I am unable to use qpst. install says unable to register several files with computer. program runs but can't find a server. any ideas?
reinstall QPST and make sure you have administrative privileges on the account that you are installing on.
I have reinstalled several times. every time it gives me the same error. I am the admin, as I am the sole user. I tried reinstalling all files in the wiki several times. The program does run, it just doesn't find a server. it is able to recognize my phone, I can't do anything with it though. i am using vista FYI
Is your internet connection on with your PC when your opening QPST?
yes. I use dsl
Being the only account on a vista machine does not mean you are the admin, and further more the admin account is hidden. If you install anything and I mean anything at all, get used to right clicking on an installer and choosing the command "run as administrator". Or unhide the admin account and do all installs from there and use the other account for day to day use. This is the method I use. I had problems running so many programs when I first got vista. There are also options to run programs in XP compatibility mode, like when I use webjal.
Read this if you want to unlock admin in vista Or just make sure you right click and run as administrator. This also fixed many issues I had with BuildOS too.
very interesting...thanks for the tip...Im reading up on it now....those sneaky SOB's
I unlocked the admin and logged into it. I reinstalled all the files and still ran into the same problem. I almost wonder if its because i'm running a lap top
the following files fail to self-register during install
PhoneLib.dll
PhonePropLib3.dll
PhonePropLib4.dll
SerialPortLib.dll
QPSTProxyComponents.dll
all of these are in C:\Program Files\QPST\bin
I am on a Dell laptop running vista, and I only installed qpst after I learned the admin account trick, so I can offer no other help. Sorry man!
Edit, what build are you using and where was it acquired?
im using 215 from the wiki
I am using that version from that source also. What is your machine's specs? 64 bit? 32 bit? home or pro? etc... Lets try to get all this information down so we can see whats different.
im running the 32 bit version of vista on a duo core pentium. its an acer laptop. i'm surprised i can't find anything on this on the internet. I think that windows updates may have gotten me. maby its time for the cure all format the hard drive.

Firstly UPS to dcd no2 and all the rest for such awesome work. I find myself making a new rom for my own use on a daily now.
I'm a Mac user but have to use Parallels w/ XP to put my rom's on my Mogul. Most times this fails mid update. It's not in the same place every time and sometimes completes ( rarely )
The mogul is seen by XP. Active Sync picks it up and connects. I'm able to browse the phone/mem card. AND the RUU completes sometimes, leaving me with a phone & rom that boots.
When I use my friends XP machine the same rom's install perfectly, every time. So I know at the very least the rom's I create are good.
Does anyone have experience with this issue?
bootcamp
BOOT CAMP.....Thats is the answer for you, I hope.....
The reason why I say "I hope"...is that you need an Intel Processor to use it....if your mac is Intel bases, make a minimal partition with a minimum install of XP...(thats what I did)...
I use this partition ONLY for flashing my ROM.
If you DON'T have an Intel mac.....
1. Get more RAM
2. make sure you close all other open programs.
3. Make sure that you are not using an disk intensive activities.....(IE: uploading/downloading, virus scans, backups etc...)
4. Make sure that you do not do ANYTHING while flashing the ROM.
5. Make sure that your computer's SLEEP is disabled.....
6. For good measure, temporarily set parallels for parallels performance and NOT background applications.
7. If you know how, disable any unneeded services running in your WINDOWS Parallel....
8. If possible, make yourself a Win98 parition for parallels and you might have better results.
Remember, ANYTHING you do outside of parallels could affect the flash.
I've experienced a different issue using Parallels on my mac. When I first flashed it, I got stuck in bootloader. Every time I'd hook it up to the computer it would tell me the device was already in use and that Parallels couldn't use the device. A reboot of the computer and/or the phone didn't help multiple times. I had to break out an old dell laptop with XP on it just to get it to exit the BL.
i use vmware fusion on my mac under leopard, i can flash and do anything just fine..., maybe you should try fusion. Works for me
Same here, Try VM FUSION... I had problems sending data to flash over usb with Parallels.
Another vote for VMware fusion and Leopard. I have done numerous flashes without issue. Boot camp is a pain but is the ultimate in compatibility. I find that vmware gets the job done for everything I need to do including flashing roms and unlocking the Mogul.
Got my VMware on!! First ROM worked just fine. Thanks so much for the replies everyone.
Hi,
I know there have been threads on this before but largely they just mention installing the Vista 64 bit drivers (done that). I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with the Vista 64 bit drivers and MCR 2.8 (although I was on stock and 2.2 with the same problem). HTC Sync on the phone just will not find it on the PC. I can mount the SD card with no trouble, just problems with Sync.
Any suggestions as to what I can do? Please feel free to direct me to another thread that I've missed so long as it's not just about the drivers.

