Drop it on a rocky driveway , and by "accident" back over it with your car/truck , but be sure to pull the car/truck forward and back , just to make sure you actually ran over something by "Accident" ...
haha that worked it got tore up. i slanted it up on the tire and it just snapped. thats dude.
This is mad lol, was there no way of getting it into the bootloader screen!?!
nope,, it wouldnt do ****. i just recieved my brand new hd2 in the mail today... pretty surprised the deductable was 130...
Personally I think pictures are in order!
umm, you could have just returned it, lots of people have, it wont power on, right? so they cant see bootloader, so tehy cant see hspl, so they wont complain. Now, however, its an insurance claim rather han a warranty replace, they'l probably want an excess,
Yea if you really broke it your not too bright. You could have made some cash off some sucker or selling it for parts. Also: Pics or it didn't happen.
i hope you get caught for insurance fraud
I hope you don't get caught for insurance fraud and enjoy your new HD2.... If Windows and HTC would of created this phone with the RIGHT software you wouldn't have to be risking bricking it in order to make it work right... SO BLAME THEM!!!

i posted this in another thread, but its already on page 2 of that forum so id rather get my answer here.
Specs
-i have a vibrant for tmobile.
-rooted.
-phone has to be 2 months old, hardly used. still had stickers on camera.
my questions
-if i use the unroot technique posted earlier, will i have any problems with tmobile and unroot? show any signs?
-does any one have tmobile thats done an exchange under warranty with a rooted/unrooted vibrant??
-i have a dent on the chrome frame around the screen, nothing else...will this effect the warranty?
that dent pissed me off, ive been USING the phone for like 5 days? i havent been on this forum long.
so i wanna use a warranty exchange, say my mms or something is acting silly, and get a new one.
let me know.
Bizumppppp
Bizumppppppppppppppp
lack of response probably is due to having not a F'ing clue what you are asking.
whats wrong with your phone?
why can't you unroot it? Use OCLF in the market if you are having issues.
why would use of the phone (dent) hender warranty for a valid claim... assuming you have one?
If I unroot it, will tmobile accept it and not be voided???
Im asking because my dent is pissing me off and I wanna send it in to tomobile w a lame excuse that my mms is messed up
In one sentence, if I unroot my vibrant, will tmobile void my warranty?
So you dented your phone and are going to report a fake issue in order to get a phone without the dent you put there.
Okay....
Perhaps you should have a real issue so when they get your phone they dont charge you for the one they sent you.
PS, I am not going to help you fraud samsung/tmobile, maybe others will.
Buy a phone case. That should fix it.
If you are going to scam them, then nobody here can change your mind. Same goes for people who brick their phone, and do a warranty exchange. In the long run, it hurts everyone, causes prices to go up, and causes more stringent return policies.
If you go through with your scam, why don't you spend 16 bucks on a t-mobile silicon case for the replacement vibrant, so next time you don't dent your phone.
bye
ps... to answer your question, I think using ODIN with the 512 pit and tar should get you back to stock. Not sure though if they can tell you rooted before, ask someone else.
Would using odin put him back to stock, or would they still know he rooted before?
Unrooting your phone will keep your warranty intact, but that dent (depending how big it is) is not covered with warranty because its physical damage. When they receive your phone they inspect it and you can get charged an out of warranty fee which is near $250-300ish for a vibrant. T-Mobile will not let you dispute this charge either because all the phones are individually inspected.
Also, claiming an issue with the mms is not the best reason for a warranty exchange because mms issues are network related 9 times out of 10.

Im not trying to scam them.
Whatsoever wrong w having a new phone w a dent on it, and just trying to get it replaced???
When I had a blackberry. I told tmobile some issues I had w the phone and thhey had no problem sending me a refurbished phone.
Now, when I try and do the same w the vibrant, im wrong????
Come on now, if u guys dont take advantage of that luxaryy, ESPECIALLY a 500$$ piece of equipment, then ima say ur wrong
I paid good money to get a phone that gets dented in my pocket???
No thank you.
Not to be rude an all, but all I had to do was ignore or answer me.

I would say that returning a phone that works fine because of a dent is wasteful. Buy a case from amazon for a couple of bucks and it'll cover the dent just fine. And if dents and scratches are going to bother you that much then take better care of it.

Sounds like you dented it and want another. Ok Capt. Entitlement.
How about treating your things better or taking some responsibility when you don't. I'm well aware it's a $500 piece of equipment and I treat it as such.
When you're old enough to buy a car are you going to take it back to the dealer when you dent it? They'll laugh in your face.

