Hello,i just my second hand HTC Hero, and i need some help.
First of all,the phone is not rooted.Should i try to root it now,or i should wait for 2.1 to come out first?
In the phone there are contacts from previous owner. How can i mass delete them? Also,is there any easy way to transfer contacts from my old Sony Ericsson W910i to HTC Hero?
Another question, maybe not in the right place,is can i enable my onboard wifi card so it works as a wifi hotspot? This is the only way to have wifi for my Hero in my home.I tried the Cnet video, that shows how to make that, but it does not work on my windows 7 64bit.Maybe need to change the settings on something
Since now i don't have a viable internet for my mobile (not even 3G works atm),is there a way to browse and download apps from android market?
Also,i would like to know if there is any trigger button for 3g,so i disable it when i don't need it,in order to save some battery? What i have in mind is a sortcut similar to wifi, bluetooth and GPS.
Last but not least, the previous owner has his google acount name on the phone, and i am unable to change it to my google account, because i can't find any option that let me change account name.Is it possible to delete the old google account and put mine?
More questions are about to come, but thats all for now.
Thanks in advance.
Best to root it before the official 2.1 release as it might become much harder/impossible after the update. Root it, install a custom recovery, wipe the device & flash a new custom ROM. This will also remove all traces of the last owner including their google account. There's lots of info on how to do all of this on xda-dev.
You can access quite a lot of Android apps on the web, but there's no access to the official on device Android market via the web.
Toggling 3G. Not sure I've seen a widget for this, but you can usually turn it off in settings, depending on the ROM you're running. Failing that there's a dialable code which will do the job. That said, if this is just about saving battery life, you'll find lots of others tweaks to help with that. It's a common subject that comes up time & time agan.
I can't offer informed help with sharing your Windows 7 internet access, but I imagine you need to turn on Internet Connection Sharing, or whatever it's called now, on whichever interface connects your PC to the internet. The PC wifi interface probably doesn't even need to act as an access point, if you only need the Hero to connect to it; ad-hoc networking should be adequate. I'd concentrate on sorting the wifi first. When you can ping the PC from your Hero & vice versa, then move on to the ICS aspect.
Thanks for the answer. If i root the phone, can i put HTC ROM back,or i must pick a custom ROM?

No no,... You can use a custom ROM, or flash stock ROMS if you decide to do so.
Take a look at Modaco's Stock ROMs or at the "stickies" at the top of the Hero Android Development section here at XDA.
Peace Out.
I have some extra issues so i thought that its better to post them here instead of making a new thread.
So here we are:
I tried to root my phone according to One Click Root on unlockr.com.Everything seems to be ok but my phone is not rooted.
My hero runs 2.73.405.5 build.Maybe i have to downgrade?
Also i would like to ask if there is a serious reason to install a new radio.I think that it should be fine with the default one isn't it?

The build you are running isn't rooted by default but you can install a recovery image on it and get a custom rom which is rooted installed. (follow my guide for details)
Radio updates can improve your signal.
Thank you i will try your guide.Actually i tried with Amon RA 1.5.2 to load latest Modaco Rom.Everything seemed to be ok,but then when i rebooted phone the original rom was loaded again and nothing happened with the Modaco rom.
How can i update Amor RA 1.5.2 to latest?Just do the whole process again but with the new version (1.6.2)?

To update it just follow the instructions in the Amor RA thread.
Are you sure you wiped everything before flashing modaco rom?
Thank you everything worked fine! Now i have VillainRom v5.3 and i am happy!

