Can someone create voodoo color and sound v8 for vibrant 2.2 and 2.2.1 Roms?
Voodoo sound and color are optimizations for hardware used only in kernels (not ROMs) for the Galaxy S. You can find more info here.
Most of the custom kernels here already include that and the ext4 lagfix. One of the most popular is Overstock, I think. A lot of ROMs already include such kernels, too.
I'm using Trigger ROM with Bali kernel.
He's asking about the 8th version though, we currently run the 7th on Vibrant.

It does? My bad then, didn't know that.

Bali is not a kernel that I can overclock. It may have version 8 but no OC. Boring. Lol
if you buy the paid voodoo control app, you will always get the latest voodoo sound.
As for the voodoo color that the NS/CM7 has, that won't come to our phones for a long time, if ever.

Well I had my mind made up on Supercurio's KA6 Build with Voodoo and after some reading I came across this person's rom s0niqu3 (KA6+voodoo+bln+cifs), I just want a rom that is basicly the Samsung KA6 build, but speed up so my phone doesnt lag. Which one should I use?
You mean kernel, when we refer to 'roms' we're talking about the framework, theming, and applications that make up the software that sits on top the kernel.
To answer your question though, you will do just fine with one of supercurio's stock+voodoo kernels. Very reliable and the lag fix is totally worth it...will probably save you hours of fiddling/waiting for the UI over the lifetime of the phone.

the new bionix-v rom is very quick and it isn't to far off from looking stock when you get the touchwiz version.
Do these and you can't go wrong.

I still suggest Eugene's GingerClone R2. I have been using this for about 2 months and it is still the best performing ROM that I've experienced for the Vibrant.
Trigger 2.6.2
It has the kernel you want (voodoo, voodoo sound, voodoo color and almost completely stock). The ROM is stable, no known bugs that I'm aware of. Beautifully themed too.
Edit, just saw .3 was released. I would load it up, get it running how you like, and then flash s0niqu3s kernel on top of it. I do feel it's better than KA7+voodoo.
Alright, so I've been rooting phones for about a year now, but I have zero experience with the Fascinate (have worked on Eris and DInc before now) and my buddy wants me to help him root his phone. I've been reading for a while now, and there's one thing I haven't been able to figure out.
What is the deal with Voodoo? Is there an appreciable difference in performance between a non-Voodoo and a Voodoo kernel? Are there drawbacks to either?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Voodoo is code that is developed by supercurio. There are many branches of voodoo, including color, sound, and lagfix. Each aims to improve upon what Samsung has given us.
Color improves the color contrast of your screen if it is too blue or too red.
Sound is a fix that utilizes the driver inside of our phones to improve gain and give us new options
Lagfix converts all partitions from samsung's rfs file system format to ext4 and yields speed benefits
I am not 100% that my terminology is correct. Please correct me if anybody sees something is wrong.

IMO, voodoo is the only way to go. It is an overall improvement of your phone experience.

So Voodoo kernels contain one or more of these fixes?
Voodoo is basically the conversion of Samsung's RFS file system used in the Galaxy S phones to the more native EXT4 file system.
It also contains improvements such as color, sound, and such.

Nice. Thanks for the info guys.
So are there any drawbacks to using a voodoo kernel?

The only drawback that I have found is that given the slim amount of ROMs we posses here in the Fascinate community.... running a voodoo kernel can limit that a little more.
Also usually when updates roll out from source voodoo takes a little longer to come out.
But in all honesty there is very little in the way of drawbacks. Plus if you don't like it? Flash a regular kernel!
With the recent editions of Voodoo Color and Sound I would see even less reason to not use it.
I'm running Trigger 2.9.2 and was wondering which kernel everyone who is also running an EDT rom is using, since I can't decide what to pick.