In addition to HTC sync and the drivers, have you tried getting the android sdk? I know that I had issues with HTC sync finding my phone as well when syncing it to Win7 x64, so try following this guide here, it might allow HTC sync to view the phone properly. The guide teaches you how to setup adb-usb drivers which might trigger the application to know that your phone is there.
I had the same problem, turns out one of the task killer apps that I had been using had killed the sync process. Might be a plan to check if the same has happend to you.
Florida.
Hi Princedwi and Florida,
Thanks for the replies. I'm confident that my sync process is still running as I've tried numerous reboots of phone and PC so the task killer wouldn't have had chance to stop the process. However I will give it a go just to make sure.
Regarding the SDK, I'll try that when I get home. I used to have the SDK installed but then I did a re-install of windows and haven't bothered installing the sdk yet. May well work, I'll let you know.

Hi,
Ok tried it at home. The SDK isn't installing in the same way as I remember it doing last time. A DOS box flashes up and then disappears when I run SDK setup.exe.
Any other ideas?

2.0.18 is out now... should be W7 compatible -

I had to install the Vista 64 bits drivers twice to get them working properly. The first time my hero appeared as "HTC Hero ADB". Rebooted, connected to USB, opened notifier, selected PC-Sync and reinstalled drivers (always choosing the folder where HTC should be leaving their drivers). This second time it appeared as "MY HTC" and it worked fine then. So just try again until you see the magic word "My HTC".

Because from android 1.6 setup process has changed in SDK. Normally it opens a windows from where you can add the version of android SDK you want and install the driver.

Same problem here with windows 7 64bit. Not sure if it's related to java environnement installed (For example when i installed JRE on my win7 64 the JAVA_HOME env variable was not set, i had to do it manually).

Nope for now but if I found the problem be sure i'll post it here.
Ok I found the solution. My problem is that I've installed only the JRE but according to the requirements (developer.android.com/intl/fr/sdk/requirements.html) we need the JDK also.
So i've uninstalled the JRE 1.6 (64bit) I had, and installed the JDK 1.6 (32bit as i saw many ppl having problem with 64bit and android SDK). And it worked, I run againg the "SDK Setup.exe" and it opened the windows as intended.
I had the same problem, even with 2.0.18. what I did was install HTC Sync 2.0.18 (with the drivers copied in Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Vista_x64). then go to device manager, ADB interface, update driver, browse for a list of compatible software and choose My HTC.
after rooting it (although I'm not sure this is the cause) it happened now and then to fail to get recognized by the computer so I followed the same steps to update the drivers to My HTC.
I can't install HTC Sync 2.0.18, it gives an error about some resource file not found and closes. I tried on two different computers with the same result. Anyway 2.0.8 works fine here after I reinstalled the 64 bits driver until it was detected as "My HTC".
the same for me.
after update to version 2.0.18 my win7 64bit didnt find my phone anymore...
Hey, I was wondering if anyone had a link to download the HTC Bootloader drivers. It fails when I try and load "something" in Windows.
Thanks.
p.s: This will lead to good things...
The only drivers that I am aware of are the ones that are in the Android SDK Toolbox and in the HTC Sync program. Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know, they aren't specific drivers ie "bootloader" drivers. They are just drivers to get your comp to recognize the phone when its attached.
I'm assuming this is something you're expirementing with to get root via the adb in recovery, if so, good luck.

