HELP - bricked my phone - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi all
Thanks to an outdated link on some external website I updated my ROM with an older v4 raphael - and now I'm stuck at this "This concludes the beta test of this software release" screen.
I CANNOT get into bootloader either
I dont want to throw this phone away now !!!
I'd be eternally grateful to someone...ANYONE who can get me back into working mode ..
PLEASE HELP. I've been searching these forums for 20+ hours now without sleep - and found nothing to help me get the phone back to working state.

Try taking out the battery, SIM & SD card. Wiat a minute or so and put only the battery back in.
SIMULTANEOUSLY press volume down, center button and soft reset. CONTINUE to hold volume down and center button. You should get to the tri-color bootloader screen. If you do, you will be fine, just flash a new ROM from SD. If not...
BTW did you Hard SPL?
Doug M.

I just tried that
It comes back to the normal windows mobile screen (like it would if i did soft reset). I did run the hardSPL before doing this - and I did see the tricolor screen before i updated this ROM
I just cant figure out how to get to the tricolor

also make sure you press UP on the volume control this will hard rest you. You should be able to let it run and it will get to the calibration screen. Once there run a new ROM wrapper.exe and all should be ok. Had similar issues like this don't panic.

Ive tried every combination of button pressing.... it just resets back to the OS screen

Humour me for a moment ...
Pull out the battery, pull out the SIM, and pull out your SD Card if you have.
Put the battery back in and only hold the Volume Down button. Keep holding Volume Down and turn on the device.
If all is well, you should see the TriColor Bootloader screen with USB in the bottom white area. If so, connect you're USB cable to your pc & device.
Flash the HTC Stock ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478657) for now just to get the device up and running.
Let me know how you make out.
Cheers,

Now that the real tech studs are here you are in good hands. Just try what they recommend exactly. This is an unforgiving process. You really need to do it precisely as recommended.
It definitely sounds like this is fixable. Once you get this fixed, keep flashing.
Best of luck.
Doug M.

Thanks everyone !!
I have managed to unbrick it, reflash it and upgrade to RC4 and have it working !!
I love this community

I'd get this answer to the FAQ
Everyone who tried to flash a ROM for the first time has been terrified from this exact consequence...
hilaireg, I'm feeling much more comfortable now, knowing you are part of this helpful and amazing forum.

Thank god you are happy, otherwise if I see someone stuck with this process it hurts me more than anyone else. Always do ROM upgrade as shown by MSKIP in the sticky thread for beginners. Cheers.

Glad it helped ... if it was my suggestion that got the OP going.
sakshamkatyal is correct, mskip did a fantastic job at documenting the process and what I suggested ultimately does come from that article.
In this situation, the important lesson to learn is not the recovery; it is to always research and read up on a ROM one is planning to use so as to ensure that it is a) the most current, b) from a trusted source, and c) supported on an ongoing basis by the chef who prepared it.
Cheers,

bricked G$

is there anyway to unbrick a G4 wizard?
There are many ways.
But please tell us more about symptoms ?
Bricked how ?
What is on screen ?
i was just asking just incase i brick my phone.
when it is 'bricked', there is no way. It is like, when a person is 'dead' there is no way of reviving him/her. 'Bricked' is a terminal word, it may goes deeper as the gurus here find deeper ways to revive a unit.

Jesus might beg to differ... but I ain't arguing!
BOWLOFO:
If you read the sticky thread at top of this forum, you will see how to remove the bootloader from a ROM before you load it.
This means that if a upload goes wrong and you can't get it load normally (eg it might LOOK "bricked"), you can always initialise the loader, an bring it back to life again! (eg it wasn't "bricked" after all.).
"Bricked" literally means = turned into a brick = useful only as a paperweight!
I guess some cases that look like they are "bricked", are actually just a case of needing greater skill to bring alive again.
If you are careful to follow ALL the instructions in that thread, then you should be OK, as there should always be a way to bring it back to life from any "brick-esque" situations.
Is that what "resurrection" means.....
Mike
My Wizard is really DEAD now due to the my to power off during Rom upgrading. I did tried hard-reset but it's always display the bootloader screen without 3-color stripper, so it can't connect to ActiveSync.
Please help with your knowledge...
Thanks,