I have an HTC HD2 and I'm on T-mobile. What I've noticed is that my phone doesn't ring sometimes and then I'll just get a voicemail notification (if voicemail was left). It's an intermittent issue, I've tested it several times from another line.
Does anybody know what the issue is? I did a search on Google and there seems to be a lot of the same issues others are having across other networks and other versions of the HTC but, haven't found a solution.
Thanks
i had never heard of this issue until yesterday, when my phone simply did not ring, then i got a txt asking why i didnt answer. very confusing. only seemed to happen once. i have done a lot of tweaks, so maybe ive changed something i shouldnt have. if it helps im using a generic, unbraded, factory unlocked HD2, with CleanEX DsE 3.5 and radio 2.11. have you tried re-flashing the ROM and seeing if that helps?
interestingly, i have noticed that my signal can be irratic at times, often just dropping for no reason, then coming back about 30 seconds later. i live in a full signal area, so i know thats not a problem. also my data connection will 'freeze' at times, where it shows its connected, but nothing is able to use it, i have to disconnect and reconnect, and this may take 2 or 3 attempts before it connects and is usable. have you experienced the same issues?

I haven't tried flashing the ROM, I've been hesitant on doing that since I feel like I might mess something up. I'm not sure how to either. I have SPB backup, so I would hope if I messed something up then I would be able to easily restore it.
I haven't really noticed any dropping, my call qualities have been good. I've tried to dial a number before and it might drop right then while it's trying to make the call. So, I'll redial the number but, once I'm connected I haven't noticed any issues with calls dropping.
Data connection has been working pretty good as well, I've been using the wifi quite a bit and not really had any issues. I don't have a data plan setup with T-Mobile so I just use the wifi. I don't know if using the actual data connection would give different results than using the wifi.
flashing a rom is really easy it's all autoinstall, just have to read carefully / look at the video's, there A LOT of them out there.

updating the rom may help, as it will also update the radio drivers. what i would suggest, if you dont have much experience in flashing a ROM is to have a look on the official HTC support site. on there it will give you a list of updates avalible for your phone. download the latest ROM for your phone (for me, this is WWE 1.66 with radio 2.06) and install that. any data on an sd card will remain intacted, but sync you phone with outlook and backup stuff like contacts, messages etc before you do it. i personally use microsoft myphone to do all that.
flashing the ROM with an official one is very straight forward, and as quoted above, its all auto install on the phone, and there are about 3 or 4 steps that you need to do PC side (this is all explained in the update program you download). i would give that a go and see if things improve, you will also gain improved performance, new features and better battery life with newer ROMs, so its worth doing
custom roms are a bit more tricky to install, but often offer more features and improvements over stock roms. if you need help with this have a search on the forums, there are lots of guides and help on how to flash with a custom rom

I have a T-Mobile HTC HD2 (U.S.) and I went to the HTC site and on the download page for the ROM update it has ROM Version: 1.66.707.1. When I check the ROM version on my phone it is: 2.10.531.1.1 (82076) WWE
Also it says on there - Note: This update is not intended for use on T-Mobile(US) HTC HD2, and doing so may have undesired side effects.
So, I suppose I'll have to start looking into the custom ROM's.

good job you didnt flash that, the 'undesired side effect' of flashing that official rom (or any other non tmous official rom) on your tmous phone would have been a permanently dead phone.
im not sure about tmous roms, maybe have a look on the t-mobile us support site and see if anything is listed there. if you want to look at custom roms the first thing you will need to do is get hspl (the latest version is hspl3, which i believe is compatible with tmous). if you search on the forums you can find the official thread. this removes the security checks and allows you to install custom roms. after that you will need to choose a radio version. again search on the forum and find the latest one compatible with your hd2 (there is an official radio thread which i would look at). this normally comes with an updater program included, but if not, search for 'custom ruu' and follow the instructions on the thread. finally you need to pick a custom rom. there are literally 100s to choose from, with different features, looks, apps and even some android builds. personally, i use cleanex dse because of its speed and stability. im not sure if this is tmous compatible, so check on the rom threads.
alternativly, you could have a hardware fault with your phone, which will be repaired under warrenty, so you could go down this route. personally, i would do this first and see if things improve, as although custom roms can be uninstalled and the steps can be reversed, the warrenty is voided by using hspl and installing custom roms.
still have the problem? Might not need a hard reset. Try this solution here:
(LINK)
One of your programs might have deleted the "Volatile" folder, so
no Volatile folder => no WMPlayer => no MP3 playback => no ringtone.
Re-creating an empty "\Application Data\Volatile" folder usually brings it all back.
If it fixes the problem temporarily and recurs again, you might have to change the temp folder as outlined in the link above, or just install that CAB.
Hope this helps. If this solves your problem, please edit/add [solved] to your title.

