I have AT&T 8525 with Windows Mobile 5.0
Should I upgrade to WM 6 before installing HARD SPL?
Or upgrade after installing HARD SPL
What does hard spl do?
If you are going to upgrade to AT&T 8525 WM 6 official ROM then no need to do a HARDSPL but if you are going to used WM 6 Cooked ROM then it is a MUST to do a HARDSPL.
AFAIK
HardSPL will allow you to flash your unit with a unofficial release ROM or Cooked ROM, or even the other brand official ROM as long as it is for Hermes.

Alright, got official wm 6.0,
Installing HardSPL, no luck keep getting Error 260, it loses connection with the device for no reason, I'm wondering why there isn't a straight forward Hard-SPL readme, that says how to install it, the instructions are all over the place...

i have a G4 imate jamin
i upgraded it to wm6 evo8enbefore upgrading i used the instructions to first install RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID and then upgrade to wm6.
my imate has changed into a QTECK (welcome screen)
but now that i want to downgrade and use the imate original rom i cant
it gives me error 296 (the nbf file cannot be used.)
i tried to CIDunlock using the wiki method.
when i run the downgrade.bat it worked fine and finished but when i soft reset to do the next steps (runnıng unlockcid.bat) my imate freezed and did not boot.
can some body help me on how can i install the imate orginal rom on my jamin again???????
By installing RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe you probably upgraded your SPL from 2.13 or 2.15 (i guess) to 2.20 and now when you try to downgrade your rom you receive that error.
I know because i did exactly the same thing with my first prophet but later I found dopod 2.15 . . . rom which didnt change my second prophet's SPL.
Now, since there is no solution (yet) for downgrading (unlocking) G4s the only thing you can do is: http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m600unlock.php. I havent! done that myself but someone sure has... Or you can try some other WM6 roms like Touch, Mysterious, etc.
Oh, and btw CID unlock is for G3 ONLY!!!
Maybe someone should update that guide so people dont get into these situations

yes this should be notified properly ,also usb switch is missing in instructions too .
I want that moderators make this thread sticky so that all G4 Imate Jamin Users can read this before doing everything in order to upgrade to WM6.
Dear user!
All the available WM6 ROMs require installing a Qtek WM5 before upgrading to WM6. And if you installed the ROM that they required, your Imate will become a Qtek for ever and there is no turning back!
It means that you cannot install Imate Original ROMs on your device anymore & you cannot even install Qtek original ROMs on your device because there is no method to CID-Unlock a G4 Imate jamin!
My personal advice is if you want to upgrade to WM6, DO NOT install any of those WM5 ROMs on your device and just install the WM6 upgrade.
Ehm.. You do know that there allready IS a sticky on how to do the upgrading ?
only SPL changes you can bring back imate boot screens (splash) by using nvid ruu ,SPL is hard to change but radio and splash could be changed right!! .although first time users go into shock for days ,but don't worry i had the same one too ,it doesn't matter now.

TOO LATE !!!!!
The only thing that gets me is that with the Imate you could paste into the WiFi password box, withe the Qtek you can't and when you have a 63 character password that's a pain in the arse!

but password is not managed by SPL or radio ,so suggest a different OS for imate instead of nvidQtek or get some cab to remember your password does anyone know such OS or cab

I am currently running TNT's Windows Mobile 6.1 Proffesional ROM, and I have just learned that there is any upgrade to that particular ROM, and would like to know if I can safely upgrade to it from WM6.1, or do I have to downgrade back to the Love ROM and then upgrade again. Heres my device history if it helps:

My opinion is that flashing the LOVE ROM was a unnecessary step. I never do anything like that before changing ROMs (flashing a stock ROM and the like)
That almost answers your question except that having used SoftSPL your CID block is still locked and SPL knows it so you must either:
1- Flash SoftSPL before flashing the TNT
2- Flash the HardSPL to not worrying about it ever again when wanting to change ROMs (my option - if i had a G4)

I have a question about What G4 safe?
I uploaded a rom with HTCLogo.nb+Splash.nb+OS.nb (I assume that because there is no IPL/SPL it should be safe for G4????)

As you can see from the pics only the IPL and SPL have versions depending on the DOC chip (G3 3.08 in this case )

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie of cooked rom scene. I want to flash my athena with ap4. I've understand that to run a proper installation i've to check the correct version of radio. But my question is do i've to unlock the athena first with athena unlocker? Or is it enough follow every steps of this guide:

Sorry. I found the answer by myself. I have to run the unlocker to get spl 1.2 and then i can flash a new spl 1.2 rom.
I read all the guides about unlock and upgrade Athena but i've one doubt. My athena is an x7500 with a windows mobile 6 rom provided by htc. After i unlock it, can i flash the AP4 rom immediately or do i have to flash one of spl 1.2 rom first and then the AP4?

Hi kingmob,
Yes you can flash AP4 to get spl 3.5 , but I would suggest you experiment first flashing the spl 1.2 roms to get some experience as sometimes the ap4 upgrade goes a bit awry.