Find out how to enter to Wizard boot mode (Tri-color bootloader screen)
1.Turn your device off
2.Hold the Camera button in and push the power button for 2 seconds
...you should get the 3 color bar screen
3.Plug your usb cable in to the phone
Hope I can revive my device...
KC
This looks good to me.
BTW It seems like you can access the bootloader by different key combination + reset, if we except the CommManager + Voice Record + Reset combination wich is intended to make a full format of the user area.
So I'm used to make a Mail + Photo + Reset combination (keep Mail + Photo pushed until magic screen appears).
Once you're in bootloader mode (Rainbow screen), Activesync won't launch synchronisation as the device is no longer identified as a Pocket PC, better ready to be loaded with a new OS.
Oh one thing. If you're stucked somewhere in the boot process and want to revert to a stable version, make sure you use an official release.
It would be nonsense to try to revive a bad upgrade with another one...

Touch Pro Bricked??? Please tell me someone can help!!

Touch Pro Bricked
Ok so I am a noob and at least I admit it!!! I had been having problems with the display scrambling on my flashed to cricket sprint touch pro so what I did was install Hardspl 37 and tried to do a new flash. I last saw my display say that a problem occurred while flashing to the new rom and now I get nothing when I power up. I have tried hard reset I have tried soft reset I have tried about a million different key combos and I get nothing just the backlight pops on and nothing beyond this point. I get nothing when it powers up ...no startup sounds nothing...Just the backlight pops on and then nothing PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IS THIS PHONE A 300.00 paper weight???
Ok so Heres what I have done.... I started the flash from my pc but it didn't take so then I put hard spl 37 on my sd card along with raphimg.nbh and since then I get nothing like I stated above??? also bootloader wont come up the phone powers up but doesnt vibrate like it used to and I get just the backlight??? Some one on another site said to try to manually get into bootloader but I don't know how any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Should try pressing volume down button while reseting till you get to bootloader. If not, then...
Oh, and hardspl you want to use is ver 1.90 by Oli Nex. Not sure which one you used.
see bellow

Another thing that might have caused this is flashing gsm rom on cdma device (which is your case I suppose - Fuze). Make sure that rom you are flashing is for your device (either raphael (gsm) or fuze(cdma) ).
To get into boot loader hold down the vol down key while turning on the phone.
Best way for you to try is to take out the battery, put it back in, hold down the 'volume down' button on the side and press the power button.
Sorry that's all i can help you with. Hopefully someone else has had this happen and knows a way out of it

Step 1. Take a deep breath
Step 2. Search and read... sounds frustrating buts lots of devices have been brought back from the dead.
Step 3. Get the phone to bootloader mode (three horizontal color bars)
Step 4. Read some more or read other posts on what to do because I can't help past this!
I think you may have used the wrong SPL so start looking there.
I saw what Bauerpavel just posted... good stuff
If you can get to bootloader mode you should be able to start all over again from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
If you're running a Sprint Touch Pro, most of the roms here are not for your phone. May want to try ppcgeeks.com

Just to be clear, not to be confused with the AT&T HTC Fuze, which is a GSM device!
But you're with Sprint, so assuming you're in the US, you have a CDMA device. Check the CDMA forum at the top level of the Raphael forums. There will be lot's of good advice there on the specifics for that hardware.
Good luck!

