[Q] Flashing ROMs - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got the 3500 mAh battery for my eris and have it pretty much perfectly conditioned and have never flashed without having the battery at 100% because I have heard it can mess with the battery stats or something like that if you flash while not on 100%, but I still have my old battery, could I pop that in, while its not on 100%, flash the rom, and then switch to the new battery. Or would that mess with the phone?

Are you being serious? Btw, this is not development related, it belongs in q&a.

Whoops sorry, I honestly just accidently posted that in the wrong section.

And yes I'm being serious, sorry for asking a question not up to your intelligence level?

i've flashed with battery as low as 35% (but i don't recommend... just to cma).
in any case... flash it however you want i think the "official" answer is 85% is what verizon recommends before doing an OTA.
in any case... you're good to go!

You shouldn't dis on someone's intelligence and at the same time put a question mark at the end of a statement.

You shouldn't be a douchebag to people less knowledgeable about things like this. But thank you very much Tenzo for not being a douchebag and giving me a good answer

Sorry if I came off "douchebaggy," it just looked like a question that if it were important it would've been asked a lot more. I just never worried about that before and it kinda threw me off. Again, sorry bro!

Yeah i was just worried about getting my 3500 battery out of conditioning or anything like that, because I don't have the time to condition it. If that makes sense lol, anyways all good now sorry for posting in the wrong section.

Whats the secret to amazing life?

This belongs in the Q&A section.
But to answer anyway:
- I've found the JK6 modem to be better for battery life
- Use the forum search feature for battery conditioning
- "Autostarts" app to prevent apps from auto-running after boot that don't need to.
lol, when I saw your post I thought it was some spam about "better life tips" and other self-improvement crap. But now I know it's about battery life.
I have this same question. When I use my phone, a few minutes of web browsing can make it go down 1-2%. With WiFi on, 3% or more. It's ridiculous. I read that doing the battery conditioning by charging completely, erasing battery stats (from CWM recovery), draining completely, charging completely again, will give you better battery life or reading. Only problem is that I have no time to do this because when my phone battery is almost dead during the conditioning process, I'll have to leave my house or do something, and I just can't let it be in that condition while I'm out.

UGHHHHH I hate the thanks button right next to the quote button. I keep thanking people I mean to quote. Errrr.
Anyways, I installed 2.2 with JK6, stock, the one Sombionix made available, and my battery life is great for a powerful phone.
Is there anyway to take un-thank someone? Otherwise I'm just going to need to click around more carefully.

battery life depends greatly on use too.
ROMs without wifi calling, and using a kernel like Eugene's Super_IO_Kernel, will greatly extend your battery life.
on the other hand, if you play a lot of games or have your brightness set @max, your battery will drain quickly.
also, if you are in an area with bad reception or a building with no signal, expect your battery to drain quickly.

"Battery problem with xboarder's bulletproof" cannot be anymore specific but yeah lets open new threads and become famous to the op, might be smarter asking where bulletproof belongs, that way you might get more feedback from bulletproof's users. As it regards ur concern, just deactivate automatic sync of social networks and ur battery life will be back to normal. Nothing to do with kernels
before this turns into a flame war...not everyone is able to post in the development section especially if they are new...the question belongs here since we do not have a Q/A section.
Let's get back to the topic. to the OP: can you be more specific about what is going on with your battery? 1 percent when screen is off or screen is on???
You could recalibrate your battery. Charge to 100 then go to recovery and wipe the battery stay, then unplug and drain the battery completely. After another full charge, battery life should improve.

I've noticed a little extra drain myself, but then again i haven't charged the device to 100% yet since flashing... Haven't been concerned about though.

The draining is from that the power manager can't step down the cpu. There is a process that is interfering with the power manager.
I have not had such problems. My battery lasts around 14-16 hours with normal to heavy use. That is with wifi on all the time, calls, some games, and lots of trolling around the Internet. Did you flash the kernel that is included in the zip file? And if so are you over clocked? Like someone else already said, calibrate your battery. There is an app for it in the market that make it idiot proof.
Just get the kernel from an older version and system tuner under clock it. Or try another rom fourth bar ics theme been good for me

