Since yesterday I noticed a sudden problem with my XDA I can not sort out, and I would like to ask this community for help on this one:
Problem:
Emails stored in the outbox do not get transmitted during a GPRS connection with my provider.
Observations:
The login process goes as usual, it even says "sending emails ...", which takes the usual while, incoming mails get downloaded to the device, but after the connection is over it says "could not upload emails, check your setting or talk to the provider" in an alert box. When I look into the outbox all the mails I wanted to send are still there, and they are not just forgotten to delete after sending (I sent some to myself to check).
I have of cause checked the settings, and I know the account is working, because I can access it via my laptop.
The radio must be able to send, because it would not be able to establish a connection otherwise.
I resetted the device, but this had no effect.
I thried to use the dvice in a different GPRS zone (other city) but the issue remains the same.
I searched the forum, but did not find any usable information.
Question:
Have these things be observed before?
Does anyone have a hint on how to sort this issue out or what to look at closer?
Any hints would be appreciated,
Martin
i had this prblm b4...but then i used nPop and it worked fine, but now i dont even use that, i just use "myemail.t-mobile.com" as the outgoing mail, but thats just 4 TMO

Well I know I cannot do that with my Device.
Here in NZ the ISP's block access to the SMTP servers from any connection outside their network.
They do this to stop Spammers using their SMTP servers.
Often they still allow access to the POP servers, because they are authenticated, which fits your symptoms, you can receive, but not send, via your GPRS.
One solution is to set the account up to use your cellphone companies SMTP server if they have one. So you send your mail via smtp.Vodafone.net.nz for example.
..Chuck..
Thank you for your replies!
I checked with my provider to find out if they changed their POP/SMTP settings, but they didn't.
It then took me a while to find out this is a software issue.
In fact it is in some software on the device, and it comes back after hard resetting and copying back the SD backup. I did a double hard reset with a clean reinstall of all software and now I'm able to send mails again.
I could not exactly find out which part of the software, because I can not extract or delete individual files from the backup or resore thm one by one to eliminate faulty files. (is there a tool for this?)
I have the suspicion that establishing two active sync partnerships did the change: Before I had the problem, I had only one computer I synced with, but short before that I bought a new Laptop and now sync with two computers (one being a server, via a network). This might have corrupted something within the networking settings, that is not accessible via the option and connection setting pages.
I'd really like to have an overview page to check on all current settings instead of using settings... and options... dialogs in different locations, but that's another story.
It's working again.
Thanks once more for your replies!

My post is even more basic. I would like to see a short, simple sequence of events to "send an e-mail" from my sx-56.
A. Which program do I use to send (if there is a different one to receive, what it that)?
B. What are the entities that I have to enter into the fields, on which program?
C. What is the procedure for composing and sending the e-mail once the preliminary data has been entered?
The PDA works fine
The phone works fine
Thanks,
Lou
I can't send any email. I had 1 message send on thursday somehow but nothing else gets out. My settings are configured properly but for some reason every time i try to send a message via email I always get the error saying i have no connection or my settings are wrong. anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?
edit: Solved. Turns out I had my gmail account settings added through an OEM I made and there was something wonky in it. I deleted the account from the phone and re-added the account manually (without allowing it to auto-detect settings) and it works fine now. I find it strange that the problem also affected other email accounts that were using smtp.gmail.com to send out but doesn't now... odd.
Hi
Just received my first HTC handset (Hero on T-Mobile) on Friday and really liking it.
However, while I have set up my Hotmail ok, I cant set up my Sky email on it
I have enabled POP on my account and I enter my email, username and password and configure the POP settings with Sky's pop address (pop.tools.sky.com), SSL and set port 995. When I click next and it tries to verify the info it comes back with "authentication failed, please verify Username/password".
I know the password is correct! I have tried the username with and without the @sky.com bit but still get the same error.
Having done a quick search, I have found similar problems and have tried a factory restore and an email app (k-9) but still no joy.
If is probably something obvious but I have no clue what to do! Any Help??
Hi,
I had a few problems with email yesterday that ended with me changing from IMAP to POP for my main email address. Whilst this is now working ok, I'm not getting notifications (sound, top bar or the little number on the envelope) of new email. Anyone have any ideas? The little number does re-appear after I've opened my email but it's nice to see if new email has arrived beforehand.
I've turned the settings on and off to see if that made any difference but no luck.
I'm currently running Modaco 3.0 but was having this problem yesterday after setting up the POP account under 2.8.
Thanks
you need to check the notication settings inside of the htc mail app. i had a similar problem (no sound, no vibrate) and eventually noticed that it was turned off there.
if you meant that than sorry, can't help ya...
No sorry I've already checked in there and unchecked everything then checked it all again no joy.
Thanks for trying to help though
Twice in 3 days ive got this, i done a nandroid then changed my password and no problems but ive just got it again, when i go into the market it only shows the settings and in the password only allows you to enter up to 4 numbers and no letters and my gmail password is a combination of letters and numbers,i had to change my password again as gmail informed me that suspicious activity on my account was reported from Mexico so i changed it but am not getting the same problem as before, what is going on here, can anyone shed some light on this?
I sorted it, cleared cache and dalvik and rebooted, phew
EDIT - If you do need to change your gmail password this could prove troublesome when it comes to using the market, ill not be changing it again now for a log time
