[Q] Free memory

Hi,
Can someone tell me how much is the free memory (RAM) after reboot?
Thanks
There is no free memory, you have to pay for every byte of it.
Now learn to use the search function, I have already answered this question in this forum.
Don't take my word for it, but i have heard that around 700-800mb is free after boot.
Lol

When will people get this?
FREE MEMORY IS WASTED MEMORY
i read this thread at first look as 'Free Money'
very disappointed
Anyone who has this phone?

Search function, it serves a purpose.
Yes, that was very helpfull. I did it btw but the result was 125 pages long. For a number it is a little bit long to read.

Then search the SGS II area only...
#justsayin'
Also, for an accurate representation, if the phone has the "free" binary, someone with the phone can post the output of the command
adb shell free
and see exactly how much available RAM is there once booted... I think it's suffice to say there will be A LOT of available RAM on this device.
I only searched the SGS II area
It does not require this adb command. Long press home key, then task manager and RAM. Total minus used.
But in the review screen shoots it was about 300-350 mb free. It is not too much because total is about 830.
BTW I will get the phone tomorrow so I can check myself. Thanks

Hmm.. I thought I saw one saying 300 MB in use... Strange, I'll try and find out.
BTW I prefer the "free" output, as it gives more detail, and it's known and trusted, but each and to their own
Tried free output, doesn't work. Not sure why.
EDIT: Just checked my old SGS, free output works on there. Dunno why it doesn't for SGS II.
After boot, Samsung's task manager says 250ish MB used out of 833MB.
250 out of 833 after reboot
but after i install zdbox and traffic counter befor boots i had 548 out of 833 kinda wirde

[Q] Should I buy a memory card?

I will receive the phone this week.
I was wondering if I should purchase a MicroSD memory card TF or is not necessary?
The 16GB into the device is enough for me but the question is if I need a memory card for specific applications or certain things?
This is my first device with Android so I dont know the answer.
A its not necessary but B its useful to back stuff up to .
Plus you have more storage on your phone .

Yep it's really useful for backup.
And if you plan to use your GS2 to play vids it will be essential.

OK thanks for the answers.
My test showed me that internal sd is a class 10. So, battery usage is lower and the read/write perfs are good.
I just ordered a 32GB class 10 card. I want to put 22GB of music on it so I can sync it the PC. Won't sync when I have more much on the PC than the Phone.
Why are you syncing it? Just copy paste.

[Q] 8gb over 16gb

so my nook color went belly up on me.. my geek squad warranty got me a full replacement or exchange for an upgrade. so i took upgrade.. but i did little to no research as i had expected them to just fix it.. so asking the sales rep when isaw the tablets i asked " whats the diff from the 8gb to 16gb" his reply "storage space" .. now i come home head to xda only to find out theres a ram difference.. question is.. is there a huge difference in the ram usage? do any android apps really need more then 512 ram? or should i just fork over the extra 50 bucks and get the 16gb
my two cents worth, pay the fifty to get the sixteen . . .
If you ask me, the extra $50 is worth it. You have double the storage and double the RAM. In addition, development on the 16GB model is further along and you'd have more choices of ROMs and get better support if you're stuck. This is just my opinion though.

It shouldn't matter. They just pop their SD card in and you wait till it's finished, then you're out of there.
Or could you repartition it yourself.

dont need BNs warranty i have the geek squad "i can drive over it with a truck then take a hammer to it" warranty. just curious if registering has anything to do with flashing the internal memory
If you plan on flashing over the internal OS, there is no need to register. When I got my nook, I made a bootable sdcard with CWM, booted into it, mounted to my PC, transferred CM7 to the internal storage and flashed it. From there I eventually flashed CM9 and only saw the B&N OS when I tested albert's nandroid backup.
tl;dr no need to register if you plan on flashing a rom.

Fake fastboot and no download mode

Hi guys,
i've a hard question for you.
I've a GS3 (GT-I9300) of a friend of mine buyed in Thailand.
A little crafty friend of my friend has installed a "strange" ROM. In the device information shows a Version 4.1.9 but in Version build shows GINGERBREAD (see figure 1)
The device is very slow, it seems a Galaxy Gio. Kies doesn't recognize it. If i try to put the phone in "Download mode" (volume down+home+power) it shows what you see in the figure 2. If i try the sequence (volume up+home+power) it shows (figure 3) a pseudo fastboot mode.
What can i do to install an original rom? Odin doesn't recognize it.
Thanks in advance.
Mirko
In all honesty that looks like a fake/clone to me
I don't think because i had a GS3 and it seems perfectly equal. There's a way to understand if it's a clone?
It may not be a clone but it is running a fake version of android. Well not fake but not official. This happens alot with devices from that part of the world. I am betting that if you were to change the rom it would brick as most of those devices also come with a locked bootloader. If that is the case there is nothing you can do about it.

I think your best bet it to ask your "mate" exactly what he flashed onto your phone....but as far as I know 4.1.9 doesn't exist

There are many unofficial versions of android floating around Asia. This is most likely one of them.
Also go into task manager and see how much total Ram there is
Uhmm...after a hard reset, it shows me 191 Mb used and 247 Mb free.....i begin to think this is a clone...or the firmware can't show me the right values.

Your most likely right. Its a clone. Clones are known for having almost no ram.

Yes that is nothing out of the ordinary. Mainly if its a clone from china as there are no copyright laws there. They can slap any name they want on it and the numbers are easily gotten and added to the system. When buying electronics one has to be very careful

Well that is the point of a clone....to dupe people into parting with their money, so obviously they will try their best to copy.....tell you what, take off your back cover and post a photo of the back if you can, that usually gives the game away

Not showing up as 4gb?

Hi All,
So i thought the gear S had 4gb storage for music?? Isn't this what it says all over for specs? I just plugged in my verizon Gear S model and it shows up as 2.44gb with 2.08gb available?!? Anyone else have this problem? Is this 4gb or not?
It is but the OS takes up a lot of room. 4 gigs for music AND Tizen AND sound effects AND apps ...

yes perhaps, but my gosh, 1/2 the promised space available? The apps i've installed to the watch so far are at most 1mb in size and average 500kb. What the heck did they put in this watch that takes up 2gb of bloat? How disappointing! I was going to load this up with music tracks for my workouts etc and this is what i'm left with...
