HD2 T9193 Telstra starting in bootloader - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This device was purchased new aprox. 6 weeks ago.
I flashed HSPL1 and updated the radio to Leo_RADIO_2.07.50.27_2
Then flashed Energy rom of my choice. via custom ruu.
I flashed lots of roms or the course of several weeks and have lots of prior experiance with custom rom flashing on many devices so this was nothing new.
The device worked great for this long and then yesterday updated Rom to
Energy Rom July 1.
When the device was finished flashing it auto started in the Bootloader screen.
I tried redownloading the rom and reflashing. Still started in bootloader.
Tried reflashing to previous working rom but it still started in bootloader.
Next I did a task 29 "format"
downloaded an official rom. RUU_Leo_Telstra_WWE_1.72.841.0_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship
Extracted the .nbh to a freshly formated FAT32 2gig mem card and reflashed via mem card.
The screen showed the progress like normal and the flash displayed "Successful".
When I rebooted the device it once again started in Bootloader.
This time:
PB81110 HX-BC
SPL-1.66.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
so I am pretty sure that the bootloader and possibly radio and rom are correctly flashed but something is making it start in bootloader.
Any thoughts??

sticky 'down vol' button? try holding just 'vol up', , see if it starts a hard reset, , if it does then you know the vol down button was registering as pressed.

Only time I can make my phone do that is a) I've just done a task29 and there just isn't anything to load, b) I've flashed a rom incompatible with the radio currently installed or vice versa. So the flashes can be all fine but something is just stopping it at the door. Hmph, wish I had the silver bullet for ya bro. Best of luck.

it is my understanding that you are not suppose to use HPSL2 on the Telstra, you can use HSPL or HSPL3, did you mean to say you use 1 or 3?

Yes I meant to say 1.
I also tried both versions of 3.
it is back to spl now though since I flashed the offical rom. which has the radio included as indicated in forst post.
Thanks for all your good ideas I am trying them as you send them this way.
I am thinking if may be a hardware issue but am trying what I can before sending it in.

BTW the mem card I am using is SanDisk 2GB.
Does anyone think after reading previous posts that I should go out and buy a different card "just to try"?

no, you shouldnt need to use sd card at all. Ive only used sd card with this phone once, and that was just to test removing hspl 1.42 6 months ago.
You dont have hspl installed and the stock rom should flash over usb anyway. (You have tried that, right? boot to bootloader, connect usb, run the telstra .exe)

Yes it flashes normal over usb using RUU exe file. Everything looks normal until it reboots. Then it starts in Bootloader.

Have you checked if the ROMs you downloaded were complete? Are you sure they weren't corrupt? Tried flashing a generic WWE ROM? Also, flashing via USB is apparently a better flashing method than MicroSD.

I am unfamiliar with how to check if the rom download is complete. However, I tried flashing roms that were working on the device before and that i still have on my PC with the same results. I tried several custom roms and official htc rom. along with a WWE rom.
Still no Joy.

I have the Telstra version myself and I HSPL (number 1) always use the USB method and have never had any issues.
One thing I did do, I flashed an official HTC non-Telstra version first. Then I flashed just a radio. Then I flashed Miri's ROM and everything worked. I have flashed Miri's version from 1 to 17.5 all using USB
you may want to try a different PC, I have heard of people who did this and it worked for them

Tryed re-downloading the official rom from HTC and re-flashed from a different computer via usb RUU.
Flash completes perfectly fine and RUU says ready for use. The device still restarts in bootloader

Restart after flash with no card in slot has this result.
first screen is "Restore Waiting for completed" with progress bar that completes in aprox 3 sec.
the next screen is "Restore.....Completed
Press VolUp to boot
I press VolUp and the bootloader appears again Thanks for the idea.
I will keep trying to work on this untill tue which is the next time the mail runs here. Will probably have to ship it to HTC CS to get it fixed. I am thinking something is wrong in the hardware.

Could it be possible that a chef could have got the rom versions mixed up and i ended up with a tmoble rom without knowing it or is this unheard of???
What would have happened if I did flash a Tmo rom?

I use Miri's ROM and it is a Tmo version. Just make sure you have one the radios on his site, go here: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1786

still stuck in bootloader.
This is strange. Hard for me to believe I am the only one with this problem but could be possible.

