[Q] XPERIA X10a worthless? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I have been trying to sell my XPERIA X10a (AT&T version) for a few weeks with no luck....
I've tried Ebay, and craigslist, each to no avail. I don't even get an offer on the phone.
I've noticed that it seems a lot of people are having the same issue.
Am I the only one that thinks the x10a is worthless now? Anyone have other ideas on where I can get rid of it?
Thanks for your input guys....

I think the problem is if someone wanted an X10 they could get it free (or $1) if they're willing to sign a contract. Another reason is it's still got android 1.6. I had an x10 and exchanged it for a Captivate. I originally got the x10 for free but had to pay $50 for the Captivate. And honestly, after using both, I'm glad I did.
I do have to go on record as saying, I am a SE fanboy. I LOVED my W600 and W760.

What was your starting price? A lot of people price themselves out of the game by going in to high at the start.. Did you advertise it with Android 1.6? Or have you flashed a stock 2.1 rom into it?
Sent from my X10 using XDA and Swype.

Why not flog it to one of these "we buy your mobile" places. Pretty sure you must have them wherever you are. Ive used them in the past to get rid of some old phones nobody would be interested in. Here in the UK the going rate for an x10i is £136 ($219). Better than a kick in the teeth, just.

I too have an X10a and thought about selling it myself until I rooted it and started probing it with every type of ROM and theme. Its not really worthless but all of the negative light shed on it due to Sony Ericssons lack of commitment really brought its value down. Try rooting it and giving it the newest firmware and ROMs until you can somehow sell it. As to where to sell it, I havent the slightest.
Re: cashforsmartphones.com/ < - - - - This site says 125$ for X10

Is that all? Thats a dreadfull offer. My quote came from mazumamobile.com and provided the phone works that's the price you get.

+1 on what's the asking price. I know someone that may be interested pm or email me at dude 772 @ gmail dot com. Thanks.

I'm actually thinking about buying another X10a. My usb port crapped out on me and I can't send it back to AT&T (i think we all know why...). What are you asking for it? pm me, or send me and email (I check that more often): dizarmstrong @ gmail dot com

i would get it maybe if it was under $100. lol

How much of big kick in the ass if XDA get 2.1/2 before SE release it lol

Surely this would be a big FU in SE face if they managed it before the proper update probably wouldn't have mattered before but after the past weeks eagerness and then the usual bombshell from SE I think it would be great lol

To be honest I think it's what they deserve.
From a marketing point of view, they are ****ed.
I too would love to see this happen
They ****ed us on the X1 and blamed HTC. Made big promises for the X2, we got ****ed even harder then. Now the X10!
Well at least my X10 is functional, not like the X2 I had before this. That was a pile of crap, a beautiful pile of crap... but still crap!
Yeah, hopefully someone cracks the bootloader soon!
This is my first SE phone (X10) since the old SE phones.. My question is.. Why do people like to continue getting EFF'd by Sony from X1 to X2 to X10?!??!
I learned my lesson after the X10.. Last time I ever give in to the brand, without doing my research first.
Sony Ericsson is playing there cards wrong. And, as a result? Lost MANY Potential and "loyal" customers from before.
Good thing i'm not on a contract with this phone!!
I would rather wait for the bootloader to be cracked by the devs anyway, they can take the updates and get better drivers other than that I think we would probably have to wait till october 2011 for froyo alone by SE. But by then I would of sold my phone for scrap metal and got an HTC ^^

Same goes for me, i would wait for the devs, what they do in there spare time for us is beyond anything that the SE devs can do in bringing us the best/newest firmware for the X10. Oh and as for 2011 for froyo that wont happen, i forgot where i read it but SE has said somewhere that 2.1 is the last firmware for the X10 series phones. If however we are able to get froyo as an update, SE would most likely cripple it again like they are doing to eclair as we speak and take out all the new features that comes with the update and only give us the number that shows up before the firmware version.

The x1 was by far one of my favourite phones I've ever used, only after using cooked ROMS from xda, I can see the x10 being one of the best Android based phones but only when it gets the same xda treatment.

