I've got the Dopod U1000 version of the Athena with the original WM5 Rom. Unfortunately, a few months after I got it, both my laptop and my desktop (both running XP) suddenly stopped recognizing my Athena when I connected via USB. I always get an error message of USB Device Not Recognized. Since then, I've had to connect via bluetooth to ActiveSync. (The Athena does charge when connected via USB, just isn't recognized by the computer or ActiveSync, obviously.)
Now, I'd really love to upgrade to one of the WM6.1 cooked roms, but it seems I need to use Olipro's Athena wrapper first, right? And it seems that I need to be synced with the PC via USB to run the Athena wrapper, right?
Am I stuck with WM5 or is there a way to make this work? If not upgrading the rom, can I upgrade the radio, or does that also require the wrapper process?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
You must synchronize correctly in order to upgrade!
Now you should look for the cause why you can't synchronize? try to go to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and see if the choice is checked uncheck it and do a soft rest and try synchronizing
I had that problem with my previous work computer. After several months the usb port I always connected to suddenly didn't recognize the Athena. Switched to another port, after a while it wouldn't recognize it. Etc, Etc. I was on my last port when they upgraded my computer.
Its been several months now and no problems. Have you tried another computer?
Bright Neon,
thanks for the reply. Have tried many times what you suggested with no success, as well several hard resets.
techntrek,
by different usb ports, do you mean the different physical ports to plug in on the computer? If so, I've tried both on my laptop and all six on my desktop. Don't have access to another computer at the moment.
So, there's no way to use the Athena Wrapper without being synched? From my reading, it seems possible to flash a new rom from the minisd. I was hoping something like that was possible for Athena Wrapper, as well. Definitely not, huh?
Yes, I meant the physical usb ports. I have no idea why it was such a problem for me on that older computer.
Sorry, don't have an answer for your question about flashing from the mini-SD.

I've extracted the needed file from the AthenaWrapper. See attached.
1st prepare a mini-SD card FAT32 formatted. Unzip and Copy the extracted file into it root.
Or with existing mini-SD, move all existing files into somewhere and copy this attached file
into the root of the miniSD. You must leave the root solely for this special file.
Place the mini-SD into the Athena and execute BootLoader.
It should instantly detect and automatically run the AthenaWrapper from there.
Ensure your Athena with sufficiant battery power or run direct from adaptor.
I've not use this method on wrapper but works fine installing rom.
I am not responsible if anything goes wrong from here.
So if you are comfortable to try than proceed. Otherwise wait for a better solution.
Pdajoy,
Thank you very, very much for the file and instructions!
Now, I've just got to see if I've got the courage to try it. If anyone else wants to weigh in on whether this is likely to work or end in disaster, I'm all ears.
Evermore, you are welcome. Hope you solve the USB issue.

I think it would be very brave of you to upgrade the SPL this way.
I can't remember anyone attempting to do it this way .
So many people were having problems that cmonex made a wrapper to try and prevent problems.
there are a few processes involved in this so I suggest you pm and ask her directly after reading both the AP4 upgrade posts.
it will not work from SD if you dont have a hardspl currently
Thanks for the reply. I just got my athena back from the shop in an attempt to fix the connection problem, but they were unable to fix it and said I'd need a new motherboard.
So, with no way to connect via usb, I'm stuck with WM5 on this device then, right?
Have you tried other computers. I would try several more makes/models.

