i was willing to buy the Atrix 4g for its dualcore beast and right now we hav 3 of that kind. Can anybody suggest the best one out of the Three???
SGS 2. 'nuff said.
thread closed.
for $800 it better wipe your a$$.
-i have heard disappointing reviews on the camera, wifi, touchwiz, build quality, samsung updates(though motorola is bad with bell users).
-i wouldnt buy an LG as they have no solid track record and too many complaints to list
-atrix has its fair share of problems primarily the bootloader and camera isnt the greatest.
Anyone else kinda disappointed by this new generation of dual cores as a whole?
Nope i love my sg2 much more than my atrix!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
if i could atleast have it in my hand and it was $150 or more less I would definitely consider it.
Having both devices, what are the benefits of sgs2? Be as unbiased as possible please.
where did u buy the S2?
People harp on about the SG2 being all plasticy, but compared to the atrix it feels much more solid. the case shell on the atrix creaks whenever i hold it, whether that be age 'wear and tear' or what not.
i find the camera to be much better than the atrix
the screen is much better on the SG2 but thats personal choice
i do miss quirky features such as the fingerprint reader and webtop but thats about it. Everything else the SG2 does the same if not better. Even in stock form, no mods comparing the two it becomes much greater. as gingerblur fixed alot of problems (motoblur!)
saying that, the Atrix is still the 2nd best device i had!
my 2 cents

Sorry. but f**k the Galaxy S II! The Galaxy S I9000 was soooooooo much better. From what ive heard, the Optimus 2X has really good build quality. But yeah they have a terrible track record, usually they make products with crappy quality. The Atrix is sweet but the locked bootloader and the fact that we have to wait for Motorola for updates; that drags it down.
1) Moto Atrix
2) LG Optimus 2X
3) Galaxy S II

So guys....I just want a nice cellphone. I don't care for root and stuff. So, I guess the atrix will be fine for me right?
Do the G2x and S2 have been unlocked yet?
ty vm and sry about my english, Im trying to improve
If you want the best everyday phone I would buy the atrix battery last a day or more!

LOL @ the guy who said the phone creaks in his hand. that is such utter LIES.
In any case, Samsung has a pretty horrible track record with the i9000 quality. Just look up i9000m internal SD on google and have fun sorting through that mess.. A phone that just auto nukes its internal SD whenever it wants.
As for the Atrix it has IMO an amazing screen (which you can use at full brightness) at little penatly on the giant battery.
If you wanna save battery and use juice defender the max I have gotten out of it before dying is 56 hours.... on a single charge.
So yeah.
Thanks for all the suggestion guys.. The Quadrant benchmarks of samsung galaxy sII ended up being something like around 3500 which is the heighest till date...atrix is around 2700 i guess...any comments on this fact??
Things aren't perfect with the SG2 there's the:
1. Heat dissipation issues were people are already returning their phones just for that alone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068663
2. WiFi Issues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067473
3. (Much More Than Normal) "Dead Pixel" Screens
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065935
4. Lack of Notification LED - (most knew about this already)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058596
I'm not going to say which phone is better since they All 3 phones have their issues, but it's also interesting to watch people dropping $750-$1000 already thinking the SG2 will be the perfect device. (yes there's no perfect device blah blah blah...)
Anywhoo... For the record, I'm not totally trilled with the Atrix at this moment either. I've also thought about switching to the SG2 already myself, but IMO it's too high of a price tag to give it a chance right now.
The bottom line, there really isn't really a clear cut winner...
hmm i have an atrix 4g, simunlocked from att, i had issues with wifi in my country, now that i managed to fix it and am running gingerblur, im very happy with the phone, however the case really is squeaking (back when i was in the US i had another atrix4g which i went to replace cuz the fingerprint scanner locked up occasionally, that one had perfect build quality, this one just squeaks at the top, and she cover shell is somehow too big for it...) and the locked bootloader is really annoying me, the screen is very good in my opinion. If i would be buying one of the phones now i would go with the LG i think (my main reasons: tegra2, unlocked bootloader, proper support), as to the sgs2 its too big in my opinion (seriously hwo needs a 4.3" phone, even the 4" are too big kind of - id prefer a 3.8"/3.7" like the original htc desire, but noone makes high end phones with that screen size..). Cant say much more about the sgs2, as that it doesnt have tegra2 which i prefer over other dualcore ARM based chips right now. Atrix has way better hardware specs than the LG tho: more ram, more flash, better battery, webtop, fingerprint scanner - love that one lol, the only worser spec is the camera on the atrix. so go figure For stock use the Atrix would be the best ithink

