[Q] Connect to SDK without root? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do you need root on the Atrix in order to connect to the Android SDK?

No, because you need to have adb to root, and to get adb you need the sdk.

[Q] Fastboot issues :(

HI I wanna install streakmod on my dell streak but I am having problems with my fastboot. I managed to install the drivers and got the fastboot_mode but I was unable to execute the commands. When I executed it, it kept saying that the command fastboot is not recognized! May I know what's the problem? TKS!
You're in the wrong folder, you need to be running it from whatever folder you have fastboot in
Ok. Tks for ur reply. But it seems that I have forgotten where I installed it in. Is there anyway to reinstall the drivers?

And one more thing, the driver was stated as Android ADB interface. Is it correct?

[Q] [Q/HELP!] Best Buy Flyer Bricked...

So I soft-bricked my tablet trying to downgrade the hboot to 1.0...03. It is not recognized as an adb device. All drivers are correctly installed, Everything is in line, but I still cannot get it to do anything. Hboot says relocked with a security warning, and even trying to run the RUU through a .zip file is not working. I'm hopelessly lost... Battery is charged up fine too. Help me, please.
Shameful self bump...
Where are you trying to use adb meaning what state is your flyer? If in hboot then adb would not recognize it, go into fastboot and use fastboot commands

That's the thing. Adb does not see it.

Can you access the bootloader?
P.S. ADB commands work only when the OS is booted up, otherwise - you need Fastboot commands
Yes. But fastboot commands weren't working either.

Just a reminder: to use fastboot, you must select "FASTBOOT" option in the bootloader, and you'll see "FASTBOOT USB" in the bootloader.
Try to redownload adb/fastboot utilities
I'll try.. but I've done this already.

Edit: I got it fixed. Stupid n00b mistake the entire time, Fatality, thank you for helping kick me in the right direction.

motochopper would work. I don't have time to write it up, but you could use revone to unlock/s-off then use motochopper to root. Once you have root you could use Rom Manager or Goo to install a recovery.

Hello,
I am fairly sure you need root to use revone to S-off you device.
If you are able to get you bootloader unlocked(this you need a computer, maybe a library or school). You can use an app(link below) to flash a custom recovery to your phone then flash a root tool zip(link below) and give yourself root. You just have to get your bootloader unlocked.
Flash image gui - To flash recovery

That's a negative ghostrider. You can revone a virgin phone. It's my root process so I don't have to HTCDev unlock.
1. revone
2. install recovery
3. profit

Hello,
Thanks for correcting me. I did it all on my phone so I need root to move the file, change permissions, and for terminal emulator. Have to double check my thoughts next time.

Hello,
I'm not too sure what kind of file it is, but it isn't an app. I would probably say it is some type of bin file(could be totally wrong). I think your best bet to get root is google revone then read about it.
If you don't own a computer your find a public computer you can get adb and fastboot working on and use revone to unlock your phone. Then use fastboot to install a new recovery.
After all that you can get root, but the bottom line is you need a computer with adb and fastboot.
Hope that helps.

You say you're in college!?! There should be computers on campus, at the library, or a friend even. Download the files you need onto your phone, take a data cable with you and bam. Should not take more that 10 min.

Manually Root Note 2

I want to manually root my note 2 using adb and linux. How would one go about unlocking the bootloader then rooting the phone using adb?

[Q] Failed to get Root

Simple as the title.
Was following this and downloaded Revolutionary beta by putting in my info.
My device (HTC Thunderbolt) is found, but I get this:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. Failed to get Root!
Press (almost) any key to exit.
I did a factory reset prior to this and I have my SIM card removed. I am wanted to root my device to use it as a programmable device. Unfortunately I can not even get past this first step:crying:
I am seeing something about zerg exploit no long works but I really do not know what this means. Is the guide I am following which is a sticky wrong and should not be promoting Revolutionary?
Is there a simple guide to get me root access and update the OS?
If your thunderbolt is on the official ICS ota you won't be able to use revolutionary to get root. There is a guide at infectedrom.com that can help you get root if you are on the official ICS.

Yeah I have never rooted it or anything so it would be stock. It has been dormant for about a year so I am not sure what OS it would have been upped to but it is currently at Android 2.3.4
I went to infectedrom but I do not see anything. In fact I see absolutely no threads inside the Thunderbolt listings.
Seems like a dead community
You have to register I'm pretty sure to see the threads. If you're on 2.3.4 and you're sure of it you need to make sure you have the proper version of revolutionary for your hboot version. You also need to make sure you uninstall any HTC drivers from your PC and use the drivers they provide. Sometimes disabling antivirus helps during the process and make sure to give the command prompt administration rights before you use it. If that doesn't work try a different USB cable or USB port on your PC.

I did register and I see "stuff", but I do not see anything in the Thunderbolt forum nor am I able to search (I get an access denied). In other words I can't find the guide
So Are you implying I can use Revolutionary?
I do not have HTC drivers on this machine. Revolutionary does connect to my device, but just fails to get root:crying:
Did you go here http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
And download the windows drivers they say you need?

I did that, but to be sure it was clean I removed and re-did. Now it is worse
When I plug the phone in Windows is telling me the driver is not installed properly and wants me to go to the HTC site to download one. Since it is not properly registering Revolutionary just hangs on waiting....

Drivers may have munged up do to removal etc.
I rebooted after removal and then installed what they have linked. It connects but still fails to root...