Hi crax0r,
The folks at Android (aka Google) provide these instructions for installing the drivers. It involves installing their SDK first, and installing Java for that, and an IDE called eclipse.... UGH.
The HTC "Sync" Application that hoovnick is referring to can be found here.
It has been so long ago that I installed drivers (on a WinXp x32 laptop) that I can't remember what order I did things in, whether or not the driver used by HTC sync is sufficient for fastboot but not adb (or vice versa), whether I did the SDK install first, etc etc etc. As a matter of fact, it's been so long ago that the computer that I did it on is now dead, and here I am using a Linux machine.
For all I know, the order you do things in affects the outcome - it sure seems like a lot of folks with Windows 7 complained about driver troubles.
One thing is for sure, though - setting up the entire Android SDK (+ Java + Eclipse + ...) in order to install a device driver has to be the worlds most roundabout way of doing a driver install.
If you are considering using the "fastboot" method to install Amon_RA's recovery boot, you might try just installing HTC Sync first, and see if that is sufficient for getting fastboot talking to the phone. That install is way, way easier than setting up the SDK to get a driver installed.
The other thing which is an option, if you are a little bit Linux-savvy, is to boot one of those "Live CDs" (Ubuntu, SuSe, etc) on your PC - there are no drivers to install in the case of Linux, you just need to be running as "root" on the Live (linux) CD to get fastboot to talk to the phone. The downloads (fastboot for Linux and the Amon_RA recovery image) are small, and they will both easily fit in the /tmp folder of the Linux (Live CD) boot on the PC.
Once you have Amon_RA on the phone, you won't need the SDK any longer, unless you want to start doing dev-like things; that's why a one-time boot into Linux would also work.

I <3 Ubuntu. It's amazing!
bftb0, I am trying to install only the driver from the SDK tools, but when I follow the instructions for a fresh install, and point windows to the folder with the driver in it, windows says it can't find a driver there. What am I doing wrong here?

Excellent. Just remember to always run fastboot as root, and if using adb, then the first time after you boot (the PC), run adb as root.
The reason is that by default, Ubuntu won't let an unprivileged user access the USB.
Since I have adb and fastboot in my Ubuntu (regular user) PATH, I usually just do a
$ sudo `which adb` blah-blah-blah
or
$ sudo `which fastboot` blah-blah-blah

I don't know - I've already forgotten everything I did with the driver install in Windows, and I don't currently have a working Windows machine. Sorry I can't be of more help. As I said, the troubles people have been having seem to depend on which version of Windows (Xp/Vista/7), whether its x32 or x64, phase of the moon, etc. Seems like people run into snags on Win7 or x64 versions of Windows more than Xp-32, but I don't know why that is.
Keep plugging away at it. If you are looking for resources to help resolve the problem, I would go look at docs relating to Windows driver install troubleshooting - the driver install problem seems to be a Windows issue, not really anything to do with the SDK.

