Shattered Screen? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I'm guessing there's not one person here who hasn't seen someone using an iPhone with a shattered screen - I reckon you see at least one a week...
My understanding was because the capacitive screens used glass, instead of some kind of plastic on the ole resistive type screens...
So, the x10 has a glass screen, yeah? and so do a lot of devices that are coming out with capacitive screens
So why is it I've never seen a cracked x10 (or heard of one on this forum), or even anything other than a cracked iPhone...?
Are iPhone users just clumsy, or is it bad design...?
Not flaming the iPhone or its users, but why is it the only phone prone to cracking (as far as I can see)

thats a reasonable question. ive dropped my x10 several times now (clumsy i know) but no damage to report yet. i do have a few scratches in the touchscreen protective film from when the cat decided to swipe at the phone when it rang on the coffee table, but thats another story

same.. i've dropped it many times from above the waist level and it's got no scratch/no crack... nada...(i mean the screen)

I remember at least two threads about shattered or cracked x10 displays (ok, over one of them rolled a bus, so don't let us count that one...). It's not a specific problem of the iphone, it's a problem all big displays have to face.
Sorry for not searching the other threads, but it's 2am here and i'm too lazy right now...

Yeah, seems there were at least 2 others - one got hit by a cricket ball, and another was cracked when the owner was trying to change their cover from black to white...
All of which are more like freak accidents, than common place.

I've seen maybe two shattered iPhones ever, and I see a lot of them on the trains here.
What's the point of this thread? To talk **** about the iPhone...? Like, the iPhone is the highest selling smartphone in the world... which means with their numbers, problems are going to seem bigger than they are, but they're still only a proportional percentage of the total. I would predict a similar percentage of shattered (by dropping) X10 screens as the iPhone.

But since it wasn't clear at the start, I'm just curious (I think that's what forums are also for, but maybe they're just to whine about 1.6 and 2.1 )
You are right though, it's probably got a lot to do with the percentage of iPhones, but less than a third of the phones out there are iPhones, so I'd expect there to be more other cracked phones (not just x10's) - you know, 1 iPhone for 2 other phones (maybe a Desire, perhaps a Driod, or god forbid, maybe even a Galaxy S )
but no, I've only seen iPhones, and quite a lot... I recall at least 5

I can't say I see any smartphones outside of the X10 or iPhone on any sort of regular basis here in Japan, but, I've never seen a smashed X10 and only two iPhones.
I don't think any phone is more "prone" to accidents, but it stands to reason that the more mainstream your product becomes, the more irresponsible your customer base will be with your product. Like, for the most part, geeks who take care of their phones will own an X10, but a bunch of kids or people who just don't care.

ive just been in london and while on the underground ive seen 6 or 8 people using cracked screen iphunes, and i have also dropped my x10 afew times and no damage on her what so ever!

That's a good point... I guess the most 'kids' seem to have iPhones, and out of everyone I've seen with a cracked phone, they certainly appear to be the type of person who wouldn't care too much...
Three cheers for us geeks with x10's !!!
And also, I reckon we're all so careful with our x10's cos we're patiently waiting for 2.1, and who wants to finally get 2.1 on a broken phone...??

ive seen iphones crack from just getting placed on a table. Ive seen pretty bad cracks from iphones being dropped.
Ive dropped the x10 a few times and ive had some pretty heavy stuff land squarely on the screen and its held up. in terms of overall build quality its on par with my blackberrys for sure

the rubberised backing of the x10 makes it harder to slip out of the hands.
I haven't seen or heard many desires with cracked screens either, but quite a few Samsung galaxy s with craved screens.
iPhone's are slippery with their glossy finish and the iPhone 4 is like a wet fish its so slippery.

I cracked mine
I cracked My screen playing golf it fell from about 1 metre and smashed the touch screen but still worked replaced it now for £90 though!

Ive seen one before. It was done on purpose with the end of a bayonet. But it was still smashed (needed to claim on the insurance because it would not charge) smashed a iPhone screen just by dropping it

Only the black one is rubberized. The white one is quite glossy.
Then again, I use covers on my phone, so my phones are always rubbered up!

