[Q] Cut, Copy, Paste - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I love this phone but hate the copy paste. The stock android works so much better. Is there any way that could be replaced by a ROM? Any sugestions are welcome. I'm sure I'm not the only on feeling it....

I want to see that giant orange cursor disappear. It's so damn annoying. Playing around on the Inspire 4G with its 2.3.X and newer Sense makes copy and paste look really horrible on our phones.

Which Keyboard?

Hey everyone on xda,
I've been looking for a good keyboard that gives a good amount of space for typing. I don't care for the word prediction/auto correct features I usually turn those off because they're more of a bother than something that helps. I have tried swype (was ok but never truly cared for it) and the gingerbread keyboard (currently using, but the keys are a little to small) and I would like to know what your preference is for a keyboard.
TLDR - Which keyboard do you prefer?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if you flash axura, it comes with a modded htc sense keyboard which is awesome. The only bad thing about it is it doesnt respond as fast as gingerbread keyboard.
I personally like swipe and the GB one. The stock samsung keyboard isn't so bad either it offers plenty of space. Like stated above, you might like the HTC one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416 look for the right one. There's some screenshots in there as well.
I'm a big fan of SwiftKey - currently half price on the market ($1.99 down from $3.99). I know you stated you don't like prediction/auto-complete, but SK's is terrific. I find myself able to type much faster with it than any other keyboard.
Alright thanks for all the replies. Would I be able to take the .apk file of the htc keyboard from the axura rom? I have looked at the swiftkey keyboard but I don't feel that spending cash on a keyboard is worth it when they're great keyboards that are free.

I also like SwiftKey and the voice input on SK seems to work better than the one on stock Android keyboard.
Bump to see if I would be able to take the HTC keyboard apk from the Axura rom and push it onto my phone through root manager.

this is htc_ime. just download and unzip. install the apk like you normally would from your SD card.
if you feel adventurous, use the htc_ime keyboard kitchen to make a custom keyboard for yourself. its super easy.
hit thnx
Thanks for all the replies and the link .
Edit: Can't hit the thanks button the xda app doesn't support it <.<

Replacement Keyboard Suggestions?

So I'm pretty much pissed off at the stock HTC keyboard, and Swype doesn't work for me, so I'm wondering what keyboard is worth installing to replace.
I've tried Swiftkey and Smart Keyboard, but they both have problems with double letters when typing fast.
What keyboards are you all using with your 3VO?
Im using Smart keyboard pro and I have problems with it not responding sometimes. I need a better keyboard also. I can't stand the htc one.
if you don't dig swype (and it is an acquired taste I'll admit) I would then recommend swift....
...don't dig swift? Well, almost every other keyboard out there (that isn't trying be either be "swype2" or super unique) will be the same (at best) or worst.
Do swift...have it learn from your txts....srsly, how does that not work for you?
got the old ginge keyboard, seems to be ok.. space bar is a little small..
I was leaning towards the GB stock keyboard, just need to find a modified apk for one with the smilie key. I miss that from my rooted EVO.
I'll probably give into Swift, just was curious what everyone else uses.
Check out hackers keyboard. Its pretty cool.

I downloaded the Swift Beta from the marketplace, seems pretty good, no issues so far with double letters.
I really dig thumb keyboard 4.
The ability to split the keyboard while in landscape so Tue keys are closer to the sides has actually made me want to type in landscape.

I really really miss the GB keyboard. I tried the apk I had from the Evo as well as the one from the market, both not sized for our screens(too small). I'm surprised no update either
Hackers has an ass load of options. I like you can change the overall size it takes up on the screen.
Though I have the full version of SwiftKey, I find the SwiftKey x beta works best for me.

I'm loving flex t9. it's way better than swype imo. plus I got it free from Amazon app a day. I would have bought otherwise. you can trace, write, or voice command it.

the more it learns the better it works.....make sure to let it learn periodically....or make it....also only pick the language modules you need...trust me....I thought I'd shot for flexibility....pfft....more like shooting for randomization--the same applies for swype, lol.

Screen Density (Resolution)

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section...
To change your screen density (resolution)
1. Download ES File Explorer from the market.
2. Open ES, hit the menu key.
3. Enable root explorer.
4. Mount /system as writable.
5. Go to phone root folder, then /system.
6. Open "build.prop" in ES File Editor.
7. Scroll to "ro.sf.lcd_density=240".
8. Change to your liking (lower numbers equal higher resolution, vice versa. I find 190 to be a sweet spot, looks amazing on this screen.).
If you find this useful, please thank.

