I flash it with flash tools. The first time i successfully enter the xrecovery, however, when i reflash with flash tool (literally giving it a hard reset), it cannot enter again. I even use sues to reflash it for safety, whats going on?
did you open the installed xrecovery app in your phone?
open it, click install located at the top of screen then when you see 3 checks beside the 3files (busybox, chargemon, xrecovery) then you're good to go.
reboot when you see "sony ericsson" at the start up, press back (maybe a couple of times to make sure it will access xrecovery)
additional info: i read in zdzihu's thread that install busybox(from the market) first before installing xrecovery.

try uninstalling the xrecovery app, delete the busybox, chargemon, xrecovery files in /system/bin. install busybox from market, wait til it says done. then install xrecovery again.

Thx for the help, problem solve by reusing your previous method.
I found out the flash tool's xrecovery and buzybox are quite outdated, i think i too depend on flash tool. After i install the latest version of buzybox at market and reinstall the ZDzihu xrecovery, everything goes fine, and i manage restore my backup again.

Hello I'm having the same problem too and I also followed your instructions... But in my case, I still can't go on Xrecovery. Would you have any advice for me?
I wanted to flash a custom rom with x recovery installer 0.1 but i always get this error when using the installer
>mkdir/data/local/tmp/xrecovery
Error>File exist
>Mount-o-rw-t yaffs2/dev/block/mtdblock0/data/locl/tmp/xrecovery
Error:Mountevice or resource busy
>rm-rf/data/local/tmp/xrecovery/*
Error>rm failed for -rf,No such file or directory
Android>2.1 Default xperia x8 firmware
The others were sucessful
I will recommend to re install your FW from SEUS or SE PC companion, root your phone again install root explorer and use the files from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881614&page=7 post 62, do exactly what it says there and you will be fine ... well it worked for me...
Regards
I found that using flashtool worked better and I could then boot into xrecovery so just install flashtool and use that to install xrecovery and it even has an option to reeboot straight into it

When USB plugin my Neo, screen goes on and if I wait 5 seconds then I can start it. But if I press and hold the Back key or the Menu key and plugin USB it doesn't go to flashmode or fastboot mode. I am not sure how it got the 0% battery problem but I can't get it to accept new kernels so I can resolve the issue.
I see they most phones go to flashmode and then is simply to write new kernel's and resolve the problem.
Please help someone if you know how I can write new kernels.
PS. Back and Menu key are working fine when using the phone.

2. If your bootloader is unlocked you would know about it becuase you have to do it yourself.
3 and 4. You have not rooted your phone yet. I suggest you read the sticky threads in order to find out how to.
1. root phone.
2. install recovery
3. unlock bootloader (Optional, but necassary if you want to flash kernels)
4 Flash custom roms (And kernels)
First place to look is in the the very first thread in the dev section. Download flashtool and start reading the threads.
I flashed NightElf Kernel mod for ICS Beta - that suport 0% Baterry workaround and now I have a working phone again. (without ned to be pluged in all the time)
Now I can't root my device. I tried from flashtool alt 3 options: force psneuter, force zergrush and force emulator. Also tried DoomLord's solution. Noting worked for me:

If you flashed that kernel then you are rooted.
The kernel comes pre rooted.
Try entering recovery mode.
Reboot phone and press back key when you see the sony logo
I entered in recovery mode.
From here i think i will manage to install Custom Rom.
Thanks.

i have Android 4.0.4, BB 72, Night-elf kenel - 2.6.32.9-v1_587, [email protected]_pureness_13.0

(in my NeoV the pureness is rooted ok because i can run applications that require root)