There's no certainty that we will ever get a cracked bootloader, from SE's perspective; they don't have to stop the bootloader getting cracked forever, just 6~12 months by which time the phone will superseded by newer models and people will loose interest in cracking it as they move on to newer phones. If you look at the dev thread signatures you will see that a lot of them have already got newer devices. What do you think are the chances of them getting another X10 if one gets bricked? Natural attrition will eat away at our dev community unless a hack is found SOON and a homebrew scene springs up around the X10. It's not like X10 is an Apple product and cracking it will get you media attention / notoriety.
I'm sticking with my X10 for now, but I'm not optimistic.

yeah if its happen all x10 users will respect xda devz
All we can do is hope that we get a cracked 2.2

I doubt I'm going to get another SE phone after this.
I'm planning on jumping onto the HTC Desire HD bandwagon.. But I'll still have to wait atleast a year to save up enough money to afford it (University is killing me in loans).. Till then.. I'm stuck with this piece of ****!

you seriously consider getting one?
haven't you learned from SE android phones? just PS family worths buying cause the software is good
if they release a vanilla version of android then it'll be win im quite sure
they cant afford to screw the software up this time lolol
If it has Timescape and locked bootloader definitely not. If it has vanilla android and locked bootloader maybe. If it has unlocked bootloader then absof#@$nglutely.
I want to get this!!!
they should get rid of the physical buttons (menu, back, home, and ect...)
why not give the ram up to 1gb? battery waste?
Wow, that thing is UGLY! SE phones are generally pretty, definitely needs a makeover!
I am sure it will end up like nokia n-gage phones, down the tube...

for now, that just looks like another SE phone w/ PSP control sticks, 1MHz microSD and android 3, unless the thing can boot itself up separately from android i'm not sure how it would qualify as a playstation device being backwrd compatible and all that

I don't think that design is something which SE did .. i must be a concept of how the phone will be (done by who knows??) since u cane see that the home icon, menu icon are just not "SE".....
Moreover if they release at the same time as the did with x10, it mat not be a problem as long as it runs in gingerbread. BUT if they release it by the Q3(end of Q3 as SE keeps everything to the end) then it might flop!!
Moreover wait for 2 months after the release, so u can read all the complaints of the phone pasted on every blog related to smartphones!!
AFTER ALL, this is the age of technology, in every two months something pops up one better than the other!! if we have the money we can for it all !!! Otherwise be satisfied with we have!!!
even though its too early to comment ...
but that device will come with ginger bread installed ? when we paid a lot to get thier flagship only to depend upon them to give a meager 2.1
thats ridiculous
anyway i will never buy it.. more over i cant spend soo much , i am happy with PS3 right now.. and any gaming on the move ? i have my x10 with angry bird \m/ Peace
That's a prototype, even the hard keys are not "SE" final product should look better ,knowing SE. With all the flack they are getting in their product blog they cant even afford not to give the X10 2.2 after 2.1,they simply cant, what im guessing is that the PSP Phone and X10 will coexsist, X10 will get 2.2 and then the PSP Phone will come in rocking Gingerbread to bring some differentiation.
No more SE ****.... Never!

[q] Why LG Optimus One P500?

(,"o Yeah Man ~
All Optimus One Users..
Let each other know why you choose this Handset instead of other High-End Android Device..
So The Question Is..
WHY LG OPTIMUS ONE P500 '?
Well... because probably many of us aren't rich enough to buy a Samsung Galaxy S or S2
BUT aside that obvious financial reason... at the time the conciliation between the pricing AND the phone specs just seemed unbelievable to be true so I took my chances and I'm not regretting at all having this phone! Although I am now tempted to try the Ideos X5, however I am not rich nor can spend more money at the moment so... I'm sticking to my good old fashioned P500
because good price/performance ratio
Best in its price range with hell lot of features
For the price, its basically a g1 w/o the keyboard and has a slightly higher processor. Its not a bad phone

