This is the vibrant bible.
Down the latest version of odin, the samsung drivers, and a tarball of the stock JFD firmware.
To get into download mode:
Turn phone off.
Plus USB cable into computer but not phone.
Hold Vol Up and Vol Down.
While holding the volume buttons, plug the usb cable in the phone.
Follow the directions from the Odin thread from here.
Sounds like you're in the recovery menu. Do you have the update.zip of cwm? If so, then click reinstall packages from the recovery menu and you should boot to cwm. flash the same rom and see if that helps. You should be good, as long as the rom isn't corrupt. It worked for me.

Ok. Here is what you need to do
1a) Watch this tutorial at least twice.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810130
1b) Download all of the files from here. (drivers, PIT, TAR, ODIN3.exe)
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Follow the above tutorial. If something seems unclear. I have PM-ed you my gtalk address/gmail . Just email me or add me to gtalk. Will reply asap.
P.s: some precautions that i take for no reason other than my sanity:
a) Put the odin.exe and the PIT and the TAR file in the same folder.
(i make copies of odin.exe ... dunno why .. )
b) Remove SD card and SIM card before doing so.
edit: Oh, forgot to add, I Odin-ed back to Stock JFD rom first. Then i waited 10 minutes. And then odined the second JL4 rom
It works now. Thank you all for your help! Especially, ozmulti for your detail instructions. Thank you!

I rooted my phone not too long ago and finally decided to add a custom ROM to my Vibrant. I went with the eugene373 Vibrant Hybrid after using the ROM manager to extract it the phone froze on the boot up screen I can hear the boot up sound but stays on the screen the rest of the time. I followed all the info on the rooting process but I don't know if there's a way I can just got back or fix the ROM. Thanks in advance!

Please note "Q" means question not "DEV".
Instead of telling people "wrong thread" why not just help them. Go to the "Bible" in development thread download odin and stock jfd, once you downloaded those 2 run odin press PIT and click on the 512.pit file and for pda its the JFD you downloaded if you dont understand what im saying go look at threads of how to use odin back to stock its more detailed. Your phone itself has to be in download mode, easiest way since the 3 button dont work for some (like me) fully turn off your phone if it doesnt pull the battery out. Once its fully off press and hold the 2 volume keys and plug in the usb and your in the download screen and press Start for odin and your back at stock. (And now that I helped) next time post this into a Q&A or General thread so you dont get flamed. Good luck

Hey Gang! I did some searching and couldn't find my answer so I need some help please. I have the Vibrant (tmo). I did the one click root and then installed Ginger clone final R2. All worked well but then I noticed I could not get back into Clockwork recovery to try another ROM. So... I found the thread explaining how to get back to factory firmware. I did that. Now when I try to Odin, Im no longer able to get the phone to the download screen. I was able to re root with the One Click Root and that worked but I still can not access Clockwork recover or the Download mode or anything to get a ROM on. I guess Im just not doing something or Im a noob idiot. That being said... call my an idiot and walk me through to fix this mess.
Thank you in advance
To get back to download mode try to
1.take off battery
2.run odin as administrator
3.plug in usb cable
4.hold the volume keys and while you are holding them plug back the battery

From any screen hold pwr button and vol up and vol down....keep holding untill you see the vibrant boot screen then release all at the same time. That will rake you to recovery if the reinstall pkgs option is there just click it. You may have to do this twice in order to get into clockwork recovery. Do this with the phone unplugged. hope this helps

First questions in question section. Second when on the blue screen go to reinstall packages that will take you to the green recovery screen. You may have to click reinstall a second time. Third the easiest way to download is to make sure your phone is off. Plug usb into phone only. Press and hold both volume buttons while still holding them plug other end of usb into computer.