e-penis is big enough.
why not htc hd2 .......its the better device
just kiding xD...but I have one now , just sold my atrix, I will try lg and SGS2
IF you want test...why you don't bought 2 and return to the store the phone you don't like it
I see many opnions.....and many FANS off samsung, lg and motorola
soo, if you want the opinion...ask in xda general not in motorola session....
thats probably a very good idea. I love my atrix so im going to lean towards this phone.
General might be less bias.

im trying to see if I should wait for the Galaxy S2, GX2, or htc Sensation too.
Sensation and Galaxy S2 both have more Ram the the LG, but the LG is out now...
All 3 use are different duel core processor.
I definitely dont think you should go for the mytouch 4 with the LG out now and others on the way.
trying to decide which of the 3 duel core phones to go for myself.
if you are looking for a phone now, its the LG hands down. If you are willing to wait, then you are in the same boat as me. not sure between the LG, HTC, or Sammy
Ya, the htc is supposed to be out in June or July. But my son's mytouch slide is having issues. So I'm considering upgrading and giving him my phone.

Switch from the vibrant I'm on the g2x nd lovin it by far the fastest phone I have ever owned. I've owned a lot I'm a phone whore... I'm still going to get the galaxy s 2 when it comes out phones are like pokemon gotta catch em all

If you can wait ............wait for the S2 the hardware is something to wait for. Over the next 10-15 months all the phones will go through a huge change. All the new phones hardware will have the capacity to run windows 7 (not that they will) but think about it ....the phone I have now has the same power as my windows 2000 computer 7 years ago............ amazing time.........
The vibrant has too much going for it to pay for an upgrade now. Especially in my mind the uncertainty of the AT&T takeover, or as i call it, when we all get screwed.
The g2x is amazing. I want one. But I also know my phone is dang good and only better phones are going to roll out... More GHz and more dual cores.
The next phone with a perfect 4"screen, 1.3+ GHz dual core on a good/cheap network may change my opinion... In the future.
S2 for sure. There is nothing to discuss, and nothing to think about. That is just the way to do it. Period.
S2 has a answered my prayers. I have been waiting for a freakin 4.3 SAMOLED phone to come out. Sammy only had the 4" galaxy S - Vibrant last year with talks of "dual core."
I'm glad that they didn't rush it either- because that would have been a huge liability waiting to happen.
Instead, they listened to our gripes.
1. 32gb memory- on bigger model
2. FFC - badass
3. FLASH!!!!
4. 8mp camera
5. 4.3" Capacitive Touch
6. Super Amoled!!!!!!!!
7. Gorilla glass?
8. External SD support up to 32gb
9. 4g !!!!!
10. GingerBread official.
11. Mod edit: to much info mate...keep it to yourself.
Seriously, it blows anything out of the water that is out there and will be out there in the near future.
Plus, Tmobile is getting is.
I'm going to buy 10 of these just in case zombies attack, then I'll just sit back and relax.
Anyway, /shameless Plug.
you get the picture.
GL with your decision.
A better way to go about this is, do you plan on rooting your new phone and installing custom ROMs? If you you do intend to do that, then i think Samsung has proven they could careless about you or the dev community so long as you buy there product.
We all know HTC shares there source code and there is a herd of diehard HTC fans who will mod the crap out of the Sensation.
I just picked up the G2x yesterday after i seen that LG has already released source code for not only the OS but kernel source code as well, and with cyanogen himself doing the CM7 port to the G2x, it will and should be community supported greatly as well
A thing that sold me on the G2x is that it supports AT&T 3G bands, so if its still my main phone if the merger goes down, it'll be a fully compatible device and i wont need to buy a new one to take advantage of AT&Ts extended coverage
So in the end it really just boils down to:
How long can you wait?
Do you intend to mod your phone?
Galaxy S2 hands down.
It will have a lot of ROMS for it since it has an unlocked Bootloader just like the Vibrant. The HTC Sensation does NOT. It also has lots of memory internal, and a 4.3 Super Amoled PLUS. Everything else you can compare to the HTC Sensation of G2X as all 3 have relatively similar "rest of the phone".
I'm on a g2x lets hope that the galaxy 2 does not have the normal sammy problems like on the vibrant I have a bitter taste for them now

