wiping contacts clean - Touch Pro CDMA

Ok, i have gone through teh arduous process of deleting duplicate contacts in my ms outlook and on my phone. took a few hours to get everything correct in outlook. NOW, I need to wipe my phone clean of all contact info so that it can not go back to the way it was.
If active sync has a way to recover the contacts i want to blow that up as well. I want the outlook contacts to be imported into the phone and ONLY the outlook contacts so that both outlook and my phone are mirror images of each other. I kept getting duplicates and old contacts would be deleted and somehow mysteriously get back on the phone?
any advice?

active sync has a button you click when you setup the first initial sync to the phone that says "replace items on my device with items on this computer"
you had it clicked to do "combine items on my phone with items on this computer"

lost contacts

i'm hoping this is a known issue
after a couple months i decided to synch my pda but i ended up loosing most of my contacts can it be recovered
i synch with two computer on the desktop i erased all the contact in outlook ( there were my wife's pda) then synch'd only to find out i'd lost my contact
so i went to synch with my laptop since all my contacts are in outlook and again ended up copying the contact on pda (what was left of it ) onto the computer, the strange thing is that during synch it showed that some 150 plus contacts were being synchronised but i only ended up with 15
is there a way to get'em back
thanks
in activesync under options and under rules
there is a dropdown box called desktop
if it's not set to leave the item unresolved
or always replace the items on this pc
then it can update your xda to being empty if you sync with a pc which is empty contactwise
Yeah but I've had that Problem and I've had Both Contacts In outlook and Contacts On my PPC! I Sync My Machine(s) and they both counter act each other and wipe them selves?!??!?!?!??!? Causes lots of PROBLEMS its Very Distressing :-( GrrrrrrrrrrEven Tho THEY Have Identical Contacts NONE ADDED on Either Machine!
on both computer my settings are to leave the item unresolved under desktop
and it's also set to synchronize all contacts
if that means i'm not getting back my contacts i'm F*&^*k
unless someone knows of a way to retrieve them from where they're hiding

No numbers for contacts imported by syncing with google?

Can anyone help me solve this problem?
I exported all my old contacts to a CSV. I then updated my Hero's ROM and started fresh. To get my contacts back I just imported them into my google contacts and synced the phone.
It appeared to sync fine, all the contacts came up - but NONE of them have any phone numbers, birthdays, other information that is all clearly there when I view the contacts in gmail.
Birthdays etc I can deal without, but no phone numbers is a BIG problem as I have over 400 contacts and I'm not interested in typing them all back into the phone. Why isn't google contacts sync working correctly?
Has anyone else had this problem?
Though I haven't had a problem with syncing Gmail contacts to my Hero, I would like to know this just in case it happens.
I had trouble synching the contacts I had uploaded to the gmail web site on my wife's phone. we go them to synch correctly by forcing a new synch event.
go Home and press Menu
Select Settings, the "Data Synchronization" form the list that comes up
Select Google from the next list
Under the section "Application sync settings" remove the checkmark next to Contacts
Wait a few seconds then put the checkmark back. This fiorced a synch and pulled up the gmail contacts that were loaded on the web page.
I hope this helps!

Problem with loss of contacts.

Over the last few days I have completely lost all of my contacts twice. I would really appreciate some advise or a point in the right direction to solving my frustration.
I am running the official HTC ROM version 2.73 and everything was running fine up until two days ago. I originally had all of my contacts stored under 'Phone' as I had a fresh sim card and the rest of my contacts were spread over several accounts (gmail, hotmail, exchange server) and none of my phone numbers were stored electronically.
The first time there was some error message that I did not pay attention to (as they do tend to pop up every now and again) followed by a phone reset and loss of all my contacts and some associated data (call logs but not email or SMS). After attempting and failing to find these numbers I decided to re-enter my contacts but this time save them under 'Google' contacts so they would be backed up to my gmail.
I had just finished re-entering all of my contacts and then all but 30-odd were gone again. This happened following a forced close and reset of the sense UI (as has been happening with increased frequency of late). All of my favourites had also been deleted - leaving me very frustrated! The lost contacts are also not saved in my gmail and many that remain have been duplicated four or five times.
If anyone could advise me on my problem I would be very appreciative
Thanks
David
Do you utilize HTC Sync ?
As I understand, contacts stored in the "Google" Group are automatically synced with contacts in you Google Account ; contacts stored in the "Phone" Group are synced by HTC Sync with contacts in Outlook or Outlook Express on your PC running HTC Sync.
I had installed HTC sync but was yet to untalise it as I did not realise that 'Phone' contacts had anything to do with it. I do not have any contacts stored on my home laptop and therefore whenever a sync was done, zero contacts were synced.
I have changed the setting of my sync from MS Outlook to Windows address book and all of my contacts seem to have reapeared - both phone and google contacts. All of my phone contacts seem to have lost the link with Facebook but I think that may be a recuring problem with Hero users.
Thanks for the suggestion - hopefully now I can sort all of my contacts out!
Weird???
I have never had a problem with Sense UI having to 'force close'
That's very unfortunate, especially as it happened just as you'd input all your contacts again.
I never use HTC Sync personally but if you have all your contact's details - try inputting them into your Google account using a pc. This way they should just sync with your phone automatically, and it's much easier than entering them on your phone!
If the 'force close' issue keeps happening - I would send it back and get a repair done, or a replacement!
Hope this helps,
Dan

[Q] Contacts and calender sync and duplicates

My wife uses a Hero.
When she got it we synced it with pc-outlook and got all her contacts and calendar on it.
But while using the hero for several months without paying attention she added new contacts as “gmail” contacts and added new calendar entries as “My Phone”, instead of “PC sync”.
Now none of these new entries can be synced with outlook and what’s worse, if I want to change the rom I don’t have a way to get these new entries back to the phone. I know I can sync the gmail contacts back to the phone but she needs them on her pc as well.
A second problem is that after each outlook sync some of the original outlook contacts are duplicated. Erasing them doesn’t work since after the next sync they all come back. Some are 8-10 times over…
So:
1. How do I sync “gmail” and “My Phone” contacts and calendar with outlook? Can I change them to “Pc sync”?
2. How do I get rid of the duplicates once and for all?
anyone?
anyone?

[Solved] Mass Removing Contacts from Gmail Sync

I set up my Galaxy S II Skyrocket to sync with both my personal and work Gmail accounts. Trouble is, it synced about 4,000 contacts from the work Gmail.
Now, I understand that I can hide those in the display options, but I want them gone completely. I deselected "Contacts" from syncing with my office Gmail, but the huge number of contacts remains.
How can I remove the contacts that are attached with specifically the work Gmail, and leave behind my own personal contacts?
Thank you for the help.
Edit: Well, it figures I'd spend a week figuring this problem out, only to solve it the moment I ask for help. For those who may have a similar problem and stumble across this thread in the future, here's how I solved it:
I downloaded Samsung Kies to sync my phone with my PC.
I then performed a full backup of my phone (especially the contacts).
On the left hand side of Kies, under the section labeled "Connected devices," I selected "Contacts" from under my phone. I then selected the tab with my synced emails, and from there could easily select all the contacts associated with the offending account, and deleted them.
Click "Save to device" and you're done. Huzzah.
I could be wrong, but if you go into:
Settings->Accounts and Sync-> [the account for your work email]
And uncheck Contacts, I think they'll be gone again. Looks like you tried that. If you did, and they're still there, check the sync settings. You can choose the priority (i.e. keep the contacts from the phone, delete those from the gMail server etc).
When all else fails, delete all of your contacts, uncheck Contacts from the work account and resync properly.