I have the same problem. Sometimes incoming call does't ring, altough the phone vibrates. I'm using an european HD2 with the original 1.48 rom. I didn't found the reason... the changed tweak... the influencing application installed. It seems happening randomly, I can get a call without incoming call ring and after a few minutes I can get a second call from the same caller with a normal ring.
hey there, im unsure about this radio image thing, would someone tell me about it and also could someone post a link with the best image, thankyou
There's really only 2 radio versions floating around for US Arias. There's the old one that it shipped with originally, and this updated version that came with the 2.2 update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007684
You can get the image from that thread and flash it from CWR (check the md5 sum first or you will brick your phone). Or, the safer way is to run the official RUU to upgrade to 2.2 (will install the above radio), then run AlphaRevX to S-OFF.
I should add that there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in call quality between the two radios, but YMMV.
+1 I've used both radio images and the newer one shows slightly better signal strength (47.63.35.21U_7.16.35.11), for me at least. The gps did lock in a little faster. If you go to menu-Settings-About phone-Software information, in the Baseband version (shows radio you're using) the older one I believe ended in a 6 and the newer does end in 11. If you use Astro File manager you can long press the zip, choose details to see the MD5 checksum. Or you can use AFV (Android file verifier), it's a free download in the market. Personally, I would say go with the newer one, not everyone will see an improvement but from what I've read most do. Verify the MD5 checksum!!!
As far as gps goes the biggest improvement I've seen is using this gps script. Instantaneous GPS Fixation CWR v1.2 US & INTERNATIONAL FINAL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11342772&postcount=1 I used the one for my region (South Mid States), there's versions for different countries also . With this script gps locks in very fast and very accurate.
You can also use GPS Status to reset and download new assistance data, it's a free download in the market, it works great to show how many satellites your gps sees and how many it's locked into. Screenshot of GPS Status taken inside house using above script.

I get the feeling you're not rooted. IF that's the case, then you don't have cm recovery. Its something you have to flash to your phone yourself.
That said, if you aren't up for rooting your phone the alternative is to run the 2.2 ruu from htc. Then again if you're not rooted then you most likely are already on 2.2 due to either when you bought your phone or an htc ota update. If that's the case you most likely already have the radio update. To check just turn off your phone and turn it in by holding volume down button and the power button simultaneously. This takes you to the bootloader screen which displays the radio version. The newer radio ends in 11. You can also get to cm recovery from this screen (if I was wrong about the root thing) by selecting recovery in the menu.
Sent from my cm7 Aria.
all good now i am rooted i have my htc aria cyanogenmod 7.0.3 with drowningchild kernel, with the 47.63.35.21U_7.16.35.11 radio image, i was just having a blonde moment nd forget what cmr stands for which i now know it stands for clockworkmod recovery, but thankyou anyways was just inquiring
issues with wifi
Hello
First of all, sorry my english
I had installed on my Gratia the version of cyanogenmod 7.2 that comes in that thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430267
concretely 2/10/12 revisiĆ³n
It works perfectly, but there is a little issue with wifi
When i connected to a wifi point and i exit from its range, and enter in other wifi range that i had stored in my wifi connections, phone not connect automatically to that other wifi while phone is locked. but i had to connect it mannually unlocking the phone.
In the original rom, when i was near my home, for example, phone connects automatically to my home wifi
In other hand, when i connected to a wifi and the wifi not detect activity, it disconnect from acces point, although i have put to never the sleep polytics of wifi. This problem is solved partialy because i install an app from market that make a ping every minute to a extern ip, then wifi detects activity and no sleeps.
A friend tell me that there is an update called "baseband" that update the part of android that controls radio connections, and this update can solve this problem.
I search that update in xda forums and find this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153385&highlight=baseband
but when i try to update it with clockworkmod recovery it tells me that the update is in an old version previous to android 1.5. (amend) and abort the process.
I dont know how to solve problem.
Thanks
Hello,
I have a huge Problem:
Last weekend i installed HSPL on my European HTC Titan and flashed Dynamics V2.0.
This Rom was extremely buggy and wasn't booting again after I turned it of once.
Then I tried the second Rom, Eburon V2.1, which had the same Problems.
After that I installed the European Stock 7.8, which worked better but also stopped working after I installed the official Facebook App.
The next one I used was EB Edition V2.6, worked for a whole day but stopped working after I installed an App from the market. Now the phone isn't booting any more.
I have always installed the right radio, which was in the download file.
My question is:
Are those custom roms so buggy or am I the only person who cannot install any Rom?
How can I fix these problems?
When there is no solution to that I have to sell my HTC Titan and buy an Android Phone again, where custom roms are really working...

