I've had to go to the stock ROM and now want to re-root to install ROMs I'm using SE 2.1-update 1, Build 2.1.1.A.0.6, Baseband M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015 and my X8 now seems to be un-rootable and I miss using froyo and gingerbread.

Do you have USB drivers installed?
First step, instal PC Companion, so that the drivers for your phone is installed (if already installed, skip)
Second, download Bin4ry's X10Flashtool v 0.2.9.1 (search it)
Third, Extract, run x10flashtool.exe
Fourth, enable USB DEBUG on Settings, Application, Development. on your phone
Fifth, Connect your phone via USB, do NOT mount the sdcard, simply press back when asked that 3 options
Sixth, Click root, and wait, done. check if there is superuser app on your phone, if not, try root it again.
Last month a go, my x8 with stock 2.1 just got new update from PC companion,, upgraded and nothing wrong with root proges, u miss someting when doing root I guess,,,,,

I think it way easier to use Super One Click.
Instal PC Companion, and connect it one time before you run SOC... skip if you already have drivers.
Download Super One Click... this one.
Enable USB debugging, connect phone to your PC, open SOC, click ROOT, wait, reboot. DONE!
I've used Super One Click like I've done in the past SU app appears in my app drawer. Root Checker says that I'm not rooted, but SystemApp Remover lets me remove system apps, so I'm rooted but I'm unable to install BusyBox. I've given up on trying to get BusyBox installed for now.

Download this. Extract. Copy that three files in sytem/bin using Root explorer. Reboot when done.
That's xrecovery and busybox. Only that version works
Heyy... I had the same problem with rooting once.... i tried the busybox by stericson i guess, from market. It solved the issue...
I've currently given up on rooting as my X8 got a software update notification when I was connected to my laptop so I'm curious as to what the update is.

Yes it is true. But X10Flashtool gives more than just Rooting your device, its also gives JiT, Xrecovery, and an automated APK Installer, and also it automatically install busybox when rooting, so why use SOC if you want do more than just rooting?
I just give a all-in-one solution, so that he dont download anything else anymore. (for rooting, jit, xrecovery)

I found out that the fake update was because I reverted to the 006 baseband from the 015 and removed some of the system apps that I don't use like wisepilot and Roadsync using System App remover, because it reverted back to baseband 015 and re installed the system apps that I removed.
Strange thing is that System App remover allowed me to remove system apps that needs root to do, while busybox install said that I wasn't rooted.
Will have a go at re rooting again as I quite like the look of ratchs Gingersense ROM.

@dare-devil, well, every other apps have problem so far, but X10flashtool don't, also, custom ROM doesnt have automated apk installer. Titanium backup? you have to install it first right?
Besides it's a VERY handy tool in case you brick your X8, because there will be a scenario where SEUS doenst want to update/reflash your phone, i have encountered that, thats why i use x10flashtool for flashing my phone.
@roland, of course, its created by Bin4ry and Androxyde. 2 great devs

It makes it easier than Super One Click as you don't have to mess around with downloading the Busybox Installer and then Installing Busybox.
I'm sure it'll save me having to put .apk's that I download off the forums onto my sd card and then Install using Root Explorer to install them one by one.

Go to HERE and download Flashtool 0.4.2.0, with it, you can root, install xrecovery and unlock bootloader, if you wish.
You need have android 2.3.3, and don´t downgrade kernel.
If you want, install stock firmware.
It´s easy.
right, so do i just click install recovery?
because i rooted it, exactly like that, im running busybox version 1.8.4 or something like that, someone told me it automatically installed xrecovery when i rooted it... is this true? thanks
When you root phone with flashtool, it just root your phone. For install xrecovery you need click on install xrecovery, and when it over, you have xrecovery installed.

Yes, you click the install recovery button. And no, when you root your phone, xrecovery is not added.
A little reminder also, you will never break the x10 by flashing to many times. So every time you run into something like accidentally downgrading kernels, just flash stock FW and start over. Again, the only true way for someone to permanently damage the x10 is only by damaging the USB port. So hold dear to that little port.
Hope you resolve your issue brah. Peace
is there anyway i can run flashtool and get it to recognise my phone without having to flash kernels?

Don't worry....you'll get ICS
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
You'll get stock SE ICS only providing 2 things:
1. You don't do the update using the PC suite and instead update Over The Air.
2. You update using whichever method you like and a rooting method is discovered again (in other words you lose the root and then root it again once that's possible).
Just rooting won't be any problem to use pc companion. But unlocking boot loader will. There are 3 methods of unlocking boot loader and some can effect updating to ICS via pc companion.
01.Unlocking boot loader with sony's official method will kill drm keys means no pc companion use = you will have to flash ICS update manually after ftf files makes it way to internet.
02.Using s1tool I am not entirely sure about this, bcos in some places I read you can use pc companion and in some places I read you cannot use pc companion after using s1tool.
03.Using setool2.This is paid method. But drm keys never will be killed and pc companion works fine.Means you can use pc companion(tested and works well on my Neo V ) to upgrade to ICS once its released

I have a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and I rooted it correctly. Then I try to update the software via PC Companion. When I am trying to update it says "Not Connect to the internet". But I have already connected to the internet with ADSL modem.
Then I try to manually do that. I downloaded and install the RecoverX ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227).
Then I run adb with "adb root recovery" command it says "adbd cannot run as root in production builds"
can anybody help me to figure this out. I am a newbie for these things and help me to update the software.
Thanks
I've never used RecoverX, so I don't know what did you do wrong.
search on the forum for 2.3.3 stock ROM, download it and then flash it with flashtool, check your drivers installed and usb debugging checked. Luck,
you have the drivers if you have pccompanion. download flashtool by bin4ry, its easy to use and can do evrything (but ****iing gold^^)
than search for "dixperia 7 avenger" by dikeJ. there you get 2.3.3 stock rom. or an excellent custom rom
in flashtool, if it can detect your root, install xrecovery (theres a panel "custom recovery installer")
and oit of that recovery you flash the zip file. if you dont have 2.3.3 kernel on your phone (if 2.3.3 is not available in your place), you will first have to flash the stock 2.3.3 kernel (i think also givin in dixperia 7 thread) download it and put it into "firmwares" in tje flashtool folder. then open it, wait till it verified your root and click flash, and chose the kernel. if it doesnt work, unlock
bootloader first (after verified root, click plugins and "unlock bootloader") i suggest you to do this in every way because then you wont have trouble

Hello guys, I need help because I cannot update my X10 mini pro U20. I already tried SEUS and PC Companion but it indicates that I already have the latest software installed.
I am using Android 1.6 and was hoping to update to 2.1 but the above hindrance wouldn't let me. I tried also repairing through PC Companion but it says that no software is available for my phone?
Please help... I tried using flashtool but I cannot understand it really.

What did you try to do with flashtool? Did you find and download 2.1-firmware for your phone that needed it?
Using flashtool to update your phone is just as easy as SEUS or PC Companion, but without the restriction that you can't update your phone

What a weird thing, when I checked my About Phone setting, I saw it was updated to 2.1 without me knowing. But now I have a problem, I can't use my wi-fi. It says 'Unable to scan networks.' I read I should re-flash, but I tried using flashtool, I put the firmware files on the firmware folder but when I flash, I do not see any selection though. I installed the latest flashtool.... though I cannot find the flash.bat -> I don't know if that's the right .bat name