as you can see from the second post in this thread, I too am trying to decide between gx2, gs2, sensation...
i see tons of people saying the samsung gs2 will be the best thing ever. So yes, Sammy does have awesome hardware (look at our vibrants). But, will it be cheap plastic? and who cares how great the hardware is if the Software sucks balls? (like our vibrants). Yes, our developers are awesome, but they are having to run circles around Sammy's terrible software writing...
I am not saying this is the case with the gs2, as im thinking about it too, just wondering these things...?
Thank you guys so much for your responses. It was exactly what I was looking for, different opinions. I needed to get a phone because two of the phones on my plan were injured. My son chose the "sidekick" not a bad phone, but I tried to talk him out of it. But whatever, it was cheaper.(good for me). I chose the G2x. And I gotta say, WOW! And for those wondering, the screen is just as good. Colors even seem a bit deeper. Quadrants (whatever) but 2200 out the box. The 4g is way better than my 3g. You tube on HD without a stutter. Couldnt pull that off before.
1080 vid recording (I was told) not tested yet.
Fast fast fast processor.
FFC (untested yet)
8mp camera with flash.
Feels much more solid and better made than Vibrant.
Stock against stock. Hands down its better. Guess I will have to wait on dev community for customization results. Maybe I will try to figure out how and root it tonight to remove some bloat.
I will miss my Vibrant (but my sis in law will be happy).
Oh! And I heard today the merge with ATT may not happen. Yay!

Hey guys im looking to buy a motorolla Atrix or a LG optimus 2x...
iv read up alot on the 2 and it seems tho the hardware of the atrix is far superior, the LG still is better when it comes to functionality...
Also read about with the Atrix you CANNOT connect the phone via HDMI to the tv and play games or whatever... can only view videos...
is this true...?? can someone confirm or give some advice...?? how are the custom roms for this...??

well ill try my best to explain what i think/know. first off imo the atrix is better. atrix 1gb ram vs optimus 512mb. atrix also has a higher resolution screen. webtop is a big plus. and its even better for people like me who dont have the laptop dock. i use the hdmi hack and i can use the phone as a trackpad/keyboard for webtop on a tv battery life is also good imo. i get about 2 days out of my atrix. thats like 300 texts per day. some data usage. and occasionally a call. with webtop you can sort of "mirror" your phone. you can open your phone screen in a window and maximize it. other then that im not 100% sure on what mirroring options are there. oh and the mobile HD media center is really cool. music, pics, hd video. its great.
i guess in your situation. out of the box, atrix may not be the best choice. but now that the bootloaders unlocked and if your willing to go through with unlocking it. this phone is only going to get better.
(i love my atrix)

The Atrix is held back by motoblur, but once we get some decent ROMs it'll start flying. Since it has more ram that the optimus 2X, its more future proof.
There are mods that enable the HDMI mirroring functionality on the Froyo firmwares, so you can do it if you're fine with rooting (which shouldnt be an issue considering the site this is on)

thanks man... and no i have no probs with rooting... i think thats a must on all phones... but like im not too aware of this bootloader stuff... used ODIN quite a bit for putting roms on my SGS but dont know how diff it will be with moto... tho im not too fond of moto in general... just seems as you said the specs seem to be alot better than the LG... i felt the 512 ram for my sgs was less so the 512 on a dual core seems waaayyyyy tooo lessss :S
In my understanding the whole bootloader stuff is what limits the Atrix from running to its potential. Motoblur UI lags the Atrix and yes u can still use launcher pro etc..I believe pretty much everyone here uses a similar kind. If u want an out of the box phone then perhaps look elsewhere. If you are patient enuff and don't mind searching thru the entire theme/apps/dev section for Atrix then what they have to offer will not disappoint u.
Goodluck!

