Hi
Long story short, I bought on Ebay 2x 8525, one working perfectly, the second one not working (btw I knew it when I bought them...)
The working one has scratches on the screen, not the second one.
I would like to switch the screens.
Is there a manual on how-to-do so easilly?
Thanks
Michel
Either check Mike Channon's dismantling site or go on Youtube and type "8525 screen take apart." There's a full tutorial on how to do it. I would link you, but Youtube is blocked here. It's a very easy task, just don't strip your srews.
Thanks for the tip.
I have seen on Youtube one made by PdaPart.com
But if there was one available that I could print out, that would be awasome

I am purchasing an hd2 that has a non-responsive touch screen (not cracked/broken) from someone off of craigslist. I'm willing to take a chance and hope i'm lucky enough that it's not a complete hardware issue 'cause I obviously won't have any warranty.
My question(s) are:
Can you navigate through the phone and within the apps itself using only the physical buttons?
If I try to replace a digitizer with the ones on ebay for 30-40, do these need soldering? Has anyone had any success trying these? I'm aware that may not completely resolve the issue.
Will t-mobile (my carrier) provide me with an unlock code?
If I flash it with android do all the features of the phone work? WiFi, sound, camera, etc?

As Samsamuel said no there is no navigation buttons on the HD2, you have to use the touch screen.

I have not checked out the digitizers you refered to on Ebay but I would suggest you buy a LCD digitizer assembly already together tbat requires no soldering. This will allow one much easier instalation and replace both major parts that have to work to solve your problem. So you should be assured you will fix the problem.

Yes if you are currently a T-Mobile costumer they will must likely give you the unlock code, but you have to contact them.

Yes on just about all NAND Andriod ROMs for the HD2 have everything functioning with only very minor things being buggy.

i find this kind of odd. most electronics used to be configured where if you couldn't access the primary input there was always a secondary option...kind of like how if your mouse wasnt working, you can still do everything with a keyboard. granted, this isn't in the same category but engineering has definitely fallen off in the way of profits as opposed to proper functionality these days.
i came across this piece of software called 'mymobilizer' which lets you control and see the device and its screen from a computer. i installed but i can't connect because it requires an authentication on the device (press ok to allow or cancel to deny) and i was hoping the home, windows, or call key would act as an enter but unfortunately no. that would have at least given me some kind of flexibility to at least play around with it in it's current state and i was so close yet so far...
are there any other softwares just like this?

^ here's an example of what i'm referring to.
i dont think (or hope) that it needs a new lens since it looks to be in good shape and the t-mobile US HD2s digitizers don't require soldering from what i've been reading so is it a matter of simply unplugging it from the ribbon or what have you and inserting/plugging the replacement back in?
are there any good guides that focus just on the screen/digitizer disassembly and replacement? I saw that one video on youtube but it's not really a great step by step tutorial.

i currently only have a 1gb sd card on me, is it possible to install android from a card with that little capacity? i was reading one where the minimum requirement was 4gb.
If you buy the one on craiglist I wouldn't worry about SD card size as with a dead screen you won't be doing much with it except for use as door wedge perhaps.
dead screens are normally a hardware issue stripping the HD2 is not the simplest plus eBay screen parts are cheap poor quality junk.
If buyining a used HD2 you need to buy a good one & preferably a revision moel with the yellow reset button.

Yeah I agree have traded functionality for profits to a certain extent. And I agree not having any kind of control with any external buttons is a drag, bit it is a all touch screen device. The link you posted shows a LCD and digitizer wich is what I was talking about and yes this kind is the solderless kind that just plugs into the mainboard. I personally have not done it but I have read about people that have and watch a video or two.
As far as a spacific video to watch I really don't have one to suggest but seach YouTube really good you should find something that will help you out.
Now on the SD card I would get atleast a 2GB to 4GB.
The link is just the digitizer.

+1 The green camera issue plagues alot of users and it's hardware all the way. You'd be bigger then, well, the big guy if you posted a fix for the camera..
Thanks for support.
I don't understand what the problem with the camera is. Do you have some details to give me ? or a video of the issue ?

Hi, great video and great timing, my screen cracked yesterday after a "screen first landing from my bed". I already ordered a replacement one and your video gave me great hints on how to dismantle it, however I'm still wondering if anything else is needed to put it back together with the new one. Does the screen comes with some kind of glue on the sides? Any tape that I need to take in consideration? or it should just snap back in place?
Thanks for doing this tutorial and I would appreciate anyone who can help me with these questions.