Root/unroot to exchange phone with tmobile
Just do it and see what happens. Let us know. I had a problem with a phone that the USB plugged in kept intermittently come on. Not good called TMobile has a new phone in three days. But i had a legitimation problem not a scratch or bump.. I don't think TMobile will exchange. Unroot phone then go in sd and delete update or anything that shows Young tried to put a rom on phone. Mer I'de get a cover.
i got my casemate case.
but the day i ordered it, is the day i dented it.
OF COURSE ima get pissed.
like i said, i did it like 5 times with a blackberry curve. not once did they hassle me.
so i dont see why it would be a problem with a phone thats less than a year old.
So yesterday I tried to use the Juopunutbear S-OFF method, I was super excited to get an s-off method that would not have to brick my phone. It made it even better that I had the live cd burned to my usb ready too go. So i got as far as the wire trick and I even got the screen with Juopunutbear loading on my phone, all the sudden it went black. An I ****ing knew it instantly. I pressed the power button--nothing at all. I must say these last two days without my evo have been so ****ty probably the ****tiest days Ive had since I got the evo 3d last year. But I sent an email to RMA, basically saying that I accepted an OTA and my phone became response less. The worst part is Ive adapted my life to XDA its just something that I do everyday without even thinking about it. And I am still going on when ever I get the chance or I am bored. Anyone have any tips? Experiences? Thoughts on how HTC RMA will respond?

Do this in order:
1. Get a spare sprint phone
2. Change your ESN to that phone
3. After a day or two go back to the 3D and add insurance (you can always add insurance for up to 30 days on any device you activate)
4. Go into sprint get a new phone
5. ?????
6. Proceed to make a 'OMGGGMG GOT A NEW PHONE FROM SPRINT!!!111!1" thread in general or the Q&A

Guys I have to close this thread and here's why.
It's been stated many times that rooting your phone voids the warrenty. You knowingly voided the warranty(as we all did), but the discussion has become how and what to do in order to rip off the insurance company to give you a new one after you voided the warranty and forgo your right to use the insurance or the right to get a warranty replacement through Sprint or HTC. That I cannot allow to take place. I hope you can understand, but leaving this open says that xda condones your actions, and I don't believe that's acceptable.
On a side note. That really sucks and I hope you can get your phone fixed, I couldn't imagine life without mine.
Hi, uh I started another thread on making sure things got backed up. Which I did properly and everything was good. So today I haven't done anythign and was waiting for the new slim rom to make it's debute hopefully this week sometime as that is the one that appeals to me the most. Anyways, today my phone just got super hot, far hotter than before and it decided to die on me...I think. it shut off and I haven't been able to turn it on. Could this be a side effect of installing twrp/unlocking the bootloader/rooting? Or would it be a defective unit? One concern I had was getting a defective unit so i waited out my 30 days before even considering doing all this. So yea my 30 days from att is up. Would there possibly be a way to get a new phone from att or does anyone have any tricks on getting it back online? I personally think it was an overheating issue, but my phone is now cooled down.
So i went to the att store and of course they won't do anything. They told me to call some number they gave me. If I return it will they know it was boot unlocked and rooted? I can't turn it on at all. Using a power source or connecting to my computer nor my car charger...

Ok, so, im not sure if by return you mean, return for an exchange or simply a return as ATT will probably only send you a reman unit for yours and not allow an actual return. If you havent called them yet, i would recommend it. I have dealt with them many times in the past and one thing that has always shocked me is that they never have asked me about, or even commented on, how rooting or unlocking prevents them from exchanging it. Even during the disclaimer, they have never once said that if the device has been modified they wont allow the exchange.
I say all of this because should they not mention anything like that, and you send it back, im fairly sure you can claim you didnt know and werent told, and they will take care of it. Also, i say this because i personally sent back 3 bricked GS2s and an lg nitro as defective and got my reman units and every single one of them were rooted and such. So, i would feel safe. As long as they dont ask, and you dont lie to them, then there shouldnt be an issue. I wouldnt lie to them, i just dont mention it. AGAIN DO NOT lie to them or attempt to decieve them, i would never encourage that, but if its something they dont ask about, then, it, in my opinion, is not something that they are too concerned with.

Okay, thanks for the response. Sorry I was in a bit of a panic when I wrote that. But I have called ATT and they didn't ask me or mention in any disclaimer that if it's rooted or unlocked it won't qualify. I didn't mention it and so that does make me feel a lot better. Hasn't been physically damaged or come in contact with water so i'm pretty sure I'm safe. Thanks again.

They may or may not check when you return the phone. I returned my S3 a few months ago in exchange for a different phone but I forgot to unroot it and uninstall Superuser. The representative at AT&T didn't even turn the phone on. I didn't have anything to hide though, if they told me I couldn't return it because it was rooted then I would have sold it and purchased something else. I think the manufacturer is the one to worry about with these things. LG would definitely know if it were unlocked and they would be able to determine if rooting and unlocking the phone caused the problems you described.