anyway yea i guess ill go with the Atrix... i heard the bootloader was just unlocked now... so should be a good thing i imagine...?? I think the Atrix specs are off the charts... it all boils down to the firmwares and if it can impress in terms of actual performance...
by the way i read the screen is not that great... esp in sunlight... that will pose a big problem i think :S

The amoleds are not.

No no dude what are you talking about... im the person that started the thread and as you can see I ended up with the Atrix ... im using a international one so I assure you they are available... you just unfortunately happen to see more AT&T written everywhere... so don't worry...
No as for which phone to buy... personally ill say im quite happy with the phone... EXCEPT... the screen which I was worried about from the start... it may have more pixels than the norm bust the colors are too damn dull for my liking... again reason for me not liking it is because I came from a Super Amoled display of the Samsung Galaxy S... otherwise im sure I wouldn't be complaining... in that respect the LG screen is better and more crisp and better colors compared to this but the ATRIX screen is brighter due to the pentile display having more white pixels which increase the pixel ratio...
So that's it for the screens...
Where I feel the optimus takes a kick in the jewels is the Ram... I don't get why they would only put 512 ram in a dualcore phone when 512 ram was barely enough for a singlecore on gingerbread... hence the ATRIX wins by far on terms of ram...
Now for support... unfortunately iv seen alot more support until now for the optimus than the ATRIX... you barely see any atrix specific apps or things just havnt seemed to accept the atrix to include it in the support list... even when you search apps you try to look for a similar spec phone and hope that same file will work for you... rather annoying...
A HUGE problem I felt with the Atrix is the front facing camera... it is by far the WORST camera iv used for video calls... so if skype and gtalk video are imp for you I say beware... if you don't have the sun or spotlights around the camera barely sees you during the night... even with 2 60 watt bulbs around... if there isn't literally light on "YOUR FACE... GODDAMMIT"... Then its no good... at all...
As for roms and all that other good stuff... thankfully the bootloader HAS been unlocked and we have quite a few roms now... and Theyr quite good... to each their own ofcourse...
So all in all... its a tough call... if your not coming from a super amoled screen no need to worry about the screen and go for thethe atrix... if you are then you will probably feel very irritated... also if video calls are imp... well I don't know the LG quality so can't comment... but the atrix is sh*t...
And tho the optimus has loads of support... let's just hope more slowly cones in for the atrix since its a newer phone...

Well in that case, I had lent my Atrix to a friend for a week because he wanted to take it for a test run ... he was also using a nexus one and he Loved the Atrix ... the screen didn't bother him at all... he actually liked it more due to the resolution difference... hence... id advise the Atrix probably... and you may want to hurry and change your phone... once the nexus prime hits your nexus one value will plummet more...

