bootloader not loading - not the typical problem - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all,
after using task29 my system is now pretty much down. it's stuck at the htc screen as described in various threads an tutorials. usually this problem could be solved by using the bootloader (pressing volume down an power) i guess.
BUT:
Bootloader is not loading at all! i tried all variations of pressing an holding the buttons. the phone just vibrates once and a black htc screen appears...thats it. hard reset by holding all 3 buttons doesn't work either.
has anybody experienced this problem and found a way to solve it?
by the way: i was running goatrip 4.9 an had severe battery drain. so i decided to do it all new from scratch by using task29....went kind of wrong
please excuse my poor english!
yours, gamble87

any ideas?

after using task 29 you have wiped youre phone so it wont boot!!!
take youre battery out put it in hold volume down and keep holding and just press the power button dont keep holding the power button just press it.
What 3 buttons to hard reset!!! maybe you should of read up a little bit more first mate

believe me i've tried that a thousand times now . holding volume down and holding/pressing power (tried both). i also tried with and without being connected via usb. even tried with leaving the battery out a whole day and then reinserting it. no success....
with all 3 buttons i meant volume down + volume up + power button. at least this is what you read in the forums and see in various tutorials on the tube to do a hard reset when you're not using the sense menu...
i've been searching this forum for about 10 hours now...everyone else is able to manage this problem by getting into the bootloader, but not me. in fact this exactly is my problem, it just won't load....maybe theres a hardware problem...volume buttons broken perhaps. i really don't know
i'm trying to describe my problem as good as i can but i fear theres only a little left from what i learned at school

thats not how you hard reset.
There is no situation where you hold power.
To hard reset
Press, hold and keep holding volume UP and volume DOWN - you may find you get a much better press by removing the battery cover.
Tap AND RELEASE power, DO NOT keep power pressed.
I will repeat the part about removing the battery cover to get a better press, and also add that pressing first one violume, then the other also helps, rather than trying to press them both together.(Its one piece of plastic is the volume rocker, it isnt really meant to be pressed at both ends) Press one end till you feel the click of the button connecting, and then press the other end, till you feel the connection, and only then TAP AND RELEASE power.

Crap, right. I missed that. Not sure what to tell you at this point aside from returning your device (if they can't get into bootloader either and cannot hard reset it, then they can't fault you for a custom rom). Just play real dumb if/when you return it.

Hmm, i think you have tried everything. Getting in the bootloader is the key. If you cant reach that spot there mate, i think your phone is dead. Try sending it to HTC for repair.

Help! Power Button Not Working

Help Guys,
My Power Button is not functioning, when its on i cant turn off the screen by pushing the power button, I have to wait until it shuts down by itself.
and when it shuts down i cant turn it on again by pushing the powr button.
my way to circumvent this is by not enabling the key lock and by pressing any the other keys when its in sleep mode.
I Tried soft reset but it hard resets even if i didnt press the power button.
Should i send it back to HK?
I have the following:
XdaII
ROM ver 1.52.00WWE
Radio Ver 1.05.14
yeah it sounds like there is something wrong with the powerbutton switch
your problem may due to power botton is hang. i used to encounter with that problems. First is due to Battpack when i use shut-down button in Battpack, it's hang. when i soft reset it turn to hard reset. For sure, you need to uninstall any programs that interfere with button mapping and try to use for a period. IF Problems still persist, you should return it to your vendor.
tumtum,
I have the exact problem, but even doing a hard reset and installing only default programs (fresh install) my power button still does not fuction.
What else can i do besides removing sofware?
Help pls.
THanks,
there should be problem with oiwer-button. Like i said earlier, it should be problem with your device. You must return your device to your vendor and check for power-button. somebody in my town has been faced with that problem and he return it to the shop. Shop said it is rpoblem with power-button.
well the thing is..
today i let my friend press the button and whala it worked!
dont know how it happend by now it works fine
thanks for the replies
looks like you'll be spending pretty much time with your friend then
Ditto...
I currently have this problem, my xda II was dropped (by a so-called friend!) it was in a metal case thank god so theres no obvious damage. later that day a program crashed... so i soft reseted it. unfortunately it didnt it HARD RESET i pondered why then tried to turn my device off! with no avail... so b4 it gets repaired (under warranty) I took the black plastic off the back to see if the button was stuck under the casing.... when i peeled it off i looked for the button... it wasnt even there! altho theres no sign of damage wat so ever (no scratches or marks) on the casing, the power button has been clearly wipe
off the circuit board!! if u shake it u can hear it rattling in the depths of the XDA and now its off it doesnt hard reset on a soft reset anymore thank god! im fed up off re-customizing the damn thing and my nearest shop 4 repairs is 8 miles away :-( (brought on the net) so all in all maybe thats the same problem a few of u are experencing Good luck C2k4...
Same problem here ...any HELP
Hi Friends,
I screwed my HTC Hermes power button while trying to fix its earlier problem.
Now to turn the backlight on ..i changed the settings and I can now use any button to bring it out of Sleep mode....
I used a program available on this site to enter bootloader.
However, the problem remains when "power button" is to be pressed.
Any advice on how to get over the "Press power button" to start the ROM flashing....