Fully Bricked Raphael

Hello ,
my HTC Touch pro was bricked few months ago
i installed WRONG hard spl
on pc it showed 100% Completed
but i couldnt start my phone
how can i fix this ?
if i use Hard Reset method, i doesnt work , i cant start my phone
have you tried installing a new SPL via storage card (rename spl file to RAPHIMG.NBH and place it on the storage card) and enter bootloader mode by holding the vol down button when powering on the device?
the problem is
i cant start bootloader
nothing is working
I think you got yourself a brick...
Does it at least vibrate?
Run SPLExploit!
Dude, i have the same problem with you too but its not my TouchPro but its my old school Dopod D810. I flashed custom rom (my home cook) but forgot to add sumthin and finally i learned somethin that i can ****up my phones LOL. Just like what i thought my phone wont start and it refuse to enter on Windows OS but atleast bootloader mode still accessible. Thanks God
I search for post how to recover bricked phone (ofcourse on trinity room) and found some tools call "SPLEXPLOIT" it runs on DOS Mode. This program can erase your nand memory which in this case you flashed the wrong SPL and will rebuilt some bad Nand memory too. Good tho
I finally can bring my dead dopod came to life (for almost 1 year i left it on garage) lol. Just asked cmonex! maybe he can help you...
If this tools works universal i'm sure it will worked on TP too! Just asked cmonex for more details...
Run SPLExploit (as Administrator) --> while Enter in Bootloade mode -->
Just make sure that USB Cable was recognized as "USB" on the bottom of the screen not "Serial"!
When its done ....
NOTE: "Dont Soft Reset the phone even when SPLExploit ask you to SR the devices" just go ahead straight away flashing new custom rom or anything you want
Goodluck!
The OP can't get into bootloader, because the bootloader is corrupted/dead. So that isn't going to work.
JTAG is the only way to fix it, and as far as I know, no one knows how to do it on a Raphael.
Maybe playing with BIOS ( if BIOS can be accessed ) might help.
But BIOS can really make ur brick a worse brick if done wrongly please ask for help from the senior most members on Raphael forums.
And request them don't order them.
And if nothing works * I love to say this line *
You Just got Yourself a New Shiny Fine Edged Black Clear 600 U.S. Dollars worth Of a BRICK ! Enjoy !

Do you tried to start bootloader manually?
You can do that, press and hold Vol down, then reset button (with stylus), release reset (keep vol down pressed) and when the multicolor screen appears then release vol down key
I hope this can help you?

That is the only way to go to bootloader but as Farmer Ted mentioned his phone ( including bootloader is dead ! )
So i don't think there is any way out for you except if any really senior members can help you with bios or pump in something which starts your bootloader !

Dude, you might try to PM cmonex. I hear she can do miracles. You can check out this thread and see a miracle there. Who knows? See what can be done. This link will take you to her contact page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=322932. Best of luck to you my friend. Worst case scenario, sell it for parts. Several people around here are always looking to replace "stuff", including me .
the same problem
I did the same thing to my HTC Fuze aka rafael or touch pro, from some reason it was the same thing as diamond and i flashed wrong spl and completely bricked it, no bootloader no nothing. So i went to a service and they said it was a hardware problem so they had to send it somewhere else to be fixed. It took them 3 weeks to get the phone back, in not working condition saying that motherboard was dead. I guess thats what happens when you flash wrong stuff... Now i dont know what to do either. I would like to sell mine for parts if someone is interested or if someone know how to use jtag i would pay him to try to fix it...

[Q] Stuck in bootloader

OK title says it all, and yes I have been reading for the last 3hrs, all the possible solutions.
HD2 EU Vodafone UK
So here is what I have tried:-
Task 29 + flash stock rom - stuck -
Hard reset - stuck
remove HSPL - stuck
flash latest Vodafone rom from HTC 3.14.161.3 - stuck - also SPL now 3.03
flash old stock to downgrade SPL to 1.66 - stuck
Have also tried reinstalling MAGLDR - stuck - magldr doesn't even show.
I never get flash failed, and yet it will not get past the Tri coloured bootloader.
Also I cannot get it to flash from SD. I have tried holding the endcall and vol down but it just goes to the loader.
Vol Up and endcall goes to hard reset.
And, to make it worse, it's not even mine. I was returning it to Winmo for a mate.
Phones been running Android nand since March without problems.
All suggestions welcome.

that would indicate a stuck volume down button, since hard reset is volup and voldown. (You dont need to hold power, tap and release it, its teh vol buttons you hold)
You are quite right about the vol up and down for reset.
Also, I had been considering the possibility of a stuck button.
I will see if i can prove or disprove it.
Thanks for the response.
Does anybody know how many buttons are in the volume control rocker?
Is it:-
1 for down volume
1 for up volume
and another for both when you hold both in?
I am still trying to decide if the down volume button is stuck on.
When I hold both down I can get into reset mode, but if I only press the up it still goes to tri colour.
So I am still not sure if the down is stuck on.
3 buttons in the rocker could explain why up only doesn't go to reset but 2 buttons only would confirm that the down is not stuck on.
All comments welcome
two, you can feel them click on individually when you press them.
I too can only feel 2 and that would imply that the down is not stuck.
When I hold the up button and switch on it goes to boot loader, if it was stuck shouldn't the phone have gone to reset?
I was hoping it was like a mouse wheel with forwards, backwards and click down which is 3 positions.
I'm running out of things to try.
If it's not stuck why does it keep going to bootloader with out being asked?
Why can I flash roms and HSPL without any failure messages but still find no change on reboot?
Thanks for the replies and please keep them comming
I have managed to flash from SD. I tried a different card.
I have attached a pic of the screen saying update complete, update success.
But still stuck in bootloader
well, if it isnt hardware, it must be a corrupted bootloader issue, or bad nand blocks perhaps. ive seen quite a few 'only enters bootoader' threads over the yrs, but never really noticed a solution.
sorry, no suggestions, other than perhaps give teh freezer trick a go?
I'm desperate enough to try almost anything.
I will have to read up on the freezer trick.( don't want to kill it completely)
I have also contacted a couple of repairers for a quote using Jtag. the first said "sorry bricked" and I'm still waiting for the second reply.
Also reading up on Goldcards, maybe that's another option?
Thanks again for the reply.