Solution.
Install superuser from play store.
Run it and click home button when you see the splash screen.
Then open supersu again, allow root rights, update su binary.
Then uninstall superuser app that you just downloaded
Please help me with my issue if you have a few minutes. I spent days searching all over for help on flashing the new cm10 on xperia X10 and watched many videos... I downloaded from w u a l a com/CMX10/Android the CM-10 ROM ZIP file version 8.1 to my microSD card and rename it "Update.zip" then I went to "xRecovery v0.3-release" and did "full wipe" then "wipe cash partition" then "wipe dalvik cash" and finally "Install custom zip" and installed Update.zip so xRecovery started processing but then it said Operation Aborted!!! what am I missing???
I tried instead to use the Flashtool v 0.9.8.0 (my xperia is rooted as per the flashtool "INFO - Root Access Allowed") and I read that I have to place the rom zip file in the "firemwares" folder of the flashtool, which I did, but I wasn't sure if I have to put the zip file the way it is or I have to extract the files first, or I have to put only some files there... I don't know!!! Anyway, when I click on the "Flash" button and choose "Flashmode" I can see a new listing on "Select a firmware" column but when I click on it, on the "Firmware content" column to the right I can only see kernel.sin and loader.sin and I saw in some videos there should be more files on the right column. So flash doesn't work accordingly....
Can someone please tell me what I should do exactly? I've read many sites talking about the process but none of them describe it step by step for beginners like me.
Thank you all for your amazing work and thanks to XDA for this great website!!!

Ah, ages ago I had the error you have highlighted in red when attempting to flash other Kernels.
The reason I was getting those errors was because my bootloader was locked.
I was SO sure my bootloader was unlocked I spent ages trying to look for other solutions.
But in the end I unlocked the bootloader and after that, everything else just fell into place.
Check out the following tutorial: Tutorial: Rooting, Bootloader Unlocking and Updating

AW: install CM10 to xperia X10
I would: Install stock x10 kernel from dixperia 7 thread (sry but i wont link it), called 2.3 only kernel and baseband. then download seony ericsson update service (seus), follow the instructions ther to reinstall the stock firmware and afterwards do the whole procedure. Flashtool: Root, plugins-> unlock bootloader, flash-> cm10 kernel. then you boot up the phone and press any button when the led lights up.
then in clockwordmod you do a factory reset and wipe dalvik cache and install your rom ("update.zip")
then you boot it up and have cm10. dont forget gapps

Thank you, I did what you said, but when the new CM10 kernel screen appeared (blue) I repeatedly pressed the Back button and then I only got a black screen, not CWM (eventhough I have CWM installed and access to Superuser granted)... Actually after that point, my xperia kept on rebooting with the blue CM10 screen non stop...

Hey thanks man, I really appreciate it. That was the missing piece that nobody was talking about in all the search I did. Unfortunately, I still can't access CWM after the blue CMX10 appears...
Flash a cm7 kernel and enter cwm recovery and install the rom then pull battery out after it has installed then flash the cm10 kernel that's how I did it to install it as your meant to have a cm9 based rom already installed before installing a cm10

Flash CM9 kernel first use flashtool then go to CWM install rom and so others, pull out battery then flash CM10 kernel via flashtool.

Thanks to all those who replied to my problem. After days of reading, watching youtube videos, and flashing/rooting my device a few times, CM10 is now installed on my xperia X10 and works great, despite the lag that I experience from time to time. It's amazing that Jelly Bean can run on a device 2 - 3 years old.
I guess the big challenge for beginners like me is that the instructions found all over the internet are, generally, not detailed enough. The instructions sometimes don't mention a specific detail because they assume the user already knows it.
Maybe I should create my own thread and make it as detailed as possible haha
Thanks again all!!!!!!!!

E:Can't open /sdcard/cmx10-v9.4.zip (bad) installation aborted.
Hello everyone.
I'm a noob yet trying to get my X10 to be a bit cooler than it is now.
I have my phone rooted, I have CWM, bootloader unlocked. I flashed Scritch007's newest kernel (v21) and tried installing CM10 v9.4 ROM. (I got these files from link to wuala website, found at scritch's page)
And I got a message:
E:Can't open /sdcard/cmx10-v9.4.zip
(bad)
installation aborted.
I tried re-downloading the zip file and installing it again - same thing. I tried downloading the older version of this ROM - nothing changed.
I'm using Xperia X10, 2.3.3 stock, Baseband ver 2.1.71.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thank you for responding!!!, but it's still not working. I went to Scritch007 discussion thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024438 and read his Installation Guide and did like he said and place the Kernel "X10_4.1.X_cmx10_BootManager_v18.ftf" in the Firmware folder of the Flashtool v 0.9.8.0 and I got this error below. Can you tell what it means please?
