Will X Recovery Backup, backing up sms data and contactcs data?
Yes everything
I was trying to instal slade87_v2_CM6.zip to replace the owains final and i cant do, gives an error:
-: Failure at line 51
symlink busybox
you are the first one having this issue.
Try to download the file again.
Then boot into xrecovery and install again
then try to boot if you are stuck at se boot in xrecovery and partiontools- format data/cache
and boot again.
(make backup before doing so)
i had it once that xrecovery wouldn't accept any update zip after rebooting and going back to xrec it worked.
I will try again and give feedback later.
The full error quote:
E: Can't symlink /System/Xbin/[
E: Failure at line 51:
symlink busybox SYSTEM/xbin/[
Installation aborted!
Done.
Install works fine now, but stuck on SE first screen, then reboot ang goes to a boot loop.
i'll try again.
I've finally your rom working, but i've some problems.
- process com.sonyericsson.android.textinput stops. try again.
and i cant write sms with screen keyboard
- when i try to install aplications, the progress bar of instalation progress frezzes and the phone restarts.
do you know how to fix that?

Everything works fine now.
I've made a factory reset and a clean install, and now for the first time i've a fully funcional rom without major bugs or problems.
Great work! Thanks!

i think what i need is a complete odin install... back to stock for wifi
Been running ICS M4 just fine for a while, I did an app update in market and it crashed. rebooted and it freezes on Kang logo. I have done every wipe I can in CWM and I get no where.
Doing 'fix permissions' or factory wipe, neither one will finish, factory will not finish ad just reboot on its own.
i tired installing a diff ROM or two that i have on it already, same thing, freezes on boot animations.
I cant find a COMPLETE odin install.... open to any help and thanks for your time.

http://www.sammobile.com/
they have all the stock odin flashable firmwares available for download there.
oh and if you get stuck at a boot logo loop after stock rom flash, do a factory restore and clear cache using the stock recovery (it happened to me). you can then start over with the root/cwm/custom rom process if you want.
did that, thanks... after odin finished it reboots. says:
# maunal mode #
---Updating Aplications ---
copying ' XAB ' apk
copying common Apks.
holds there for 10 seconds and reboots right back to that as i typed.
If i boot into recovery, as soon as i click the icon to actually goto recovery it reboots to what I typed above.
I have also reflashed cwm recovery and can get to recovery then flash a rom, but it still freezes during boot animations.... ugh.
I fixed it! I used the overcome guide here...
the prob with samobile file was there was no PIT. once I got that out of the overcome DL It was ok and booted just like the guide said... from there i reflashed CWM recovery.tar. since I could boot in to HC I could transfer a new aokp ICS rom and all is good

Hi!
I've been strugling with this problem for a while now. Every time I go to CWM and pick a zip file to flash, it starts writing log, but as soon as it hits the point "Opening update file", it gets stuck there. I waited for an hour, and it just didn't progress. I had CWM work before. Oddly, I can still install Gapps.zip and CM9nightly.zip(I'm using CM9 now, because there ain't no choice...[not saying it's bad rom, it's just greedy for battery])
And sometimes, it won't get stuck there, but instead it aborts the install and says
"E:can't open /sdcard/update-Arconium-ICS-v7.zip
(Bad)
Installation aborted."
(obviously update-Arconium is the rom I try to install)
I have tried to format my SD card couple of times, but it made no difference.
I've tried wiping data, dalvik and cache. No difference.
I've tried corresponding kernels. Again, no difference.
Is there anything I can do?
All help appreciated. Thank you!
have u try to download one more time this ROM maybe its not good or try to update CWM
I dont think that is kernell problem
ZOMG! Got it work! Dunno how exactly though.
Possible could have been a corrupted zip file.
Hi guys.
I got a problem.
Got tired of lags, so i decided to wipe (data + dalvik) and reinstall Omega 27.1.
Now i can't boot up the phone - it just starts up CWM (6.0.1.2) when i reboot. Have tried to pull battery and when i insert it recovery just comes up.
What have i missed?
I have tried to install again, with and without wipes but still the same.
Can't restore nandroid either. Getting error on restoring /data, and just comes back to CWM again.
I'm kinda stuck.. ideas?
EDIT:
Just did a nandroid restore, error on restoring /data as always, but i rebooted and got into Android. I had to type in my google account information again, and all apps crashes all the time.
So I rebooted to recovery, and installed 27.1 (did a full wipe again), and now i can't get past recovery again.
Wtf?