Well if they can turn it on I will gladly take it back due to them not accepting. I couldn't turn it on by anymeans, even plugging it in there is no lights to signifying it is receiving power. But i heard this phone had overheating issues in the first wave (or two) so it's probably for the best to get a new one. They are currently mailing me a new one and so I should receive it next week sometime hopefully.

im in the same boat as you... completely dead phone. But I did open it to see of the battery pull would work. Do you think that theyll check and refuse my warranty because I opened it? the phone on the outside is NEW. Btw do you have a contract/account with ATT? I bought mine off ebay and used it on tmo...
I have the exact same problem! Totally dead phone that the charging light won't even turn on for. Unfortunately there is a small crack in the bottom left of the phone that was caused months prior so ATT wont give me a new one...
send it for repairs! I had rooted and unlocked mine so ATT didnt cover my warranty, but I only paid 50 bucks for the repairs and now I have my phone back!
So i broke the screen on my s4 today, i guess having it your back pocket and sitting down is a bad idea. Going to claim insurance on it will they care if it is rooted? i have insurance through protect cell if that helps. if i need to unroot how do i do so?

If the screen is so trashed you can't do anything, Odin flash the stock no root image in download mode. I've accidentally sent in a rooted devicefor replacement (Bionic), and they didn't say anything. But best to be careful.

We make fun of him all the time. He also keeps nothing in his front pockets so I don't understand how he even got in the habit of doing it.
Hi,
Yesterday, all of a sudden my S2 crashed for no reason and I haven't been able to boot it ever since. First, I put out the battery, put it back in and everything seemed to be ok, but when the screen with the Samsung logo came on nothing happened. I tried this a few times, still the same. So I started to search on the internet for soluitons and found out about the 'recovery mode'. I got it into recovery mode and chose 'reboot', and after that my phone totally stopped working...
Now it won't even turn on or anything, when the phone is on the charger there's no sign that it's charging. I've tried another battery but it stays the same. I've got the phone for 2.5 years and never had any problems with it and never rooted or flashed it.
I've searched this forum a bit and I saw some quite simular problems, but because at first I got into download mode I thouigt my case is a bit different. So, is there anything else I can do to help fix this?

Thanks so far, but can someone tell me how it's possible that these devices just stop working? Never had any problems with it at all.
You guys think an USB jig etc. won't work? I've recently saved all photos/videos.. But I didn't save agenda items/contacts and such, because there was no reason to believe that the phone would crash in near future.
Seriously ? Electronics of all kinds (phones, PC's, whatever) die without warning for all kinds of warnings. Not like electronic components can give you some pop up warning saying 'Oh yeah, BTW, I'm about to bite the dust, you better back your **** up'.
A jig is unlikely to work, but eh, maybe you'll be the 1 in 10,000 cases like this where it will work. So you definitely try one if you can get one.
Saying 'But I didn't save agenda items/contacts and such, because there was no reason to believe that the phone would crash in near future' is beyond ridiculous. If you've got stuff that's really important to you & the loss of that stuff is going to cause you angst, you're a fool if you're not backing it up regularly. Even on a completely stock phone this is a cinch to do (Kies).

I mean take a look at that link.. people who have dead s2's without even water damage have able to boot up the phone by removing that capacitor...

No idea, never tried it (and wouldn't). I'd bite the bullet & pay someone to fix my phone properly or buy another one, and I'd also have all my stuff backed up so I can restore it when I get my phone fixed/to my new phone.
Edit - I'm perfectly calm. I refuse to show any empathy/sympathy to stupid people who don't back important data up & then cry when that data is lost.

you can try that..if you have finally decided to replace your motherboard at all...
may be it could...
have you gone to the local mobile repair shop ? what they said ??
I'd rather try everything not to have to replace the motherboard. Cause like I said earlier: If there's any possibility to save the phone like it was when it crashed, so with messages/settings/apps etc. it's better offcourse... Or is it when I remove/replace this capacitor all will be lost also?
I'm going to visit the local store this afternoon to see what they have to say about it... But there's no warranty on this phone anymore so I guess fixing will be (too) expensive.

First went to local mobile phone store, only thing they did was putting the phone on a charger and say: Can't be fixed. Then I went to the repair store and they said that only looking at it what the problem could be would cost €30,-, and they couldn't guarantee that the problem would be solved then so...?

This friday I will visit a repair store in another town.. See what they have to say about it.
Just for the record: If the USB Jig method works, do I lose my data after all?
I got a USB-Jig and tried to get the phone into download mode, but it didn't work. Are there any other solutions left?
Eh no.
