Anyone have this issue with some Apps and games not looking right on the streak's screen? One example is the game traffic jam. The cars aren't properly centered, also the game moron test. And also a weather radar app. There's a couple more and they all work perfectly fine on my girlfriends evo, but not on my steak. They have the same resolution, guess the dpi is different?

Yeah, I've experience this with quite a few games and apps. Especially with Blow Up which is annoying as its an awesome game, but I can only complete half the levels as the levels I can't do are the ones with explosive barrels on the right which for some reason have shifted into the middle of the screen thus overlapping the area you need to blow up, so as soon as you trigger an explosion, the planks of wood always shift and the barrels explode instantly I couldn't understand why it was like this as like you say, the other phones have the same resolution, but I never considered the dpi!
Blow up works fine on my Streak, stock 1.6.
Here's what the look like, gonna email the developers from whenever I run into this problem.

All 80 levels? e.g. level 12 is the first level that I can't do because the barrels on the right overlap the building. I'm running stock 1.6 too
Another game is Abduction, the background fills the screen but the platforms only appear in the top left had corner of the screen roughly the size of a normal screen, just like the Traffic Jam pic above!

Same here, I reached that level and couldn't find anyway to reduce the building with the barrels integrated in that manner; I just thought it was incredibly difficult, and not insoluble due to DPI shift!
i was thinking about it and pretty sure its the DPI. Since these apps and games work on other devices with the same resolution, the streak takes advantage of the big screen by actually using the size rather than just stretching to fit the screen. So its kind of good and bad at the same time. Good because its utilizing its screen real estate, and bad cuz of these issues we're facing :/

I saw an app in the Market "LCD Density Changer" that lets you adjust the DPI of your device. It required root to use, and wasn't free but maybe it would help?
Dell has definitely changed the Streak's DPI as you can see when you compare say how many Market apps are shown in a list view on a Streak vs. say a Droid X. They're both 480x800 screens but the streak shows about 30% more info (apps) per screen, I'd guess some game/app developers don't expect an/or compensate for this possibility.

Just to confirm, I'm using the lite version and have just completed level 12, the barrels don't come anywhere near the building on my screen.

How very odd, my abduction is the other way round.
I have the background only filling say a Nexus size screen but the platforms fill the screen, it's uber easy now!
Ok guys, after further inspection I realized the dpi is NOT the issue. The problem lays with the aspect ratio. The streak is MDPI 160 but the aspect ratio is "long" (think of it as a widescreen tv) as opposed to "not long" (4:3 tv)
See http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html#qualifiers
And a short explanation at http://android.amberfrog.com/?p=478
If you run into this issue I suggest you email the developer. I have emailed about 5 so far, one replied and said they can't fix the issue unless I buy them a streak! Haha I told him he could keep his $0.99 app and my 1 star review instead.

Has anyone noticed the calculator on this phone. Where is quality control by HTC?
Most software developers would not of let this screw up get pass their quality control screeners! Also, I noticedthe default font resolution for the phone is small compared the the evo 4g. I wonder what else was over looked by HTC! Pretty shady for a large cell phone manufacturing company to let this get pass them! Microsoft or Apple wouldn't of released this mistake.
Whats wrong with the calculator? I dont see anything screwed up
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Do you mean to imply that an inconsequential, basic, simple app like the calculator and a smaller font size means that HTC has poor quality control?
HAHAHA
1. I can see where you would think the calculator is "messed up" ...but it isn't. Have the numbers aligned to the absolute bottom right corner of each box was a design choice by HTC, not some sort of screw up.
2. Also, with the default font resolution: Of course it is going to be smaller. The screen is roughly the same size with a MUCH higher resolution. Example: You can have a 21" monitor and in 800x600 resolution, the text is going to be huge and blocky...however, if you switch the resolution to the much higher 1920x1080, the text will be much smaller and much more crisp.
...In short, neither of the things you mentioned are any sort of "screw up" or "quality control issue"
Have you considered that the font is small because this Is a really high resolution screen? So everything is really clear anyways.

Of course it CAN'T be that..CLEARLY HTC didn't actually use the app on the phone so they never noticed they sized the numbers incorrectly THey just whipped the phone up real quick and shipped it out. Didn't bother with pesky things like testing
Where are people finding these "small font" text areas? Everything seems generously sized to me???

So your telling me if the screen breaks, Just replace with an iPad screen+digitizer? Or am I clutching at parts?
if the screen is similar to the ipad, why does it seem so low quality?
I was on my new one all night, and I cant get over the poor quality of display.
I was just browsing, blogging and it just looks so bad compared to my work ipad or the playbook I'm currently demo'ing.
could it be the browser, websites, or is there a patch I need? Really making me question my purchase.
I think people are confusing DPI with PPI. PPI is pixels per inch, which is the 131 being tossed out. DPI is how the screen is seen by software. Dont know what it is for the touchpad, but figured I'd try and clear some confusion.