Im the most unlucky owner
First I feel down some stairs with the phone in my back pocket = LCD display cracked
4 weeks later lost the phone out of a pocket while biking dropped on asphalt and smashed the corner of the fron/touch screen :-(
replaced both so I now know how to open a x10 and by the way got a very good offer on the front via ebay , original I think it was only 50 eur
N

I have seen many damaged Iphones. My boss actually cracked his screen getting it out of his pocket, and that was the second screen he broke.
He states that it is like the screen is already flexed and if he applied even a small amount of extra flex it would crack.

This is actually quite true. My friend had an iphone and he put it under his pillow. He rolled over it in his sleep to find the screen is shattered

Here's a story for you that someone posted on another forum I use...
I went round to my mates earlier and as I got out of my car one of his naughbours was trying to start his motorbike so I offered to give him a push start.
As I was running along I felt something hit my knee, as I looked down I saw my X10 flying to the ground and right in front of the back wheel. Just at the time he released the clutch and the back wheel locked and well Im sure you can guess what happened.

Do what you got to do. I'm on my 3rd 3vo now.
No one cares. Should I wear a red shirt tomm, or my new white one? No one cares

Cool story bro. I heard Samsung is coming out with a new phone for Sprint, you should try it out.
On my third. The first was for light leakage and a yellow tint. The second had leakage as well, so I figured I would live with it, but that one had a power button that wasn't responsive without pushing it down really hard.
This one has light leakage but everything else is fine. I'll live with it.

Who ever says no one cares, then don't click the thread and don't post? mkay?
Anyways, yeah. The new one i got is pretty much perfect, we'll see.
I would take an HTC phone, over a samdong phone any day. I actually like quality
You collecting boxes? Aren't you supposed to return the boxes too? You could sell them on Ebay:
Brand new Evo 3D box
Only $149.
Mike
Anyone tried taking theirs back for the crooked screen? If so, did they replace it? Thinking about trying. Sometimes I don't really notice it, but there are sometimes when it really seems to show out more than others.
On your new one look closely for dirt under the screen..I'm sure you will find a spec some where. Then you can return it again.
And I'm sure no one would have noticed the crooked screens if it weren't for that thread...I feel like I'm the only person in the world who actually returned their phone for an actual defect that caused
the phone to not operate as intended.

Well I was on my way to get my 6th one, and yeah all them had issues, and since I got it on launch day this was my last shot, but I have had enough. Mmm what to do? Talked to the manger and they will extend my return policy so that I can get the photon. I have to say that sprints customers service was top notch. PS. I really wanted to like this phone

Your so much better than everyone else. You probably are the only legit person here. I paid full price for this phone. My laptop doesn't have a crooked screen and it cost less than this phone. Sorry for expecting my $550 phone to have a straight screen. Plus, FYI, I noticed the crooked screen without ever reading one thing on here about it. In fact, I had no idea anyone else had noticed it until I came here to post about mine and saw the thread! Imagine that! You are wrong about something!
Yeah, imagine that....Well maybe if someone had 6 issues with 6 different phones then maybe that person should look for a different product..If i had to get something replaced that many times I can tell you that product/company would not get my business...If you've replaced a product that many times you're never going to be happy.Save yourself the headache in searching for the perfect phone and just give it up and move on.
<side note> If i paid full price sure i'd be a bit more picky, but 6 times? Does the company even deserve your hard earned money at that point?

Yes, they should. Can't imagine you'd get any flack unless you get a turd of a store. Only returned mine once: for the crooked screen. New one is perfect. Local Sprint store even let me sit down in their repair room and open and check out the brand new one before they even activated it. I confirmed the screen was straight, used the camera and gallery to search for dead pixels and then when I was satisfied, they swapped them and activated the new one. Great service!
P.S. Manager at that store commented that my screen was pretty bad. His was slightly crooked too and he said he was going to swap his out later but we both said the one I exchanged was twice as bad! Drag the notification bar down and the left edge of the notification bar on the bottom was actually underneath the blackout it was so crooked! It's only half to 3/4 of a millimeter but that's easily noticeable and since the digitizer (top glass panel) is straight and the LCD panel underneath is crooked, it can actually throw off the touch response. Straight digitizer + crooked screen = some keys on keyboard (and buttons in some apps) don't align properly and you end up pressing the wrong thing sometimes.