I have never heard of anyone stuck on the Stock bootloader where the phone was not bad ...
but just for the sake of trying, try holding the UP and Down at the some time when powering on, I know that is supposed to only do a hard reset, but maybe it will kick it off ....
anything is worth a shot at this point ....

What SPL are you on?
SPL-1.42.0000, but I try different SPLs and HSPLs
Hmz, I havn't seen this... Does the device boot, or does it directly go to bootloader?
Normally it's stuck at the HTC boot screen, to go to bootloader I press volume key. I try different versions of roms, but no result

is this your stock rom?
have you tried downloading once more the stock rom from HTC's website based on your device's serial number? Error 18003 is most likely caused by flashing a corrupt file (either from the download or transfering/renaming the file to SDCard) ???
EDIT: are you sure you are not trying to flash a non-WWE version of the stock ROM without previously installing HSPL on your device?
Yes, I use firmware from HTC's website based on my device's serial number... When I flash custom roms or radio (roms, which image not contain EXTROM) it's flash well, but no result.
This morning I tried again to flash device and it flash well!! But it stuck at the HTC boot screen again. I used the same firmware as yesterday (RUU_Leo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.66.707.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship from official HTC's website) and used the same CD card as yesterday, but today it flashed well. I think, that it's hardware issue

maybe a bad copy/download?
Try this otherwise send it to warranty:
1) HSPL2
2) Task 29 by doonloop
3.1) Flash a stock WWE ROM (try a version 1.66) from the PC
or
3.2) Redownload your HK stock from a different source (specific thread here at XDA), rename it LEOIMG.nbh and flash it from your PC
Good luck!
Do not flash any ROM from your SD card please. Just use the recommended way - through PC.
remove sd card from your leo and try to flash rom using pc .
@mon_money..How can he flask from his pc ir phone wont boot... dont you need active sync?
I had a similar problem when i was using an incompatible radio rom for the rom i was trying to install...
copy the nbh file from the stock rom into the root of the sd. that will fix the problem..
I had a similar problem with a different ROM and I tried this suggestion provided by mskip. It does require you already have HSPL2 installed.
1. Turn your phone off and unplug it from your computer
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN then Press and hold the POWER button. After about 3 seconds the tri-coloured screen should appear with the "SERIAL" driver displayed at the bottom
3.connect it to your pc it should install drivers.the screen should now say "USB"
4.reflash with std rom/radio, known working ROM, or original OEM rom - TMOUS has a bundled 2.13 download from their website.
Good luck.

probably best you don't use the 2.13. chances are it would be fine, but this rom seems to be pretty good at updating the spl to 2.1
not a problem for tmous users who can downgrade using rom 2.10 but that only works because their phone is tmous. the OPs phone isn't.
im pretty sure it just simply wouldn't work, but whilst you are already having problems, don't run the risk.
I try all this solutions but no result

HD2 Bricked or what?

At first it was endlessly stuck on the HTC screen, then I flashed this rom using USB
http://www.vbnfiles.com/xda/xmoo/Leo/TMOUS/ 2nd one in the list. Then it was stuck on the T-Mobile Stick together, this is a test version screen. THEN I did Task 29, and now any besides that one gets stuck on 99%. Please help guys thanks!
And I can't flash through MicroSD, i only have one 2GB card and I already tried it, it wont work. And I can still go into bootloader.
What SPL is it showing in bootloader?

It was showing HSPL. I tried a 4GB and it worked! It was back to the stick together screen, and stuck there. Then I tried doing it through PC, and now Task 29 gets stuck, PC flash fails at 8%, and flashing through MicroSD says RSA Fail. The SPL is now just SPL.