The video says not available in my country. I am in germany. I would love a nice video on how to take this beast apart and try to fix the camera issue. I press on it and it seems to work but only if I press down hard so maybe something got dissconnected.
Or hell find a place that will fix it, I cant send it to ASUS because of the unlock thing and because I dropped it recentlly but no other damage was done to the tablet though
now just some scratches

TRY ON EBAY I BOUGHT ALREADY AND WAITING FOR THE DIGITAL TOUCH SCREEN ALSO
search for "TF201 DIGITIZER" YOU WILL FIND A LOT
hope i help you
I'm aware that they have them on Ebay, dozens of them, but every one that I have seen bought has a screwed up X-axis.
When you install yours make sure to test it BEFORE you take it down.

I think he means to test it before you permanently mount it.
There doesn't seem to be any way to remove a cracked digitizer from the mouning bezel without destroying it. Even though your glass may currently be cracked, I'm sure it still works at least. If you remove (and destoy) your digitizer glass, you won't want to discover that your replacement has the left and right axis reversed.
Disconnect the ribbon cable for existing (cracked) digizer glass. Connect the new digitizer glass. Boot your prime. Make certain that the new glass is the right model and the left/right is correct.
Even easier than that. Compare the rev numbers of the replacment digizier and the existing one. If they are different revs, you'll be hosed.

So is it just a strip of the screen?
If you really really wanna be able to get it unlocked, Download the correct version of clockwork mod for our phone one that's not touch, has to use the volume rockers and fresh install the rom, Or as a matter of fact, Just boot into whatever recovery you have and clear data/factoryreset, that'll get rid of your lock pin
Hello from me too!
I have a strip on my touch screen that doesn't work. It's right where the Search button and Install on Play Store is and Clear on the Phone notifications, too.
It had the stock rom, I have replaced the screen with the digitizer when it fell down. It worked after that. I had to unscrew the phone one more time because my LCD was touching the screen and the phone had gone mad. After that, and a couple of days later, I noticed that the strip didn't work anymore. Today I finally flashed a new rom (King Cobra 3d) and nothing's changed so I figured it might be a hardware problem...
What's your opinion?
Thank you!
Common Hardware Problems on evo3D
Its the hardware. and your carrier should change it at no cost. (Sprint)

I've replaced my digitizer twice myself. I got a cheaper one the first time, and figure that's what I get for trying to go on the cheap. (I was out of warranty). Sorry to say it but it could be that again.

I think I don't have a warranty because I've changed it myself. It's my fault...
I think I'll buy a new one... I unscrewed it a while ago so I could see if sth had been misplaced or if the digitizer had scratches or sth like that.
I saw that the ribbon's top had been ripped off right where it bends on top of the LCD... Don't know if that's the problem...
p.s. I live in Greece. My carrier is Cosmote. We don't have Sprint here...
Yep, if the ribbon cable is ripped, that would be your problem. Don't go too cheap on your replacement. Good luck!

The last one I got from Amazon is the one I'm using now (about a month old), and spent $20 US on it, which was NOT the cheapest of them. Not knowing the exchange rate right off hand, would venture to say the one you're speaking of is not a "cheap" one. So go for it. Just take your time replacing it and be careful with ALL the ribbon cables. Good luck!
Hi, my screen on DX got broken last week and I was wondering if it is possible to replace digitizer only (without display). Is it as easy as in this video? I mean, do I have to disassembly it, or will heatgun be enough? Thanks.

Hello, I am looking to change my battery that has swollen.
Do you have an idea where to buy it?
AFAIK you can't buy new batteries, nor can you remove the old one unless you know exactly what you're doing.
it is removed from the phone but I can not find a seller for this item ......
aliexpress, there is a lot of stuff for our phones. i picked up the screen about a month ago, and it cost only 20$.

I have also bought a screen from AliExpress, but there are no instruction on how to replace. Do you have any kind of instructions? I can only find remove the screws on the bottom and the simcard holder, then use a prying tool between the bezel and the backplate. But this is very limited? Any advice? Ofcourse doing it is all at my own risk, but I need some help

Hi Bubu,
I can't find the video. Do you have the link or can you post the title (if a link wouldn't be allowed).
Any help is probably better that none.
A local phone shop was able to open it. Now I am removing all parts. I am currently stuck with the battery, but I expect the screen will also be a challenge. At least it seems it was at the first Swift.
Thanks,