Yes, it seems to be the only thing to do..
But does anyone know what is causing this?
Can't be the boot.img, because restoring the boot (wipes+restores) doesn't work. And installing a new rom also adds a new boot.img.
I just flashed CM10.1 (23/03/2013) using CWM v6.0.3.0, followed trough every step of the tutorial, the ROM runs just fine but I just can't install gapps. (Trying gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zp)
Here's what i get:
- Finding update package...
- Opening update package...
- Installing update...
- Installing Google Apps for Android 4.2.2..
- Mouting system...
- Copying files...
- Fixing Permissions...
- Unmounting system...
- Installation complete!
Install from sdcard complete.
Then I wipe Dalvik cache, wipe data/factory reset and reboot.
And then... Nothing! It's just not showing up. Can anyone help me out? Am I doing something wrong?
PS.: I also getting that yellow warning sign once i downgraded to CWM v6.0.2.9, as CM10.1 tutorial asked. Any thoughts?

after installing the Gapps package do not wipe data/factory reset ma8, just wipe Cache/dalvik and then reboot phone
Got an improvement but not quite there yet. Tried to install an older version of gapps (for 4.0 android) and got a message when rebooting ("Unfortuantely, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped)
Then it got locked on that messagind (it kept looping it around).
So then I went back to CWM and reinstalled updated gapps. Now I got the same message, but the phone booted. I successfully logged in to google account, but every time I reboot my phone I get that same message again.
One more thing. CWM 10.1 don't roll down status bar with updates and I just don't have a lock screen.
Any thoughts?

Hello,
I have a Kobo 10HD and rooted and installed CWM v6.0.5.1. I made a backup before and then installed Titanium Backup update.zip. Installation of that zip caused a bootloop (back to CWM). No problem, I thought, I can just restore the backup I made. No dice. I tried to restore the backup and still bootlooping. I even tried to installed the stock ROM ZIP and it fails with the message: (from recovery.log):
nv_copy_blob_file: couldn't get the device path
script aborted (no error message)
script aborted (no error message)I:Legacy property environment disabled.
E:Error in /data/media/0/macallan-ota-932.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I have read that some people have had success installing this zip using stock recovery, but I have no idea how to get stock recovery.
Also, I noticed using adb shell that CWM does actually put all the files back into system and other areas during the restore. Upon reboot, and subsequent bootloop, the system files are gone. It must have something to do with an automatic script that is running after restore.

After a few more hours of fiddling, I was able to get the device back up. I wiped absolutely everything manually with CWM (format /X) instead of Wipe/Factory Reset. The factory reset was not clearing the SD card, but format/data and /data/media cleared it. I then applied the stock zip that is available via adb sideload. Installation failed with the same error, but I rebooted with the adb reboot command. The device booted back into Kobo stock requiring several updates. It actually got stuck repeating one update several times until I booted back into stock recovery and cleared data and did a factory reset. The update applied correctly and then another upgrade came (a total of three upgrades). I rooted again and we are back in business.
For some reason, I think the key step was manually wiping /data/media. I'm not exactly sure why this would cause a bootloop for CWM restore. Anyway, I hope this helps someone else who may run into a similar issue.
Hi zhzhou!
Just a quick question:
do you happen to remember if stock recovery for Kobo was CWM? I'm in process of restoring stock ROM +recovery and little bet surprised to see CWM after flashing stock recovery
Thanks a lot!

Stock was definitely not CWM. It was a long time ago and I no longer have the device, but I think CWM was still present after restoring stock. I think you'll need fastboot if you want to flash the stock recovery image back on. But why do that? TWRP is now available for the device.
Thanks for quick reply! I had CM on it but had some artifact issues so wanted to revert to full stock, even recovery