The way I get to recovery is with the phone off I
1.hold down volume up and down also the power button
2.when you see the vibrant screen keep holding all thee
3.you will c the vibrant screen one more time when you do stop holding power but keep holding the volume keys
4.then hit reinstall packages...you might have to hit it more than once

Easiest way, after you have odin'd back to stock and rooted your phone.
Download the app Rom Manager for the market.
The first thing you need to do once Rom Manger is installed is copy the rom you want to flash to your internal SD card.
Then Start Rom Manger.
The first time you use Rom Manager is select the top menu item "Flash ColockworkMod Recover" and select your phone in this case I am assuming "Samsung Vibrant"
After the flash completes select "Install Rom from SD card".
It is fairly self explanatory from there.
Good luck.
Ok first, as stated before questions go in QA section no development.
to access CWM Recovery you may have to keep the update.zip file in internal SD card root
Odin is different
power off the phone, pressing volume up+down at the same time (don't touch power or you will keep going into recovery) until you get on download mode. (different than recovery).
Plug USB, ready to odin
When ODIN back to original, be SURE to check Re Partition and load the pit and phone files.

Thank you Dave! I was using Rom Manager with failed attempt, however Im game for another try. As soon as I get back to stock, I will give it another go. Cross your digits!
I do not know why this is so difficult now. I got back to an unwanted factory rom. I rooted the phone, put the new rom on the internal mem card. Downloaded Rom Manager. Installed Clockwork. Selected Install ROM from sdcard. Selected the rom and it rebooted to the original recovery (blue and yellow). No signs of Clockwork recovery (green). Now I have a rooted phone with an umwanted fatory rom and can install any other rom on it.
This sounds like a problem I was having for awhile. After installing clockwork mod it would only reboot to the standard recovery screen. I had to install update.zip again from this screen several times and eventually it stopped asking me for this step and started to boot clockwork mod properly.

Just keep your CWM update.zip file in the root of the internal SD Card
Now if you installed Froyo leaked rom stock, and the Recovery now on top says 3einstead of 2e, then you need to fix that, look for the thread to convert 3e to 2e otherwise CWM won't work anymore. you need to be rooted and have root explorer or know how to use either adb or terminal

Well.... I have no idea what I did but it is now working. I tried everyones suggestions so Im unsure what did what. I want to thank everyone for their help and quick response's. I was actually expecting to get bashed about searching and being a noob etc. After seeing some of the other posts, Im surprised I didn't. Thanks again for making it easy to reply and explain what I was doing and what was going on. I have a new outlook about XDA.

Hi,
I have a vibrant and when I was trying to change the ROM back to what I had previously, the phone got stuck, I can reboot to the recovery mode but that is not helping, I tried everything. Can someone assist me with this?
Thanks
Could you be a little more specific.
Try getting into download mode. Then you can use odin to go back to jfd then ji6, or one of the froyo roms. Look in the bible sticky up top for odin flashable roms.
To get into download mode.
Pull the battery, put it back in. hold the up and down volume buttons. Do not touch the power button. Then plug the usb into the phone.
Next time this should be in q and a section.

Please tell us what rom are you downgrading from.
Did you have voodoo or any other lagfix enabled?
Recovery you get access to is 2e or 3e?
Are you able to get into download mode to odin back to shipping stock if necessary?

I have to send my vibrant in for warranty and would like to flash back to stock before I do that because I think tmobile would find it funny and not warranty a phone with a custom rom. One problem, when I flashed CM7 in never backed up stock so i cant restore to stock Froyo. Any suggestions? I am not a novice with flashing so simple would be excellent fit
making a backup really wouldn't have helped anyway.
first, you need to read the FAQ in both the dev thread and the cm7 q&a thread for the vibrant because your answer about going back to stock is located in there (i promise you it is, you just need to read it).
the process involves using odin and th JFD build.
edit: i should probably mention that it is located in the first post in each thread.
I would recommend this: download the AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5 since it have all the files and instructions you need to go back to stock...except maybe if your phone doesn't want to go into download mode the usual way, but there are tons of threads of going into download mode around here, just search 2 or 3 pages back (in fact, there is one i myself created, its on page 3 or 4 i believe.)
Good luck!
if toolbox doesnt work for u u can always go back to stock 2.1 with odin!
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
enjoy and also make sure u have proper samsung drivers
Thank you guys very much for all the info. I will try this when i get home