I definitely agree with you on that point. I haven't taken my phone back yet because of the slightly crooked screen, but am thinking about it. It doesn't affect the function of the phone one bit, but it is a bit annoying when I see it. Like I said before it is not always noticeable, but there are certain times it is.
Some people are never satisfied and that's just the way it is.

I'm on my fourth e3d ..this is the first time I've ever had to exchange a phone for any reason..first one had a bad 3g radio..2nd had a blown earpiece 3rd wasn't to bad but still had bad reception and the rep actually wanted me to exchange it..all I wanted was to test it..just got this one and so far so good..usually I wouldnt stick with a product that had issues like this but I.just love HTC..I played with my nieces captivate and I couldn't stand the UI..no pinch.to zoom on photos and it just was difficult to navigate..and she's still on 2.1 update 1 ..I thought those phone had froyo already

If your screen is crooked and you noticed it with out the thread in this forum pointing it out to you then maybe your screen is crooked enough to warrant a swap out..My screen actually bricked on 3d content and anytime 3d activated,my phone would restart every time..If this phone I have now had an issue then I'd be done with it..I love the phone, but I think a lot of people here are wanting to love theirs and that's where the picky-ness sets in..I get it but I don't want to look forward to liking a product I buy..I want to like it for being what it is and performing the way it was intended...
Sorry if I came off as being greater than anyone else,I wasn't trying to..I just think I have a higher tolerance for technology than most..

Cracked screen - Warranty?

It seems I am one of the unlucky ones, who by accident break their phones while having it in the pocket. A week after I bought the Z Ultra, I discovered that the phone was bent, i.e. the corners were a couple of millimeters taller than the middle of the phone, which I decided to remedy by bending it back once in a while. But alas, it is broken now.
After looking at the picture, people are probably going to say, that its caused by bumping into something, but I can pretty much rule that out, as I always have the power button on the phone facing my important pants, which means that the screen is facing my left leg. If I bumped into something, then my important parts would hurt as well.
The big question is: are they going to fix it under warranty, or should I fix it myself?

As you can see, the cracks starts beneath the power button, and moves across to where the speaker is. It looks very much like it couldnt handle the stress any more, on the corners?
You've probably bent the frame too much when having it your pants pocket, and it probably couldn't handle the stress at one point and snapped.
Will it be covered by your warranty? I doubt it. Don't you have some insurance?

Yeah, that sounds plausible.
I do have insurance, but I have to pay a deductible of 140€ / $193, or almost 1/5 of the price of a new Z Ultra.

Yeah, that sucks, but do you have any choice? You can either sell it as it is for a very low amount of cash, you can keep the screen cracked and hate your Ultra, or you can invest €140 into it and also get some money back if you're going to sell it down the road.

This happened to me a week ago. I was texting and I had just put it back in my pocket and it vibrated and I went to text the person back and it was cracked and I couldn't do anything. I called the lady that finally sent me a new phone for free the last time my phone broke. This time she told me that this is a problem with the phone and has been happening to many people and I should get it done for free. I hope she is right because I have sent my phone back but I have not heard from sony yet which is not surprising because I had to email the a bijillion times last time to even get a response about my phone that they couldn't fix due to a operating system problem. This has never happened to me with other phones. Don't get me wrong I love my phone and missed it dearly since i sent it back last monday breaking on sunday. I can not wait to get it back because using an old laggy s2 is not fun. Which I have had for 2 years and never had really bad problems with it. Only lags because the rom I use is horrible and cant flash another rom because my recovery doesn't work like it should. Back on topic. I have had this phone since november and it has broke twice. I will be mad if I have to pay anything since i got this new replacement one in december. I will pay what they want me to though but paying 680$ for a phone that breaks every month is not cool. For 680 I should get a phone that last a lifetime. I am considering selling my baby. But I really don't want to even though it breaks a lot. I love it either way. I will update you if I have to pay anything but for now it is in Texas where I sent my old phone back. Ill keep you update.

