[Q] Driod X gingerbread rom on Archos Gen 8 - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Given that Droid X has similar architecture to Archos Gen 8, is anyone brave enough to try loading the new Droid X gingerbread rom on their gen 8 device?

Im not a dev, but i know that our gen8 tabs touchscreens is hosted by an inside usb port - and this is the problem i think the gb source code is not released, is it?
We have to change the source code that our touchscreen works probably.
This is why we haven't a hc port. Licuende have tried that but the touchscreen doesnt work.

GB source code is released, HC is the missing one.

Because then you lose all multimedia capabilities from archos (all avos binaries are closed source). So what benefit from gingerbread would justify the loss of the multimedia capabilities which makes the archos tables so unique.
Honeycomb is another story again

Urukdroid
After $uaron has finished his 1.0 release of Urukdroid he should have definitely have a look at trying to get gingerbread running on Gen 8 devices. It's probo;y more of a reachable goal than getting Honeycomb work, and it would probably run faster then both Froyo and Honeycomb.

I've Been following his work in the Dev Only forum and it looks like he is pretty much done but is going to hold off releasing it because he is still waiting for Archos to release the new SDE source code which he can merge into Urukdroid. I think it will be about a week, maybe bit less, for $auron to do this.

Oh thats cool what will be in the new sde by archos?^^
Thanks for this infos

Even if you english is not that good, you shold at least try to read the stuff yourself first.
$auron stated that the freezing problem is because the released kernel sources have errors and are not equal to the 2.1.08.
So he contacted NZ ( employee of Archos ) and got the notice that there will be some new gpl sources out maybe next week.

@fzelle sorry but the dev thread is over 100 pages long, I didn't even find it myself. maybe I searched for the wrong words but thanks anyway for summing it up here

As it is on the last page atm, there is no searching involved.

Linux and Android on Raphael

Since I run Linux systems at home I'm really interested in running it on my phones too. I kinda ordered my new phone since my TYTN is falling apart (does not synch thru USB anymore) so I can wait till late november for HTC to release their phone on Android.
So, do you think HTC will make an Android ROM for the Raphael? (or is there a big probability someone will cook it from another ROM)
I don't think they will do such a Android-ROM for Touch Pro as they will try to sell their new Android-Device. But since the Touch Pro has this Qualcomm-CPU, I hope Android will run on it - Again, made by some community-member, not HTC.
would somebody like to try booting linux on the raphael? I wonder if things will behave in the same way as on the diamond ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402002 )
in that thread, marbalon posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=104265&d=1218018832 a package with latest haret and a build for the halibut machine from the google git.
also you can replace the zImage in the diamond.zip with the zImage builds for vogue from dzo: for example http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/zImage
or try the kaiser kernel http://linuxtogo.org/~lgorris/kaiser-bootkit/zImage.bin
and report what happens. does haret get further than go go go? Which machine does it detect?
thanks
can a moderator move this to raphael rom development please?
I tried the bootkit for Diamond, the latest builds for the kaiser from igorris and also the latest build for vogue - but all hang up.
i will investigate a bit....
do they hang at 100% / Go Go Go? Do you see console output?

Please take a look in this topic..

Its about running Android on the Diamond..
And they didnt got it working...
And the Pro got the same proccesor/chipset ast the Diamond..
we created a research page with links to the kernel relevant wiki pages:

Done... and good luck!
As i wrote last time, i didn´t get running the kernel for Kaiser (Latest Build) and Vogue (Latest Build).
Now it seems that the problem is or at least could be related to the storage card. It´s a common problem that sdhc-cards over 4gb won´t work as a android drive. so maybe anyone can try it with a card that fit the needs - i have only a 8gb model?
Good Luck and post every result!
I have tried vogue version on my raphael but it hangs on booting linux... 100% and i it hangs every time.
files are on phone not on sd card.

It is not a big surprise, because Raphael has a different CPU.

The SD controller on MSM7200 CPU is located in a different memory area
compared to the MSM7200A CPU.
Edited, I thought you meant a different processor than the G1.
Kinda stupid why people funny toil to try execute a linux on a wm6 device?decide whitch one uu want then buy... 4 my is awful idea have linux on my diamond pro no thx...

We need the G1 kernel source, and modules (if there would be some closed-source drivers). I have documented many (most?) MSM gpios,
the DRAM config is known too. I'm researching the Hitachi LCD setup
because G1 has a different panel, so it will be necessary to modify
the init/suspend routines.

Totally agree.
wm is the best mobile os at the moment unfortunately (if android is not counted), nokia's symbian just plainly.. eh, stinks. and so on.
Android would be really nice, waiting for it to raphael, even as a flashable rom! That would be so awesome! (we dont need WM to flash, it works straight from the bootloader, so why not!)

Android 2.0

Has anyone got Android 2.0 working on the hero? Seems "Steve Kondik" has got it running on his G1.
http://source.android.com/
the community there did it, among others also cyanogen ;-) and they ported it to g1.
You MIGHT have read about it, but:
1: The code ported to AOSP isn't complete yet, and there are a few things which still don't work, like calendar.
2: ROMs running on the G1 were either ported from droid/sholes or partly, from the SDK.
Than again, the G1 has a 2.6.29 kernel, which the Hero doesn't.
A.
and HTC has announced that there will be an 2.0 update for the HERO, but when it will be released only they know...
> darn connection; dbl post <
no1 is currently working on 2.6.29 for hero. isnt it? tht means we will have to wait for the official release.