lol, probably scared of doing it (it requires dismantling teh phone, and theyre notoriously easy to break, there are loads of threads here where someone took theirs in for a fix and the vol/bottom button/screen ribon cables got broke by the shop.

could be tho unlikely (sorry) goldcard flashing is just sd flashing but bypasses carrier and region checks.
if you can get the serial of your sd card, i can make you a goldcard image, no problem. (Don't bother using the free goldcard page on revskills website, its for android and wp7 phones) . PM me the serial and an email address if you want one.
@samsamuel Thanks for all your help and advice.
I have sent it off for repair today.
As I said in the first post, it's not even mine I was re flashing winmo 6.5 so my mate could sell it.
Hopefully it will be all sorted now.
Update.
I contacted 3 repairers.
1st said "sorry dead"
2nd said "£40 + postage"
3rd said "£21 which became £29 all in"
So I sent it to 3rd one, got a quick reply "sorry unable to fix, here is a full refund" and they returned it via 1st class post.
So yesterday I've got the phone in my hands, poped in the battery and I am presented on screen with a triangle and the words "flash failed please try again"
So task 29, now back with a tricoloured screen. See attached.
Now tried a custom Winmo, and it works
So I tried 2 Vodafone and 1 O2 stock roms and they all failed at 9%.
Tried another custom Winmo, and again working
So finally, I have task 29, CLK, clockwork v5 and latest MIUI. All working just fine.
Is there a stock looking custom winmo that anybody can recommend?
Hah, a lucky outcome. The radio is stuck, hence stock roms failing, but lucky for you its still a working radio, so customs are working. About the best result you could get, considering.
I'd say try the Artemis rom, but that will require spl 3.03.hspl, and occasionally the stuck radio issue messes with changing spl,,
Not so sure about your stuck radio theory, I have been able to change the radio without an issue.
I will give Artemis rom a go.
thanks for all the support.
Merry Christmas

Stuck in "Super Loop"

I just changed roms from Ice Cream Zenwich rc1.8.5 to MIUI 2.3.30. I was trying to get a custom version of MIUI (without the Chinese language) just for my personal well being. I ****ed up bad by not wiping data and clearing the other stuff. I attempted to flash right away and in the process of installing my batter fell out. (I have no back)
My phone turned off and it is stuck in some sort of install booting loop. I cant get into download mode or recovery mode. Odin will not read my device because of this and i cant really do anything.
I am lost at this point. Usually I can get the help i need on XDA but i just haven't found anything. If there is any way to get my phone out of this state please help me.

Hey! I believe I know of the "instal booting loop" which you are referring to. (I know this might seem like a rather silly question, however it's worth asking I believe) Have you by any chance tried removing your battery, and then holding the volume down + the power button, and then when the screen comes on, letting go of the power button while still holding the volume down button? The loop that you're referring to grants a SHORT window to enter recovery...I know because I've had this happen and it's not long before the phone auto reboots without entering recovery. The trick is to have the volume down button held down even before touching the power button so that the second you press down the power, your hitting the correct combo.
Aside from this, however....you really shouldn't flash down from ICS to GB without first returning to stock via Odin. That's bad juju my friend.
But hey, if this doesn't work, come back and let us know and we can troubleshoot. I know that my answer sounds obvious, but if what you're referring to is what I believe you are referring to...it's easy to think that you can't get into recovery, when in actuality, you can as long as you're approaching it a specific way.
I love you!
