A few days ago, my phone shut down while it was sitting on my desk. When I turned it back on, it was stuck in airplane mode, and under about phone, hardware and baseband were both unknown. I reflashed my modem to dj05, and it worked again, except it just did it again. Any idea what's going on?
I would recommend a full Odin, then a factory reset in the settings.

I got a droid eris from a friend who switched to that apple thingy. It is still going to be a bit before I can get it activated, so I started playing with it. When I first got it, he had wiped and factory reset it, and it would connect to 3g and get signal. I skipped activation for now. Here's what I did in order:
I followed this guide http://theunlockr.com/2010/09/22/how-to-root-the-htc-droid-eris-unrevoked-method/ to get clockworkmod recovery installed.
I installed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944430 and once again just skipped activation. I set up wifi and discovered the world of android
Today I noticed there were no signal bars and an "x" by them when I turned off airplane mode. On the lock screen it said "No Service". My verizon razr gets full bars so I know I'm in range. After trying a few things like reflashing cyanogen, I followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026 and used the rom that also flashes the radio.
It's now un-rooted, clockworkmod is gone, and its on the stock 2.1 verizon firmware. It still says "No service". I'm at a loss. Did I permanently destory this phone somehow, or is there a way to fix this and get cyanogen back on and working with service?
Update: After trying activation about 10 times and constantly getting a no service error, I decided to try to manually program a verizon prl. I went to emergency call and did a ##3424# to go into usb programming mode for QXDM. Out of nowhere...SERVICE! I backed out and hit Activate and viola! Automated voice lady was there to tell me it couldn't activate(yet). I powered the phone down and put it on a shelf. I'm not touching the dang thing until I get it activated. Now I'm wondering a few things. First, what the heck happened? Second, after I get it activated, is there a chance this will happen again after rooting and installing cyanogen?
As soon as you activate it, it should be fine

Right, but the state it was in I couldn't activate it. I somehow randomly got it to be able to activate again if you see my update tho.
I just know from experience that when I forgot to pay my bill a while back, I did not have any service bars or anything until I called them up later that day and reactivated it. It seems like when you first got the phone for some reason even though it wasn't activated it showed that the phone had a data signal. I could be misinterpreting the issue though.

I've had that happen a couple times flashing themes.
Wiped data/cache fixed once other time never figured it out, just reformated sys/data/cache and flashed sbf.
All was back to norm then. :s

That's weird. But from a first boot 100% stock the phone still connects to the network. Otherwise there's no way to get it activated. So no matter what, when functioning properly on a cdma network it should have bars if you're in range of a tower. Now it is functioning properly, and I have signal at the initial setup and activation screen.
Hi, I've noticed that sometimes when I go into a weak signal area (buildings, underground, etc.) and the data drops off, whenever I go back to an area with a strong signal, the data symbol does not reappear and data does not work. Once I restart the phone, everything works fine. Not the biggest fuss, but if there's a fix for it, any help would be greatly appreciated.
what rom are you running?
what kernel are you running?
what modem are you running?
try toggling from airplane mode and then see if data comes back.
Sorry for the late reply, but the problem seems to be nonspecific to a ROM, kernel or modem. I've tried most of the 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROMs hanging around in the Dev forum, and I have been able to repeat the issue for all of them. Turning the phone to airplane mode and reverting does not work, it requires a full restart.
The problem may in fact be with my carrier, as I'm actually using the Vibrant in Canada on Mobilicity, which does not officially support the phone. However, I have not heard reports of the same issue. As I said, it is not overly major, but any more input would be appreciated.
I have the same problem in the past, first I changed sim card to my carrier because they said that that's the one causing the problem but that didn't helped at all.
So I try different modem, still no good. I stayed away from kb1 kernel and now I don't have that problem anymore.
You should try using a stock 2.1 rom or JI6 too.

Evertime I startup my phone with wifi on, the com.android.phone process crashes. I'm not able to connect to mobile network or enter my sim pin. If I boot the phone without wifi enabled, it boots normally. I've tried several factory resets, but the problem is still there. I've also tried changing simcard.
Anyone else with this problem, suggestions? I'm afraid I'll have to return it for repair/exchange.
Btw this is a XT910, european version.

Yup I sometimes have the same issue, but not all the time. I just normally reboot and its sorted. Bit of a pain but not a major issue to me and since I installed the update its not happened yet. UK unbranded handset

update? is that the one mentioned in the dev forums? Any idea if its going to be pushed over the air or is it only available via manual update?
(sorry to hijack, I also get this issue but rather than rebooting I go into the mobile network settings and just get it to scan for cellular networks and it usually comes back)
Yep, the leaked OTA update for the GSM RAZR in the dev forums does fix this issue - at least, it has for me so far. Also fixed a bunch of others I had.

cool.. any idea when its coming officially?
Your guess is as good as mine. Didn't initially sit too well with me since we don't have a shipped ROM to flash back to, but I figure, when an official OTA does hit, we can just flash it over this one.

ok, no worries.. will wait patiently with fingers crossed .. Phone working ok apart from a few quirks and at least we know there's at least some update out there (which hopefully moto won't scrap)

Had the same issue. Restarting without the wifi solved the problem. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward for an official fix!
Try clear data of phone app. It should solve the issue. If not. Creat a back up then factory reset.
I wgot this problem when update the phone and this way help.