Cracked screen, warranty replacement unit issued - UK

So, a couple of weeks back the top of my screen got less and less responsive, then went numb.
The display was still working fine, just the touch had gone funky!
Previously I had updated to first official 4.2.2, and the phone used to get super hot, I didn't think anything of it as most of my other devices did the same at one point or another. Turns out my phone had become a casualty of the overheating / hairline crack fault.
I spoke to an online advisor who booked me in to have it assessed and repaired, and right before I sent it off I showed my housemate the waterproof function. Turns out that had failed too... an hour or so later the screen went murky and the indicator had turned slightly pink!
I wrote a little cover note explaining that the device also seemed to have suffered water damage, and sent it off expecting to have to pay to get it back.
Got an email from Sony Xperia Customer Support today confirming that:
"engineers have attempted to repair your handset under the terms and conditions of the Sony Limited Warranty. The fault on your handset, although covered by warranty, was not repairable so we have provided a like for like exchange unit"
So looks like if the worst does happen, they're being nice about it in the UK too
Lucky u...
Some user cant claim as the sceen crack itself...
Even water damage were to be blame to the user when the sticker turn red...

The email was only sent yesterday and my new phone arrived today Seems they've given me my old back panel too, before it got damaged there was some crap that got inbetween my protective case and the back of the phone which etched away at the plastic film on the glass. The new one has marks all in the same places but I have a new phone carcass, screen, motherboard, IMEI etc
And the water sticker turned pink after my screen died, before I sent it off to service I stuck it in a bowl of tap water to show my pal, 2 or so hours later all it did was vibrate when you pressed the power button, then I checked the litmus and BAM! pink.
Nice to know companies offer decent customer service, I hate a Moto RAZR and they replaced a broken screen without question for free which was a great suprise.

Wish I would have thought of that when the screen hairline cracked on my xt910 :'(

hey, an update on what happened with mine..
Basically same happened to mine as yours.. although it was just my screen went dull after water damage.. Then I went to Egypt, and on the flight there the screen started acting weird and wouldnt let me touch anywhere, and the water sensors went from very pale pink to red! So I got home on 15th May and sent it the next day.
Received it back on the 28th May and straight away noticed that the top left (charger) port flap was missing the protective seal, meaning waterproofing feature wouldn't work. I phoned them right away and they said I was to send it back. I explained to them that I'd need to delay sending it away as I was going away for 3 weeks. So now I'm back I was just about to package it all up etc ready for sending off tomorrow.. I took of my case (cheap plastic one that didn't fit very tightly) and the side bezel came straight off, aslong as the bottom bezel!!
So, I've attached a letter along with the phone explaining my rage lmao. The phone I sent was only 3 weeks old and I get it back and there's massive scratches on rear glass etc!
Pic attached of bezel.

God that's horrendous!
I must admit the phone I got back had scratches on the back too, but so did the one I sent in, so I thought the kept my battery cover like all the old phone warranties used to (anyone else remember that?)
Only complaint I've had with the replacement is that the speaker on this one is terrible!
On my original phone the bass from the speaker shook the phone in my hand. This one is just weak and completely lacking in bass
Can't be without it again though, so for now I'm using the GPe ROM as it seems to offer the loudest sound output for this particular handset.
Not sure if my next handset will be another Sony or not at the moment, I do live my phone (battery life, signal reception, and screen quality are insanely pleasing to me) but there are little niggles with touch responsiveness, speaker output (yes I know they trade off volume for watertightness, but my Mrs Z1 and the Z2s are way better) and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth has been shocking on both my c6833s.

Horrendous indeed lol!
When I sent mine in was literally 3 weeks old and hadn't been used that much since I was still using my S4 at the time and had case and protector on since the day I got it so was almost brand new.
Regards to the volume I've noticed the same, where as my partners Ultra is much louder and has more bass.
Im thinking about getting rid of the ultra after only having it a very short 3 months lol. If they put a flash in it, improved sound, and the awful touch screen then I'd defo upgrade to that, but seems like Sony has abandoned the ultra's production !
Don't forget, the ZU2 is due out soon enough... That's the trouble with these fancy phones coming out every 6 months! I wonder if it's some sort of kernel thing re: speaker bass, I've tried a few but no success as yet. Touch response seems better on doom kernel for no apparent reason, afaik it's the exact same touchscreen module in the doomlords kernel as you get with stock but it seems to work better. Also religious cleaning of the screen helps, and I don't run a screen protector.

Glass being prone to crack?