I rocking Trigger 2.9.2 with the latest Overstock kernel, OC'd at 1.2 ghz
Im rockin the overstock 1.5.2 thats under volted. Its been rock solid for me. If you dont care about battery life the use the OC'd version. You cant go wrong with Overstock!
lol uhm.. stock ka6 with voodoo sound 7, voodoo color, bln.
* no FPS uncap, no oc/uv, no memory hacks, no fancy splash screen or any other thing drastic *
keeping it nice, simple and clean
I'm running Bi-Winning and the latest Bullet alpha (not an official release) kernel. So amazing.
Enjoying Bullet 1.484 when I'm near a charger and Overstock 2.4.1 when I'm not (Bi-Winning). The Bullet kernels are so damn fast but so is the battery drain. Still playing with settings to see if I can stretch it out a bit. Cmenard makes amazing kernels!!
I'm just worried since I've never installed kernels, and now I want to start getting my feet wet with them and I'm taking baby steps in completely customizing my phone. If I don't like one can I just flash over or do I need to back up my current one?!

I've got about 5 saved on my sd card. Put a few different ones on your sd and try them out. If you get one you don't like boot into recovery and flash a new one. If you flashed Trigger you'll have no problem flashing kernels. It's the same process but much quicker.

I'm sure they will eventually make it to XDA, but right now there alpha kernels. Unless your feeling a little generous you probably won't find them.

get a voodoo kernel like overstock, dragonmodz, bali
pretty much all kernels have voodoo i think
yup. Also there are some stock kernel with just voodoo added, so you'll basically be running stock just the added effects of voodoo with no other customizations like BLN, Overclocking, etc. There should be a thread with all the kernels in the vibrant bible i think.
thanks i wasnt sure if it was that easy.
Has anyone been able to get Darky's ROM (any version) to work on a rooted Samsung Fascinate I500, I know it works on the I9000 but can't get it to work on my Verizon Fascinate?

That's for GSM phones, not CDMA like ours. So no, it doesn't work for us, unless someone port it over.
Also, this needs to be in Q&A.

According to navenedrob, we can port i9000 roms yo the Fascinate. He's supposed to release something soon. Idk how well that's going though.

Yeah, I'm running Com ROM 2.0 now, but I was wanting darky's rom because of the speed it has. My friend has a T Mobile version of the fascinate with darky's on it and it's so much faster than mine, his benchmark score is usually 3300 while mine is only about 950.
Then you're not running voodoo....

I assume you're scoring is Quandrant based.
The rom, no matter which it is, will guarantee results like that. However, if you are scoring in the 900s I'd say you are not voodoo enabled. Voodoo will double that score. If you want higher, you will need to over clock. AOSP roms run much faster because they trim the touchwiz "fat", and when overclocked to the experimental 1600mhz, can produce 3000+.
But as usual. Quadrant scores should be weighted so heavily.
it says that voodoo is enabled, which ASOP rom do you recommend

It may say voodoo enabled if using an older cwr, even if it is not really enabled.
As long as you are using a voodoo kernel, choose the option to enable voodoo and reboot. If you hear the female voodoo voice, then you will be taken through voodoo conversion. You will then notice a difference in speed.
As for aosp roms, miui or cm7, however, considering the lack of a source code from Samsung, the devs here have had to piece things together as they come up with them, which thus far has been amazing , however, if you make a jump to either of these roms, be forewarned that mms is not functional, and since both these roms convert your partitions, if you ever want to go to any other rom, you will have to Odin back to stock and recreate your original partitions.
Personally I would recommend getting used to your phone before jumping to aosp
Correction.... mms working on miui so expect both to be updated soon with fully functional mms.

if you base this off quadrant, 1 voodoo is disabled or u are using an rfs kernel...and your friend is mostly likely running voodoo and overclocked to like 1.6 or something...not a good comparison...but honestly ive never heard of an sgs 1 phone hitting that high on a touchwiz rom
Just an fyi. Im Running cm7 overclocked to 1.5ghz scored 2700+ on quadrant.