There is a sticky at the top of this forum for flashing with a broken power button if you have a Himalaya. I am not sure if the same process would work for a Hermes or not, but I would be interested to know if it does. If you power button is still intact though it may not be worth breaking it to find out!

BRICKED ( While upgrading to Hard-SPL )

Greetings mates,
Typical thread...Bricked Herms 100
But, very untypical.
I was upgrading to accomplish somesh** n prevent bricking.
Don't really know what happened.
I had sspl before as well.
Now i do not see anything.
No LED when plugged for charging
No LED when plugged via USB...
Just dumb blank screen, literally!
Any ideas n thoughts or I lost my 24days young Herms?
Anothe question I have is will HTC peeps come to know by any chance I was playing with my phone... It is not responding for power or anything basically. :/
I am newbie cooker... cooked n flashed 56.4 custom grilled rom... was struck in boot mode... thus flashed "Pays_WWE_305_Final_Full"... worked fine... booted... N then i flash Hard-SPL with 100% success but the phone is dead.
Attached is what I flashed.
Regards,
Sam

Guess i need to try Jtag... for which i need to buy a cable whic i'll do today.
But, before that let me make tea and try mtty.... who knows i might get more lucky before i buy that cabel.
Good days guys....
==========
Right, 6:48 dusk.... :S
Plan to sliip(sleep) nou(now)....
Battry in my baby and RED led wont glow.....
Battry off my baby and she again starts to glow....
In humans its the other way... lol, if you know what i mean....
good nite for me.....
You can't boot to bootloader, what about a HR?
And are you pressing the right buttons for bootloader, ok button, power button and reset with stylus. Hold in until tri-colour screen appears.
Just asking as some people try holding in the camera button instead, thats another mode that works on some Hermes but not all - I can't think what it is as I'm pretty damn tired and my brain is shutting down...
Cheers...

I'd definately try the battery before playing around with the jtag method. Be a pain to accidently stuff up everything and find out a new battery would have fixed it...
Cheers...
bad thing is that it did not fix the issue.
I checked the whole market for JTAG cabels but not avail.
Thus building one using the method I saw on a site...
The link is below... this may help other users who yapp around to find the procedure. Senior members who already experimented with this methord to confirm if this would be ok stuff... .

[Q] I think it's bricked, can someone help?

So my Prime is completely stock from an OS standpoint. Not rooted, just a handful of apps. I got the JB firmware notification this morning and I went ahead and kicked it off. Things seemed fine and the android with the blue progress bar popped up after a reboot. I left it alone and when I came back it was sitting on the ASUS boot screen. It has been on that boot screen ever since. I let it sit that way for over an hour and finally tried to power it off. I can power it off but it automatically tries to restart and gets stuck on the ASUS screen again. Tried holding the volume button down during power cycle and no luck. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Try the following and see if it helps.
Hold volume down and power button and when the text appears in top left just wait 5 seconds. When the icons appear on your screen use volume down to go to the wipe icon then press volume up.
Not guaranteeing this will work but it has for others.
If still broken come back and post.
I have a unlocked TF201 and managed to install cyanogen mod 10 on it. Then one fine day, it encountered the "turning on wifi" error, and I tried to be clever and did a format /data on CWM.
Now I have a TF201 which can enter CWM (but can't install anything because it can't read SD card) and can get into Fastboot (since it's unlocked), but can't seem to be detected when i run fastboot from my win-pc.
Can anyone help? I tried installing various of the ADB fastboot drivers, in particular the universal naked driver from another thread, but still can't seem to work!
Can help? Pls?