Long Story ^_^
well here's my story.. lol
back in february me and my wife are in hurry buying phone coz we both lost our phone back in november 2010.. we went to a shop near our location and she was in a hurry getting SE X8.. now its my turn to choose what phone should i get
honeslty i dont have anything in mind @ that time' my last high-end device was Nokia N70 hahaha.. then i grab Samsung Wave. first thing i did was go on youtube and watch video' i was a bit dissapointed coz the video was pixelated' i tried to play the same video on X8 and it was not pixelated. Then i gave back the phone to a sales personnel who took care of us. Then i found LG GT540' its pretty fine but i dont like the resisitive touchscreen' and we're running out of time coz its almost 10pm and the shop was about to close. then we went home the other day we went to a mall to buy something (not a phone) then while walking' 1 guy gave us a slip of paper (flyer) and it was an advertisement of LG Optimus One Limited Edition (glossy cover) w/ silicon case & bluetooth headset. Hell Yeah ^_^ the following day i search about LG Optimus One' i found out that its a cheap pretty decent android phone then after a couple of days we went to LG Store and purchased it..
that's my Optimus One Story .. LOL
and im so damn happy how it works now..
im not considering buying another android handset' i am now looking forward to Asus EEPad Transformers ^_^ we'll buy it on December Yeah Man ~
sorry for my english
To be honest I only had cheap flip phones before this one I decided I would spend some money and get a good phone for once. Went to the store, started checking out some phones, took a look at the Blackberry Curve 9300. It was on sale for a good price, and the plans they were offering at the time were good.
Bought the blackberry, found out I hated it after having it for 5 days. I have buddies with androids and they love them. So, back to the store, and I exchanged it for this nifty phone. Best part was that it was 80 bucks cheaper. Now I don't think I'll get anything else, best bang for the buck. I lost my old one and rather than get something different I just bought this phone again.
Then I found this site and now I don't think you could pry my P500 from my cold dead hands.
Thanks XDA for fueling my android addicition
Because my mother only allowed me buy a $0 dollar handset at my Telco. So i picked this instead of galaxy mini

This is an extra reason for acquired this phone
There was a half-off introductory sale for the Optimus One last year. I read about it and it became a snap decision to get one. Half off was 6500 pesos (around 151 dollars) unlocked. My friend and I went to the mall at 9.30 am (it opened at 10am) and sneaked into an open fire escape / side entrance and sat there until 2pm.
We were the first ones there, even before the employee who opened the store arrived. Then he shooed us away since it was against their agreement with the mall to have a crowd before the actual sale. When 10am hit, we heard a stampede of people running towards the store and before we knew it, we went from first to 17th...
I failed the upcoming exam because we stayed there and couldnt focus on reading. Then I failed the next exam since I bricked my phone within the week of getting it. Good thing the warranty was still there.
This phone is awesome Thank you talented developers of xda for making it super awesome!

[Q] Still No .73 UK Generic Update?

I have a white unranded Xperia S and have still not recieved the generic .73 update.... Has anyone else yet? Why is this taking so long? Its been out for over a month in singapore and nothing yet in the UK on unbranded Xperia S devices.... I used to have a HTC Desire which got timely updates.
Not impressed. It feels like all Sony have done is re brand Sony/Ericsson who used to be shocking for stuff like this.
Positive thinking, maybe they skip .73 and go for ICS.
I gave up. If you're itching to try one of the .73 FWs, just get one from the Dev section and flash it. You don't need to unlock the bootloader unless you want a prerooted one.
Sony UK really dropped the ball on this one, I think.
Sorry guys, I really dont mean to sound so negative. Its a fantastic phone and in all honesty so far its been great apart from battery life. I know the .73 firmware addresses this.
I really dont want to Root my phone etc just so I can get the firmware. I think Sony should have released it in the UK, my thinking is maybe Sony has not released it because ICS is just around the corner. If not that im not happy at all.
Look at the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. They update those devices fast, ok I know its not a Phone but maybe Sonys mobile devision could learn a thing or two from their games console devision.

I suppose the question he is asking is ' if the .73 update improves something as fundamental as battery life, then why oh why have Sony mobile UK refused to release it especially when it's available for branded kits. It just brings back bad memories of the X10 and we hoped all that was history now.
I personally believe the phone should never have been released with gingerbread. I just cannot understand the reasoning behind this move and I'm sorry Sony are just add guilty as Ericsson for this. Rebranding or not.
A phone that could have really taken off once again has been given a handicap by very poor executive decision making. Again a throw back to the x10 days. If ICS wasn't ready by the proposed launch date then they should have delayed the launch rather than releasing the phone with software that the community doesn't care about anymore.
It just shows that the company, Sony included, just haven't got it that android sells these phone and not the stuff they do no matter how good that might be.
A shame because the phone despite its cheaper price is in my opinion currently the best thing on the market.
The big retailers like amazon and play have just refused Sony's recommended retail price of £460 because of the poor poor performance of the phones released last year. Who can blame them. The xperia s will just have to clean up the sales mess left behind by the arc, play, and all the other ridiculous devices they flooded the market with last year.
It beggars belief that Sony should find themselves in any way shape or form competing with HTC, Samsung, and the other Korean and Chinese manufacturers.
On a hardware level despite its older CPU, the xperia is much quicker than all others which proves the point that when it comes to electronics, made in Japan is better than made in Korea, Taiwan, and China. No offence to the rest but the Taiwanese and Chinese are still very much up and coming.
What they do however is understand the android community much better than Sony.
Sony seem to think we are like apple consumers which couldn't be further from the truth. There in lies their problem.

