[Q] Why update baseband? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running FreeX10 B3H1, I see that B4 is out and all it apears to do is add support for the new Baseband... is there any notice improvements with the updated baseband?
I'm also not entirely sure what the baseband does

The baseband is the radio of the phone, so basically it controls your call quality, signal, mobile network, etc..
As fire why to upgrade, I can honestly say I haven't noticed any real benefits since I updated. However, as time progresses newer roms are going to be based on this version so if you want to keep flashing custom roms eventually you will have to upgrade anyway..

Hi,
I attempted to install Beta 4 last night (first time installing FreeX10). But now it is in a non stop reboot cycle and will not get any signal. It stays on for about a minute and then reboots everytime. Having read more on this I think it could be Baseband related. When I check the settings it says Baseband is unknown.
Can I upgrade my Firmware to X10a_2_1_A_0_435_GLOBAL in order to get the correct Baseband and then reinstall FreeX10? And if so, Can I use Flashtool to install X10a_2_1_A_0_435_GLOBAL without issues?
(My phone is an X10i by the way, should I use a different Firmware before re-installing FreeX10B4?)
Thanks in advance!
Dave

hey, for d "unknown baseband" problem u have to wait for d auto reboot after d 1st boot..only then d baseband and network will appear..
and for d boot loop problem-u will need to update to d .435 firmware (.52 baseband and .29 kernels)..or if u want to keep d old firmware install beta3..(beta 4 is only for .435 firmware)
happy flashing bro.

Reflash to the new baseband , root it and install Xrecovery and proceet to install your favorite rom. I would suggest making your own with this

PS: This works with new baseband and Beta 4 rom of Z
Cheers.
Have fun flashing and creating your custom roms

Installed Free X10 without any problem.

You gotta make sure you update to 435 before installing freex10 beta 4 to get all benefits...

[Q] Steve.Adams baseband update

I have no problem with using the flashtool, downloading the sin file, etc. But the step that says DO NOT let it boot and immediately go into xrecovery is what worries me. I love trying all the new ROMs, but am still always go back to a custom 2.1 because of the cam/videocam, plus no stereo bluetooth dropouts.
My question is, after I do this to update the baseband and flash 2.2 Beta 4 via xrecovery. Can I go back to my old custom 2.1 with older baseband via xrecovery and then switch back and forth via xrecovery afterward? I just don't feel like flashing the entire firmware, rooting, adding JIT v2, then removing all of the SE apps AGAIN for like the 10th time.
u can install any rom on .435 firmware..
u cant install beta 4 on any lower firmware(.24,etc)..
so update to .435 and stay..
happy flashing

Im not entirely sure thats true because it seemed that those with the newer baseband seemed to be having issues with other roms prior to z's beta 4... can someone confirm?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
its mentioned clearly in z's post about using the latest base band. as for Steve's recommendation of not letting it boot, i guess i must have missed it when i upgraded the base band while on 2.1 customised, but the only worst thing that happened was i didn't got any signal on my phone, everything else worked fine, it didn't mattered coz i was to install free x10 v4. and its a fine job done by z. the ROM is great. add green glow theme on it, and nothing's like it.
about xrecovery backup able to change your base band back with restore, i haven't tried it myself, i guess xrecovery devs will be the best guys to check if you're not sure.

After root , my phone cannot detect phone line ( No service)

Lol you flashed a custom rom before you even knew how to check fw and bb version?
Like the others said, you probably need to apply a bb patch. Most custom roms state which bb they are for, did you read the information supplied by the roms cook?
Sent via subspace beacon.
but wait .
now my problem is my phone is currently stuck at opening screen ( Sony Ericsson )
how to solve it ?
*try to not make new thread
Goto the Dev tools app in your app drawer.
Click on bad behaviour then choose crash system server..
If that doesnt work goto
settings
about phone
and check the baseband version.
Make sure it is compatable with the rom you are on.
The opening page (OP) of the rom you downloaded will have the compatable basebands for that rom, or links where you can find them.
this happen if u change room and you`re not in currect bb or you didnt Crash system server when you instal a new room