adb and fastboot are different things.
adb you will be able to use while in CWM and fastboot you can use while in fastboot.
You need to be able to push a rom onto your device thru adb while in cwm.
There could be a few things wrong. It could be a faulty cable or it could be that your usb ports on the computer don't like it.
Have you tried using usb ports on the back of your computer and seeing if anything shows up in device manager when you are in cwm?
If not can you try it on another computers usb ports and see if anything shows up in device manager when you are in cwm?
Please come back with a bit more information when you have tried this. Once you can see the device in device manager you should be able to install the naked drivers and I can help you from there.
edit.. can you please also tell me what happens when you just try to let it boot.. where does it get stuck, what is on the screen?

Thanks for the response. vol down and power don't do me any good. It won't let me into the stock recovery mode. I've been down that road before and entered it successfully so I'm pretty certain I'm doing it right. It just loops me back to the ASUS screen.

The only way to do it is to have it powered off. Then hold the volume down button first and while holding it start holding power button also.. Then don't let go of both buttons until it appears.

I guess I'm looking at an RMA then because it is powered off when I do the vol down + power. Still only get the splash screen. I wouldn't be upset if I was trying to load a custom ROM or something but all I did was let the blasted thing try to install the OTA. Oh well, thanks again for your time.

I think there must be some serious issues with TF201 and JB. I have got into exactly the same position by trying to use Protato's method to update to WW JB - and so have at least 3 others. But if the genuine update is doing this too!!
I'm going to request RMA. My tablet has gone to hell and this is just the seal of approval. Have a feeling I'm Infinity bound now. Good luck to all.
I am definitely going to have to RMA at this point. 3rd for me. Mine started off with the wonderful Serial Number unknown and was then suffering from pretty bad wifi/bluetooth fallout. ASUS has made good by me on both cases so far and I felt pretty good about my Prime but I must say I'm a bit disappointed that I need a 3rd RMA. I'll be happy overall if they get it back to me in good working order in a timely fashion.

Vol Down + Power not doing anything.

Hi!
I am rooted, and was running Android Revolution HD 13.
Tried to install KitKat 4.4 and the status was aborted. I saved a back up in recovery. I entered a boot loop once I restarted the phone. I thought, "No problem! I'll just get into my recovery!" But every time I hold the Vol Down + Power button, nothing happens. It simply shows, "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" and the developer disclaimer at the bottom. Any ideas?

So are you thinking theirs some other miracle answer to your question ?
it's a fact that holding down the power button plus vol down till you see the blinking lights (around 10 seconds)
then let off the volume it will shut off, just keep trying.

Boot loop issue

So, ever since i updated to a 4.4 rom ive been having some boot loop issues. In the past i just had to plug the phone in and itd boot right up. But today it seems to have gotten into a pickle.
About every 7 or so seconds it reboots itself back to the white HTC splash screen. I can get into fastboot, but after a few seconds it reboots again, and i cant get into recovery at all because its rebooting so fast.
Any ideas on how to fix it, and any ideas on how to prevent it from happening in the future

Is it possible without those few seconds to some how get it to reset.. If not there really isn't anything you can do. You'll half to take your phone for a replacement.
Only other thing your can try is to fastboot a RUU

Thanks, I didn't realize that the bootloader was rebooting as well. Sounds like he's got hardware issues.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me as well. You have a warranty? Otherwise you could try taking it apart and see if the battery has a bad connection or something. I have a feeling it's the soc or something like that though. I feel like the fact that it's happening since you updated to 4.4 is probably a coincidence.

So, i feel that it may be my power button going bad in some way. Because before it goes into the bootloop the 3 hardware buttons flash, as if the power button is being held down, and ive found that to get out of the bootloop i can just 'pump' the power button

Sorry misunderstood
Do you think, maybe, the power button is bad. I've seen a few reports of this.
Sounds to me like it's stuck, pressed. That would cause the repeated reboots, lights flashing, etc.
Edit-- I see you already suspect this is the problem. Never mind...
Well, i flashed back to a 4.3 sense rom yesterday and havent experienced the bootlooping issues since. For reference, before i switched back it got to the point that it was doing it twice an hour
So hopefully it is a software issue and not a hardware issue(knock on wood), id rather not go through the hassle of paying my deductible and getting a new phone