Hi
Do the following or you might brick your device by using Microsd flashing.
1. Get in to the booloader
2. Run HSPL2 and select the HSPL version you like
3. when got the Hacked it message
4. Then get into bootloader again
5. Flash any custom rom
6. Again get into bootloader
7. flash one of a radio version 2.(08 or 09 or 10 or 11 or 12).50
it will do the trick. Looks like you have the wrong radio version
Good luck

[Q] Unable to flash any ROM without HSPL

Hi all
Apologies if this has been covered before but I cannot find anything thus far. I upgraded my HTC HD2 (Vodafone branded) from 1.72 to 3.1.4. As the device was branded I had to use HSPL (version 3) as Vodafone had no specific version, at that time, and thus used the generic HTC version as it was all that was available at that time. This seemed fine until I hit the, what I now know to be the memory issue, with this combination. At this point after trying a number of custom ROM's, I am using a Dutty Custom ROM (V12, COM2). I decided today, as I just discovered that Vodafone now have their own specific 3.1.4 ROM update available I would flash the 3.1.4 ROM, which I was able to download legitimately from the HTC web site, using my serial number.
I first flashed the stock ROM in the vain hope that the Vodafone had fixed the memory issue. They haven't and thus I decided to remove HSPL. I did this from the installation program and chose the 0000 option which removes HSPL. I then rather stupidly decided to run a task 29, which of course, failed at 0% and just hung totally. It did not time out after 10 minutes, at which point I had no option but to remove the battery and data cable. Fortunately the phone booted up and ran normally. I thus decided to re-flash with the legitimate Vodafone 3.1.4 ROM. as the memory issue still persisted. It failed at 0% just as with the task 29. I now cannot flash ANY Rom unless I install HSPL. I have only tried version 3 thus far.
Any ideas how I can get my phone loaded up with my genuine 3.1.4 Vodafone branded ROM without HSPL and thus avoid the memory issue and load genuine ROMS and updates please? For now I am back to using the Dutty V12, COM2 ROM. Any ideas most gratefully recieved and apologies if this has been covered before.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Paul Lemonidis.
Try flashing to HSPL 2 not 3, and read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Russ
Flash your vodafone stock ROM over SD.
And to be able to install custom ROM, use SSPL_RUU
phone into bootloader
connect usb
run hspl2
choose 1.66.0000
when phone restarts immediately re enter bootloader
run the voda 3.14 rom flash over usb
Thanks
I flashed from an SD Card and all was well. I can now reflash the same version, which I could not before, without HSPL. Thus for the moment I no longer need HSPL. Thus my warranty is valid again and I have a stable phone with the latest correct vendor ROM. I may try a custom ROM again at some point in the future if I experience problems but at least I can say I gave it a fair chance.
As a sideline, Swype works beautifully with this ROM.
Once again many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Paul Lemonidis.

Take the 1.72 ROM and use the flash from the SD Card method. This will get you back your memory.
The reason for the memory problems is a combination of 3.14 ROM and HSPL.

Help on reinstalling stock ROM

I was trying to flash the stock rom from the sd card in order to get rid of the hspl but I flashed it with the wrong rom and now my phone will not get past the 4 color screen. I tried to flash with the stock tmobile rom but I keep getting error. When I try to flash with the sd with the tmobile RUU it will say "loading..." and does nothing. I tried to run the exe file with windows and I will get errors everytime. Did I brick my phone?
I have a Tmobile US HD2 phone and without knowing better, I flashed it the first time with:

I have tried to flash again and again from the SD card and when I flash with the official Tmous ROM, it will get stuck at the installing screen and does nothing. If I try to restore with windows using the exe file, it will look like its doing something but will error out after a few minutes staying at 0%.

Good question, I have sean lot of users installing a wrong ROM, but on the correct device.
the HD2 T-Mous device isn't the same as the european device.
But I'm not sure at 100% you can save it.(lucky the new 3.14 european stock rom have the same radio if not it was total stuck.)
but now how to restore
I mean you have already try to flash (the correct on) over SD and it didn't works.
can you tell witch error you get when you was trying to flash the correct stock ROM over SD or by your PC?

When trying to flash the correct ROM over SD it will just have the plain white screen with "installing..." on the top and it does nothing. I left it alone for an hour and nothing happens.
When trying to flash with the exe on my computer, I will go through all the process and click next, next next, then it tries to update the rom (on the phone it shows the black HTC screen with the status bar) and it stays at that screen at 0% and after a few minutes it will show update failed on the pc while the phone still shows the status bar at 0%. The PC shows Error 262: update error, The rom update utility encountered communication errors during the update process.

Would it be safe to just send my device as it is now? All that it saids when I boot it up is SPL 3.03 in the bootloader screen. Would that make it out of warrantee if I flashed the wrong rom?
i think so as the hspl is off your phone. out of ideas otherwise, ya know? what can it hurt (assuming kurt, etc. don't have ideas)?
question will be if they can see the rom, etc. but even then it still is official, just not right.