Tank you ianford10, rebooted with wifi off and it works well...
Hoping in a fast update, I turn off the phone quite often to reset it...
If you don't care much about your settings you can always do a full wipe. It worked in my case. Kind of painful but you'll get a working wifi. You can always use some backup software (ex. Titanium Backup) to save your texts, settings etc.
I have this too. But it coz I install MotoHomeFix.app. After I uninstal it, my razr back to normal.
I was sitting here playing with my Acer Iconia A500 tablet, and went to send a text to my wife. I noticed that I didn't have any service which is strange since I have full bars in my room normally. Toggled airplane mode on and off, restarted the phone, even did a factory reset, but the phone just won't connect to any cell towers. There is no physical damage done to the phone, and it worked perfectly fine an hour before this. I was running CM7, but now I'm back on stock since AT&T said they would send me another. However, I apparently bought a refurb so the 90 day warranty is already long past which means I have to fork out for a new phone.
I'd really prefer not to. I'd like to just get the phone working properly again. Anyone have any ideas?
Reset your apns or try doing a fastboot wipe. I had that happen when the first one doesn't work do a fastboot wipe and then if you want use a fruitcake of your choice.

Alright, here I go.
Yes, I searched the forum, and I can't wrap my head around this at all, so I'm just going to throw my specs out and hope for the best.
- T-mobile Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S T-959
- NOT unlocked...although I'm not sure, the phone seems to try and pick up AT&T but it's labeled as a Tmobile phone
- Using a Tmobile SIM (brand new replacement, works on other phones just fine)
- Rooted and Flashed to Hellybean Stable 15.11.12
- Generic IMEI (004999010640000)
Whenever I rebooted the phone after root/flash a week and a half ago, it would give me the IMEI mismatch warning but everything worked fine. It was only this afternoon that I jumped on the bus, took out my phone, and suddenly could not connect to any mobile network at all. I've restarted and cried and sat in a corner and now I don't know. It connects to Wifi just fine and that's how I've been getting by, but it'd be nice to text/sms again...
I kept running into this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30644270&postcount=116
But it makes no sense to me. Copy it to what folder? Where is /efs? I only have one /efs folder and it's in /sdcard/backup.
Before I return to stock and try to flash all over again, I want to try and fix this.
The same thing happened to me today!
I don't know what is going on. I flashed another modem but the problem is not solved.
I'll try Odin back to stock but it is not seeing my phone. That's another problem anyway.
I'll let you know if I get it to work.
Ok, it works now, but I still don't know if it was the generic IMEI or something else.
I went back to stock and it automatically connected so I could make calls and use internet. This also restored my IMEI
Then I rooted and installed CM7 and then Slim Bean and now everything works as usual with my restored IMEI.
Here you have all you need for Odin: http://www.team-passion.com/index.php/wiki/general/15-how-to-use-odin-for-vibrant

Ahh shucks. Don't want to hijack your thread, but now my Vibrant is having connection problems too :crying:
It all happened when I let a friend borrow my phone to use his SIM card. It was a simple mobile SIM card and a day later when I tried to make a call, I got a "not registered on network" when I tried to make a call.
I was running bionix-v fishman so I odined back to stock to make sure it wasnt a ROM issue, and still have the same problems.
I still have a IMEI working and I can still get bars, but cant make any calls whatsoever. Not even emergency calls.
So back to my very old Motorola Backflip. But I can't seem to wonder how this happened when my friend used his sim card. So I know the problem is not my SIM card because it works on my older phone.
I'm still using the very old full SIM-card that is at least 2-years old and not the newer ones. Because my friend's SIM was brand new, you think that may have to do its the problem?
Any help appreciated. Heres a similar thread to my problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890353
Okay, this went from bad to worse to a nightmare.
My friend tried the Odin then back to Hellybean for me, and nothing changed at all.
So I went into recovery mode and tried to restore from an old system restore point.
After loading that my phone was permanently stuck on the Vibrant SAMSUNG screen.
I hunted around and found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330252
After a few tries I managed to get it into download mode and tried it, nothing changed.
Except now that I've moved on and tried to use Odin to just unroot it won't even go into recovery or download mode, it gets stuck on this screen:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BDDLnUcCMAEqvkQ.jpg
or just the Vibrant start screen.
helpppp

OK I'm going to use ur thread. I rooted my sgs1 seven hours after I got it. When it was a new phone. Have been running all kinds of roms. Somewhere along the line I lost my backup. But it was never really a problem. My imei is generic and couldn't make 911 calls but no worries there. I was running 4.2.2 something something using my phone. Then my battery was running low so I switched it with another and when it booted up no signal from that point on. I put my sim in my old g1 and it works. Put my wife's sim in my phone and a no go. Everything works wifi Bluetooth usb .....except won't connect to t mobile. I Odin back to stock and no luck. Imei still generic. Called tmobile no help at all. Funny thing is though it won't let me connect it shows I have a voicemail so its sending a signal and receiving one. I think if I had a way to put a new imei on it I would be OK. Another funny thing is my imei is the same number as the one posted above. So thinking it got picked up and blocked and that's why i m not getting service. I love this phone and would like to fix it if I can.does anyone have any ideas.
