New customer surcharge? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my first bill from Verizon.....could anyone explain the surcharge I got? It was about $70..... Is it because I got unlimited data at the last minute?

well part of that is an activation fee, part of that is because you didn't start on day on of their billing cycle, so you pay for part of one cycle and then all of the next one. First bills with any carrier are always huge.

Check your bill online and it will break down the charges. As previously stated your activation fee + data charges(prorated for month until next cycle) + 1 month in advance should all be on there, your next bill will be normal. Just fyi, if you ordered your phone from Verizon Friday-Monday they do have a free activation if you ordered on those days. Just something to look into and might save you $35.

Thanks for the quick replies.

When I got my Droid X it was on backorder for 10 days and they tried charging me for those 10 days. Verizon tries to pull some shady stuff so definitely check your bill.

Premier Gold

How to get premier gold I currently have 1500 family plan with two lines I'll be adding two more lines august 1st would I have to change my plan or will the extra $40 for the two lines and don't forget the +$20 for smartphones therefore $60+ my current $120 after discount monthly bill would be $180 is that enough for gold status ? I also get a 25% discount if that matters.

In order to get premier gold you have to upgrade ur service to the everything data 3000 for 169.99..premier gold is base only on ur primary line.. Or get get simply everything and that will also get you premeir gold
u know this information could be easily found on their website or just googling some FAQ's.. not necessarily pertaining to the evo 3d...
anyway.. here

I actually did check their website but I wasn't clear on if I actually had to change my plan or not I thought my bill just had to total $169 or more but I appreciate the link and I posted here because this is the only section that I use being that I only have 3d's on my plan and I'm pretty sure its someone in the 3d section that wasnt 100% sure about the topic which is why I posted in the q&a section.

It's based on the price plan or the length of service.....
Ten years + or a 169.99 family plan
You don't have to upgrade to the 3000 minute plan, it's just over 170 over all. . .

Ok so I have the everything data 1500 $129 +$10(smartphone) x2=$20 +$7(TEP)x2=14 +$4(familylocator) I also have spending limit which cost like $3(i think) everything =$170 without tax should the qualify to gold status or does my 25% discount effect that if so I'm adding two more lines august 1st which is $20 per line and the $10 smartphone fee both of those times two would be $60 on top of my $170 bill and would total out to $230 without tax and without my 25% discount. Would that qualify me?

You will have to be on the $169.99 plan or be a sprint customer for 10 years. It doesn't matter how many add ons you have (premium data and extra lines). Your discount doesn't effect your premier status.

You should call Sprint. Most likely it was an error on their part or some feature was added to your account. Activation fee? Sprint TV? Insurance? Premium Data?
My bill was thevsame in the past few months...except for the $1 increase in TEP.

An increase of a dollar or two is normal, as Sprint has been adding extra taxes/goverment fees. But 40 is a lot, you should call and ask.

Charge for replacement phone?

Quick question for you guys. I recently got a replacement Inc 4g for one that had a bad Bluetooth radio. Now I notice on my latest bill that I was charged 13 dollars for overnight shipping to send the new phone out to me. Is this a standard practice? I feel like I shouldn't have to pay the shipping fee but I wanted to see if other people dealt with this issue yet.

They are supposed to give you the option of overnight for $13 or slower shipping for free. It shouldn't be too hard to argue the fee off your bill if you claim that you were never offered the non-overnight shipping option.
they will give you anything if you keep bugging them.... i complained that my Thunderbolt was having issues (a few weeks after warranty). They offered me a new thunderbolt... i complained, and they gave me the DINC 4g with an extended battery. for free overnight shipping. (without renewing my contract)
just call them and dispute

Thanks all. I am pretty sure I can dispute it. Haven't had time to call yet. And no I was never offered shipping options, the tech simply said a new phone was being sent to me overnight and I said ok. Had I known I woulda been charged for it I woulda declined.

I did. They gave me a credit to my account but not before the Verizon support lady gave me a lot of attitude. Like it was a hassle for her to do her job.

Do they charge if there is a problem with the phone? I got my One on Saturday and it has shut off twice on me already. I've never had to return a phone, so I don't know how this restocking fee works.

If it's a reproducible problem you might be able to get out of restocking...if it's intermittent, probably not. The fee is $50.

I have a problem with mine too.. but the challenge is finding a place that has them in stock. If it's a problem (they're usually asses about it) they won't charge the restocking fee. It's 50 btw

That's because you can't restock service.

