Hi Everyone,
im wondering why in the most roms - the accuracy (resolution / depth) of MyLocation service quite low is. I mean - not in google maps (this works perfect), but in the Weather Application. The Weather application could detect only city 50km far away from my home town. But I have tried around 2 or 3 roms, where was the city detection outstanding! Not only my home town has been detected, but it could detect also very small villages while traveling... Unfortunately I was not satisfied with these ROMs and would like to modify my current ROM (TaKo 5.6).
Does anybody know, how to increase or set the depth / accuracy level of MyLocation service respectively the Weather app?
Of course, when I modify the weather database and add my hometown - it works. But I would like to let the phone to autodetect my location.
Any Ideas? Maby rewriting some manila file from the other roms?
Thx for help and sorry for long post

I've been dooing some tests recently while I was for few days in Germany and myLocation was working perfect. I was able to detect even small villages and download weather. As soon as I returned home to Czech Republic I'm only able to detect nearest city 50km away... any ideas?
It is not your phone. It is all based on if there is a location beacon brodcasting that are you are in. otherwise the phone will pick the closest it can find. Where I live it can pick up the one down the road at the school. But where I work it only list the county. It cannot find the city. Also i do believe you have to have your weather set to download when roaming to get locations other then your home.
maybe it is also issue of your mobile operator - I tried one android ROM on orange sim card which detects even parts of town. And in my ROM with O2 i can only get that I am in Slovakia

I just thought I'd warn people of this:
1) I got CoPilot 6 from T-Mobile UK with a 2 year traffic subscription. On upgrading to CoPilot 7 this no longer works, and ALK have said they will not give me a license key to make it work. I think this is pretty appalling. Their reasoning is that I bought the subscription from T-Mobile, not directly from them.
2) The Live part of the service does not work - it is not possible to login from the mobile. Also the screens are "corrupted" for setting wireless connection. See attached screenshot.
How can a product called CoPilot 7 Live not have been tested to see that the Live bit works!!!!!!! ALK acknowledge that it is a known problem, but had no target fix date.
It's a shame because it finally works on VGA displays (as opposed to their promises for CoPilot 6 which did not work at all well on VGA, particularly the Driver Safety view)
I have asked for a refund.
ALK have now offered me a half price upgrade to the Traffic subscription too.
It's not ideal, but it's a nice gesture from them.
Also I can't fault their customer support, who have been extremely responsive and unfailingly polite even when I was being a little rude because of my annoyance with the situation.
So I now have:
- VGA where this didn't really work well in CoPilot6
- Traffic which didn't work 100% in CoPilot6 - certain screens would lock the device up.
- On the downside I don't have access to Live functionality.
Two steps forward and one back is progress, and I'm sure they'll get to the bottom of the problem with Live eventually.
Hi cjwilber
What's your problem with Live?
I had problems with people not being able to track me online with older Betas but in the final Beta everything worked fine.

The problem is that it just doesn't log in. You don't actually get told it's failed to login, but when you go to look at the wireless settings you get the screen shown in the jpeg I attached rather than the one that is shown in ALK's "How-to" document.
How do you get to that screen? I can't replicate it at all!

I've been away all week and had uninstalled CoPilot ready to return. When I install again tomorrow, I'll explain exactly how I get to that screen.