Hi K900, thanks for the reply but I would rather use official update channels which for some reason have not happened in the UK. A bit of a silly move considering the Xperia S is selling bucket loads in the UK at the moment.

Yes I agree it seems very illogical. I came from a HTC Desire which had some really fast updates and Sony to me seems highly odd, considering the .73 firmware fixes battery issues.
The phone has taken of by the way, its selling very well across the world but Sony could help by releasing firmware that its possibly very important to everyone.
As for the processor and the Phone it was all designed in europe including the processors and stuff. All sony did was remove the ericsson moniker and make then use better hardware.
ICS is apparently out as early as a week away, if your phone is locked down to a network it maybe longer due to bloatware. This may not happen but reading stuff on here and twitter its looking very likely. Android versions arnt what sells a phone the most to consumers, its the screen, the design of the Phone, the camera and yea im sure the Android version helps but its not a huge thing. I really hope this is just a bedding in period with Ericsson now being trained how to make Sony phones properly.
I think its a fantastic phone and with the correct leadership from Sony could be bigger yet (sales).

Pretty poor on Sony's part to leave a simple firmware update hanging in a region.

I think it's more down to the user than anything...personally as someone who isnt a frequent user of their phone (mainly due to the fact that I use a tab), I find it quite disappointing how quick the battery drains...even in standby mode.

Somehow I doubt that ICS is around the corner. Android version matters more than anything else. If Sony left the s at gingerbread, the phone would bomb.
The phone is doing well as far as sales goes but that's because the HTC devices have been disappointing. Once the galaxy s3 is launched. All that would change as things stand. Sony need to make sure ICS is ready before the s3 launch

Flashtool a stock firmware from another region. You can do that without unlocking bootloader.

Hi, hope you don't mind me asking. I've just upgraded my old X10 Mini Pro and should be receiving the Xperia S in a couple of days. I've been looking at .73 threads in the Dev section and they tend to imply an unlocked bootloader. e.g http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571396
Needless to say I'm somewhat confused! Can I flash the above with a locked bootloader?

This got me too.
You can flash an original official FW, so replace stock UK with stock SG(Singapore) for example. But this wont get you root, unfortunately.

Yeah, I think I'd have to flash something like DoomKernel to get root? I'm still struggling with the learning curve with the Xperia S and still can't see the wood for the trees!
At this point the first thing I'm aiming to do is improve battery life, which .73 seems to do for many people.
Just had an email from Sony UK saying the .73 firmware will be out sometime this week. Makes me think ICS will be a long wait if it takes so long to release a simple firmware update.

[Q] so is dev work on ICS and JB dead now?

havent been here for about 2 or 3 years but getting another streak here soon once i sell off my Motorola milestone 3, and before i left there was talk of DJSteve coming back to pot cm9 to the streak and i see a few roms but not fully working so does that mean that all hope is lost and people moved on? or is there still people trying to get a fully working rom, plus with kitkat coming out and can "run" on lower spec roms will that give us a new light of hope?
I haven't seen DJ Steve here since he said he was going to work on ICS. At this point, it won't matter because in a few months I'm getting a Nexus 5. However, there are a couple lessons to be learned from this.
1. Don't promise what you can't deliver.
2. Don't trust anybody.
Now I'm sure at some point he'll come across this post, read it, and start throwing a hissy fit. However, this is the simple truth of the matter: he promised, didn't deliver, and any trust or goodwill he earned is gone. Getting angry at the messenger will not change that perception.
Thanks for the reply brother and it sucks such a awesome device and older crappyer phone are able to run ics and jb but I guess easier sources

I know it's a small consolation, but you could install Traveller DSC and have a fully featured ROM. It's not ICS, but it at least looks the part.
<random musing>Though I really should switch out the default wallpapers for something more in tune with my tastes.</random musing>
Yeah I will give it a try man oce I get a streak trying to sell or trade my unlocked motorola droid 3

See it like this: In it's time, the Dell Streak 5 was a top class phablet. Much like the Porsche 912 as a sports car in the 60s. Even today, it is fun to drive. Modern cars - even less expensive ones - have abs brakes, rain sensors or other bells and whistles you will never see in your classic model. So what?
Well Dell is definitly no Porsche and mobile devices have a much shorter lifespan than cars. But have you tried to buy a Dell Streak 5 lately? A new one or even second hand? You pay collectors prices.