I can't decide whether to get the Atrix 2 or the Galaxy SII. I've played with both and they are both nice, but a few pros/cons for them I've noticed.
Both have similar stats, but although the Atrix 2 still has the qHD screen, the GS2's screen is really incredible.
Thank goodness on the Atrix 2 you do not have to set up a MotoBlur account when you set up the phone. But the regular Blur interface is fine for me. I don't have issues liking it like so many others. I never figured out all the hate with it.
They did improve the shutter speed on the Atrix 2, it snaps the picture faster than the Atrix 1 or the GS2, although the iPhone 4 has the fastest, which is really good when trying to take pictures of your kid when she is always moving. hehe The GS2's shutter is average.
The one thing that really hooked me on my Atrix 1 is how loud the external speaker is. That is a must for me. I used to have the HTC Inspire and that had the worst speaker I've ever noticed. The GS2's speaker is louder than say the Infuse, but not as loud as the Atrix. The Atrix 2 continues on with a nice loud speaker.
The GS2 does feel snappier and a bit faster than the A2.
My big issue I guess is Samsung's lack of quality and how slow they are to issue updates. I used to have the Captivate and that took forever to get FroYo on it. Plus Samsung phones are notorious for lousy GPS units.
So I'm confused which one to get, although I am leaning towards the A2. The GS2 just seems so nice when you pick it up with the great screen and the snappier OS. The Atrix on the other hand has the qHD screen and loud speaker quality.
Oh and if anyone is curious, the A2 does not come with an HDMI mini cable like the A1 did.
Oh, and I am not into rooting/flashing ROMS, so that is not a consideration for me.
Opinions would be welcome.
Good rant.
Get one, if you don't like it, you have 30 days to return it.

Yeah nobody cares. Decide on your own. Why does everyone feel like someone needs to decide for them?
Why would anyone consider buying a phone right now, when the next Nexus phone is set to be announced on the 19th.

I think you need some manners. You won't get far in life being so rude to people. But I guess you weren't brought up right.
I was just asking for opinions. If you don't care then don't post.
I personally would go for the A2. even though the sgs II is a little snappier. i would have to go for the fact that the A2 continues with great loud speaker. i too had the inspire for a short time and it was taken back and replaced by my atrix. I havent had the chance to play with the A2 or the sgs II however if A2 doesnt have a mini hdmi... which i hope you mean isn't included in the box.... not that it doesnt have the output. which would make you wonder why they changed that as that is really one of the better functions of the A1.... i would look at what the quality of both rear and forward camera is on both.. sgs II has an 8 rear and a 2 in front. not sure what the A2 has... also the qhd display.... if the sgs II continues with the super amoled screen i would do this as the screen display is better than anything else.... its your call. but if the sgs II is anything like first gen sgs phones in construction and built cheap... i would pass.
good luck on your quest

wait for Galaxy Nexus
The Atrix 2 doesnt look bad

I say wait until nexus is announced. That would be more of an upgrade then the a2 or the s2

honestly, if u don't plan on rooting/modding, i'd say get the iphone 4s, or wait for the official specs of the Nexus
I'm in the same boat friend. I'm on my 3rd SGS2 on AT&T. Now When I take it back this morning I will have the Atrix 2 in store. Do I pick that up instead or go with the SGS2 again.... Screen defects on the SGS2 are killing me.
I bet is att guys don't even get the prime.

yeah that's why I have to be picky with either another SGS2 or go with the Atrix 2. both seem to have the exact same specs though. Am I reading them right?
Good info!

We have some of the same taste in phones apparently. I had the Captivate and the Atrix also. I currently have a SGSII which I got on launch day using my upgrade.
I am interested in the Atrix 2 and even more so that you do not need to sign in on motoblur to use! I have enough in Best Buy gift cards to buy the Atrix off contract (450) so I can try it out.
I have not noticed that the SGSII is faster than my OG Atrix in practical tasks so I expect the Atrix 2 to be plenty fast enough. Some issues with the SGSII are the camera while being good quality is sooooo slow to take a picture! The GPS is also not as good as my OG Atrix and I use the Navigation a lot. Also Battery life has not been very impressive for my usage patterns. I am in sales so on the go all the time and cannot be plugging in my phone all the time. With the SGSII I am thinking about recharging by about 4 pm.
I think the only way to know which is for you is to do a trial for 30 days to see. I will try to get the Atrix 2 today and check it out. If I really like it I will return my SGSII and keep my upgrade for something in the future.
It will probably not be this mythical Nexus Prime- I had a Nexus S and a 5 mp camera that cannot zoom? No thanks... Plus 4.65 inch screen...not for me.
Just my two cents.
Sgs2.

