Hi,
Can someone tell me how much is the free memory (RAM) after reboot?
Thanks
There is no free memory, you have to pay for every byte of it.
Now learn to use the search function, I have already answered this question in this forum.
Don't take my word for it, but i have heard that around 700-800mb is free after boot.
Lol

very disappointed

Yes, that was very helpfull. I did it btw but the result was 125 pages long. For a number it is a little bit long to read.

Then search the SGS II area only...

Also, for an accurate representation, if the phone has the "free" binary, someone with the phone can post the output of the command
adb shell free
and see exactly how much available RAM is there once booted... I think it's suffice to say there will be A LOT of available RAM on this device.
I only searched the SGS II area
It does not require this adb command. Long press home key, then task manager and RAM. Total minus used.
But in the review screen shoots it was about 300-350 mb free. It is not too much because total is about 830.
BTW I will get the phone tomorrow so I can check myself. Thanks

Hmm.. I thought I saw one saying 300 MB in use... Strange, I'll try and find out.
BTW I prefer the "free" output, as it gives more detail, and it's known and trusted, but each and to their own
Tried free output, doesn't work. Not sure why.
EDIT: Just checked my old SGS, free output works on there. Dunno why it doesn't for SGS II.
After boot, Samsung's task manager says 250ish MB used out of 833MB.
250 out of 833 after reboot
but after i install zdbox and traffic counter befor boots i had 548 out of 833 kinda wirde

What happens if i flash a rom every two or three days.
I odin back to stock every time
was just wondering. Am i going to spoil it or anything ?
Or am i good to have fun
i do this too.
I'd say it does do wear and tear, because every 2 days, your system is like brand new... all the data it used to be personalized is gone every2 days.
but i can think of a lot more reasons why it wouldn't wear and tear.
overall, it DOES, but very little.
So... what happens. Does the phone go bad after 200 odins ?
400?
1000?
anything like this happen to someone ?
Just don't repartition when you ODIN. That has say a 1/50 chance to hard brick you. Otherwise don't worry about any wear or tear imo.
Edit: future posts seem to take serious issue with the 1/50 remark. I have no special insight. The source was just a developer telling someone they think there is a 5% chance to mess up your phone by trying to repartition (context was to inform OP if and how to flash so often and you're taking it out context if you think after 50 repetitions you will brick your phone lol. Sorry, my fault to confuse others reading the post). Hence my recommendation not to repartition unless you have to. To elaborate since people are getting their panties in a wad over it, my un qualified guess is that your concern should not be wear but rather an interruption to the repartition process and whether or not that could lead to a hard brick. Thanks to everyone who has such a positive attitude about helping people...
Not sure what could possibly wear and/or tear. There are no moving parts in this thing.

NAND and NOR memory has a limited number of read/writes. Now that amount is undetermined if you dont know the make/brand/quality of the memory. The read/write count is a very high number in most cases...
Every 2 days may be a bit excessive in the long term though... lol
Edit:
Thought about it, and for informational/"not to just take my word" here is the info. Remember a "cycle" is a gate on/off meaning any write to that gate counts as a "cycle".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory
Write Endurance
The write endurance of SLC Floating Gate NOR flash is typically equal or greater than that of NAND flash, while MLC NOR & NAND Flash have similar Endurance capabilities. Example Endurance cycle ratings listed in datasheets for NAND and NOR Flash are provided.
* SLC NAND Flash is typically rated at about 100K cycles (Samsung OneNAND KFW4G16Q2M)
* MLC NAND Flash is typically rated at about 5K-10K cycles (Samsung K9G8G08U0M)
* SLC Floating Gate NOR Flash has typical Endurance rating of 100K to 1,000K cycles (Numonyx M58BW 100K; Spansion S29CD016J 1000K)
* MLC Floating Gate NOR Flash has typical Endurance rating of 100K cycles (Numonyx J3 Flash)

In theory you are right, but the lifespan of these things is on average anywhere from 10,000 to 1,000,000 cycles depending on which type you have. I would say go ahead and flash away but don't over do it.
I've always used odin to unbrick my phone. I've never read, anywhere, that repartirioning has a 1/50 chance to hard brick you.

I would think that devs flash WAY more than I do so as long as their phone is fine, who am I to worry lol. Plus ill have a new phone before I ever reach that kind of limit.

Physical wear tear? No. Its all static. Hard line limit of writes to ROM? From every previous phone I've had, yes. But that number is so high, that you would have to be flashing either for years or like 50+ times a day.
The only "wear" I would be worrying about is from dropping it or kids touching it b/c it looks like an iphone. lol

Lol Good job on the moto, "discredit what you dont understand". I was on xda years ago with my old HP ipaqs. Could it be I just went idle and created a new account years later? Besides, I posted accurate data WITH references. So go pack sand.
On another note, the point was to inform/educate. The finite number is quite large, but can vary greatly depending on quality control of the memory. 1/50 chance is utter crap (that would probably be more a software error than hardware fault), my statement was one of "dont over-do it".
so should i re-partion or no?