Is anything effected by this change meaning will certain things not display properly?
I've only found that pandoras buttons ate a little small. What's cool is that whille the predictions are smaller on top of the keyboard (which shows more predictions ), the keys adjust to stay the same exact size. Man, android is freaking amazing...

i tried it, i dont know if using an older version made it incompatible with the 3vo but i always had force closes with it and if it would work it would never boot, the screen would remain black and this is resizing to 200
Thanks @ 290 I like letters that resemble the EVO 4G. I had enough miniature text with the Hero !

I've been using it for a couple hours now and, so far, the gesture/swiping (or whatever you want to call it) recognition is decent but not as reliable/accurate as Swype or even the 4.2 keyboard. Swift key has been my favorite keyboard for a while now so I'm definitely looking forward to this coming along.

its awsome, i love the new space swipe thing. Only thing i miss is the left swipe to delete the last word you typed.
It's not bad. Sometimes it's pretty laggy visually, other times it's fine.

in my experience today i have found it to be exteremly responsive and FAR more accurate then the sense keyboard or 4.2 for that matter. I ditched swype a while ago but I'm in love with this thing. Is everyone set up for precise or rapid? rapid has yeilded better responses when gesture typing for me
Liking it mostly. I just don't like that I can't click on a word and have it bring up other words you might have wanted, ala what swype does. I find myself having to change quite a few words.
Anyone get the flow without a space for a sentence to work? I tried it on a pretty basic sentence and it just double vibrated at me and did nothing.
Kind of a lag on a tablet but I like the effects going to try this on my nex4

Really bugs me that in a "name" field or box, it won't let me swype. Have to enter each letter individually. Haven't found the setting to change that yet...
So far I'm really liking it! Honestly I never really liked the "swipe" style typing but I've been using it on the stock HTC keyboard and now I'm hooked! I have been a huge fan of swift key and have the pro version paid for four a long while now.. Their predictive text is just great and adding the swipe text "flow" is really cool.

May be it's the amount of time I've spent on Swype, I didn't find flow as accurate and fast as Swype
I've been using swype for a couple years and this seems to get what I'm trying to type better and definitely seems smoother, I do miss a few things from swype though like the swype button to a, x , c, and v for select all and copy paste. Is there a different way of doing this or just not available?

Its still in beta and there is a feedback link within the settings of the app im sure they are open to suggestions!
and im definitely and advocate for swype but i find the individual key entry which is so necessary to be far to clunky and innacurate where as this finds a happy medium that im very satisfied with. also folks remember this is beta so they will be releasing a polished version sooner or later. if you have complaints voice them from within the apps feedback section
I find the prediction on Flow to be worse than Swype, but it would be servicable if not for not showing multiple predictions when typing on a word. If you make a mistake it takes a while to correct it, but that's to be expected with a beta. It has potential working off of SwiftKey 3's great prediction software.

Post-JB Update - Back to old keyboard?

I literally hate the new keyboard that got installed with the new update. I also prefer good old fashioned typing to using Swype.
Anybody got a way to go back to the ICS keyboard?

Good call, I didn't even think of that. I'll kick around and see if I can find something a bit closer to what the stock keyboard was. After 6 months, I just can't go to the new one. My fingers aren't smart enough.
In the meantime, here's to hoping someone can point me at the actual stock keyboard from ICS!
EDIT:
I actually like this one better than the original ICS keyboard that was shipped w/ this phone: Link

I'll check it out.
In the end, I just really liked the stock ICS keyboard that came on the LTE.
I can live with the new keyboard but I just need to know how to hide it. The ICS keyboard had a hide button in the bottom left corner, the new one doesn't have one at all that I can find. Sometimes pressing the back arrow next to the home button on the bottom of the phone will make the keyboard go away after typing so I can see and press a send button but sometimes that will take me back to the previous screen and I'll lose everything I just typed.
What's wrong with it? It works great for me. They even let you remove the arrows at the bottom so that they aren't in the way like in ics... And if you wanna close it, hit back. Its rather simple really... And the swipe feature works great.