The answer to your question is; no! I'm currently running Eburon 2.1 and it's running as good as Eburon 2.0 which I've posted runs as smooth as a baby's butt! I'm not familiar with the European Stock 7.8 and I'm curious as to whether it's a custom ROM and designed to run with HSPL. Microsoft's Facebook app has always been buggy; however, within the People Hub it runs there too and all you have to go is go up under your settings and accounts and put your username and password there and you're good to go. As for your phone not booting, I have no idea.
What you need to do is literally start over; if...if...you do not have HSPL; double check this up under your bootloader. Attempting to install all these different ROMs begs the question if you re-locked your phone. Start from knowing for a fact your device is HSPL and has the words "CottulaH" on the bootloader screen. If it does, proceed to flashing your ROM but make sure you have at least a 50% battery charge and the installation process isn't disrupted for any reason. It's a toss up here as to which ROM is the best but you can't go wrong with either the Dynamic 2.0 or Eburon 2.x series.

Sounds to me like you are getting bad flashes? Most WP7 custom roms are very stable and perform well 99% of the time. Been using the Dynamics rom on one of my Titans for 2 months or so with no problems whatsoever. The official FB app is buggy...I don't even both installing it.
Now, I'm not here to bash Android, but I dabbled into cooking some Android roms a few years ago. IMHO custom roms on WP are about 10x's more stable than any Android rom I've come across.
Ok, thanks for your replies, but just don't use the official Facebook app isn't a solution.
Could it be a solution to wait ca. one hour after installing a rom and let the phone configure everthing (maybe the phone needs that time)?
Because I set up all my accounts and install the apps I need directly after the rom has booted. Maybe it works if I wait before doing that.

Definitely - not. This is not a reason of your issue. I would offer to repeat the procedure of HSPL-ing. All customs work at least not worse than the stock roms.
I guess you may have the hardware issue. To be 100% sure - try to flash older stock - like 2.05 (with 16 radio). If it also does not work for you - than - pass your phone to the workshop - it's hardware.

I had that idea after flashing Deepshining V3: The readme says that you have to activate "Trust all applications" in Root Manager, I wanted to do that, but I got an error message "No root access. Be sure you have fully unlocked your rom".
This was very weird, because that's the app needed to permit other Apps root access.
Also, none of the 3 soft buttons worked.
I waited a couple of minutes and restarted the phone several times, and suddenly the soft buttons worked and Root manager had root access.