Sounds like what happened to me. i had to hit the icon at the top of my phone that showed the usb cable.. i had to switch charge only to disk drive "mount as disk drive"... folder popped right up on my windows machine asking how i wanted to open the file
I have the SDK running and my phone being recognized on my computer with Vista but I have another one running XP 32 bit and windows will NOT recognize the .inf? Any ideas? I deleted all previous HTC drivers and tried that approach but nothing seems to be working.
As you can see, I'm a Senior Member; however, I've been "away" for a few months. I had an HD2, which was stolen. After reverting back to an old Nokia to get me through the "tough times," I bought a Telus HTC Desire (running Android 2.1) and had it unlocked.
This was my first time using Android. It's a nice operating system, but I simply cannot do many things I used to be able to do with my HD2. So, two weeks later I bought a new HD2. I still have the Desire if anyone's interested. It's in perfect condition, but that's not my reason for writing these words.
I've searched and searched and searched the forums with no avail. It has to do with Windows Mobile Device Center and error messages when I try to sync my HD2 with my PC.
Okay, I'll try to provide as much detail as possible.
First, I DO NOT USE EXCHANGE. I have only one email address set up using POP, and it works. I can get and send mail without a problem.
However, everytime I attach the HD2 to my PC via USB cable, Windows Mobile Device Center automatically starts the sync process. Sadly, though, I ALWAYS get the following error message: Exchange Activesync encountered an error ... blah, blah, blah, and nothing syncs.
Then, if I leave my HD2 connected, when the next automatic sync begins, there's no problem (most of the time). My Calendar and Contacts sync well.
I ONLY sync my Calendar and Contacts. Nothing else!
I've tried virtually every solution I've found on the Internet without success. I've tried syncing just one of the two items, either just the calendar or just the contacts, and then go back to both, but that does nothing to solve the problem.
I'm simply losing my mind with frustration. I cannot get that "darn" error message to stop. I simply want my device to sync with my PC (running Windows 7 64-bit). Yes, I'm using Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1 for 64-bit systems. Yes, I've tried uninstalling it and re-installing it ... but still no success.
I've tried remove the partnerships and starting over again, but the same error message occurs.
HELP, HELP, HELP!
I've been a member here for quite a long time and have found this site to be the "cream de la cream" of sites for HTC phones. I'm hoping someone can help.
Thank you,
Peter
Anybody?
Hmm, it's been several days with a reply to my original post below. Has no one else had this problem?
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Peter
only advice would be performing a hard reset if you havent done it yet.
maybe it can help...

Already did a hard reset ...
I already tried a hard reset, but I still have the error issue.
Hmm.
Have you tried:
Try running the command below in a Command Prompt with admin privileges:
regsvr32.exe %Windir%\system32.exe\ole32.dll
Press Enter.
Reboot your computer.

In response to your question, I ran your suggested command in a Command Prompt, but without success. I kept getting the following error message”
The module “C:\Windows\system32.exe\ole32.dll” failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found.
On a related note, pardon my ignorance, but what does it actually mean when someone says "with admin privileges?" I bought my laptop, I own it, no one else uses it, I have not set up anything special concerning more than one user since I have been and always will be the sole user of my laptop, so can I automatically assume I have admin privileges? If not, how can I change this, and why would I not have admin privileges? How can I confirm if I do or don't have admin privileges?
Thanks,
Peter
Guys / Gals
I was able to fix my problem of not being able to connect my phone, a Samsung Note 3, and the error I got was from Microsoft MTP. I believe it is Media Transport Protocol. I searched for days; this was a pain in the neck problem. iPhone users seem to have the same issue. I have seen a couple of solutions suggested here on XDA, but they did not work for me. One solution advised to remove the drivers via Windows, mine is Win 7 btw, Devices and Printers screen, they stated to make sure to check the remove driver checkbox. But MTP does not have any such checkbox that I see in my setup. Maybe we are different Windows versions or something. Regardless, what worked for me was to reinstall Windows using the Upgrade option right after you select install. This procedure does not usually damage your personal files; but like every other post here:
1- Do back up everything.
2- I am not responsible for any damaged files, computers, anything.!.!.! Ok?
I backed up my files on an external drive. The only thing I had to reinstall was VMware Workstation 11, and afterwards I was able to launch it fine. In fact I am typing this post from the Ubuntu guest within the restored Win 7. During the install I noticed Windows took some time "repairing .Net". So maybe folks who have more knowledge of Microsoft products can look into this as a quicker fix?
After you are done, test your phone's connectivity and if it is working, create a restore point as soon as the install is done since Windows is going to install a slew of updates right after. You can label restore points something like "Phone Driver Works" or anything else, which implies a successful milestone.
Send me an email if any of this is unclear. I am so glad this is fixed for me. I'll post some of the links, which helped me figure this out.
