radio?)
Thanks in advance,
-hier0
From what I have read in different forums
00.00 optimised for US and UK
30.10 optimised for OZ and down under
00.10 optimised for general use.
Hope this helps, and yes it will be good for users from all over the world to come together and get a report together as to what is best for their area.
I am in Christchurch, New Zealand, and am using 1.47.30.10 thanks in advance.

When I was researching which radios people are using, I only compared the radio version to the carrier they were using. I can't believe I didn't think about the region a radio version is optimized for. That makes a lot more sense and I would say, that's some very important info for anyone to know before flashing their radio. Good lookin out! Thanks
EDIT: So I guess now the question would be...Since I am located in America i know that i should be using a radio version that ends in 00.00...Does it matter which carrier I am using? Or can I flash any radio version ending in 00.00?
I also agree that it would be great if we could have users from a variety of regions post their Radio version, Carrier and Region information. If we can get a good mix of information, I will throw it into a matrix and post it into the wiki. This would be a great reference for anyone who wants to update their radio. (it would also help eliminate noobish questions)
For example:
If a user posted:
Region: USA / Radio: 1.16.00.00 / T-Mobile (all services work without error)
and a second user posted:
Region: USA / Radio: 1.16.00.00 / AT&T (all services work without error)
then noobs like me (or anyone for that matter) would know that its probally safe to flash any radio version optimized for US/UK no matter what their carrier is.
Just a thought..

CDMA vs. GSM ROMS?

So, i might be a little dumb when it comes to this, but how can i tell which roms are for CDMA and which are for GSM?
Also, i know there is a forum on here for CDMA phones, but they don't seem to have any CDMA roms on there... would an administrator be willing to make another section or split the ROM development section into GSM and CDMA?
Thanks to all the brilliant minds that keep me awake all night!
You crazy right?
The Raphael CDMA does have CDMA roms. The roms in Rom Development are only GSM.
PPCGeeks has the biggest selection of CDMA roms and tweaks. [Link]
You are in the GSM ROM forum. You will not find any CDMA ROMS in this forum. From what I have seen there isnt much development on them you might want to try PPCgeeks I hear they have a bigger CDMA following. You are correct all CDMA stuff is here:

I will probably close this thread shortly.

How to get 3G on an European Hero.

I heard its possible to flash the radio so it match the US and Canada frequencies to get 3G data instead of EDGE
Can someone Help me. I found a link to the Radio roms but no step by step flashing guide.
I have a european Hero Downgraded to version 2.73.405.5 on Baseband version 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18.
How can I make it work on 3G cause right now I can only acces EDGE. With ROGERS Canada
Thanks to all of you guys (& girls) because this is new to me and seriously, some of you are really talented.
seriously dude, that has been asked several times, is not possible and belongs not in this category.
OK man sorry about that was not there for the past years reading all the threads ever created... I did some search and wasnt able to find specific guide about that...
Forget about it and have a nice day.
i recently read that it is possible on some winmo phones to use the radio matching your network on a different phone. comes with the downside that reception goes down to (i would think) unusable level, because the hardware is not meant to work on these frequencies. it is more of a "side effect" that it works at all. i have not read of something like this happening at all for a hero.

[Q] ROMS (CM9, MIUI, etc.) for U.S. SGSIII, All Different?

Does anyone have any idea if ROMS such as CM9 and MIUI will have to be made for each individual carrier in the U.S. (Sprint, AT&T, T-Mo, Verizon, etc.) or will it be a "U.S. Variant" ROM, with all carriers covered?
I know they all have a different model number;
AT&T: SGH-I747 (Canada's carriers have this with an "M" at the end)
T-Mobile: SGH-T999
Sprint: SPH-L710
Verizon: ???
But is there a real difference between them at the hardware and software level? I just think it would kinda suck for the devs to have to make multiple versions of a ROM for a phone that's basically the same device across the carriers (which I thought was part of the reason Samsung made all the carriers use the same version of the phone, instead of their own specially tweaked versions, like the Captivate/Fascinate/Vibrants).
Any info anyone has would be welcome. Thanks
there should just be a us variant as literally the only difference between the four is the carrier radio
There will have to be either individual ROMs for each model, or a "model-less base ROM" with a model-specific second ZIP for radio drivers, etc.
I know that the 747 and the 999 have different radios for different wireless spectrum, so it would be impossible to have a single radio driver that would work on both devices.
actually i was wrong lol yea what he said... maybe they'll develop some aroma installers... or carrier-specific radio zips
I'd be interested in seeing ROMs using an Aroma installer, where it detects the model of your phone and (strongly ) suggests the correct choices during installation of the ROM, making it less of a "stare at this blank console screen while stuff is hopefully happening" process and more of a "here's what's happening now, step by step" process. I think it'd be cool to install a ROM the same way you install an OS on a PC; step-by-step with something decent to look at while it takes a few minutes to do the work.
If it's unofficial then it will be carrier or device specific; if it's official then there could be the ROM then a zip for the radios then another zip for the gapps

[Q] Information before buying?

Hello,
I'm about to buy the Galaxy S3 I needed to know a few things before I do so... I know there is a international version (Which is what I really want) and the US version. I know the differences between the two besides if the International version radio is compatible with T-mobiles 3g / 4g network. If the international version is not compatible with there 3g / 4g network I'm not sure any other carriers will be... I hope I'm not stuck getting the US version due to compatibility issues. If you have any recommendations on a carrier or if I'm just stuck looking at the US version ...
I live in Ohio and want to go with a non contract like T-mobile 4G to go plans and will be buying the phone outright.
Thanks for your time!
Could a MOD move this to the proper section PLEASE!
Thanks!
Well, a quick search shows that the i9300 supports these frequencies:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100

So you need to go to the T-Mobile website and check what frequencies they use and see if the i9300 supports them.
PS. Questions go in the Q&A forum
I'm 100% certain that if you are unable to distinguish between General and Q&A threads, you are unable to recognise and understand the diffs between two SGSIII versions.

Umm I came here from a Google search. I have been a android developer since the G1 , Nexus One and I would never own any I device period. TBH I mistook the general section for the General Question and Answers type of forum...
I have been on XDA for years ...
Now post counts aside I would rather move this to the proper section then have someone forum or grammar Nazi me the person that answered before you was answer enough to know that this was in the wrong section.. I work 10 -12 hour days all week and need to make a informed decision beforehand when I have the time. And I know T-mobile uses the 1900 band but ever since that almost merger with att its hard to know if there current HSPA + network is still using the same frequencies Wikipedia aside I would rather ask a informed owner.
Suggesting a Iphone is something I would sugest to no one!
I guess a +1 to your post count +0 to my question and knowing that this was posted in the wrong section again priceless!
You can probably call TMo and find out for sure
Step aside from frequencies.
What I'd look after first (especially reading a bits about the I9300's SDS cases) is the warranty problem.
Several times here and in General section, some users have mentioned that Samsung US refuses to repair under the warranty this model bcs it is not officially sold in USA (presumably: they do not have I9300 parts in stock).
Furthermore, as I read the case, it was mentioned that EU's Samsung refuses the repair as well, if phone would be sent from US (yes, I know how it sounds like, I was amazed too that you can buy it from Amazon, but ...). therefore, the problem was: sending faulty phone somewhere to EU, sending it from EU to Samsung, and same way for the return.
