Yeah so I got jumped by two punks last night. Long story short My note ended up being taken from me and then returned in the puddle I was standing next to.
My case had a rubber plug for the headphone and USB Ports if that helps from the six dollar case.
I'm pretty sure I'm just out of the thirty days but not thirty since I exchanged my last one that was defective.
Seems to be working okay. Water damage can do weird things. what should I be looking out for?
ok, how long has it been since it was in water? First thing i would myself is to take out battery immediately. Then take it apart if i thought the water may have gone deeper. If your not too experienced with taking it apart, then i might avoid doing that part. I would just leave battery out for a little while and try not to turn it on. From my personal experience with other peoples phone is that the water will be in there and will eventually start corroding and i guess its kinda like a oxidization(?) and will make contact to other connections and will start to short.
long story short
-remove battery
-let dry for a while
-if you dont think it went deep in the phone, then I wouldnt worry too much
-from my own experiences usb port is the first to stop working
-then white screen(bad lcd) along with a ruined battery
The day that it doesn't turn on anymore.
I had dropped a phone in the washing machine once while it just started filling up with water. The phone didn't get very wet at all and ran like a champ for two months more. Then it died.
Hopefully the plugs on your phone will make a difference!
Less than twelve hours. there was a very few small droplets on the outer sides under the battery case. I don't think it too deep into the phone I left the battery out with the phone in a plastic rice container and under a lamp for a few hours. I'm not having those symptoms yet. There was no water under the battery.
Is atts 30 day return policy from the date of contact or from when I exchanged the other note for a defect?
I pay for atts insurance but a two hundred dollar deductible ....
I'm on contract for two years so I need the best advice...

I would say 30 days from the exchange from note to note. I dont know if they would change to a different device but maybe another note. Of course if they see water damage on the pads then they wouldnt let you. Just in case they are red, here is a post by the Elite dev Adam Outler.

In my experience the 30 days starts all over with each phone. The contract does not. After 14 days your locked into the contract and can not get a reversal. The phone itself always goes by the date of purchase or replacement.

The 30 day period is from the original sale date, I had to return a second one for a blown speaker at 10 days from my 1st return (hard brick) but 32 days from original purchase. Had to send it back to warranty when I got the replacement in the mail.
If you believe it still has water in it, take out the battery and place both the phone and battery in uncooked rice for a day. The rice will draw out any moisture.
Sounds like you will have to make a warranty claim, but if it works without issue, don't worry about that until it doesn't work anymore. You can make a claim whenever, they wont know when it happened.

If you return a phone because of a factory defect within 30 days, they give you another phone. The 30 day return policy starts all over again. If you damage the phone in any way, then the same rules don't apply(especially water damage). That's the 1st thing they check for. If there's no sign of water damage(and you don't tell them), then you're covered under the return policy. Otherwise, it's gotta go through warranty. I would be honest about it. Either way you get another phone....although you will need to pay a deductible.
Edit: Just remember....every store is different and it depends on who you talk to. If the speaker blew due to no fault of your own, then they should've have given you another phone right then and there. If you paid a deducible then they screwed you. I returned 3 phones in the past 3 months. All were covered under the 30 day return policy from the date I received them.

Hey, like said above biggest thing is that yur ok! had a similar situation happen last year didnt end up so well for me, ER trip, Neuro rehab etc but cant do anything bout it now!! Anyways, I remember my wife dropped her Isucks err Iphone in the sink while doing dishes, completely saturated. I read online that one of the best ways to soak up the water from inside the phone itself it to put it in a jar of white rice for a day or two. Its the same principle as putting rice in the salt shaker. It absorbs moisture and we did that and it worked. Had some gremlins for a minute there (phone volume changing on its own, messenger popping up randomly etc) but after a few days it was business as usual for it for another year. Hope this helps ya!
we all love our phones but take care when pulling them out in public. always be aware of your surroundings and stop walking around with your head down.

For this reason, im debating to get a CCW (carry concealed weapon) license. But Glad to hear that youre okay. Ive heard that water damaged phones can be fixed by sticking it in a bucket of rice uncooked for about a day. Worked for my bros old iphone.

I didn't have to pay a deductible, they just made me swap it out through the warranty dept as it was covered under warranty for the bad speaker. They made me do it that way since it was past the original 30 days from the sale. No biggie to me, I didn't pay, just had to wait a day.

Cool man. Glad to hear it. I get really fired up when these carriers screw their customers over. I also can't stand the fact that every store policy is different. Everyone should be treated the same.