Having a lil discussion over on FB about tracking data usage. I have an unlimited data plan but would still like to know how much I am actually using. And before you ask, the my account app does not show data usage and it doesn't show on the website. They both track minutes and messages but not data. Also I tried the #932# trick I just found out about but it says "This service is not available for your account type". Any help would be appreciated!
Have you tried 3G Watchdog? It's in the market.
you could use the my account app from tmobile it will tell u how much data u have used this bill cycle
I see a lot of complaints about Watchdog killing the battery. My main concern is that lots of other people, but not all, can see this information online or through the myaccount app, why can't I?

Try NORTON UTILITY free from Market.

If you're a t-mobile customer just install the myaccount app. You can keep track of the data that you've used during the current billing cycle. The best thing is that it isn't constantly running in the background like any of the other data use apps. Hope that helps.

Traffic Counter, it has a breakdown of cell data, wifi, call time, sms. Even which apps are using data and how much.

- First off who is your carrier? If in fact you do have Tmobile it is odd that your app doesn't perform properly. I would suggest try contacting the dev or Tmobile themselves about your issue.
- Can you provide a screenshot of your My Account app screen? I've *attached* mine and it provides all info as it should. (As you can see I'm very close to hitting all my limits).
- If you are using another carrier have you tried searching for their app? As I know AT&T has one that looks exactly the same as Tmobile's and provides the same info for their customers.
Either way a simple search in the market for "data" or "data counter" or something similar should provide you with multiple options *attached screenshot* I have personally used NetCounter by Cyril Jaquier in the past with great results. *attached screenshot* Good luck!

WOW!!! Thats crazy Thanks for posting the pic it shows people what ur seeing. Which is friggin nutz! I'd prob take that to my local Tmobile store and show them and see whats up with that. Cuz that don't look right at all. I'd question all the info, I mean look how many mins you got left! LOL, is that your correct count? If so can i get some of your mins.
Oh, well at least there are other counters in the market, but still thats all bucked up!lol. Good luck!
*EDIT* I wonder, if you get throttled?? If so I'd use that as a base of complaint. I mean if they do throttle you then that app had better work or how can you keep track so you dont hit the cap?? I have to imagine that if you tether the crap out of it for the next week you won't get throttled. If you do I'd complain and get free stuff. Seriously.
Mine is the same way. I've never been throttled, either.
Correction: I just checked, and it does now show my usage. Sure what it's worth, I recently moved up to a Post paid account, which must have triggered the data usage to track.

when I had the SGS2 and I stopped all the running apps to close them out I also went to the ram tab and stopped whatever was running in that tab and it always showed like 19 apps running every time, So if I shut down all those running memory what was running in the memory to show 19 then i would do it again and it'll show 2-3 and shut that down how were all these running ?
How was that possible I clearly shut down what was in use and in memory it said 19
I don't have the SGS2 anymore.

I guess this device is as screwed up ! because if it weren't you would have answered the question and you know dam well what i'm talking about.....................
The UI on this device is no where near iOS not even close, IMO No wonder Jobs wanted to destroy Android besides it being stolen
correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're trying to find out why some apps are still in memory even after you attempt to close them? If so, Android does not manage memory the way you would think it should. Just because an app is in memory doesnt mean its actively using it. Android likes to keep apps in memory that it feels it will need soon, so it will load faster for the user. If the phone needs that memory for other apps, it will free up memory as needed. But until then, you'll see it appearing as if its running. Which is why if you attempted to kill apps, some may immediately reappear in the task manager. Android is keeping them opened for a reason.
i'm no android developer but I'm pretty sure thats the basic idea of android memory management. There are tons of information about this already if you want to go into more detail.
I posted at another site this same question and they gave me site to read about it.
http://mobworld.wordpress.com/2010/07/05/memory-management-in-android/
How to use memory efficiently
Android manages opened applications which are running in the background, so officially you shouldn’t care about that. This means that it closes the applications when the system needs more memory. However, most android users are not very satisfied with how it does its things because sometimes it leaves too many processes running which causes sluggishness’ in everyday performance. We can use advanced task killer/task manager and it does its job very well.
I only wanted to know if my phone was working correctly or not I wasn't sure if all those apps were suppose to be disabled or not but some A$$holes here have to worry about my abbreviations in my post so for all U that do take a flying F%$k for yourself..........................,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,""""""""""""""""""""""""