I believe the restocking fee is $50 if you are returning the phone within the 14 days (retail store) or 20 days (t-mobile.com). Now sure if it changes if you are also canceling service.

I'll just go to the store. Thought I might get lucky and find a store employee who knows from experience. It seems that phone reps know nothing about how things work in store.

It'll be a $50 fee for any exchange unless you can reproduce the issue and are exchanging for the same phone. If you have issues they will exchange it for the same model with no fee charge. If you want a different model, then a fee will be charged. Choose wisely

I am a RSA in a T-mobile Corp Store. From T-Mobiles return/exchange policy there is a $50 fee for return/exchange for most smartphones. Some of the smartphones have a $75 fee like the Note 2 and the Iphone 5. The Manger has to override the restocking fee and most mangers will not override it unless you can show us the problem in the store. There is no known issue right now about reboots in our internal system. I am not saying that it isn't a issue but I have yet to see any HTC One reboot that I have sold. Most of the time if you want to exchange the phone for the same model the fee is removed. If you want to change to a different phone or just do a full return the fee is almost always charged unless we see the problem.

T-Mobile also replaces your phone for one year (refurbished), or if you have the insurance bundle they will always replace it. They send it next day air, then you return the defective phone. It's $5 if you have insurance or $25 if you don't.

Its what we have been told when we tell customers. Its pretty much just like the new PHP costs. If you get PHP for your phone and the full bundle is $11.99 your phone most likely has a $75 restocking fee. I am sure it is because of the cost of the phone. The Note 2 is a $700 phone where the GS3 is a $500 phone. I know the HTC One for PHP is $11.99. We were told to put the $75 restocking fee sticker on the phone for customers to know. Also if you look your re receipt it talks about it there as well. I think T-Mobile calls the $75 ones super phones where the $50 ones are called smartphones.

You might want to check with your manager about that before an angry customer comes in saying you guys lied about the restocking fee and enforcing it at that price when it shouldn't have been.

I work at a Corp store as well and ALL smart phones ring up as $50 restocking fee . none are $75
Tablets however are $75

So upset and sold a bag of goods

I just got my sprint bill and found out that the one up deal that was explained to me in the store was wrong and I am now paying about $51 per month more than I should or was told I would.
Background info....I had 4 lines on the family program and decided to use the one up, or whatever that program is called, to get the Note 3. I was prepared to pay cash for it but the store told me how good a deal it was to use the rental monthly fee upgrade programs since I get new phones all the time. They said that the cost of the new program was like $29 per month extra but I had to trade a phone to get into the program. I thought this was a reasonable deal.
After reviewing my bill in detail today I see they took one line out of my family plan which I was paying $19 for and $10 per month for data and now charged me $50 plus $30 for the data as well as the $29 per month rental.
So in the end I lost my $19 family plan line, traded in a phone that was working well, and now pay $51 per month for the new plan plus the rental on a phone.
Called Sprint today and they said they can't help via customer support that only the store can fix this.
I know this is going to be a nightmare.
Has anyone of you experienced this or know how to escalate a store issue?

What you just described is why I bought my phone. No one-up unless you're in one of their everything plans, which if you have multiple lines with a shared minutes + unlimited data plans adds about $100 per month to your bill. Your better off buying the dang phone.

My sprint store here advised me against doing the one up because I do have the family data plan, she said I'd be an idiot to switch to the one up, plus they wanted my EVO LTE, wasn't going to happen. Hopefully you can get it fixed.

I strongly suggest that you call customer service or corporate (if you get flak from customer support), and reverse your choice if you don't like the deal they gave you. Even if you up your contract on your old plan, breaking later (say in one year, which happens to be the one-up timeline) is cheaper than the increased monthly fee you're facing. Over two years you'd have added $2,400 to your bill (that's three new phones).

Everyone has a different measure of price/value. I'm on a shared minute with unlimited data plan.
For me, a full 2 year contract discounted price is a huge waste of money ($150 phone + 100 per month = $2550 = No thank you).
One-up plan for one year forcing me to move at least my master line to one of the two unlimited everything plans is also a waste of money (35 per month for 20 months + 60 extra per month for 20 months = $1200 additional expense).
I buy the phone, don't change plans, stay off contact, one-time hit of $700.
I buy my own insurance policy, get my phone serviced same-day locally for any needed repair = total control.

The new plans suck too... They throttle you to 1 mbps for media... As well as put you on a lower tier for data priority.
