Mini Kies installs the Official OTA JI6
to be honest i dont know. but based on my g1, no. because i did a manual update to get version 1.6 and i never got the notification stating that i had a new update. this makes sense because why would the system inform of an update you already have. and from what i am reading the kies mini is the official update, so you should be fine. i am waiting on the OTA just in case since the last update samsung did was not the right one from what tmobile stated is that true i dont know. but i am only going to wait till the end of today then i am going to do it manually.
Who go notified by "phone" about the update?

SEARCH is your friend.
Doesn't matter anyways. It can be installed on any phone.
My phone finds a software update. I'm afraid to do it because it will break root or lock the bootloader or something.
Is there any resources that shows me what all the official updates do?

My phone says "Current software is up to date".

you're probably seeing the market updates, not the phone.

Lmao you think I don't know the different between clicking market and clicking settings, scrolling all the way to the bottom, clicking software update, and clicking the confirm ok button?
I do not have down syndrome.
Also, I can't check for updates now because I am debloated and zip aligned so it wont find any, just tried.
My question still stands. Is there a resource that will show us what the official updates do?

AT&T will put out a update announcement with change logs. Since there isn't any official announcement, we don't know what it is until someone applied it. And if you're rooted and made some changes, I'd be very careful about accepting any OTA updates. First OTA update for Captivate bricked a lot of rooted phones (and some stock, non-rooted phone as well).
I can confirm with the OP that yes indeed this morning I hit the Check for software updates and it gave me that an update is available but servers are busy now try again.
Weird. No update available on my end. Yet.

I just checked the software update and it gave the message along the following lines
"Communication Failed:
There is an update available for your phone but the software servers are busy. The phone will try to contact the server again"
if you try again it says "Current software is up to date. You may check again in 23hrs 59mins"
I wonder if this is a small update that fixes the password lockscreen issue?

I forgot about the password lock bug. This may be the update for it.

Probably is the fix for lock screen bug. The update does not always show up for all phones. It is rolling out in batches. You can try cleanup the cache data for the update app and try again. At least, that's how we did it in the past with Captivate.

might have bricked some stock phones but never installed on my captivate after rooting it. It would get to 50% and fail. That is why I refuse to do ota updates, safer either Odin or CWM or Kies but ota I dont ever trust lol

I am on 45.3.5 and I'm rooted, is there any way to manually push the OTA?

I'm also having the same problem... Only I'm running a mac so that link is worthless to me.

Update via wifi. It will show right up
Not quite... I downloaded it and tried but the update fails. Can't figure out how to get the detailed error message people have shared about it.

Go back to build 154_5 by flashing via RSD and try updating again.

When it gets to the Android guy and progress bar hold down both volume up and down at same time.
Just an FYI....according to the Motorola Forums there is an issue with the latest update which isn't allowing some to take it successfully, even if unrooted/stock. Sounds like there is a fix in the works. Best bet is to either do the SBF or flash to older stock and try the to take the update.
**Edit.....tried flashing to Juggs update.zip (154_5) and still couldn't take the pushed update which tells me there might be something wrong on Moto's end. Anyways, gonna SBF to 154_5 just to make sure and then try again. If official doesn't take gonna SBF to newest version (same thing anyways).
**Edit #2...SBF'd back to 154_5. Was able to take both updates pushed to the phone successfully and am now on 198_6.
Thanks CCallahan, glad someone knows what they're talking about. I guess I will have to wait for the next one, don't want to fuss with ROM flashing.

My phone had an update on it this morning that took about 10 minutes to install so I'm assuming it was a big one.
Can anyone tell me what this update contained??
They should give a link after an update to show you whats new or whats been tweeked.
Alan
Actually, Samsung never do that, so you have to figure out yourself...