I can't get to that screen now! The only difference from when it wouldn't work is that I now have a traffic license enabled. For the record I tried several times previously, including full rebuild of ROM to get back to a clean base
ROM UPGRADE WIN MOBILE 5 TO 6
If planning to continue to use your copy of CoPilot 6 after upgrading your ROM please note the following:
You must deactivate CoPilot 6 before attempting to upgrade your ROM as detailed below. Unlike under Windows Mobile 5, CoPilot 6 will not automatically be installed when running Windows Mobile 6. You will need to set-up manually as detailed below. Once deactivated you will need to reactivate your CoPilot software.
CoPilot Live 6 Deactivation instructions before applying ROM update
1. Run CoPilot Live on the Pocket PC
2. Tap Menu > Options > Licensing
3. Select ""Deactivate"" and record the Deactivation Code
4. On your internet enabled Desktop computer, go to http://activate.alk.com/deactivate
5. Enter your CoPilot product key code (25 digits) and Deactivation Code (from the web site above in step 4) and click ""Submit""
CoPilot Live 6 Manual Activation instructions
On inserting the CoPilot quickstart SD card, CoPilot will not auto run to start installation on Windows Mobile 6 and you must follow the steps below to install.
Tap: Start > Program > File Explorer
Browse to the Storage Card
Tap on the ‘2577’ folder
And Select ‘Autorun’
CoPilot Live 6 Activation instructions
Your T-Mobile GPRS settings will be automatically installed when you upgrade the ROM which means you can activate your CoPilot license using your Mobile Web connection.
Ensure you have your T-Mobile SIM inserted into your device.
Start CoPilot - Start > Program > CoPilot
Enter your original CoPilot product key code (25 digits) when requested then tap ‘Next’.
Enter your email address and tap ‘Next’. (If you do not have an email address you can enter [email protected])
Your device will now connect to the internet and will start the ‘Automatic activation’ using your mobile web connection
Press ‘Finish’ and confirm the map region you wish to activate. Select ‘United Kingdom’ from the list and tap ‘OK’
Traffic problems
I'm now having problems with traffic subscription. It successfully connects and finds traffic, butu when selecting the option to avoid the traffic - kind of the point of the facility really - the program shows a map of where the traffic is, but with no way of exiting that map. See attachment.
I have an outstanding call with ALK since 30/11 about this, but so far they haven't responded. To be fair they usually respond far quicker than that, so we'll see what happens this week.

Apparently the answer is to run it in portrait mode rather than landscape mode. A patch is expected sometime to fix this, but no date given yet.
I do find it suprising that the two faults I have were not picked up in testing:
1) Live only works if you have a Traffic subscription
2) Traffic only routes around traffic if you're in portrait mode.
CoPilot7 issue with WM6 and MS Voice Command
I have an Xda Orbit that I’ve upgraded from WM5 to WM6 - definite speed and stability improvements.
I use Microsoft VoiceCommannd 1.6 and this lost its ability to announce the names/numbers of incoming callers after the WM6 upgrade though I have now fixed this.
I also got CoPilot Live 7 and installed this but it is unusable - it slows down the Orbit to a snail’s pace and seems to take so much resource (processing power?) that Voice Command fails to understand EVERY spoken instruction. If I close CoPilot7 completely then Voice Command works again fine.
Has anyone else had this problem?
By the way, CoPilot 6 ran fine with my Xda/WM6/Voice Command and had no speed/resource problems - Voice Command ran fine.
For me, a pocket PC phone without MS Voice Command is like a Ferrrari with no engine - nice to look at but next to useless!
Help please ….
Thanks
There are issues with voice command and WM6, these might be made worse by CP7 but are not the fault of CP7.
The reason no one picked up on Live not working with Traffic on the Beta was that we all had a traffic licence.... maybe that was a mistake.
I know that I had traffic diversion working in landscape mode but will have to test again. Maybe it's only in certain circumstances it doesn't work in landscape mode?
Hey,
Copilot 7 with traffic does not work in landscape mode.
Since buy this and buying the traffic subscription I've had some much trouble.
I told Copilot technical about the problem after severly phone call I was told to use the unit in portrait mode because traffic has a problem in landscape mode.
I ask them if they well retify the problem the answer was No use it in Portrait mode.
The software is not that good you cannot add POI when you are driving down the road.
You cannot add POI to the software.

Maybe I've misunderstood you, but it's the other way around: Live doesn't work UNLESS you have Traffic subscription.
Traffic diversion refused across repeated installs to work for me in Landscape mode. I switched to Portrait mode on the advice of the extremely helpful tech support and it worked fine. Interestingly, since then I have been able to use it in Landscape mode too.
Hi Guys,
I've a question.
I understand that Copilot 7 works in VGA devices, but does it work in both 128 dpi and 96 dpi mode? My iGO MyWay works on VGA devices, but only if it is in 192 dpi mode.
Thanks for your info. Could someone post some screen shots in both these modes?

It works using RealVGA in any mode you care to try. There is no need for screen shots as it looks exactly the same regardless i.e. the icons are the same size, the menus are the same size, the positioning is the same, etc.

That's what I mean, on the Beta we all had Traffic so it probably wasn't tested by anyone without traffic so it worked.
Glad it now works inm landscape for you!
hello
did any one manage to get it working?