Asip, for any of us to be helpful, we do need to know as much as possible on your situation:
- What ROM did you flash
- What baseband are you on
- Did you lose signal right after you rooted (would be strange) or only when you installed the new ROM (more likely)?
FYI, the "Baseband" is the piece of software which handles radio and similar functions on your phone. Not all ROMs are compatible with all versions of basebands.
To find out which version of baseband, ROM, etc.. you are using, you need to go into the Settings Menu and select the "about phone" option. Where this is will depend on which ROM you are using.
For the X10, rendeiro2005 has collected all currently known basebands. It can be found at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960527&highlight=baseband+collection
In all probability, if loss of signal is all you are having, then you will have to flash a baseband compatible with your ROM/version. You may have to reflash the ROM too.
Hope this helps
^Sorry about that
okay . for now i trying to flash baseband (mine is 2.1.54)
but the problem is the flash wont finished [ it stuck at the last message which is ('Installed version of busybox:Busybox v1.15.3(Date-Time-CET)multi call binary" ) ]
is it already flashed or what?since im doing this only to try flashing . if this is perfectly done then im proceed to another things .
about lost signal , it already solved as i misread the baseband compatibilty with the custom rom .
thanks

What version of the flash tool are you using? Have you tried to reflash?
It would appear that the flash tool is unable to acquire root, but it should then give you a warning/error if this is the case.

X10i restart problem after installing a custom rom

Hi
My X10i keep restarting 10 - 30 seconds after boot after installing custom roms. I've tried three roms already via xrecovery, the rom appears to install but the phone constantly loops ( restarts) after the given time above.
Any help or info regarding this would be appreciated.

Hi man i had this same issue.
Just leave the device to reboot a few times.
after the 10th time it should stabilize.
If it doesn't re-flash the rom.
What Baseband are you on?
Hi,
I have been having this same issue since i installed custom rom using xRecovery.
each time i restore my default SE backup, it doesn't restart and everything works well again. I have tried about 4 different roms. please help!!!
Baseband: 2.1.45
Firmware: 2.1 -update1
Build number: 2.1.A.0.435
I need help.
The vast majority of custom ROMs for X10 available here require a specific baseband. For instance, J's CM7 requires .52 baseband to run correctly.
Which custom ROM are you trying to run?
many roms need some reboot after install, its normal
Lol...just attach to seus to get the latest firmware/baseband and your troubles will disppear.
Yes, certain roms need a certain baseband...not sure i have seen any recent ones here that will work with 45 though...
Most need either 52, or 54+
Thats your problem

Here you find both Basebands (New and Old) and also a guide to change them.
And also there is a Search button on the page which gives you alnost ALL answers
OLD BASEBAND: V10X, only for use with ROMs based on Froyo or unofficial CM.
NEW BASEBAND[: V20X, only for use with ROMs based on Gingerbread or official CM.
You can change this using LGMDP but I prefer use KDZ Firmware Updater (but you need to root and install recovery each time).
If you flash any ROM without the right baseband you haven't GSM and/or data connectivity.

[Q] Is my baseband old???

Hi guys, first, my native language is spanish, so, be patient with me , Ill try to be clear hehe
Well, I have a Xperia U (ST25a) it had a baseband with termination in 9, but one day when I decided to install the last rom available for the ST25a i noticed that the baseband changed from EC09 to EC01 (now is P2H_EC01), so, here is my question, Can this little change do a mess with my Inernet conection? The 3G signal seems fine, and the browser works good but its IMPOSSIBLE to update or download any app from the Play Store!, I did a few things thinking that maybe was my version of Play Store but it only works when i connect it to Wi-Fi, any ideas?, Last night i installed the rom 89 (pirej debranded one) but the problem persist...could be a problem of my operator???

st25a and st25i have different basebands. The .89 version if am not wrong is for st25i version. So i think you have to flash st25a baseband. Take a backup and try this one http://d-h.st/ON8. Hope works. But remember to take a backup in case something goes wrong buddy.
Thanks, but i've 2 questions
1:I just have to flash by flashtool?
":How I can do a backup of my current baseband?
Thanks again

De nada!
1) No. You have to flash via cwm. Do you know how to do it?
2) Via flashtool from the rom you are currently using flash only baseband. Don't know if you can restore but i am sure you can flash baseband,
