Hi, I have noticed that the output of the power charger for the TD2 is 5v and 1amp.
I use the HTC phones a lot in my car, and my old Orbit2 (Polaris) car socket-USB charger is 5v and 2amp.
Will using the old car charger harm the device?
Many thanks

I would doubt it, as the original HTC wall-charger for the Polaris is also 5v and 1amp.

Ah - didn't have one to hand. Would make sense then.
I blew up a Polaris last year with wrong charger 5v-4a. Still worked, but the LEDs would no longer light up, and it would only charge on trickle from computer usb cable... Once bitten twice shy and all that.
Thanks for the info.
Well I wouldn't advise using anything but 5v/1a or 5v/0.5a, but if you used 2a on your Polaris I would guess your Topaz would react the same

Yes - seeing the standard wall charger for the Polaris was 5v-1a it should be ok as the 5v-2a car charger I have for the Polaris was OEM - in the box that the phone came with. (fingers crossed!)
Ahha! Solved. On the HTC accessory site they have a photo of the car charger cable in which you can just read 5v-2a

yup, the original htc diamond2 car charger is 5v at 2amps. been using it a lot and no problem with my unit. i also noticed the diffference in the voltage and asked if there will be any problem, they said no problem.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but would that mean I could also use the TD2 power charger with my ipod too (using my ipod's usb cable obviously)? From what I can tell, the Apple branded usb charger for the ipod is 5v at 1a.

Just picked up an unlocked Cingular/ATT 8525, but it only came with the USB synch cord. I know I can charge it with that, but I also have a wall charger and a car charger from my Razor V3 that seems to fit the factory specs in V&A. Would it be safe to use these with the Hermes or should I bite the bullet and get new chargers?
Any USB Charger should do it. All will be 5v at 500mA+.
As the above poster says other chargers at 500mA will work. BUT if you do some searches you will realise that the Hermes charger is 1000mAand in a few circumstances this is a better rating. So if you get the chance to pick up an official one then I suggest you do. There have been problems reported with using under powered non official chargers. For toppping up now and then it's not a problem though.
Mike
They'll work fine. Even if it's 500mA, it will just charge a little slower than the 1000mA OEM charger.
had an imate jam fried by a motorola charger... haven't been game enough to put my jasjam on again... cheers....
i would be very hesitant in using non genuine chargers. there are problems with them in regards to properly charging the unit. do a search and see for yourself on the forum
I used to use a Moto Razr charger with my wiza and my hermes. The only downfall is that if your battery completely dies it cant jump start it to begin the charge.
Is it fine to use a htc touch charger for my jasjam? So any genuine HTC charger that has a mini-USB connection should be fine?

Yes, I use my friends HTC S710 (Vox) charger all the time and it's fine both for my phone and Moto S9's headphones.

Ok thanks for that.
Would this USB charger be fine? http://www.zazz.com.au/ (there's 1.5 hours left on it) The DC output specs for the ac adapter are 400mA. Would this have a negative effect on the JasJam?

How sensitive is the phone to voltage fluctuations? Just noticed that my old 8125 charger is 5.5V and I also have a Motorola portable charger rated at 5 +/- 0.25V
I got a generic little car charger that works fine... It was "Lazer" brand from china...
Maybe, if you're in Australia you might be able to find it.
Cheers....
yeah, i'm using "Capdase" miniUSB charger [5V 1A]. it charges my hermes [from 10%] to full for ~2h30m
i have been using a motorola a1200 since i picked up this device used and it didnt come with anything
it just takes longer for the device to recognize its charging and it takes longer to fill up the battery
Hello.
I'm looking for a Car charger, and i found this product.
It has a standard MiniUSB connector, and it has 1000mAH (out) and 5V (in).
Is this what i need? how can i know that it won't damage my device?
or any MiniUSB will do the job?
Thank you all.
help please?

It has to be 5v (out) not 5V (in). Car batteries are in 12v or 24v, that's your input. Any usb is in 5V, that's your output.

It won't damage your device, because the USB specification imply a voltage of 5v, so any USB-compatible device will charge with a 5v input, and any miniUSB will do the job.
Considering the 1000mAh (out), it's a bit underrated but won't be a problem. A higher power output would allow you to charge your battery slightly faster. Car chargers are usually rated at 1500mAh.

Strange thing is that BB car charger is stated as 500 mAh output...
moto v3 works too...
I currently have a Belkin Micro USB charger in my car that I have been using to power / charge my ipod touch. This provide quick charge at 1A. Does anyone think would be an issue to use with the SG2?

Dirt cheap at Amazon, original made by Samsung charger.

I read a post here somewhere (dev forum maybe for i9100, fun with resistors thread) that the phone limits itself to 750mA when it charges. So you can use this car charger and it should be ok. I have a verizon charger that has a spare USB port on it, and the phone charges just fine. Only issue I have is the alternator noise that's put out the headphone jack when I am using the car charger. But I have some ways around that I think.
I was using a 1A charger that was giving me digitizer issues so bad that I couldn't complete my unlock pattern. I bought a new charger from AT&T that doesn't have the problem, but it doesn't say anywhere what its output current is.
This is the one I bought: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...0245&q_categoryid=cat1370027#fbid=UMdBTv5CnSG
I have the original charger that came with our X10, I also have a 3rd party car charger and I charger for a different phone in my office. I use all 3 of these chargers to keep my X10 charged up.
My question is this. Do all USB chargers have the same voltage and amp specifications?
So will my car/office charger damage my phone?

USB is 5V as long as I remember. I've charged my phone with car & galaxy s2 charger and it is still working, so it shouldn't make any difference.
Usb is what the pc pumps out
Car charger is what the adaptor pumps out, same for mains charger.
Chargers normally tell you what current what is pumped out,so check that out.
Usb must be more of a trickle charge...

Well for me, the USB cable is broken (never really understood why the design for microUSB's had the little flimsy teeth at the end). I simply replaced the cable with an LG brand and attached it to the original Sony charging block. Havent had any problems since.
You guys have much luck finding power supplies or cables for a generic USB power adapter for the springboard? I will probably use this device as a GPS quite a bit, and would like to have the car charger.

Ebay has plenty.
Just search for usb charging cable mediapad and iPad usb car charger. The purpose for iPad charger is to make sure that the charger has big enough amp/watt.

Yep, you need at least a 2 Ampere charger.
I used a bog standard 0.5A charger first in the car and the tablet ran out of juice after a few hours. Then I found a 3 Ampere car charger at a fuel station shop and now it runs fine.
I bought a USB-to-Mediapad power connector cable from some german online store to connect the car charger to the tablet. As we all now charging via the micro-usb port does not work.

Could you please provide a link to the site with usb-to-springboard adapter? I can't seem to find one anywhere
The microUSB port does charge but it is a slow trickle. I can get it from empty to 100% if I plug it into a microUSB charger overnight, but if I need to boost it as fast as possible it has to use the charge port.

Here you go.. this is the one I got.. pretty pleased with it.. One tip, only use a 1amp charger, with 1,5 or 2 amps the mediapad starts to overheat or something, it overall fails to function properly

5 volts, 2 Amp. It needs that much power, a smaller ps might burn the house down.
Big thanks to you man!!!