I currently have the AT&T Captivate and I have the chance to get a new AT&T phone. When I bought the Captivate it was my first Android phone and pretty amazing compared to my AT&T Fuze and before that my AT&T wizard. I just want to see if SGS2 will be what the Captivate wasn't. GPS sucked, no front facing camera, lack of OS updates but everything else seemed comfortable and fast to me. I just found a perfect battery life ROM for my captivate and if I buy this phone today I just want to make sure it will impress me more than the Captivate. I also want your opinions on your switch from the predecessor and why you stuck with another Samsung phone? (which I don't mind cause of the amazing community here)

I switched from the Infuse.
1) GPS - the Infuse was a significant improvement over the Cappy, and so far, the GS2 seems to be a massive improvement over the Infuse
2) FFC - just like the Infuse, we have it. That's about all I can say
3) Lack of OS updates - get used to this on AT&T - but just like the Cappy (and unlike the Infuse), the deltas from the international variant are small enough that this doesn't really matter.
Reasons I stuck with Samsung, including paying full outright purchase price:
1) Samsung's clear developer support policies - device donations to Cyanogenmod, they even donated an Infuse to supercurio for Voodoo work, source code dropping BEFORE device release
2) Samsung ease of development - Samsungs are really damn hard to brick and easy to flash
3) sAMOLED+
I too had a Captivate. Coming from a Tilt/E71/N97 Mini, it was amazing. It had gotten sluggish, but I wasn't planning on re-setting it back to stock or flashing another rom on it until my year was up (I was rooted). When I first got it I really thought it would do me for a couple of years. The more I read about the SGS2 though, the better it sounded. So I caved.
I bought one the day they were released and haven't regretted it at all. It makes the Captivate seem like it's slogging through molasses in January. Everything is instantaneous, the GPS gets a lock inside my house within a matter of seconds, the battery life is greatly improved, etc. Oh, as a plus, it also seems to pick up signal where no other phone has before - actually, that's a HUGE plus for me.
If you know of anyone with an SGS2, it might pay for you to at least mess with it a bit so you can see for yourself "in the real world".
I'm now ready to use the Captivate to flash roms and experiment (yay), then when my 30 days is up, I'll root the SGS2 and see from there.
I recommend the SGS2, but as usual, ymmv.
as Entropy said (which is pretty much hitting the "nail on the head"), samsung devices are hard to brick, easy to modify and they've supported independent developers, which is cool in my book.
I got my SGS2 from Radio Shack for 179.99 upgrade contract. Coming from Captivate running Pinnacle with Samurai kernel, I would say it is barely worth the 180$ (80 of those being for the front facing camera and a flash , another 20 for the GPS).
What about the amazing 8mp camera compared to the cappy the sgs2 is an amazingly huge improvement. And of course the crazy out of the box speed its like besides removing bloatware you don't need any other ROM to make it fast...

"Barely"!?
I came from the captivate (made a short stop at the Thrill on my way) and could literally not be more impressed with this phone.
Its amazing, its got the dev support, its thin, its light, its bigger screen, bettery battery life, FFC, flash, tons of RAM, plenty horsepower. I cannot start enough Apps to bog this phone down, I have never seen it lag or hesitate.
With the Galaxy Nexus exclusivity confirmed (phandroid) on Verizon, if you want a high end android phone on AT&T, you only have one choice. If you want mid-range phone with decent specs, and no dev support give Thrill or Atrix 2 a try for half the price. I have no doubt that the GS II is worth the upgrade, especially if you can sell your captivate to pay for it.

That is one thing that kills me though, the price. It might be worth it to me though. I actually miss using GPS with me and my brother battling on Foursquare, and now that my family uses their front facing camera on their iphone 4's to talk I can actually put it to a lot of use. ( I feel kinda left out with the cappy haha.)