Well the battery indicator is still white. The phone didn't get completely water logged thanks to the case. Its working as of now so how would i be able to exchange it anyway. I guess ill end up doing the warranty when or if things act up. There's only one water damage indicator?
I didn't get roughed up luckily. This sounds crazy but I convinced them that what they were doing was wrong and they were only doing it cause they could cause im a little man. I also did mention i could gps track the phone. Once they threatened violence i told them to do it. Two big guys i told them i wouldn't fight back either if it made them feel better. The one with my phone ended up calling me a humble man throwing my phone in the puddle and told me where my board was so i could leave. Reverse psychology working on an intoxicated person is almost unheard of lol.
I realize i did get very lucky and it could have ended a lot worse.

I am not sure about any additional indicators. Hopefully it will be no issue. I only know of the one. Glad you talked them down from the hostility!
Here in Tampa a group of thugs jumped and beat an off duty Army Soldier when he went to get a dollar out of his wallet because they asked for some help. Glad they caught 2 of them, only a matter of time until they get the other two. Wish they could bring the thugs to his platoon or squad for some military style justice!

Im here in Florida too. As the economy worsens more and more bad people will populate the states.
Carrying a firearm can offer protection but has a lot of downfalls to the idea. Especially having to defend yourself in court after merely trying to defend your life.

As far as carrying a concealed weapon, hopefully, you are an experienced gun owner/user, because, if not, carrying a weapon that you aren't thoroughly trained and comfortable with can turn out horribly.....for you....
I searched the forums first, but all I found were cracked screens and the like. for months, my rezound has exhibited an issue in the bottom right corner of the LCD (see pics). it hasn't grown/changed or affected use, but it definitely ain't right.
the rep I showed it to at the verizon store swears that I either dropped it or pressed with the might of a thousand hulks on that portion of the screen, which in turn damaged the LCD. I say nay, nay to both, but they still won't allow a warranty replacement.
it's in a hard case five 9s of the time (took it out for pictures) and I certainly never mashed so hard on the screen that it'd cause damage. any thoughts? thanks

LOL for a second I thought your forum name was ****face.. Anyways back to the topic! I would honestly just call into customer care 800-922-0204 and tell them there's a defect with your display. They will make you do the stupid BS trouble shooting and pass you onto tier 2 tech. They will most likely even up giving you a warranty CLNR which you are most likely entitled to. As long as there is no physical damage/liquid damage it clearly is a manufacturer defect. As long as you're under warranty you should have no issues calling into Verizon. 9/10 times you will get nothing accomplished at a store unless its them making $$$$.

yea, it's sposed to make everyone look twice. I was even turned away at the DMV when I tried to get it as a vanity plate
before heading to the store, I called phone support for a warranty replacement. when the phone rep got to the part about "if this is determined to not be a warranty issue, we gonna charge your ass" (paraphrased), I declined. I figured a store tech would glance at it, shrug, then replace it no problem and I wouldn't have to worry about paying. so much for that hope...

I had the exact same issue on a replacement Verizon sent me about a month back. It was a purple looking smudge at the bottom of the screen. I called them right away and they sent me out another one.

That's part of their script the whole "if its deemed not to be a warranty issue blah blah blah". Your phone has a manufacturers defect and it should get replaced free of charge. Give them a call! Best vanity plate I saw to date was ShesMad I lol'd pretty damn hard.
the whole thing about having absolutely no recourse in the event that they charge for a replacement is worrisome, but I'm feelin more confident about it being a defect now. danke

I have a similar smudge spot on my Rezound now. It happened after I crashed on my bike and landed on the phone in my pocket.
It seems to happen with excessive pressure on the screen. The same thing happened to my Asus Transformer too, which is usually put in my backpack and has a lot of things pressing up against it quite often. Not much can be done except replace the screen, or the phone.
My phone was in a pool of about 3' of water for a few seconds, with all of the ports completely closed. Ever since, the screen hasn't been responsive except for a small portion of the top left. I contacted Sony, who told me to contact Verizon, who told me to contact Sony...and on the 3rd attempt, someone at Verizon finally bridged up someone at Sony and the RMA # was then provided to me.
I sent the phone back to Sony (at my own cost), and just received it back today. They left adhesive sticking out of the gap between the glass and side trim, and left trim off the bottom of the phone, which is nowhere to be found. They also claim to have done a successful pressure test on it, but I am absolutely sure that my ports were closed when the phone entered the water. In fact, I use a Qi charger to ensure that the seals on the ports remain intact.
Here is the document they sent the phone back with.
Adhesive sticking out of the side.
Bottom trim gone.
Long story short, I loved this phone, but it is not waterproof, and don't expect support if it becomes water damaged. Very frustrating, as I am still paying for the phone via Verizon Edge.