I'm thinking about buying a Z5 Compact, but when reading about all the cases, where the glass on the front or the rear have cracked, on the Z1 Compact and Z3 Compact, I'm not so sure anymore.
What is the situation like with the Z5C vs Z3C/Z1C regarding the glass being prone to crack?
Thanks in advance.
David
I'm in the same situation myself.
However, I doubt we will be able to get feedback regarding this already. The "cracked glass" cases on the Z3C appeared IIRC only some time (months) after the release. Personally I plan to try to resist the urge to buy for 2-3 months and then check if there are any reports.

Just that. I'd wait a few months for a new batch, then you should be fine.

That's exactly what I said about my z3 compact for 9 months, feeling smugly sorry for all the people reporting cracked glass, until it cracked in my hand. On the other hand, that was the best reason to buy a z5 compact. Silly me.

Does it have a gorilla glass? I have searched around but not being able to get confirmation.

It's been discussed in many other places and the consensus is that it doesn't have gorilla. Apparently, the producer for Sony tempered glass panels is unknown.

Bumping this up a bit..
Didnt want to open a new thread seeing as how this one is still here.
I'm on the edge of purchasing this phone but the spontaneous cracking glass issue and low durability of its predecessor (Z3C) are bugging me..
Was wondering if there are perhaps some more updated impressions regarding this.
Thanks.
I had z1c then z3c, my girlfriend, my sister and brother in law all still have the z3c.
All glass backs.
No cracks on any of these devices.
Other then when literally throwing the phone to ground by accident the front digitiser cracked (back was intact.)
Easy replacement as new chassis with inbuilt digi and screen was like £60 and very simple to replace the housing.
The spontaneous glass crack is hoopla if you take my consolidated multi user experience.
Don't let this phase your decision.
Also bear in mind the glass back plate believe it or not is the simplest thing to replace takes 2mins with a heatgun (again first hand experience.)

