Hi, I am newbie. I use X10i (eclair), and I have some issues:
1. Is it right X10i doesn't has flash player cos' I can't open web that requires flash player. If it has, then what supposed to be the problem? Should I upgrade it? How?
2. I use app 'Quick Boot' cos' I want to reduce the using of manual button for shutting down. When I want to use it, it says that 'requires root access'. What does 'root access' mean? How can I manage it?
3. Does this phone has auto turn on/off phone? If it doesn't, do you guys has an advice 'bout shut down app or auto on/off phone app that doesn't require root access?!
Need help guys... Thanks b4.

Hey guys, for some reason my HK X10i won't shut off the camera sound, even in silent mode. It doesn't even give me the option to shut it when I was choosing the sound effects for the shutter. It shows sound1, sound2, sound3, and that's it. Is there a way to stop the shutter sound?
Hmm, mine has:
Sound 1
Sound 2
Sound 3
Off
But mine doesn't... I was wondering if it's the HK firmware's fault?

In Hong Kong, which I'm assuming it's the same as Japan, silent phone camera shutters are considered illegal, to prevent train perverts from taking upskirt pictures ect.
LMAO! I never thought of those pervs. So is there a solution to getting rid of it?
Yes, rooting your phone will let you enable the "off" option.

No, I figured, that... Just letting you know it doesn't appear somewhere else...
Seeing that there are tons of firmwares out, which one should I root to? Does it affect the SEUS automatic update process? What are the risks of rooting?
I have a UK phone and on the stock camera there is no option to turn the shutter sound off. I also have the Vignette app from the market and that gives you the option to turn it off. So rather than rooting, how about try an app first?
I have it too, but it still won't shut up.
Edit: Also, which version would enable the "auto SMS/MMS setting?"
I tried turning off the shutter sound in Vignette but it still makes noise (UK)

UK GENERIC has no shutter sound option
I apologise to you for the misleading infor I was at work yesterday and didn't play around to see if the Vignette sound actually turned it off I just knew that I'd seen it on there. Tried it today and you are absolutely right, it doesn't turn it off.
Note to self... check it out before you spout it out. Sorry!

To clarify. UK generic has, a no shutter sound option. (Grammar goes a long way).
Go to camera -> press menu -> advanced settings -> shutter sound -> press off.
@twentybenson
to make the shutter sound on UK Xperia X10i mute, you can do:
1. allow installation of applications from unknown sources;
2. install and run UniversalAndroot.apk to root your phone (whatever it is locked to a mobile network or unlocked);
3. install and run Root_Explorer_v2.10.apk;
4. allow Root Explorer root access by SuperUser;
5. go to folder /system/media/audio/camera and ensure that folder is "rw" (read and write) and not "ro" (read only) by checking on top of Root Explorer (click on the right hand button to switch mode);
6. change sound files in sound1, sound2 and sound3 folders. It is suggested to use the no_sound.ogg file available in the sound0 folder and copying it across the other sound folders to replace the existing audio files but keeping their original name to ensure the andoid system does not crash;
7. exit Root Explorer and check that the sound is mute on the camera now;
8. uninstall Root Explorer;
9. unroot your mobile using Universal Androot (it will remove Super User application);
10. uninstall Universal Androot.
you can find UniversalAndroot.apk and Root_Explorer_v2.10.apk in the following package:
rapidshare.com/files/416177666/NoSoundPack.zip
MD5: 76BABE2867C994E4B69DB11F093230A4
not all the firmwares allow the camera shutter to be turned off, when i was on HK024 firmware that option was not available, but now on Generic026 firmware i have the option to turn the shutter sound off
You gotta debrand to some other firmware around the world.
HK has a law that there must be a shutter sound on all phones so that people dont take pictures of random people and post em on the interwebs... or some other intention.

Anyone know of a good free reboot app that doesnt requre a rooted device. Preferably just a button on the home screen that i press.
Any reccomendations?