[DEV] Near on getting android to our beloved atom

I have made a set of files from the android roms floating on net with haret, according to the log below haret seems to pass control to linux android kernel and thats when it crashes, haret encounters no errors so it would be grateful if some one can help me out here with a uart port.
Log:
Cool, GO,GO,Go!
ok, ive got haret working perfectly with other 3rd party mobile linux kernels.
i got the the android source for 2.6.31 and 1.6 rc4 on linux and am off to writing drivers in my free time using haret, linux and ofcourse o2 Atom xD
will post beta builds for testing...
Oh yeah, then we'll just have to buy another atom to play around with android X-D ...no need for expensive devices
Like this...
I just wanna help you, but i didn't know anythings...
Good luck
regards.

Any news?
well we do have a news but it aint good,
Drivers and other various mLinux were working on my Atom but
since Android 1.5 cupcake, 2.1 Eclair and 2.2 froyo all require ARMv7 Processors where as Atom is built upon the Intel PXA architecture with ARMv4 instructions.
Hence THERE WILL BE NO ANDROID ON ATOM EVER. however you can always create a ARMv7 emulator but then who wants to waste nearly 2 years writing code all time while wasting their financial resources writing an emulator which will run so slow on atom that its beyond use...
I could do that xP but my Atom's USB port broke last week, I have contacted expansys in vain.
will probably shift to Desire or Leo by next month..

I gotta throw out a correction here, the PXA architecture is ARMv5te, and all of the andoid versions boot on the Universal that has the same processor link
well mate, after writing teh drivers, my O2 was still stuck at the same place,
not to mention O2 atom incorporates Intel PXA 27x while Universal carries the 272 version.
However small the difference be, it could be the key.
and its just not the CPU and its Instructions that matter, im working without the Atom datasheet which is like completing a maze while you are blind..
The git repositeries refuse to build under ARMv4, however i will try ARMv5, but since my atom is broken, ill need some1 who can dare to brick their own atom xP kidding, so ill just post all the drivers and the git repository for Cupcake since that is the version even Universal works on.. Cheers to O2.
News on it?...
I hope to see some updates on this revolutionary item.
great news!!! will check this session closely!!!! thanks
Any update?

[Q] Will be FW 2.3.20 included in Urukdroid?

Hey,
Will the brand new firmware from archos included in urukdroid?
This is the biggest firmware update since the eclair/froyo switch
i would love to use my 101 as remote control for my tv ( i know its big ) (this is new in the 2.3.20 firmware )
Hope sauron and his guys include it in the 1.0 version of urukdroid this would be an giant improvement of archos tablets
I Don't think it will be on UrukDroid 1.0 because it is already in beta stage. And the source code isn't out yet for this release, so no one can modify it until then.

Hmm..okey
but do you know if archos will delease the source code?
Or they will be make a closed source like google
They are forced to release it, and it seems like they will release it today ($auron say it there : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908744&page=90
And Google don't close the source, they don't release it yet because they can't be run on phones, and if they release the source some ROM will be made of it, and that's bad for the android user experience. They'll release it when it could run anywhere
@Lennb:
You should really upgrade your english skills, so that you not allways get the informations wrong.
@eagleofdeath13:
Archis is forced to release the Kernel sources but not their own extensions, so $auron will have to copy those other things.
And as the Medialibrary format is changed there will be no real coexistence unless he copies their stuff but he should avoid to copy the wifi stack, as this is broken.

i guess i learned more in self study than in the six or so years i had english in school (playing metal gear solid a billion times helped too )...
too bad smart.fm is gone now...
well, atleast i got my iknow for japanese
for the sake of the topic:
i found the new firmware to be the by far best to date.
never had the eclair firmwares though...
ADW ex is FINALLY working smoothly now, even though there 's no overclock or root at the moment...
i could be wrong, but it feel smoother than urukdroid now. Too bad i couldn't use urukdroid at all, since it crashed my 101 after a while every time i tried it...
Yeah! This update is really faster! I don't know how it's possible but WOW! Amazing! XD

CM 13 becoming official for H7 - is there a way?

Good evening everybody!
I recently saw this guy from PsxProjectAD and his awesome work with porting Cyanogenmod 13 to our device. He seems to be very talented in his work and I wonder if it could be possible if Cyanogenmod 13 could become officially supported for our Honor 7. However is there a way to make Cyanogen adopt the rom?
Imagine the possibities: Getting a fresh rom with new (security) updates daily(!), no more rely on Huawei at all and a true android experience! That would be so nice!
All in all it would be incredible great if this would happen - but I think it's required that the guy from PsxProjectAD at least has to share his work to make this dream become true. So what are you guys here thinking about that? :highfive:
Sources used: www.facebook.com/PsxProjectAD, www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BK14m7hVPI&t=17s
Not realistic at all cause usually cm only makes official builds for sapdragon devices