Well, I got the Captivate as a free upgrade, coming from HTC Aria (which was also free), so my upgrades are gradual in terms of phone quality. When I said barely, that's what I meant - paying actual money for SGS2

I use a DSLR for photography, and megapixels are not a selling point for me.
Speed out of the box is great, that's true, but again, I was coming from a speedy smooth running custom kernel/rom on the Captivate...
I also came from Cappy and tried almost every iteration of roms then stuck with CM7. I had two cappys (3 if you include my wife's) a d I sold MY second cappy for $160, went down to a Walmart store and got the SGS2 for $148.88 and something like $164 after tax. So basically it was free for me and I still have my cappy as a backup even though I haven't needed it. This seems a lot more stable and harder to even softbrick than the cappy. So YES it is worth every penny.
I Love my cappy but it really doesn't compare to the SGS2. Besides all the difference you already mentioned this thing even at stock performs VERY WELL. This phone is guaranteed the next generation of OS (ICE CREAM SANDWICH). It has the same dev support as the captivate. It is a very fast and I THINK still the fastest phone in the market. You CANNOT go wrong with it. I could reiterate the OTHER pluses but they have been covered above. Just pull the trigger and you wont look back.

Ha! I just updated from a Captivate because I *ran over* it the other night. Luckily, it wasn't in my pocket at the time. The Gorilla Glass is impressive. The display panel behind the glass faceplate is shattered, 100s of cracks. The faceplate itself is completely undamaged. The phone still worked, though no display. Luckily I'd left it in USB Debug so I could get all my crap off it still.
The S2 is a noticeable improvement over the Cappy. Speedier, with much less lag, a brilliant display (though I think my Cappy display had faded and gotten some burn in so the comparison my not be all that fair).
As with so many other owners, I was exasperated by the S1's GPS. I'd gotten it to work OK after lots of fiddling (changing to a larger battery and the non-conductive plastic back plate that came with it seemed to make a significant difference) but it was still marginal at best.
The Bluetooth at last can finally initiate a hands-free voice-activated call, though it's annoying it can't do that with the screen off (wondering if I can fix that with Tasker), and I'm thinking of swapping in the stock voice APK since the Samsung Vlingo thing is a bit slow... Voice response via BT has always been an Android disappointment, it's something that for all their faults, Blackberry has honed to a fine art.
im thinking about buying this phone, i dont want to spend alot of money on smartphone and the atrix is pretty cheap for what he gives.
the motorola atrix worth buying?
he have any common problems?
thanks
Mine was pretty cheap, I got it for my birthday in october. I love it. The only common problem would be random reboots/sleep of deaths. There have been some "fixes" that work for people if you look around, but there are a fair amount of users who have had random reboot issues or sleep of death issues, including me. But I've managed to fix mine so I love love love the Atrix.
atrix 4g
For a cheap phone it is really good. My only complaint is the 5mp camera. To get its full potential you have to unlock the bootloader, root and install a custom rom. All the info can be found in the development section of this forum. Turls team cm7 is rock steady. I have just updated to jokersax11's cm9 and now the phone is awesome, the only thing missing is the camera does not work in this rom.
..
Were having alpha ver. of IceCream Sandwich (CM9) ... there are better phones around atm but if you think Atrix fits you then I would say its not a bad choice.
You can still buy it because it is very nice.
I bought my atrix 2 weeks ago in germany and i can't complain. Ok actually the atrix wasn't my first choice but the price of the nexus s become very high in germany so i decided to get the atrix.
And it is still a very fast phone with a nice battery and the most important fact for me is that it only has a 4" display because I have small hands and a bigger display would be to big for me.
I am happy and i saved more than 100€ compared to other high end phones like the galaxy s II or galaxy nexus.
I vote to Buy.
If you plan on modding I'm sure your are.. Your here after all. I would buy one for 250 or less. I really like mine. There are so many roms to try now. It seems even though some phones are better this phone is really well supported by a big community. Breathing more life into a phone and taking it beyound its time. Im using the SuperOSr Rom and I really enjoy it tried maybe 6 or so others.

Forgot to say the atrix has been a really reliable phone considering the amount if soft bricked it doing software flashes unsafely. I didn't know any better at the time. Not buggy like all my blackberries Ive had.
I think it is worth buying this phone, it's a lot cheaper then say a galaxy s2 and the galaxy is just a tad more powerfull, also there are some great custom roms and even a few (I think 3) ICS roms on the way!
Dont buy the atrix, buy a sensation a sgs2 or a o2x.

