Mini Kies installs the Official OTA JI6
to be honest i dont know. but based on my g1, no. because i did a manual update to get version 1.6 and i never got the notification stating that i had a new update. this makes sense because why would the system inform of an update you already have. and from what i am reading the kies mini is the official update, so you should be fine. i am waiting on the OTA just in case since the last update samsung did was not the right one from what tmobile stated is that true i dont know. but i am only going to wait till the end of today then i am going to do it manually.
I have an older version of Kies installed (1.5.3.10092_2_1, with US and US English selected at install). Didn't need it for the tethering intended, so it was unused.
Anyway, bored and on connection tonite I clicked the phone update button and the program responded that a firmware update was available.
Ideas: What would that be? I'm on the standard T-Mobile 2.1 update 1 release.

There's been a lot in the press last few days about a security vulnerability in android.
This is fixed in 2.3.4 anyone know a, when we'll see this (I know its been in cm7 a while now) or b, if we can apply it manually? (And I suppose c, will it break root)

Google is rolling out a server side patch.
So all versions of Android should be fine, when they are done.
Google have implemented a server side fix, so devices wont require an update.

They have already fixed mostly used services. I think the only major outstanding one is Picassaweb.

What is the verdict on the 2.3.4 upgrade?
I am seeing people having problems. My phone is important to my business, so cannot risk bricking it.
I am not rooted or unlocked, so pretty much stock.
Suggestions?

I was rooted and on 2.2 froyo. For a while. Then switched over to gingerblur, and then saw that gingerbread ota was hitting so I flashed back to stock 1.8.3 and did the ota update. Point? You'll be fine, especially if yer stock now. Oh and also, the preinstall method discussed in dev thread DOES work well with 2.3.4

If your phone is stock, i.e. no mods at all, you will be fine. The OTA is designed to upgrade only on a stock phone running 4.1.83.
Upgraded three Atrix phones to 2.3.4, went fine on all three.
On my phone, it did mess up the icons on my home screens.

Im an x10a user, im losing hope, could someone whose carrier uses 850 3g band tell me if they have succesfully flashed x10i update on x10a and and its working? Only those who use this band for internet