It works, but with some limitations.
It seems that Live only works if you have a Traffic subscription.
And traffic only works properly if you run in landscape mode.

Has anyone gotten the Google Gears "My location" API to work. It keeps
coming back as unavailable.
This is on DCD 3.2.6 & Radio 3.42.50
Maps, Live and TomTom all work fine.
I've been having the same problem, default ROM w/ WM 6.1... No matter what I do it comes up as unavailable. Sprint Nav, Google Maps, GPSToday, and other GPS related apps work just fine though
I believe that it's simply a Google problem..where for some reason, our device isn't supported
if you have a gps lock, select use gps. if you move around the map to say, look ahead in your directions, then hit mylocation it will take you back to your gps point. that's all it will do for me on my titan.
Are you on Verizon? Where am I uses cell towers by default which Verizon blocks. However, as said earlier, if you get a gps lock and then choose where am I it seems to use the GPS. I have seen people on other carriers use it but never a Verizon phone of any kind.
Yea the carrier has nothing to do with my location, however, I can tell you that my location with the titan does not work, though I don't know why anyone with one would be using my location when you have gps capabilities. I had to go through a lot to get it to work on one of my buddy's shadow and it really isn't accurate enough for directions. On my other friends verizon blackjack it works a little better but not very good. If you were ridiculously lost in a good size city it could help but rural and navigation I don't think it would do you any good. Each time I didn't I had to read the blog on my location beta and there were unlockers I had to download.
So to sum up: If you have a titan unlock the gps one chip and go about your business.
Isn't the Blackjack a GSM device (not Verizon)?
When I first got my phone it used to detect which village I was in not just the city. I had to do a factory reset and now it's stopped detecting the villages. Why? and can I get it back? If so how?
Please help.
Maybe because of the time-bug.

enable htc location services on your phone
All the location bits are enabled and as far as I know and can tell all are working the way they should.
ive put on this fix but my weather is still only showing the city and not the village like it used too.
open up quickgps and update satellite position
ive done that as well but nothing seems to be working.

i too was having this problem till today and now it sort of seems to be solved:
at this point i have done everything (just like you) mentioned in the thread. my weather panel shows my location as my state rather than my city!
case 1:
i further opened up the clock (by tapping on the flip clock on the home tab) and saw only 1 clock. it was called 'my location' and had everything set up correctly. my current location is mumbai. so i explicitly added another clock (mumbai) by doing add city. now i have two clocks - 'my location' and 'mumbai'. but the interesting thing is that the second clock (mumbai) has a local written in brackets next to it. it seems that HERE the phone detected mumbai as my local city. now when i do a weather update i get 2 updates - one for each of my clocks (both sets of information are identical because both locations are identical!). and since my mumbai clock is selected as primary, i also see mumbai on the flip clock as my location (and i suppose the corresponding weather data, i really cant differentiate).
case 2:
when i have only one clock 'my location', and i do a weather update, the weather panel updates the 'my location' tag to my state's name which (given the size of my state) is of no help at all. this, however, did not happen in the case described above. the 'my location' remained the same.
i wonder if the first method solves your problem. its not really any solution at all. its stupid that the phone should detect my location in the clock program but not on the weather update panel. also i tested gps reception while all this was going on. i had google maps running in the back with 6-8 satellites locked when i did my weather updates in both cases. that didnt help. plus, like i said before as well, i had htc locaton services enabled and updated satellite data via google maps.
its one of those things that i really cant figure out and so have stopped bothering. where i live, the weather hardly changes anyway...
Hi,
same probleme here....
It only tells me the State, not the Village
nothing helps.....
HTC Support told me to flash and reset the device twice (HaHa Ive done this before)
Ive had this problem for a few months now, constant emails to HTC gets either there is no known problem or we are currently working to resolve the issue. Like they will actually care now wp7 is out.
Its a joke, first of all the weather stopped working an now the clock doesnt work as it should, slowly but surly things are stopping functioning correctly, wheres my old nokia 6680.
Rant over.
yeah see my problem wit the reset is that seems to have been when my problem started. i have the 2 clocks and the two weather pages but both say peterborough (city) when one used to say peterborough and the other used to change and say yaxley (village)
The issue with my location showing only state weather instead of village weather started with the winter time change bug.
The patch posted above ( see link ) solved the time problem but not the weather location problem. In another thread it was said HTC will issue a fix in one week, but this is now 4 weeks ago and still no patch issued.
If they don't solve this problem this was my last HTC. phone .........
Same problem for me in Italy with hd2. It's one week that the service doesn't work. It shows me Lombardia (region) instead Milano (city)...