Go try for yourself ROM 1.1 and wow people are ignorant kernel 2.6.
EDIT: PUTTING HELPFUL STUFF HERE?
Each persons use and what the expect of the phone is different. If you have wakelocks keeping your phone awake due to a rogue app, you will have less of a battery life than others. Asking people what they use is like asking what browser they use. Some might be better than others but it depends on what you like and what you are used to.
Oh and if something makes a difference, look at the amounts of thanks compared to the # of posts... and he even has a "GIVE ME THANKS" sig.... If you have to ASK for thanks, something is wrong with you.
Entropy512s kernel is basically legendary for how good it is. I've read people love 12/8, and 2/07 I believe and a few others. I use his latest.
I've read Siyah is good too, people claim better battery live on 2.6.8 and 2.6.9.
I wouldn't say either is "best" but I prefer Entropys. It's smooth and comes with CWM verses the, I believe, redpill in Siyah.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Kernel alone has little to do with battery life. There are so many factors affecting battery usage that the premise of your question is worthless and is the reason these kinds of threads get closed. They serve no purpose. As was said, try them for yourself because that's the ONLY way you will find what works best for you, your phone and the way you use it. There are no shortcuts in this regard.

Hey guys, in the forums! I need your help, but like never before :O
I flashed the exp. version of Franco.Kernel and since then the phone will not recognize the SIM, it says "No service". When trying to connect, it says Insert SIM card to access network.
Please give me a solution to my problem, I'm still running stock, flashed back to Siyah 1.2.6 and I really do't know what to do
I'm trying to remain calm, that's the best thing to do, but I can't remember what to do! I'm fustrated, worst thing is: I don't know where to get radios, basebands, etc... If nobaody helps me in the next 10 minutes, I guess I'll revert back to plan B, sammobile.com/firmware

Look, I'm all for redemption, but that's not an excuse. Someone actually asked you for the other screenshot, and you posted a the same screen at a different time. It's one thing to be a good member and another thing to try and be a good member by giving out advice. You give wrong, bad advice and act like you have all the answers. Don't say you don't, I used to look at and try and help EVERY single Q/A thread in the nexus forums when I was in between classes, so I have seen your "advice".
It doesn't matter that you said "but thanks" at the end, you still were an ass.
That's like me calling someone a retard and saying "oh I didn't mean it in a bad way".
There isn't much more to say that hasn't been said above ^^
And as far as the screenshot goes, you posted a second one the exact same as the first.
You claim that you couldn't post it because your phone broke but there was three days between the phone breaking and the battery life thread (going by thread dates)
I'm all for giving someone a chance, I even tried helping you earlier with your negative colours problem but after seeing how you acted towards that guy and how you say you have X thanks and Y posts I just thought enough is enough.
His suggestion was no worse than a lot of stuff you posted when you were trying to help people.

Well done sir, good start.
Best ROM/kernel threads are pointless because best is completely subjective. Same goes for battery life, your usage and mine could be completely different, ergo, what's good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander.

The post does not ask which ROM or Kernel is "better" because that is meaningless, but it is asking about user experiences with different ROMS and battery life.
I don't have time to try all the different ROMS out there, and this is why this is a forum no? Sharing experiences maybe?
Crdroid is my choice, totally worth trying
This is a developers forum. Not random talk and discussion, try to argue with people that follow the rules because they don't suit you, get mad when called out on not following the rules forum. If you read it objectively, you will see its a best kernel/ROM thread. He is asking for your combo of ROM and kernel with the battery life. That is a hidden way of asking what gives the best battery life. It will not work for every person the same. Its subjective to the user. There's nothing with a census of best. Some things work better for some and others it will be terrible. Get over it.

Asking what ROM is the best might be pointless but asking which ROM people PREFER is different.
Statistic work with the amount of answers. If one person say it prefer ROM "X", it might worth nothing. But if 10000 people say they prefer ROM "X", then it doesn't matter if people use their phone differently. ROM "X" is the most prefered ROM all around.
True that the battery life will differ from individuals because not everybody use the phone the same way but one person use his phone always the same way. I flash at least 3 ROMs a week so I can objectively compare the battery life of each ROM.
You might get different battery life depending on your use, but still you can tell which one give better battery life
Noobs are getting smarter. Disguising best rom threads as something like this.

I really don't see the problem. The last thread about "which is the best ROM" ended with someone proposing to make a comparison chart of the ROMs, and it was agreed(by the moderator) that it was a good idea. This thread is a comparison of the battery life between ROMs.

Yes it is a great guide:good:
Since few users gave their experience,I'll talk about mine: I've tried XPower on JellyBean 4.1 and with the Galaxyh(I think that would be the name) kernel
It gave me 48h and still had 7% battery left on the phone,so it would go till maybe 60h..
It was the one that gave me more battery life in all the Rom's I've tried so far
Right now I'm on Omega Aokp v4.2 and with the Syiah kernel 1.7rc3+
Since the installation of this Rom and kernel was yesterday,I can't give some good answer about the battery life on this, because once I'm a noob I've just figured out how to turn only dual core to save some battery late night..
