[Q] Can't update J16 with ODIN??? Gets stuck half way... - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I had the same problem as many out there, got the OTA update from tmobile, tried to install it, installation failed, screen stuck on vibrant. OK! So I dowloaded ODIN, followed all instrunctions, was able to wipe and reinstall to stock with no problems.
The problem is when I try to update the new OTA J16 with ODIN, it starts the process, makes to where it says factory... and doesn't go any further, I waited up to 15 minutes one time. I haven't seen anyone else with the same issue...can plese someone help???
Help much appreciated...

I can't post links, but try this ROM out it worked for me. Search for this:
[TUTORIAL][ROM] How to fix your phone and apply the update
It lets you go back to stock then update to ji6.
Hope this helps.
EDIT:
Be sure you don't have re-partition clicked when your trying to update to JI6

I'm already back to stock as I said in my first post (re-partition, 512, original) That wasn't a problem, the problem is when I try to update to j16, it loads about half way then it freezes. I don't understand why! WTF!

Try using mini kies to perform the update.

Wow. Yet another poster referring to the the update as J ONE 6. Where are you seeing this? Not that it matters much but it's J EYE SIX and will affect searching to a degree.

Sorry.....J-I-6 my bad.
Thanks, I'll give mini a shot

What version of ODIN did you try? v1.3 proved to be more stable than v1.0

I tried both versions, V1 first a few times, then V1.3, both with the same results. Followed instructions to the T. It'S funny cause the full reinstall back to stock was smooth, and i did that a few times as well, since when it froze, I was forced to.

[q] froyo/sweet honey

I am fairly new to all this and am wondering if I need to have the stock Froyo installed to flash the new Sweet Honey 2.5 ROM. I thought I read that somewhere in the development forums. I am running Bionix 1.3.1, and the battery drains so fast I am looking for something else to try. If I Odin back to stock before I flash Sweet Honey, does it matter what I was using before? Thanks.
Noo you dont need to do nothing...just flash...if you odin back you will lose root...just flash the rom and thats all

Yup, no need to Odin back unless you are having major issues. Just follow the installation instructions in the thread step-by-step and you shouldn't have a single issue.

I actually just switched from Bionix 1.3.1 to Sweet Honey to try it out and had no problems flashing it. Just make sure to do it from Rom Manager as suggested in the op.
Flashed it last night, and it is working like a champ. The only thing I couldn't do is install the updated G-mail app. When I hit the install button it says it is not installed. I have the most current G-mail app from the market, but I loved the new G-mail icon and would like to get it back. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I flashed sweet honey and i have problems receiving phone calls. then i flashed back to bionix 1.3, and i had alot of FCs. then i tried B 1.3.1 and still had force closes. so now im back to sweet honey. cuz odin wont reconize my phone in download mode
Now that you mention it, I haven't received any calls yet. I tried calling my phone from another phone, and it rings once and disconnects. Did you find a solution? Anyone out there have a solution? It's kind of important to be able to receive calls. I can initiate a call with no problems.
No i havent found a solution. im still trying to get my pc to reconize my phone in download mode. my phone is really messed up lol

You may have to go into Root Explorer, find the gmail app and long press it. You should get a menu pop up. Click fix permissions and make sure that read/write are checked for the first one and only read for the other two.

You two may want to send a message to Explodingboy and see if he can figure it out. I didn't seem to have that issue. My only question would be did you guys flash it like he suggested or did you just flash it through Clockwork recovery? My flashing addiction has taken me to Jellette's Atriarc rom which seems great as well.

Help flashing Kens GB

I dont know what i am doing wrong i have bricked 3x trying to get this going. Ok here is the scoop one final time. I am on HKTW rigght now and i go to the CMW and flash the 4.5 it starts off smooth and then it gets stuck at the web-top permissions for some reason. DO i have to start from a lower build and update? I am determined to get this working tonight because i really dont want to get comfy with the HKTW because ill loose a lot when i eventually do flash. So some instructions please do i have to wipe anything before flashing? Please help me out and i leave yall in peace
Try with beta 3 first, I went from hktw to beta 3 with no issues

Do you mind giving a little more info? What version of the CWM you are using might help, what exactly you mean when you say it gets stuck at the Webtop permissions, which exact version of 2.3.4 are you trying to install...
If you mean it hits Webtop during the install and doesn't go anywhere... well, for some reason Webtop takes for godawful ever to install. Several minutes. Try letting it sit for a little while?
Same boat
I'm in the same boat as you frankie. Had to flash back to HKTW because it kept getting stuck on dual core technology screen. Tried both Kens and Nava's GB .zips with no luck. Just realized my CWM is outdated, but I don't see how that would be the problem. The installation with Kens GB says its completed but the green bar isn't full, I let it sit and it fills up. I will update CWM and try again.
Try the beta 3 NOT 4.5

LMFAO I'm an idot... It was the outdated CWM, I updated it and it installed Kens GB ROM with no problem. Frankie I hope this works for you.
Funny how one small thing can break everything, isn't it?
True that, I think the main issue was the wipe data/format. Which the new CWM fixed
D$G THANK YOU for realizing what your mistake was. You know what? I have been making the exact same mistake. An old version of CWM, and getting stuck at the dual core screen. I get a feeling it will flash correctly for me this time. I hope the OP gets his own problem fixed.
yea thanks for real but how do i know which version i am using of it lol
[Edit] HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH IT WORKS its because i didnt have updated CMW but more important i cannot flash the radio.... why?
You have to flash the radio via RSDLite

Bootlooped, Odin Won't Work, Coming from MIUI. Desparate...