I have been looking for something similar myself but haven't found anything other than a task-killer which doesn't really re-start.
I've been using fast reboot which seems to work OK.....I think, it doesn't actually reboot the phone like, its more like a complete task killer that kills almost everything (including some of the core stuff) and freshes the phone, I get about most of my ram freed up (240mb) and the phone starts to run smooth again, but sometimes I still prefer to do a manual power down and up again.
switch pro has a reboot button on there widget, think it might need root tho for any reboot app to work

Yeah, it works great but needs root. With Universal Androot it is so easy to root, plus you can use Barnacle Wifi Tether (You have to find the .apk as its blocked in the market on Att 1.6.
extended controls has a reboot widget, I'm rooted so I couldn't tell you if it works if you are not??
Probably been asked a thouswnd times but has anyone got a link to a rooting guide for streak. Also will it affect my ability to receive updates for o2?

Hi all,
I apologize first if my post is in the wrong place.
I am from India and got this very recently.
i just bought a x10 mini pro and updated to 2.1. tried to root it with z4 root but didn't work. now (i don't know if it was due to the partial rooting) the phone reboots when i go to the camera mode.
I will explain the steps i did here.
1. after a full charge the camera works. only some time.
2. i unlock the screen, press the camera on the screen and the phone reboots.
3. (after a little experimenting), if i dont lock the screen the camera mode works in and out perfectly. if i lock the screen and unlock, and then enter the camera mode it reboots.
4. also some bugs-- after taking a picture the same picture taken is locked on the camera mode, even after exiting the gallery mode and it takes some time to register the new scene on the screen. something i didn't expect.
also downloaded the app for the flashlight and if i press the light on button it restarts.
well i don't know if you understood that much. but there are 18 apps installed by me. i hope that it may be due to the apps i have installed, and only a couple of them are running. even when they are not running the matter is the same.
I previously was using a W705 SE and is a member of se-nse forums. this is the first time i am using a linux/android phone and this thing has let me down. is this a hardware related or a battery problem? everything looks SE genuine except the product is made in china by SE and imported to India. Maybe that??
Other than that the phone works ok. i just found out how to root the phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906231
so will try that and change all the apps to sd card. have a 8GB on that too. is there any detail i have to give about the phone?
Thanks all!
Tim
Hi, try to reinstall camera app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826849
Good luck
ok bro, will try it.
I did as said but it installed a different app and that says 'no camera available'. Is it really for the x10 mini? And it doesnt replace the default app. But the default runs seperately as usual. Is there any way to correct this problem? Thanks!

Hey,
Reflashing the phone will solve the problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
actually, the phone was flashed 2 timed by me, and 1 by the se service centre. I guess I have to change the battery. which makes no sense to me.
thanks for your ideas.
I'm not sure why but whenever I flash a GB ROM the widgets in overview mode jump around too much/too fast to the point where I can't even accurately choose which one I want to go to. It's smooth at first after a fresh boot/reboot but as time goes on my overview mode always starts to act crazy no matter which ROM I flash (I've been going back n forth between EWJET and WB and it happens with both of them). Is it possible to get the stock overview mode from GB with the widgets that are static and don't move round like in these custom versions? Any help would be appreciated, this is the only feature I am starting to not like.
I suspect this has to do with the fps unlock. I noticed it worked OK without it.

I didn't even think of that! That does sound like it could be a valid reason. Thanks!
Hey speig, do you know if there's a way to remove the uncap/restore the 30 or 32 (whichever it is) cap? I searched and found a solution in a thread that says to delete some line from a file in root explorer but it's not letting me edit the file, just view it even though I enable all permissions. Thanks in advance if you're able to help!
Scratch that...I was able to use ES file explorer/manager to restore the cap
Hello, as the title said, my phone was steal this week, so I think, is there anyway to install an app from the playstore in my browser and it gets installed on my phone that if the phone use the gps or the wifi it send me a notification of were it is?, I don´t know if it exist or even posible after it get stolen, but if you know something, please help me.
Thanks for reading, and if you are a developer, why you don´t try to do this as a project?
The phone was a Galaxy Ace, everything original on gingerbread.
Don't think you will be able to do this as person changes the sim card and sets up new profile you are no longer in control of the phone..... If you done this before then you could shut down phone,find it using gps etc.
But not a chance now.
sorry for your loss

Hi,
First off, that sucks bigtime. Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alienmanfc6.wheresmyandroid&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hbGllbm1hbmZjNi53aGVyZXNteWFuZHJvaWQiXQ..
I hope it works!
I recommend an app called "Plan B". (Plan B is the 'find my phone' app that you download AFTER you lose your phone.) https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5sb29rb3V0LmxhYnMucGxhbmIiXQ..