I'd be interested to hear more on the replacement procedure. Are there detailed instructions? If it isnt majorly expensive then it's not THAT big of a deal.
I see many cases on the market but no one ever actually tests the case to see how effective it is. Who is willing to drop their phone several times and see if their case works I remember seeing a review of iphone bumpers where they actually did drop several phones and only the really thick ones (like 0.5cm wide) actually protected the phone. Glass typically breaks from an edge hit. Does the glass go all the way to the edge, or is there a border around it? What is the boarder made of and how much energy can it really absorb. Now intuitively, I'd assume that the "compact" phone would be more resilient to cracks due to its size.
My last phone, I had a protector, but my current phone doesnt have one. I've never broken a screen, though I've cracked the casing. Both were gorilla glass. But I have no idea if that is just dumb luck.
I had a Z3, in a high quality case, the back cracked by itself. I was having issues with the speaker being quiet but was told the warranty was void due to the hairline crack in the back. Then a while later I dropped it but I caught it on my foot before it hit the ground so it was a very minor fall, but it was enough to crack the screen, a very thin hairline crack but still a crack, this stopped the screen from working so I was stuck without a phone. I got it replaced, and the back while I was at it, cost me $300 (AUD) to fix. The day I got the phone back, I was sat down at a table, wrote a message to my wife put the phone back in my jacket pocket, she text back so I pulled the phone out to check the message and there was a big crack across the screen. I did not drop it at all! Again the screen would not work. I didnt want to pay another $300 to fix the phone as they said the crack was due to stress (bull), so I bought a s6 galaxy, even though my Z3 was only 4 months old! Because the screen would not work with the crack in it, I could not get any of my data off the phone, when I plugged it into the PC I needed to unlock the phone but couldn't because the screen did not work, was very frustrated! Never buying a Sony again until they can confirm they have fixed this issue. The phone was too thin and flexed easily, my galaxy is thin but feels much more solid.
I have had a Z5C for a couple of months now. I spend a lot of time outdoors and am generally a bit rough with tech. I have dropped my phone from about a metre up a couple of times by accident already - knocked off tables etc. and have not suffered any ill effects yet.
Have dropped my phone SEVERAL times but still, screen takes it like a champ. Really durable phone if you ask me
I'm gentle with my phones, and even had a gel case on mine and yet the back seems to have cracked somehow without even a drop. The worst part is that I imported mine (don't sell them in Canada), so I can't get it fixed. I bought a skin from dbrand instead, and you can't even tell it's shattered any more.
Another user of z3c here , i can also confirm the glass problem is definitely a problem with z3c , dropped from 2 feet and back glass shattered , then drop from car seat on to the drive and cracked front from corner to corner disabling digitizer so now im using my phone with an otg mouse.
Im in the market for a new phone, but there is nothing except the z5c with a top spec that isn't stupidly big 5" + , i just tried a 5" asus phone very nice but just far too big for a phone, its not meant to be a bloody computer , its a phone, cant wait until they start becoming a bit more realistic again.
So i have looked at z5 , but i see exactly the same thread on the sony forums that was going for months if not years regarding z3 screen , and sony are still not taking responsibility and it looks like the design is still the same for z5c , such a shame as the phone is perfect in every way other than this defect (and some of the crap software add ons, but that's manageable)
Any other recommendations ?, it seems like i will be forced to buy an older gen phone , or a low end thing like moto E , why the hell did they make motog screen bigger after the first edition , ruined it as that was almost perfect too. I am considering a wileyfox , im just hoping some of these 5" ers have a minimal bezzal around the screen , the asus had a pretty big one it looked a like a plate , and that was their smallest one - how things have changed since the 8210 - at least i will save money if i buy a lower spec phone, but i'm a tech enthusiast and i want the best always have, they are turning away my money , there is nothing usable worth buying .
Back to the original topic , z5c , i just cant risk the money on it if it has such a fundamental floor , its an expensive phone compared to most other 4.5,6,7,8" phones that are usually around 100-150 , money isnt really the object though for the right phone i would pay. I have never had a phone screen crack before , and my z3 sees less action than any of my others as i work from home now and spend a lot more time in the house with my baby daughter, the htc phones are good , i lost count of the amount of times i dropped my desire HD hard , and when it was replaced by moto g it go even more brutal treatment as a second phone i kicked it down the road pissed and threw it against the wall several times, dropped down stairs and out of my pocket while riding a bike quickly , marks to the metal body but the screen was indestructible , i managed to break the moto g screen but i had fixed as i convinced them it was ridiculous that it broke failing off a sofa onto carpet but my replacement was fine , i had a painful time trying to do the same with sony though and with the endless complaints online, its obviously an inherent fault , im just appalled the z5c hasn't changed this.
This maybe a slightly unfocused rant , but i'm sure there are others that share my view , big spenders in the mobile sector have just been abandoned , someone needs to fill the gap in the market.
My partner also has the same issue , but is currently using a one mini 2 , which is very nice , but now slightly dated and HTC only went and cancelled all the updates , it didn't even get lollipop , why , it was the best phone they did by miles, and on top of that , they cancelled the mini3 , ultimate face palm
Where do i go chinese market ?
the blackberry blackphone is 4.7" , but i fear this is **** as it uses blackbery os, and i believe it has the other showstopping problem that the asus has , in that the processors architecture makes it incompatible with many apps, such as the only that is critical to me , the banking app with barclays.
Such a struggle, am i off to the chinese market? , i have no ****ing clue.

I'm with you on the needing a small phone thing. I'd check out Samsung's lineup. a3, a5, s4 mini, alpha, s5 mini. There's something for almost everyone. I was curious if the z1c and z3c but they always had there drawbacks, z5c I took the shot and ain't liking it.
If you dot care about expandable memory or user replaceable batteries there's a few other options as well.
Sadly , i ****ing hate the ugly samsung software, but i did seriously look at the a series, whilst thinking wtf , how am i being forced to consider a low end phone when tech is my number one interest and about the only thing i warrant spending lots of money on, i will end up saving money at this rate - i am looking at the oneplus x now, as it seems to have a bit smaller outer dimensions , and still a decent spec but of course it's 5" too
trouble is i ran into this page recently https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/820 , and now i need to have that processor in my next phone.
I think i will grab a wiley swift for now, only £130 to get me by , and even £20 cash back from manufacturer now , its not high spec i know , but im desperate for something now, and no way am i giving these 'leading' manufacturers money to encourage the ridiculous types of phones they are churning out by the bucket now, they are ****ing house phones not something to carry around with you, i could imagine them wall mounted , but Gzus i see some people carrying these things and it looks like they are going into battle with the 'visionaries' .....

