Removing Clockworkrecovery - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Seeing how the owners of Incredible facing issues upgrading to Froyo if they use Clockworkrecovery on a rooted phone, I am wondering if we might hit the same issues when the OTA upgrade comes. So when the time comes I'd like to bring the phone back to as close to stock as possible without flashing the original 2.1 via ODIN.
So how does one remove the CWR?
Is it just simple uninstall of the ROM manager and removing /sdcard/clockworkrecovery directory?

Usually the same day as a OTA we will get a .zip that we can flash if you want to have the stock ota update. If not that day then within the week.

HELP ME! PLEASE! Urgent!

Okay, I just rooted my brother's HTC Hero (GSM Unlock) and updated it to 2.1 Villain, but there were some bugs, like in the messages app, the key board wouldn't show up in a conversation. FB Sync wouldn't sync pictures to his contacts. Is there any way I can downgrade back to the original 1.5? If so, can anyone give me a link to download that .zip? thanks!
*note* I tried flashing the official 2.1 update, it failed
And what is a Nandroid backup? Can I restore it with that?

You really should have read up before just rooting and flashing. A nandroid backup is a backup of the phone so you can restore to how it was before you started to play with it.
You can download the rom you require here.
You should have done a Nandroid backup before trying to flash a new ROM, this is a MUST DO everytime you plan on messing around with the phone, it would simply let you restore the backup back to normal.
You need to do a full wipe of the phone and flash the new ROM posted above.
Jamie.
Can I just flash a stock rom of the HTC Hero generic? I flashed a rooted one, but I keep getting this notification about an OTA,I tried installing it, but it fails. If I flash a stock rom (if possible) can I install the OTA's?
I seem to be having somewhat the same problem.
Although I didnt flash my hero to that custom rom you're mentioning.
The problem is that I've been running the modaco 3.0 rom for quite a while and wanted to get the stock 2.1 rom.
I've tried to flash it using the HTC tool but couldn't be done. I accidently overrided my nandroid backup of the stock 1.5 rom so I found a stock 1.5 on modaco's forum and flashed it.
Now I'm running 1.5, build 2.73.405.5
Every time I wipe the phone and start from scratch (setting up the phone as if it was new) I get a notification about a new OTA update. When I try to update it, the phone resets (seems fine) and it ends up in Nandroid and doesn't get any further.
Then I chose to reboot the phone and the phone runs as normal but still no new firmware.
What am I doing wrong?
I've also tried the HTC tool for flashing the ROM but end up with a connection error (170).
I have of course wiped the phone but it doesn't help...

I have the same problem! And when I do flash 2.1, the keyboard never appears when I go to the messages app. I just flashed an official stock 2.73.405.66 build, what if I do the OTA? Will it fail too? 'Cause I think it fails because last time, my phone was rooted.
Anyone got help? :-/

WiFi Help

So I was using the BeastMod ROM for a while and decided to go back and do a recovery and use the stock ROM for a while. I got everything all going back to normal with the stock ROM and got a notification about the T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling update that was available. I downloaded the update and then proceeded to install the update. When the phone reboots it pops to the Android and Triangle screen and does nothing.
Any ideas what to do to get this installed?

You have the stock recovery installed?
You'll probably lose root by installing this update. Just so you know.
I installed the stock recovery, went through the set up of the phone like it was brand new and got a prompt to download. Downloaded, and went through install only to come up with the triangle screen upon reboot of phone. I have to pull battery and restart phone.
I realize that it is possible that losing Root is there. I am just having issues with the operation of the phone and want to run stock. I don't mind sense, my only complaint and only initial want for a new ROM was to get rid of the bloatware.
I have not followed up with the ROM and their development in the last two months or so, so do not where there are and the stability of them. I want something that isn't going to take me all day to install on my phone by trying to figure out how to install it and flashing of kernals and other things. I'd prefer to be able to download to and SD card and install the zip through recovery and that be it. Not sure if that is possible.

After you flashed CWM recovery, you are very much can flash Rom and theme from recovery by downloading onto your sdcard - as you so wished - with the exception of Faux's kernal
'Til now, we only have 2 kernel: Stock and Faux's and very much all the Roms are based on stock kernel, so, if you referred to avoid the hassle of using your PC - then stay with stock. You'll only need to flash it once and after that, either upgrading or changing a new rom (stock kernel based) you won't have to flash it again .
Exceptions are:
Beside one or two Roms that featured Faux's kernel (can't recalled exactly but very few - read the first post of your would-be Rom), other than that you will have to pay attention to Xboarder latest Rom - the BulletProof. It's latest version (2.2.0) feature Faux's kernel whereas older version based on stock, so, if you flash older BulletProof Version (2.1.0 and backward) you are worry-free to switches from many Roms without being near your PC to flashing kernel.
I'm strongly encouraged you to go ahead and try some Rom, they are very stable and fast. Battery hog is the thing of the past IMHO

Help i messed something up

ok so i wouldnt say im a noob but im not as advanced as some of yous. last night i flashed a leaked ics onto my phone and loved it with one exception. i couldnt figure out how to root it. all my apps are backed up on titanium backup and i didnt want to have to get all of them manually. so i flashed back to stock using odin with a file i used back when that crappy update came out. i rooted it with super one click and and then went to put on a prerooted ics... when in recovery mode now i get this message
cant access to '/system/csc/att/system/'
i try putting on cwm and siyah and i keep getting authentication errors and the installation aborts. also recovery mode wont read my external sd card now. when the phone is booted up it works fine except i tried to do the factory ota update and it keeps failing. i tried reflashing back to stock again and did the update unrooted and it still failed.
i know you guys hate hate when people ask without researching so i did SOME forum browsing and found nothing. sorry i dont really have time to look too extensively. i just want to know how to fix it. i appreciate any help i can get

Start with getting back to stock using this guide. Check for ICS bootloaders too, you probably flashed them and you have to get stock ones back (careful, flashing bootloaders can cause hardbricking). Once you're back to stock and rooted, you shouldn't need to ever use PC Odin again.
Then use this guide for rooting/flashing.
One other note: when you tried to install CWM, it sounds like you loaded an update.zip onto your phone then tried to install it using stock recovery. Stock recovery won't let you install unsigned update.zips, which is why that method for getting CWM on your phone will never work (hence the authentication error and installation abort). For our phone, CWM is only included in custom kernels, that's the only way to get it on there, and don't even think about updating or changing it via other means. Just flash a custom kernel, it'll include CWM, use it until you want to switch kernels.
Hit my thanks button, I was really nice this time. And post in Q/A next time as well.
EDIT: Skip the second guide if all you want is stock. You should be able to update OTA after following the first guide. Though even if stock is what you want, I highly recommend flashing a custom GB kernel because a) they're more stable and faster and b) you'll have CWM in case you need it.
You started off mentioning about "leak ics" which I have absolutely zero experience.
My suggestion:
1. Try to get it back to stock. Make sure it works correctly.
2. If hasn't rooted yet, do so.
3. Getting CMW into the device by flashing custom kernel.
4. From there, install any ICS ROM you want.

based on my past experience, simply reinstalling apps and removing root does not work. I have always had to use RSD lite and re-flash the phone with stock software to update, then re-root and debloat again.

tried to find rsd lite in the play store.couldnt..googled it and came up with this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348587
^^is this what you were talking about
and what would be the best way to find stock software..just do the same and google it.or is there a option when i fastboot or something where i can delete my root.rom.and everything back to stock in one faital swoop?
Or you could try using this: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...xt912-jellybean-windows-mac-linux-all-in-one/