ho notato che dipende dalla località dove ti trovi. Dove abito funziona, ma in alcuni paesi mi esce scritto 'italy' come location!
Ma già da qualche tempo...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I noticed that depends on the location where you are. Where I live it works, but in some countries I get says 'Italy' as a location!
But for some time ...
HTC Support now told me to took a Video with a camera, whowing the Problem on HD2 (also wan't a Video from my Reset Operation )
What are they thinking, I'm so stupid that I can't to a reset on my HD2?
now one week after uploading the video no response from support. I wrote them again yesterday, maybe they'll answer this week....
I bought a Malata Zpad in China, because I live here.... It is a tablet with 3G and GPS. Overall it's working out of the box.
3G is only working if the ROM "understands" Chinese. So I did not changed the ROM.
Two major things are not working:
- No Android Market,
- No GPS.
For the Market I did the modification of the build.prop as described here in the forums and downloaded the com.android.vending_2.2.6.apk (I also tried other versions with the same result).
If I start the app for the Android Market, it starts and shows a white screen for 5-10 s then it crashes.
Other users outside of China describe the same problem, but there is no clear solution for that.
It is known that the Market is blocked by the "Great Firewall" in China.
I found a workaround (put in the IP-Address for android.clients.google.com in the Hosts but prior find out "local" IP address from PC via nslookup).
This workaround is not working for me so far, but I am not sure if the software is OK...
Is the "White screen" the blocking from the "Great Firewall" or is that a Software Problem?
Does anyone have an idea for that?
The GPS don't work. I installed the Google Maps application as well as GPStest. They are trying to get the position but it doesn't work. GPStest tells that the signal is OK but not so strong (yellow). It cannot get the satellite anyway.
The same thing for Goggle Maps. If I use the Goggle maps application and activate local position, it tells me after about 30s that it is unable to get the position for the moment. On the Goggle Navigation app, it tries to find the position for very long time without stop.
The GPS symbol never occur on the tablet.
Navigation is also not working with my SIM card installed, based on network position.
Later I found in the gps.conf file, that there are no parameters in!
I tryed to edit gps.conf by writing in the Chinese Time-Server. For the other parameters I changed to the default values from Google. This values were written as a comment in the gps.conf itself.
The editing of the gps.conf has not solved the problem nore changed the behavior of the programs.
Does anyone have an idea how to make GPS navigation work on a Android here in China?
So does anyone have the parameters for GPS.conf for China?
Thank You very much.
I am sorry to hear that, According to your words, your tablet pc has not the GPS function.
Make GPS navigation work, you could choose an external 3G model.
Hope help you.
Hi everyone, sorry for my english.
Recently I flash my S3 with the Resurrection Remix LP v5.5.9 (with android 5.1.1), for playing pokemon go (hehe)... but the gps shows a bad position, and when I move the position pointer (pokemon, google maps, google earth) doesn't move.
I will appreciated if anyone can tell me how fix it. Thanks in advance.
PS: I´m very noob on this.
Are you sure that you've got a fix? I have the very same behaviour on different phone because I have ****ty GPS module and it rarely catches a good fix. The 'bad position' is probably what you get from triangulating BTS'es and Wifi networks. It doesn't move because these two methods usually have low accuracy. Maybe it is enough to wait until you catch a fix. When you're trying to catch the GPS signal the first time with a particular device, it may take much longer than afterwards, even more than an hour. You may try to go to some open area with open sky on a sunny day, and wait patiently until your location gets fixed. After it catches fix, next attempts should be much faster. This is a usual way to do it with all GPS devices. See if it works for you.
If you don't understand the last sentence: your phone can figure out its position based on GPS (the most accurate option), but also based on its location in relation to telecommunication emitters (so called BTSes) and by checking which Wifi networks are available in the area (Google scans wifi networks globally and saves their positions, so the phone can check location by asking Google servers where the wifi networks it sees are located).