Don't lose hope and be patient. There are a LOT of people much smarter than me here. It's just that they're preoccupied right now doing a much need reorganization of the XDA site. Keep reading and give the smart guys a chance to help you by continuing to post any additional info you can gleen from your phone problem.
Hmm, it isn't looking good.
If you only have flashed a wrong radio, well it wasn't so obvious for HTC to see what have caused the problem so there was 50% chance that the warranty worked. (but you may never say them that you have flashed, if not thy will suspect a wrong manipulation of the user.)
But beside that you have flashed the stock ROM form a other device. the problem is the SPL => 3.03 this isn't for your device.
SPL are like Secondary Program Loader. Think of this in the same sense as bios on a pc. (it sets where your system boots from, intialises sub system process etc)
so this is a bigger problem.
And when you will send your device to HTC repair center thy will see directly the wrong spl; so no warranty.
I'm sorry to say, but personally I don't see a solution.

RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe
What can I do now?

Very optimistic, but he have install the latest EU/Asian stock ROM on his T-Mous device.
Installing these latest stock ROM install the spl 3.03 (who isn't the same/compatible) this brakes his device.

I'm assuming that he would know to install a TMOUS stock ROM, not a foreign version. My point was that it was possible to recover by installing a stock ROM.

Well, the other thread had the OP listing the exact same message, and she had also accidentally installed the wrong SPL. I just thought it deserved a look.

[Q] Problem moving back to WinMo6.5 after Andriod

I've searched about trying to fix this on my own, but i have a feeling i may have caused more of a problem.
so trying to move back from android with a HSPL, i managed to install the original rom, but couldn't get rid of the CotullaHSPL when i flashed the new via USB.
so i looked for a Radio fix and ended up using the RUU_SIGNED.nbh radio from the same pack i used to install the rom
RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship
Radio i am on now is the SPL-3.03.000 XE.
So after i installed it it says "software update failed, please try again."
attempted to try boot and keeps saying the same thing. Went into MAGDLR to try and reinstall the same Radio again after a soft reset and it comes up with 00028002 with NOT ALLOWED underneath this error number.
i attempted to reinstall is the rom, but not it just keeps stopping and telling me i cannot.
Any help on this would be amazing, not sure whether i should try a task28/29 or whether there is a simple fix to this problem.
i didn't install the rom off the SD card, but i did install the Radio off the SD card.
it needs to go back to the original rom so i can claim warranty because of the touchscreen!
Thanks guys and i hope this was enough detail for someone to step in and help me and maybe someone else at the same time!

hspl thread, post 1, hspl can only be removed by flashing stock rom from SD card or by using the hspl.exe utility.
so i looked for a Radio fix and ended up using the RUU_SIGNED.nbh radio from the same pack i used to install the rom

that's the whole rom radio and spl, not just a radio. It will have flashed the radio when you did the USB flash.
Radio i am on now is the SPL-3.03.000 XE.

that's not a radio, that's spl 3.03.0000 which goes with 3.14 roms.
So after i installed it it says "software update failed, please try again."

the leoimg.nbh you mentioned can't be from the rom you posted. I'm gonna assume (because the outcome would be what you have now) that you flashed a stock 3.14 rom from SD, and step 1 is hspl being replaced by the stock spl for that rom, , in this case 3.03.0000,, then the phone reboots to start the flash, but because hspl has gone only the stock roms that match your phone will work, hence getting flash failed.

can't flash from magldr, I assume you mean bootloader,, coloured stripey screen.

because its the wrong rom and there's no hspl to bypass the check.

yes, get correct stock rom, flash it from SD, done.
i didn't install the rom off the SD card, but i did install the Radio off the SD card.

Correct stock rom. Must match country and provider, example mines from o2 UK, so only o2 UK stock roms can be used.
The rom you posted the name of, see it says "HTC wwe" well the HTC bit means it's unbranded, example bought from carphone warehouse. If your phone came from o2, it would say o2 wwe
Oh and forget about the radio, it comes with the rom.
Bit off topic but once I've flashed MAGDLR can I ever go back to stock WinMO 6.5. I f'ed up and didn't SIM unlock my phone before I started hacking it up ( Hard SPL & MAGDLR)