No, if you put the TP side by side with the iPad 2 (hell, with the original iPad), you can notice a BIG difference in the display quality. I think that is the way the software handles the screen. Colors do look WAY sharper and crisper on the ipad vs the TP.
Its the exact same lg screen from the ipad 2, hell you could take the ipad 2 screen out and put it in the touchpad.. android port may fix it if not we'll see some voodoo colors.

I did some lookin:
TP and iPad 1 use LP097X02-SLA1
iPad 2 uses LP097X02-SLN1
Don't know what the differences are. I don't know why the touchpad screen isn't as bright as the ipad either. (Perhaps the touchpad software simply doesn't allow it to go that high? Perhaps in that case, an android release could? Though I've heard many complain that the ipad is blindingly bright.)
Interestingly enough, samsung is coming out with a 10.1" retina touch display. Will apple get their hands on it? Probably not, actually:
http://www.tipb.com/2011/05/13/sams...olution-display-paving-retina-display-ipad-3/
I think there must be differences between displays. I've found mine to be very bright. I leave the brightness slider around 30% and find that's very bright, even a bit too bright when using in a darkened room.
I find the colours aren't particularly vibrant in general use, but the they are in the Angry Birds loading screen, so I'd guess that there's some kind of tone down colour profile set in the OS somewhere.

not exactly I'd think. While they use the same screen, they don't use the same bezel dimensions IIRC. Bezel is part of the screen, so buying the slightly different iPad one wouldn't work I don't think.

I purchased the Photon on release day and have had no problems with it (shutoffs, reboots, screen of death, etc.). I came from an Iphone 4 on AT&T because I wanted unlimited data. My only gripe is what appears to be touchscreen sensitivity/preciseness.
When I look at my Photon with the screen turned off in the sunlight at an angle, I can see a grid of boxes that appears to be the touchsensing grid. When I look at an Iphone the same way, I can see a similar type of grid.
The difference in the grids is substantial, the Photon grid boxes are significantly larger than those on the Iphone.
I've noticed that in general, the Photon has worse touch sensitivity than the Iphone 4 did. Making exact screen presses on website links, for example, is simply not as fluid or precise. Not even the unlock keypad works as well.
I haven't had an opportunity to look at the Epic Touch (GS2), I'm wondering what the grid is like on this phone?
Anybody else here notice a lack of preciseness with the Photon touchscreen? Is it an Android issue or a hardware issue?
The grids are becuase the screen has an arrangement of pixels and subpixels called PenTile Matrix, which makes it appear as if it had more resolution than it actually does.
That does not affect, however, the touchscreen quality. The SGS2 does not have the square thingy.
You have too much time on your hands.

No, I am familiar with the pentile nature of the screen.
l am referring directly to the capacitive matrix grid above the lcd used to sense finger presses. The grid squares are very large in comparison to the iPhone. That makes me wonder if the touchscreen is less accurate. Look at both phones with the screen at an angle in direct sunlight. Each has a grid.
I would definitely agree its not at fluid as other phones I've used but damn can it be touchy. Scrolling down a webpage always seems to end up in a unintended click for me.
Yeah mine can be touchy as well. Mostly with the xda app

How many of you have you experienced ghosting on Titan's screen?
And how do you define "ghosting"?
This is the only thing that bothers me before getting a Titan.
Thank you.
I just ordered my titan, so I can't say for sure, but I pretty sure ghosting stopped being a problem in early 2010, and I have never seen any portable display with ghosting issues. It will happen if the device is too cold, as the pixels start freezing... But what makes you think this would be a problem?
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Ghosting is what happens when you have slow pixel response time and colors are most notably slow to change. The effect is that animations will leave a ghostly trail behind them as they go, usually lasting a second or two.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
These are some of the comments in wpcentral review of the Titan:
But the HTC Titan... Big but felt nice and balanced. Camera was nice including the quality of the FF camera. What I noticed was huge amounts of ghosting. George Ponder says there isnt any ghosting like the other HTC devices but that is the first thing I noticed on the Titan was the ghosting. I didnt even know that was an issue and this review was not out when I looked at the Titan about four days ago.
- When scrolling on the homescreen the letters are a blur.
- Web browsing was not very appealing because whether scrolling on full screen or zoomed in scrolling, the blurring effect was such a turn off I stopped demoing the phone, but not before going to the same websites on my phone, the Titan and the Focus S. The Titan was the only one with the ghosting effect.