It's unfortunate your experience was terrible, especially with the kind of service they did. The thing is though, not all Z3v's are defective like yours. I've washed mine in the sink, taken it to shower, brought it to several swimming pools, and I've never had any waterproofing problems.
And in any case, I have the $8 insurance with Verizon for any problems such as dropping it or losing it. I'm sure Verizon can do something for you if you did subscribe to that.

Based on my experience, you're SOL without insurance. I typically don't buy insurance on phones because the monthly premium + deductible just isn't worth it on a device I can get on eBay or Swappa for $300-400.

I'm going to neglect to mention the water and see where that gets me...
I had the same experience. I had my Sony in the water with all the ports closed and it got water inside. I contacted Sony and the guy I spoke to told me I had to send it in at my own expense and they would determine if my phone was defective or if it was user error. He also told me not to hold much hope because he said he hasn't seen them replace one yet. I sent it in and they mailed it back saying it passed a pressure test so it must have been my fault. I spent $500 on a waterproof phone that lasted all of two Weeks and broke when it got wet while being used properly. I called Sony to argue my case several times and it was to no avail. I was treated very rudely by one rep and hung up on by another but most of the reps were very nice. I finally got my my case escalated to corporate office and was told sorry there are no exceptions to be made if it passed a pressure test at Sony. I will never buy anything Sony again that's how frustrated the whole process made me.
Well, I guess I'll stop bothering to call support then. I argued my case with the front line personnel, and they said they'd have a supervisor call me back within 48 hours...last Friday. Haven't heard a peep. I would hate to swear off Sony devices after this, because other than the lack of water resistance, I liked the phone very much.

Just saying again, my phone never had waterproof problems. It's really Verizon who you should contact to get something done.

Update on ruined phone
So I contacted Sony and explained to them that my phone's screen was unresponsive and registering Phantom touches. Ileft out that it had been in water, I just told them that the camera had been overheating a lot. The guy on the phone accessed it and had me run the hard reboot. He said he could see that it was trying to run files in the background, but nothing was happening. Since my phone was under the one year warranty, he said it was covered and I was mailed a replacement. I was pretty surprised and impressed by customer service. Just remember to be kind and explain everything youve done to address the issues ( soft and hard reboots, system restore, played in the configuration menu). I'm not surprised to see Sony reverse their stance on waterproofing, but I am very disappointed.

Yeah, I did read it and I was trying to direct you to Verizon since you have no better access to a replacement than them. If that doesn't workout, you may as well just purchase one from eBay since prices of the Z3v are driven down pretty low now in expectation of what's supposed to be the successor's release.
If you don't want my help, that's fine. I've done my fair share on this topic and I've been able to help plenty of others in development as well as achieving root first on a ROM that is still unannounced on its official release.

Verizon would not do anything for me since I do not have insurance on the phone. Sony inspected it and would not honor the warranty because the board had corrosion on it and the phone tested airtight.
So why are you still here? Also what do you expect us to do, more then the advice that was given? You didn't have insurance , the claim has been denied. Time to take personal responsibility for not having insurance, you have run out of options.
I had something of a similar issue but with a good ending. For a few weeks my charge cover wouldn't close right all of the time because the seal came partly undone from but I could sometimes get it back in flush. One day at work I guess it just wasn't the case because after about a minute in the bottom of a pool, it turned off. Never had water proof issues before( in the shower, other times in the pool, fish petting tank). It took a full 15 business days at there facility in Texas but they replaced the phone so I guess the guys there couldn't get the flap to seal either for the pressure test.

I work for Bell Canada, got this phone a week ago today. A couple of days ago, I was leaning over the toilet to clean it, and my cat jumped onto the counter, sending my BRAND NEW G5 into the toilet bowl (Sigh). Everything on the phone works except the LCD screen (LED works, sound, vibration etc) Opened the phone and took everything part (This phone looks amazing and really easy to repair) and put the motherboard in rice, along with the screen.
The water damage indicators on the battery and in the phone did NOT go off. So here are a couple of questions.
-If the water damage indicators didn't go off, could I say that the phone is defective and send it off without them noticing? Made sure to get all of the water out of the phone,
- The phone was working for 3+ hours after the fall, the only part of the phone that got wet the most, was the backside of the case
- Maybe it was a coincidence that the LCD stopped working after 3 hours? Maybe it was actually defective since no indicators went off, indicating water damage?
The phone was bought outright, I would be pretty upset if they couldn't fix it, or worse if I would do the repair myself, if they knew it was water damaged, Bought a new screen to only have it not work anymore.
Would very much appreciate answers!
Using my G4 for now that I bought a month before the G5 was announced lol.
I hate to say it, but a lot of OEMs (mobile and otherwise) use other indicators to tell if the device has been repaired/disassembled. Usually it's a sticker, but they can get creative with it. You could always try, but I cant guarantee that they won't be able to tell.
BTW, this is something you might want to be careful asking; people can get kind of picky about it since it is a bit fraudulent and, in essence, your fault.
Just Replace the Screen