Id try a z5c if it was about 1/2 the price and i didnt have a z3c already, for now i might just fix myz3c and put it inside a cage , it will still be smaller than these 5" devices - what did you find wrong with it though ?
I've owned a Z1C and now a Z5C and never had cracking issues on either. Don't drop your phone, it won't crack. If you're prone to dropping your phone, always get a case, because it's stupid to risk that much money on being clumsy.

Bubbels inside screen in every corner

Recently I found some weird little air bubbles in the corners off my Nexus 9. I don't have any screen protector so that isn't it. It has never repared or replaced before, it's still original.
The air bubbles show up on the left side in both corners and are around 2mm big. In the corners on the right side are also starting to show some bubbles but they are hard to see. I took some pictures, to show you.

Does anyone has any idea what has happened or what is wrong with it.
O, I never let the device fall so that not the case also.
It's almost 2 years old now and still has some warranty on it.

Photo URL and Google replaced some parts
Hi,
New update about the weird little bubbles in the edge of my screen.
I send my Nexus back to the shop and one week later I was called that they replaced some parts and that the problem was solved. I didn't know what parts where replaced but definitely the screen, back cover and the volume buttons have been replaced. It looks brand new and maybe it is another Nexus.
Here are some old photos because the old URL is broke .

Let me know of the URL works now ow and of you have more questions, please let me know.

Did you contact HTC directly, or did you contact Google, or did you just send your N9 back to the place you bought it from?
I bought my N9 from Amazon in Dec. 2014, so I'm not sure who to contact, and I'm not even sure I've got a 2 year warranty.

I brought it back to the place where I bought it and got it returned in 8 days.
I have 2 bubbles at top left corner and 1 at top right corner. Can't fix
All you need to fix it is bring to repair. I think it's look like glue or plastic just heat and melt down.
PS: same problem and in my country had no store accept to fix it. I think they don't have screen to replace it
Got it too - a bubble in top right corner slowly growing. Do not have either google or htc representative nearby, what am I supposed to do?
Did anyone get anywhere with this? My Nexus 9 has the same issue.
I contacted Google but as my N9 is over 2yo, they won't help me. All they would do is put me through to HTC.
I spoke with HTC and they kept implying I mistreated it or got it wet (I didn't!) Their only solution was to send it in for inspection. That's going to cost $AUD49.50 if I don't proceed with the repair.
I'm disappointed. With several cases like this, I'd say it's some kind of manufacturing defect.

I have it too. Guess I'm just going to have to live with it. I replaced the screen on my n7 (2013), it was fairly easy (for my first time doing something like that). This one looks a little harder, and more expensive. If it gets too bad I'm going to break down and do it. Not too many good tablets out there right now. This one isn't bad with custom ROM on it. Not great, but not bad.

This is an old thread but my Nexus 9 has started developing bubbles over the last couple of months, and in the last couple of weeks I've gone from one to three in the top RH corner (just above the battery symbol) and another small one a bit over to the left. Has anyone tried any fixes like applying heat/pressure or anything? I've just gotten to the point where I'm relatively happy with its performance and still can't find a worthy replacement, so I'd like to keep it going for as long as possible.
I got mine repaired, it was still under warranty. But is came back after a year or so.... Never tried to fix it again after that.
same here, 2 bubbles growing...
I just ignore it as it didnt effect the display...

seems i am late to the party ... mine was in the tip right corner and now its moved an inch left ...and i see 2 new ones on the edge ... a manufacturing defect ... seems the corners of the nexus screen by design are such that its sucking in air and the glue closes in from behind forming a bubble ... and further stress on the screen (like tucking the nexus 9 in between clothes for instance while travelling) seem to trigger this movement which in air in between the screen and digitizer bonding ...

There's no solution to fix it other than replacing the LCD panel....
I have a couple of the Nexus 9 tablets and almost all of them have what looks like bubbles around the screen. However these are not bubbles. The optically clear adhesive that the manufacturer used on these tablets shrinks over time. What you're seeing is actually vacuum pockets. There is no air in these "bubbles" at all. Although disturbing, they are just cosmetic and should not affect the operation of the tablet.