Hey George, Thanks for replying to my comment I made. I went to another ATT store that had the S and Titan on display. (The phones did not have the demo software on them and the salesman didnt even know they had the phones, typical, but I digress). I dont know if it is really called ghosting but if you have the Titan available go to a site on two different WPhones. I tested gamespot.com. Slightly zoom in and scroll up or down. The words turn into a blur while moving. This blurring effect does not occur on my focus or really on the S either. Perhaps Im just fixated on it but Im sure Im not the only one, lol.

You can check the review here (the review itself says there is no ghosting):
http://www.wpcentral.com/att-htc-titan-review
I am a bit confused. Is there ghosting on the Titan or not?
I don't see it on mine, scrolling through the apps list.
I'm still waiting for my Titan in the mail but I did notice some ghosting on the one I played with at the store. I'm hoping it's not too noticeable on the device I receive. The ghosting on the Focus S is much worse though and the main reason I returned it.
My question is: Who cares about ghosting on a cellphone? It's not that big deal when the screen is 4.7" Maybe on a tv with 40" or more it would be a problem..

Very rarely do I notice some minor ghosting on the Titan's sreen. I have to say that its much much better than it was on the HD7/HD7S.
Now I never found ghosting very annoying, but I see how it can be.

Is that when you scroll extremely fast?
I think I've seen that on various devices including the recent ones from Nokia as well as Samsung Nexus!
If you push the scroll extremely fast that where the S-LCD/LCD coughs up! But on normal day to day scrolling you won't notice it as such.
However weirdly enough, I only see this for milli-seconds and on abnormally quick scrolling. Normal day to day use don't show it on my Titan. Unless someone wants to make a video and show me what am I missing!
I can agree to the term that the Titan is ghosting when scrolling in the menu.. U see it especially on the text under the tiles in the full app list.. Black and white background doesn't make a difference either for me.. I think the ghosting is the same on both.. BUT for ME it doesn't make a point, because ghosting isn't that bad to watch when it's on a small screen.. My eyes don't get tired from it either, because you don't scroll the screen up and down for several hours.. Can't see why this should be such a big deal either..
I've been playing with my titan and I really cannot see any ghosting at all.
Go to a text app like twitter, or even the app list. Scroll at normal speed and look at the text.

Anyone try this on the ol' TF300T yet? I have. It seems the graphics are stuck at a low resolution setting, despite all the graphic levels being available to be chosen in the menu.
I have, but I suggests leaving it at low or really low. It really lags and get hiccups on high settings, even with medium settings that come default in the game

I've tested it on Me301t with same hardware, first you can not download it from google play so you have to get it from gameloft shop , after that you find the game to be nearly unplayable ! framerate in some places drops even below 5fps , in other places it is around 15-20fps, i don't understand why same resolution and same hardware as nexus 7 we barely get anything near experience of playing Asphalt 8 in nexus 7 (tegra 3).

I emailed Gameloft about it. After some back and forth, they told me "This means that your device doesn't support higher graphics." I replied to this reaming them on the Tegra 3's capabilities and how other software with more impressive graphics runs just fine on this hardware. Hopefully, there will be a fix down the road. In the mean time, if you bought the game, complain to Gameloft. They won't know there's a problem unless we tell them.

That's actually strange. I just installed that latest nightly and tried it. The game looked like it should. I made no modifications to the settings of the ROM, just enough to install Titanium Backup and restore Asphalt 8. The only thing I've noticed different is that the nav bar was on the screen. Normally, I run without it, instead using PIE. The nav bar was always present when the game was running. I'm going to restore my PAC-Man rom and turn the nav bar back on to see if the problem is linked to the available screen space.
*EDIT: Yup. It's screen space-related. Seems that the game can't render to an actual 1280x800 space. It was made to fit within the space not including the nav bar.

I figured out the cause of the issue. I don't have the status or nav bars visible on the screen (I use PIE and Halo). That leaves a full 1280x800 of screen to render to. The game is written for stock Android configurations, where there is a persistent nav bar and/or status bar, which leaves about 1280x752 or something lower than 800. The game will attempt to render to the full 1280x800 space with graphics made for the slightly lower resolution, then is stretched to fit the full space.
The only way to correct it is to turn the bar(s) back on.
How to always show the Nav Bar?
If the problem is sorted out because of the resolution change after the autohide of the Nav Bar, so how can we disable the autohide feature?
I tried to add to the Build.prop: qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 and the nav bar still autohides
Ok well I have the brand new samsung s9 plus and it will not let me play on high settings even though my phone has the best graphics on market.