Looks like the phone is swapping or caching something for ages. Maybe it's a Storage card malfunctioning. So hopefully the fixing will be just card replacement.
Mhh, ok, so what should I tell HTC? I can't say that I wanted to install custom roms, but none of them is working, so the phone needs a card replacement xD.
I tried installing Dynamics V2.0 again, and it works until I try to install WhatsApp, then it ends up in bootloops.
But the original stock 7.5 Mango worked without any problems. If the storage card is damaged, the original rom would also not work.

similar problem
my Problem is, that after installing the Dynamics Rom, the device is just showing the white bootscreen with the htc-logo on it.
I am still able to enter bootloader mode, but I don't see any advantage in it.

I hope someone can help me.
Did you follow the instructions at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684912 before flashing the Dynamics Rom?? If you didn't debrand and unlock with HSPL you get stuck or have the wrong radio rom installed.

I did. But I think I know what I was doing wrong. The step between finishing HSPL installation and Dynamics setup...should have I installed the phone first and done a Zune synchro? Cause I didn't -.-
Just install the radio rom that comes with the Dynamics rom. That should do it. You don't need a Zune synchro afterwards unless you want to copy pictures, music, videos back to your HTC.
I have used an uinlocked tmobile vibrant for a few years now an have had various ROMs inbstalled. However several mo0nths ago it came up semi-brain dead after running Team Whiskey.
Since restoring to what I thought was an original image downloaded from the web, I soon discovered that I could no longer access Google Play/ Android Market. I tried everything and could no longer even restore previous ROM images. I have since discovered that the image was for a T959V and this identifies itself as 4G when it is ion fact not.
I am convinced that there is something fundamentally wrong with file system or the like. Over the months I have also had an increased lag and just weird things happening like the Edge network icon appearing wile connected to wifi , frequent hangs, etc.
I would like to achieve the following if possible
A complete reformat / restore to a more recent ROM in as few steps as possible.
A ROM new enough to hopefully run XBMC on my phone if possible
Update modem firmware??? As I am in Mexico with this phone and would like to access TelCel 3G band and can currently access only Edge

Questions
What is the recommended newest and most stable ROM? Will it run xbmc on this phone?
Can I do a clean install to a third patty ROM?
Will modem firmware get past the frequency band limitations to use the 3G network on TelCel Mexico?
What is the critical stuff to back up?
On an unrelated note does anyone know if the T959V (4g) case will fit on the t959 (3g). I ask this because the lense cover on my case has become fogged. I need to replace this part, and the cases I find on ebay that have this part are for the t959v . Those for the t959 do not have this part. Maybe someone knows where I can get this?
Thanks in advance
Mark
I would use the toolbox, revert to stock, your play problems should be alleviated, however when using odin use Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar. Eclair is dead to playstore and Rom manager. always keep a backup of your IMEI on your sd/card and computer its important. Use the Update .zip for root its all in the search.Try ics zen if you can find it, verrrrry nice. ciao
pm me on the photo prob, I have a toast vib thats in the desk, it may have more parts than the photo screen if you need it.

Thannks for the reply
Correct me if I am wrong but stock is Eclair. Are you saying that I should revert to a stock Froyo via odin? Everything I have read said I always had to do eclair first. Should I ODIN directly to this Froyo image

??
I tried that download and from mexico it said "this offer is not calid in your area" neither selecting skip ad , nor waiting resulted in anything. I then went through a USA proxy and all I get is a download manager windows exe file. Wonder why people post importyant files to sites like this when they are so often problematic?
What toolbox do you refer to?
Do you mean ICZen as found on this page?

Hello everyone,
I am a complete noob and hopefully you guys can help me out. I have tried to wrap my head around all the new android terms and my head is spinning. Anyways, I was given a HTC Sensation 4G Z710a on the Bell network. I registered on the htcdev to unlock the bootloader and following the steps, I fail to get the token. I have tried on two PC's and my friend tried on his MAC. My friend thinks the reason it fails is because the phones software is not up to date. Is it possible that it cannot get the token because the software is out of date? We tried to update the software and it fails. The problem looks like it is due to the installation of a clockworkmod. I have tried using the factory reset and the the cwm to do a factory reset and nothing has changed. Other than this, it looks like the phone has S-OFF and is not rooted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind of hard for us to tell you if the issue is the software update, when you haven't told us which update it's on. However, since the phone has already been modded, and is S-Off, that means the bootloader is already unlocked so using the HTCdev website is not needed. You can just update via a custom rom since you already have CWM.