Just got a Fascinate the other day, rooted it, everything was fine. After going through hell with Clockwork (what a pain in the ass CWM is on this phone compared to Droid, DX, Thunderbolt, Incredible, and every other damn phone on the planet) I finally got CWM installed -- the red one... CWM All or whatever it's called. Wanted to ty out MIUI so I flashed it and this moved me to the ORANGE CWM. MIUI installed, I played with it, I obviously did something wrong because EVERYTHING was force closing. Tried to flash to a different rom bc my backup was missing (whoops... it was on my other sd card) and I couldn't get anything installed. Tried CM7, and many other roms. Tried flashing back to the red CWM all, then got a message telling me I had to install an edify compatible rom. Downloaded community rom, FINALLY! INSTALLS SUCCEsSFULLY! Except now im stuck at a bootloop. It won't let me restore my old backups, I can't boot into ANY rom, I'm completely lost. I've searched for hours, it's 1:30 in the morning, I have to be up in 6 hours, I'm completely exhaused and have tried everything and can't find a fix.
When I try odin fixes nothing works. It just says 0 passed / 0 failed and does nothing. Does anyone have any idea what to do?
Edit: When I try to restore a backup it just says CHECKING MD5 SUMS for a while, and then tells me there's a mismatch. Latest attempt was from orange CWM... 4.0.5 or whatever it is...
And if i try to install CM7 or MIUI it says can't copy meta-inf and aborts the installation...???
Have you tried using Heimdall?

I've not, and I appreciate your feedback, BUT, I'm fixed.
To those who come across this, it turns out WINDOWS VISTA was the issue. Odin just wouldn't work with it. Followed the thread below on a Windows 7 computer and it instantly fixed me. Thank God.

Vibrant stuck at boot logo.

Hi guys. I rarely come for help here but well...here I am.
Alright, the problem is a friend of mine did a factory reset(I think) to his while running a custom rom with lagfix. Now the phone got stuck at the vibrant logo. I got the phone, started odin, and tried to flash it back to stock(Froyo) but still have the same problem. If I'm not mistaken, He was running a gingerbread ROM. Is the problem the bootloader?
Here's the screens I'm getting:
After flashing with ODIN, notice it says "failed" on some of the lines on the recovery:

Also fails on the data wipe:

Uhh ohhh!

Tried flashing back to stock JFD (2.1)? That usually fixes anything for me... I don't think GB bootloaders would do that?
Locate my GingerZen thread in the Development section, in the second post, follow the FTDNB steps I posted, and breathe some life back into that thing.

ALright guys thanks! Will try this when I get some time next week. Will let you know if it revived!
I'll release a heimdall-one click for Vibrant soon enough. This will totally reset your device. Wait until tonight, I'll likely have it online.
Perfect! thanks man!
You would think the .pit and .tar flash in ODIN would fix the problem. Of course you'd lose all memory in the phone and external SD card.
Those guys are smarter anyways

Vibrant Bricked.

I got my vibrant bricked yesterday while i was returning to stock rom and then upgrading it to Froyo through samsung kies mini. I tried all types of combinations of keys and ended up it failure. I cant get the mobile into download mode. Many say that with the help of USB jig i can unbrick it easily and get the download mode back.
I would like to know few opinion regarding this.
Have you read the thread below this one? Is your problem similar?

After that only i got the phone bricked where i upgraded to froyo using the samsung kies mini and when everything got upgraded the phone didnt reboot at all for about 1/2 hr. i tried all sort of things and nothing responded.
Yeah that's the thread I was talking about, I've had that problem and went through all that but not your issue. Sorry thought I could help.

Actually The Problem is.
We Updated the Device to CM7 and ICS and we messed up the Modem in it. SO we didnt get signal after the boot up and also by flashing a Modem.
Then what we did is, we used ODIN back to ECLAIR and it boot up fine and we got signal and everything was working fine like out of the box.
Then we used KIES MINI to update the software from ECLAIR TO FROYO officially.
Kies mini went fine in the Process and after it said Firmware update process completed we click finished and then nothing showed up on the device..
It shows blank screen all the time, key combination wont work and also it wont boot up.
Also we tried the download mode by pulling out the battery, still no sign of download mode yet..
Yea been searching in many forums and saw some useful posts regarding this brick.
There has been some problems with the update of froyo v2.2 that is released and many customers got the phone bricked during this update. This is the same thing that happened to me the other day..
http://androidgals.com/2011/01/22/froyo-upgrade-fails-for-some-vibrant-users-see-our-fix/
Hope i get my jig today and try to get into the download mode and update you guys here. Anyways....... its like ((
