Using load monitor I've found the load is higher when asleep than when I'm using it.
Watchdog is telling me no apps are misbehaving.

Ooh, how do I do that?
I didn't mention that I'm running CM7.
Another bizarre thing, I had two notifications saying that Tweetdeck and Zeam had misbehaved at 2.25am. Now I can categorically say that I was sound asleep at that time so why should that happen?

Didn't work, mate
I uninstalled Facebook, twitter, tweet deck, yahoo mail and watchdog and it's made the world of difference.
Shame cos they were good apps

All,
I've reinstalled Facebook (refresh every four hours), Twitter (refresh every 15 minutes, thought I had it on 4 hours) and Yahoo Mail(no sync), battery life is OK.
I've also noticed that winamp widget takes a lot of power so I've uninstalled that.
Load Monitor is still showing high values for some reason but I'm happy with the battery so far.
I'm now going to switch off refresh on Twitter and Facebook to see what happens.
More as it comes in!

Mine is doing the same thing right now. It was working fine then nothing. My last update was like 17hrs ago.
same here , has anyone found the solution ?
same here guys! tried to restart the phone still not updating
+1. On all three SE X10 forums I use its a problem. Facebook must have changed something cos I haven't changed anything on my phone (I don't think).

One of the big reasons people bought this phone(well, atleast me) was for Timescape - and my facebook hasn't updated for 22 hours now - LOL
I have seen this happen to several other phones and manufacturers. Maybe this means 2.1 is coming soon! Jk

I use Timescape everyday, its the most useful feature on the phone. Once they sort out the speed lagging issue in 2.1 I will set it as my home screen

Same I use this app everyday seriously is one of the best features of the phone and now its broke !!
My Facebook spline hasn't updated in 2 days either, and doesn't seem to if I click Refresh. Perhaps Facebook changed their API?
Mine did not update for more than 17 hours, and just 30 minutes ago, it starts updating again. It must have been a problem with Facebook itself...
Given up and now using Facebook widget and ditched Timescape til I see on one of the forums that its sorted. Got a twitter app and not worried about calls/sms/pics for time being. Shame, its one of the things I liked about phone altho picture quality on it was pretty rubbish.
Same thing happened to me. I even re-installed the OS through SEUS because I thought that it was me that I messed with something. Now Facebook is not refreshing, telling me that the latest update was from 30 hours ago, and I can't log into twitter because it keeps telling me that either my username or password are wrong... tried them on twitter.com and I have them right... so wtf?
Lol I gave up with timescape a long time ago. It has always been buggy.
My twitter app is perfect for me, tweetcaster. The only real annoyance remaining for me is the lack of a decent facebook app.

I'm hating this SO MUCH. I can login on twitter in Firefox and even the Android Web Browser, but none of the Twitter apps work. Call it Timescape, Twidroid, nothing.
I hate when this happens... this phone is starting to overwhelm me with the god damned bugs.
Yup, mines not refreshed on facebook for a day now. Twitter's fine.. fb changed something??

I think Timescape gets the update from facebook touch site, cause every time you click on the panel it takes you to the touch site.
If there is a delay with touch site updates, looks like Timescape got affected
My girlfriend just got a bell gs2 and she was having really poor battery life so i looked at it tonight and it seems that facebook won't stop using the cpu and will go from 3-10% cpu usage all the time. Is anybody else having this problem? Is there any solution?

Unfortunately facebook for android sucks, try setting it to check for updates less often, and sign out of chat if not using it.

If you're talkin bout the official facebook app then you are right. Also had this experience. Was checking thru system panel then i noticed the fb app was consuming cpu usage while running in background with sync off.. That fb app is getting glitchy sometimes. I uninstalled it!

I had similar issues with the official Facebook app. I use Advanced Task Killer (ATK) which is a free download from Market. You can set it to auto-kill apps at regular intervals (in my case, every hour). So the FB app gets killed every now and then, saving whatever battery can be saved..

ATK'ers cause more problems than they help, as every time something is killed, the phone wakes up, kills something, then the app has to be reloaded.
Its highly recommended not to use them.

