[Q] What ROM is a streek running - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
I managed to smash the screen on my streak, good news is my insurance is paying out. I am considering buying a second hand one as they are giving me the cash
Is there any easy way to figure out what ROM its running. Would rather buy a streak with a standard rom and flash it as I want to.
I know its prob a stuipid question but thanks

You planning to buy second hand? I can't see it's a problem if not.

i would like to make sure its not rooted

Can i ask why ?

why??????????

I think he means that it hasn't been previously rooted ...sound like he doesn't want any corruptions that an inexperienced flasher might of done

thats exactly why I want to make sure, that and for the moment stock 2.2 is good for me

welcome.
1st thing after taking it out the box...
Charge the battery...
Seriously, I just started to play with it as this is my first forray into the Android, I decided not to ROOT the phone. I wanted to get to know the unit first *STOCK* and then decided if ROOTING is necessary or not... Mostly just exploring the phone and getting used to Android... Enjoy!

this is something that everyone should do with new phones, IMO (mostly noobs to the android environment). people are quick to root just because they see everyone else doing it.

Agreed. When I first got my Captivate, which was my first excursion into Android land, I ran it stock for about a month before I rooted and modded. That showed a bit of restraint, too, because the Captivate did have some serious problems on stock, ie. lag, gps, etc. On the SGS II running stock is a great experience with no serious problems.
Agreed, just use the phone as is, ask questions, learn how things work, experiment with different applications, widgets, settings, etc. Only after you've fully exhausted the possibilities of what comes stock with the phone and determined that you really need a feature that it doesn't provide should you consider rooting and all that. In short, don't try to change what you don't fully understand yet.

Same. The thing is, I actually kind of like the TouchWiz. I don't really like the aesthetics and the lock screen is terribly crappy, but I don't want to sacrifice everything else just to get a different lock screen and better looking icons.
I would have also liked that CRT animation...

Me twooozzzz
I just upgraded to the SGS2 myself... I am loving it... Aside from wanting to tether, I haven't had a strong desire to root this thing just yet... I did enough of that on the 'ole Cappy. I like how this one just seems to work.
Don
3 days to root mine. schedule conflict and time, other wise it would've been done hours after. for the wife, it took 30hrs. sent her off to work with it, and the next day she wanted hers to look like mine. lol
Thanks for all the response guys. Yeah I'm still getting used to tbr phone. I'm trying just to customize it to my liking
. All I do now is read this forums I think first Thing I need is a case screen protector and extra batt

Hey, welcome to the GSII and good choice in phone picking! The first thing I did was root, change out the keyboard skin and added some new notification tones because the stock ones suck.

Good thing it has gorilla glass on it then.
I used it for a bit, was unhappy with battery life. So I rooted via Entropy's stock+root package, de-bloated it via Titanuim Backup, and am enjoying it with better battery life.
Waiting for Words to become battery friendly...
Came to the s2 from the moto backflip. I would root that phone and play around with it now that it just sits but can't find the forum for it here. Lol

Actually, there are ROMs that are based on stock. I didn't know that until now...used CM7 on my Captivate and wished there was a combination of the aesthetics of TW and the speed and functionality of CM7.
UnNamed ROM is an excellent TouchWiz-based custom ROM. There are custom mods for the lock screen (a notification toggle flash that includes a toggle for lockscreen), and some different mods for certain icons, I believe (Kitchen?).
UnNamed ROM is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299474

whats so great about this version over cm7.1 stable?
I wouldn't buy anything from someone who did not know the password. If you paid more than 65 dollars then you got ripped off.

[Q] To Root or not to Root? that is the question?

Ok can you lot give me a few good reasons to root my transformer prime and install a new ROM. I've been looking at some of the ROMs and they all look kinda.... **** lol no offence. they just look to much like the prime unrooted but with a few changed to colour really :/
i rooted my SGS2 and installed the muiu ROM i think its called and thats great i llove it. it looks different and that's what i want
someone prove me wrong please
Do you want full control over your device? The ability to get rid of the asus crapware and run your own things? I too rooted my SGS2 after about a week of owning it and haven't regretted it.
With root you can install adblockers, backup tools (proper ones), overclocking
If you're technically minded and want to get the most out of your money then root, if you don't want to risk damaging your Aluminium piece of sexy then don't.

Rooting is definitely the way to go, doesnt affect your ability to get ota's and what not, if you want to unlock i say wait a lil bit longer to find out when or if ASUS is going to release nvflash to us, granted it definitely looks promising giving Gary Key's latest update.
That said if you want to unlock you can still get AOKP from jermaine just not from here, whether he is still supporting the rom is an entirely different question
hmmmmm ok i dont know i suppose i could just get root access and keep it as stock then. im going to have to find out how to root this now sigh lol research.. i'll look it in about 3 hours lol
I would highly suggest you root it since if any things happen you can just factory default the tablet and it'll be unrooted
So there's really nothing to loss rooting it
Just make sure after you root your device you backup the root so you don't loss it after you update the prime
lol you lost me after backing up my root. =/
i just tried to use sparkyroot but it doesnt seem to be working. im going to look at other methods.
dont think i can root it can i im currently on 9.4.2.21
Check the general thread, there is a way to downgrade and then root it without unlocking.

No Worries Needed...
well, you can be sure that in closed future you'll be able to unlock your bootloader but till that promotion you can simply root your device, install rom manager, flash clockworkmod recovery.
Start rooting your device here:http://www.unlockroot.com/index.htm

Of course there are some suitable & useful links on XDA but most unfortunately, this website is banned in my country and takes me a long time to provide you these links,I'm so sorry about that.
But----> have a look at this,where you should start:http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1223

That sux man, I got my mopho off cowboom last week and it came with 2.3.4. If its ang consolation I tried cm9 but it wasnt polished to my liking as of yet (no chrome or opera browser and multitouch games sucked)
Pretty much only thing an unlocked bootloader will allow you is custom kernels and I personally love the stock 2.3.5 kernel

you might want to look into using PROMS to get your modding fix until we find a way around the fuse issue. i believe proms are themed roms that run over stock.

[Q] Fascinate on Page Plus

Does anyone here use the Fascinate with Page Plus Cellular? If so, have you had any issues? I'm looking for a new phone and possibly new provider, and Fascinate+Page Plus seems like a good combo, but I want to check to make sure. Has anyone tried it with JB roms? I want to make sure everything will work.
I use mine with page+. Fascinate ROMs work out of the box. No APN/carrier-specific crap to deal with.