Thank you for your reply with the good news. This is probably irrelevant now that you said i can update via a custom rom. Under software information: Android Version; 2.3.3, HTC Sense Version; 3.0, Software Number 1.35.666.1.
It looks like now I need to research how to update via a custom rom and which rom to get. (Update. I looked into flashing a ruu and my cid is SuperCID 11111111. As long as I find a ruu that is Pyramid TMOUS, it should be good?) I am exited to be getting rid of my junky iphone. Do you have any suggestions as to what rom to get??

I would upgrade the phone to ICS via the RUU. I suggest this for 2 reasons - 1) so you can have the newest update and firmware as just flashing an ICS rom by itself will not be a good idea as you will have issues with the touch sensors and radios (touch screen won't respond and signal issues) and 2) so you can have experience on how to put the phone back to stock in case there's an issue during flashing a rom, or you need to resell it. Once you have the RUU and know it works, then flashing roms will be much less scary as there aren't many things you can do that would not be fixable by it. You can get away with just flashing the rom and the firmware as well, but I speak with many years of experience and 100s of phones under my belt, and I know that whenever I play with a new phone, I learn how to fix it first before I learn how to mod it.
As far as suggestions, I would start with something simple and solid like Android Revolution HD. See what you like and dislike and go from there.

Here is another update, and I am not sure if you can help. I thought everything was fine with the install, but it seems like my mobile network is not working. I followed all the steps from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849 except I used Clockwork Mod instead of 4EXT Touch Recovery. I looked through all the related settings and even tried changing them, rebooting and seeing if it made any changes. I also even followed the steps a second time and got the same result.

Is it just data or are you unable to make calls and texts as well? If it's just data, then most likely it is an issue with the Bell APN needing set correctly. If you don't get a signal or any connection to the cell towers, then you might not have the right firmware or radio. Did you update to the last update HTC put out for it?

:good:You are good! It was just my data that was not working, and you were right on the money. After reading your reply, I checked my APN settings and adjusted them accordingly to what my carrier states. It is working perfectly now. Thank you so very much for your help. Take care.

I have been getting around 12 hours out of my battery with not too much use on the phone. I am running the SebastionFM Kernel. I read that I will get better battery life on the Bricked Kernel. Can you tell me if that is the way to go? I am trying to dl the kernel to flash it, but I am not sure which file to download. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256668. Also, when I flash the Kernel, Is it pretty straight forward or are there settings that I would need to choose.
Thanks again.

Depends on which rom you are using... The developer of the kernel mentioned near the end of the thread that his kernels are a little outdated for the newer Sense roms that are out there, so you might need to proceed with caution. Whenever you are flashing kernels, you should both make sure you have things backed up somewhere safe (Google, your PC, etc) as well as make a nandroid backup in recovery before flashing. It's typically recommended to wipe the cache and dalvik cache before installing new kernels (since you are S-Off, S-On users need a slightly different path to upgrade...). You might look into why your battery life is not as good as it could be in it's current configuration first before changing major components such as the kernel. Look into Greenify to hibernate apps while the screen is off and something like GSam Battery Monitor or Better Battery Stats or Wakelock Detector to break down the battery stats and wakelocks as those typically cause the biggest loss of battery life.

I think it is my battery. I picked up an Anker and the phone is now at 20% after 21hrs. Is there a way to get Emoji to work on my phone? When people SMS me, on the lock screen they show up as a question mark in a box but when i go to read the text message there is nothing there.
Using a different keyboard will let you send Emojis, but not really sure about enabling the view from other people's messages off the top of my head, sorry. I recommend SwiftKey for a great keyboard replacement with lots of built in Emojis.