Lol o2x is almost the same but less ram no webtop no finger print scanner and costs more.

I am thinking about buying an Atrix and would like some input too.
Requirements are:
1. 4" Screen
2. Good battery life
3. ATT 3G Bands
4. Less that $400 on unlocked market
The phones I considered were the SE Arc, LG Optimus 2X, and Atrix 4G. Yes, I would love to own a Galaxy or Nexus phone but it is outside my price range. The Optimus 2X fell out because I cannot get it in ATT USA bands. So its the Arc vs the Atrix. Or did I miss another option?
yes - no problems
yes, it's worth it. I've had no problems with mine, the build quality is excellent on my device.
The 5mg camera is the only marginally disappointing thing but that alone would not tempt me to swap it for a SGSII.
good luck

How about the Atrix vs Nexus S?
Nexus S pluses: AMOLED, Better Camera, Better Battery life, NFC, Offical upgrade to ICS
Atrix pluses: Expandable Memory, HDMI, Faster CPU, FP Reader, 3.5G
Tough call.
You'll get what you pay for, imo. Best way to compare real market value is check ebay (BNIB on auction).
I'm sure ill be on gingerbread when similar phones will be on some next version of ics, not to mention that I got gingerbread after 6 months of purchase. I will never buy motorola android phone again, but that is just my personal experience.

I can't blame you either. I have always been a Motorola fan from the ROKR (not RAZR) line (anyone remember the Apple collaboration with Moto?) and I owned an E2. But I think it is poor on Motorola's part that the Defy is stuck on Froyo, while the pratically identical Defy+ got Gingerbread on launch. Motorola seems to be keeping certain brands going (Milestone/Droid, Defy, Atrix) so the should keep them updated as far as they can physically go.
Battery and ICS might sway me into getting the Nexus S but I do love the more powerful Atrix.
It's a great phone but the camera really kills it, other than that it's awesome.
I personally love my Atrix. The camera is a slight bit disappointing but it definitely makes it up with versatility and functionality. Just my opinion

i choosed phone for about 1 year. because haven't more money, but i want a "power" phone, which can work for about 4 years without problem with hardware. i bought Atrix 4g. this is my first android phone, but it really nice for this price.
In the end of 2011 year i choose between atrix 4g, Defy+ and nexus prime. but nexus prime have bigger display, it is thinner than atrix, but have big price.
Defy+ is wonderfull, water resist, dust resist and any more... but haven't dual core, and only 512 ram.
resume (for me):
if i have more money i bought nexus prime, but i think that ideal phone can not cost more than $ 400 must have the hardware with a view of the future (1 year minimum). Should work just fine navigating large maps (map RUSSIA really great, and requires a lot of memory the laying of complex routes). Should be easily unlockable and be able to flash the android ICS (СM9 in my case). gave me a chance to practice in programming for Android.
Atrix gives me all these opportunities. Overclocking the CPU to 1.5GHz making foundation for the future, the performance he ahead of SGS2 and is not as great. Support for memory cards - I have no problems with the backup, you can always place another increase.
so that at the moment, I suggest taking Atrix 4g. But the choice is always yours.

Wow! How can you fix your SoD problem in Atrix?
I tested a lot of radios, kernels and roms without sucess. Can you tell me?
Thanks
Other than having a slight less capable camera, I love the Atrix!
Something to also note (that I love) is that it has a qHD resolution 4" display, which means it's pixel density is much higher than most of the other Android phones.

Do a little xda or google search to find a lot of SoD desperated users.
It's impossible to know what app (or kernel or rom etc) is the root cause, because many ones has many different configuration, use many differents apps etc.
My problem is more related to Data Connection, even 3G or Wifi. Every time I turn off a data connection my device get's SoD.
At now I'm testing LoadMonitor app as a SoD avoid app, and it make me happy. Let's do another test before advice them to other ones.
Thanks