Where did you buy the phone from? Did they really try to charge you nearly $5000 for the phone?
I've gone through Asus RMA over the years, maybe the particular repair centre closest to me happens to be great but I've never had major issues with them. A laptop repaired in under 2 weeks, handful of motherboards, most of the time free or reasonably priced. If the device was under warranty they just accepted it. Never had to pay shipping though since its not too far from me.
If the screen is just defective then it should be covered by warranty as that would be a manufacturer caused issue. Your total cost should be whatever it costs to ship to the repair centre, and thats it.

Yes they did try to charge me 5k for it, and I ended up paying around 600 dollars in overdrafts and returned payment fees for all of my bills. My bank said it's Asus's fault, and guess what Asus said? "Our system doesn't make mistakes, it's a problem with your bank."
I've had absolutely dreadful results in the past with their turnaround time, and they've sent back a GPU and motherboard that were "fixed" but not really. I'm predicting to be told I have to pay around 500 to have it replaced somehow. And to be honest I may be done with them as a company for life, I've had about all I can stand at this point.
Which country are you in? They should fix it for free under warranty.
Just a quick update, it took them this long to get back to me. I received two extremely low resolution pictures showing very tiny surface scratches to the frame and the glass on the top left corner which would be from car keys.
Apparently that voids warranty and they want a suspicious $500 even to replace the entire OLED and glass assembly. As I expected a crock of BS from this company I'm not entirely surprised. What a joke though, $500 for an undamaged screen? Who's their drug dealer?

Unfortunately I had to deal with a similar issue with HTC for a defective camera module. Factory defect. If it comes broken from the factory its on them to replace of fix it. Legally. The warranty is an agreement IE a contract. Even the 90 day warranties.
I had to threaten and start the process of a lawsuit, and of company no company like that would want to lawyer up for such a small sum. The next day I got a reply from them saying they would cover everything, and I eventually got my phone fixed.
Ive had a similar issues like that with Corsair and Gigabyte. It happens all the time. No one wants to take responsibility for anything, and sometimes you gotta force em haha.
After previous experiences, they're not going to budge. They don't even have this phone in their system to FILE for an RMA, that took an hour phone call to begin with. I'm just never going to buy from them again, they're ****ing garbage when it comes to treating their customers right. I never got the $600 plus dollars in overdrafts out of them for their system charging me repeatedly for the order either, even after my bank concluded it WAS their fault.
I will however be throwing my story up on every social media post of their for the rest of 2019.

If someone is proven to owe you money you have legal precedent to collect it. They know this. They also know a lot of people wont go through the hassle of trying to collect their money. So does LG, HTC, Samsung, OnePlus, etc and they will all try to hold on to that money if possible. Usually thats as simple as not responding to the customer. Its easy when you dont have a storefront. Only really Apple does (AFAIK), which makes it easier to argue with them and get what you should be getting.
Feel free to **** talk them for the year, but personally I feel like one post in an easy to see place is good enough. May as well put that extra effort tightening the vice on them. its not impossible. And its yours.

No damage, stopped turning on, they already want me to pay shipping costs to and from them. So I fully expect their ****ty customer support to try and charge me since they already have tried to screw me once before by charging me four times for the initial purchase price upon ordering the phone.

Hi there, got the same. Pulled out of pocket - black screen (later started to blink and bootloop)
so, as i recall i've seen a "scratch" nearby the left airtrigger area. later on i couldn't find it so i just forgot about it (thought when i'm going to put on some glass protection i wount be able to see it at all)
but, it appears that "scratch" was an amoled matrix crack... because when it all went black and then white - i can clearly see that crack is in this area. the phone itself is undamaged, not a single scratch, and there is NO WAY i could apply such a pressure to pass through glass and damage te amoled (seen JerryRig bend test?)
so far waiting for the shop to answer about would they exchange phone or not -_-
idk, at last - when a phone is designed to have a pressure applied (airtriggers) how come it cracks?....