Maybe pre gingerbread, but as far as I know 2.3.x has always had a LMK (low memory killer) built in, so it does the same thing as a ATK, but its "smart" and doesn't hurt the battery like a ATK does.
I kno this is a super bump but this is the closest thread i could find to my issue...
After facebook recently updating the app i noticed, in the stock application manager on my LG P930, it using about 58% and even spikeing up to 88% CPU usage and using over 40.0 MBs of my RAM i have to stop the app in the application manager for it to stop....
Heres a pic for proof i guess:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1035642&stc=1&d=1335922294
So my actual question is can this harm the hardware to my phone if i dont stop it running after every use? And is there maybe a fix to get it to stop using so much?
i got fb on both sgs1 an sgs2 yes many say it consumes power but y dosnt mine do tht its loggd in 24hrs........cheerz
Facebook for Android sucks really.. I noticed this whole CPU trashing started when they upgraded Facebook some time ago to what is the "current" skin for the past 4-5 months or so. Suddenly, everytime I launch Facebook, when I go back to my home screen it stays running...
Obviously I have the notifications and synch refresh set to never..
Watchdog complains about it...
Connecting via ADB and issuing top shows the katana process eating 20% cpu or more..
Using a terminal app on the phone and issuing top reveals the same thing...
So I just use Watchdog to kill Facebook everytime I'm done using it, or I use the sluggish browser version that doesn't suffer from this cause it runs in the browser
Upgrade after upgrade they can't seem to fix this and it's symptomatic.. not random! At least not on my Nexus S running the latest ICS 4.0.4.
Would be interesting if via ADB we could check the threads of the facebook process and see what's running...
What would be even better would be some sort of channel to complain about this to Facebook.. I mentioned this in my review on the Play store but I don't think anyone cares about what's written there (at least none from the Facebook development team..)

I currently use FriendCaster. I like the functionality and it works very well.
I like the official Facebook app aswell, but it drained so much battery for me, always running in the background, even if i disabled all kind of sync, updates, etc. It even ran in the background when i didn't have enabled data/WiFi, and also after i force closed it. It would just pop right back up.

True. I was surprised to see notifications waiting though sync was off. Uninstalled immediately.
I just use the mobile webpage for now, not much different from the app, except that it can't upload photos (which i do by emailing to Facebook), and it can't sync contacts (which i do with Samsung social hub)

Facebook for HTC Sense isn't really an app, just integration into Sense so you can post from your people app. The Facebook for Android is the official app, and it's probably the best because you can do everything you need from it.

I do like the official Facebook app's features but, like Moonbloom, I've found that it's a drain on my battery. Looking for something with comparable or even better features that might be less taxing on the battery.
The stock Facebook app is pretty functional and even displays "timeline" if your friends were unfortunate enough to get switched to it. Maybe the drain is coming from your sync settings. My battery does well, though I don't have my Facebook syncing constantly.
Another thought...as far as battery goes...if you have the widget running all the time, it may affect your battery. I just touch my FB icon and open it when I need it. I don't need to see my friends' status updates all day long. If something posted on my wall or by someone I'm following, it notifies me in the notification bar.
I'm trying to work on and figure out why my battery life on any version of Rage rom is so terrible compared to everyone else. Clearly it's not the rom, so it must be stuff i'm running.
The biggest culprits I always see on my gsam reports is apex launcher and Android System. But I can't understand what apex launcher is doing that its responsible for 30% of my application's battery usage
I've posted a few times in the Rage thread, but haven't had any responses there, so decided I'll check here

that's what i thought too.. i have a tasks widgets, calendar, and weather. the weather updates every 4, calendar every 6, and tasks i can't set any intervals. but widgets were the only thing i could think of that would be casuing apex to be using so much battery
Do you have location enabled for the weather widget? Ive always found weather and location type widgets to be very power hungry.

yes i do. but if its only updating every 4 hours, that shouldn't be too bad i'd imagine.
Yeah but locations is running non stop. Do a little experiment, disable all locations services and freeze Google maps and HTC locations picker and things like that.
Facebook apps and widgets are really hard on battery life but I don't remember seeing that mentioned.

I have no idea what's going on, and its extremely aggravating. I never use Facebook other than for when notifications show up, each of then pictures are taken of stats on a brand new s3 with a brand new AOKP ROM, and I have not even opened Facebook after a full battery charge and a reboot, and it still demolishes my battery.

Try it the old fashioned way
Delete Facebook and reinstall it. I had the same problem with Google Maps once and it worked that way.
Reinstalled and same behavior.
I even force stopped the app out of curiosity, and its still draining, even tho its still stopped

That's right, Facebook will only sync when you open it, this is what fast Facebook does (which is very popular as it's a lightweight ver different version). Facebook is a big hogger but if you want instant updates, guess you'll have to put up with it. You could try clearing data, running sdmaid on a regular basis and clearing Facebook files, that might help.