there can be a way, actually. run SSPL (a spec version that doesn't have SD removed. current one has it removed, iirc), then use that to read in a ATHEIMG.NBH.
but I do not remember if for Athena SD works in SSPL loaded with jumpspl or only with SSPL loaded from diag (and the latter would require a hardspl already on the device)... drop me a PM and we can test this out.
This night sound obvious, but have you tried to use another USB cable?
Also, the USB port of the Athena is bit loss. You might want to try to use a small piece of paper inserted together with the USB male plug to make the contacts tighter.
Hey,
Thanks for the replies. I have tried several cables and computers. I even tried the suggestion of inserting paper to make the contacts tighter, but the fit is actually quite tight, even without the paper. I'm inclined to accept what the repair shop said - that there is a problem on the motherboard where it connects to the mini-usb. So, short of replacing the motherboard, there doesn't seem to be a mechanical fix to my situation. I thank you all again for your suggestions.
Cmonex, I'll pm you to take you up on your offer to see if there's a chance of upgrading without usb connection.
A couple years ago the connector on my XDA was broken. The service centre wanted something like US$300 to replace the mother board. I decided that it was not worth it and tried to repair myself. I opened the case and found that the "legs" of the connector were broken - I ended up soldering a mini USB port to the mother board and used it for another year before it was stolen!
My point is it is worthwhile to check whether it is just caused by a broken "leg". If so it is quite easy to repair!
kwongwt,
thanks very much. The guy at the repair shop had the intention of replacing the mini usb, but said there was a problem on the motherboard itself where the mini usb would connect. Don't know, maybe he was wrong and you are right.
I just found the service manual online and, yikes!!!, there is no way I can do this myself (even if I had the right tools). Just way too many ways for me to make a mistake in there. I'm impressed that you were able to do so.
So, until I get some more money together, I can't afford to get a second opinion from another repair place, unfortunately. I hope you're right and it can be repaired, but I won't be able to find out for a while.
Thanks again.
update... apparently the hardSPL flash worked from SD. maybe I'll release that SSPL later. but it seems he now needs to reflash the OS for some reason.
Yes, everybody. Cmonex saved me!
I have just successfully flashed michyprima's latest rom (spl 1.2). Going from original WM5 to this rom ought to be quite a leap, I suspect. And all possible because cmonex help me hardspl flash from sd. Who needs a stinking usb connection, anyway?
device not recognized - HTC Fuze
I was having the hardest time with my FUZE being recognized by my machines. I would have to reboot the phone and reboot the machine to get it to work. Even then it would only work once.
The fix was to get the original USB cable and use it.
Hey guys just wanted to say thanks for all the help you provide on a daily basis, for all the people trying to unlock the potential in their phones. However with that being said I might have tried too hard and messed up my phones. I have a Samsung Vibrant SGH-T595 with 2.1 (update 1) updated officially by Samsung.
I rooted the phone, used clock work recovery mod and then downloaded and installed cyanogenmod 7.1 RC. However in the end I did not like so I tried to go back using my backed up copy created by clockwork mod. Doing this has now what you would call "soft bricked" my phone.
The phone is currently stuck on the Samsung boot screen when trying to power on the device. I am unable to put it into download mode via the three button setup, but I bought a USB jig and it sets it into download mode.
Everything seems great at this point but the Odin program is unable to recognize my phone. I have downloaded the official Samsung Kies, and 64 bit drivers as well for my windows 7 system but it is unable to detect my phone. I believe it maybe a defective USB issue with this phone but not sure since it can be charged through USB but I can't remember the last time I was able to connect it to the PC and transfer files via the USB cable.
My question is what else can I do other then sell it for scrap?
Try another USB cable and different ports. It will recognize it eventually.
As you have a windows 7 x64 bit version i guess Odin may need to be opened by giving Administrator permissions.
Try right clicking odin and click Run as administrator. I guess this should work.
Ran into this issue last night with my wife's Nook Color and moving some file and driver issues. Guess what? It was a bad cord. Actually used my Vibrant cord and it was instantly recognized. Yes sometimes it IS actually THAT simple.
I also suggest you go to the Dev section and download the AIO Toolbox (links are live again and don't forget the .Net files too). Uninstall the drivers you have installed and run to toolbox. It has all the correct drivers, pit/tar files and Odin. It is an invaluable tool.
Sidenote: Kies is notorious for hardbricking devices. You should stay away from it altogether.

Exactly. And that is how i tried updating my vibrant to froyo and ended up hard bricking it..
Yeah like someone in here said, download aio vibrant toolkit.. its a surefire way to know your drivers are good and right.. once youve ruled them out, try a diff usb port and cable (mentioned above as well). If nothing works, then you may begin to entertain the idea that your phone is in difficult position.
Probably not hardbricked tho, vibrants are very resilient; just keep trying.
Then ttheres jtag and unbrickable mod if youre absolutely sure lifes over
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Thanks guys I ended up recycling my phones cause nothing I did worked. I did try AIO toolbox got the drivers, tried different cables. My SG II is able to be recognized by odin 1.85 with no issues but not my vibrant. I believe it is an issue with the vibrant's usb port. I originally rooted it by doing the update.zip fix from its external sd card, did not use my usb cable at that time. My other vibrant is completely hard bricked since it wont power on with two different fully charged batteries. Anyway thanks again and next time I will research more before modding my phones.
Hey OP,
I did the same exact thing as you and soft bricked it in the same manner. Then when I tried to get Odin to recognize the phone it wouldn't with my Samsung cable. I thought I was out of luck but I went and bought a USB cable made my Belkin from Meijer and Odin recognized it! I looked at the Samsung cable and the Belkin cable and the black plastic inside the microUSB in the Belkin is thicker than the Samsung. I think that helps create a tighter contact between phone microUSB and the cable. I thought I was screwed like you and I fixed the issue with a new cable!! That simple
I used the Samsung Galaxy S II usb cable which looks like it has a very tight connection with the contacts like you said. Thanks anyway I will try that brand of cable, if I ever run into that issue.
Hi
Just brought cable to connect my S2 to my monitor via HDMI.
Now it can display video however, I was hoping I could use my S2 as a portable computer i.e browser, email etc but none of this works?.
Is this no possible or simply due to the rom I'm using?.
Thanks
HDMI works properly only on stock firmware.
Stock, how come?.
EDIT:So I suppose I need to go back to stock OS then. Damn, I don't have a laptop and was hoping to use the S2 as my mini computer.
Does anyone know where I can get a stock OS without all the bloatware or is that impossible, and is it a case of flashing it back to stock?
Hello forums,
I've done a lot of searching but can't seem to find someone with my combo of problems. Awesome.
So here's my set up.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
CM9 2012 06 13 Nightly
Windows 7
I want to update to the stock ICS offered from Samsung. I originally had 3.2 HC and couldn't wait for the Canadian update to roll around so I went CM. But I've been stuck on CM9 Since. Now I have several problems that make it impossible for me to update. Any help would be much appreciated.
1. ODIN and PC will NOT detect the tablet when connected via USB. I get a USB not recognized. MTP is enabled. This means I cannot ODIN flash.
2. I can't find a Canadian ODIN Flashable-build. I'd have to use the US one. That has it's own slew of political problems.
3. CWM will not mount my SD card. I have a CWM Backup with ICS (Someone else uploaded it) saved in CWM's backup dir. but I cannot restore it since CWM 5.5.1.4 will not mount the SD.
I've literally been doing this on and off for about 2 months now and I could really use some help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I could care less if the whole thing were wiped clean if it means I can start using the cameras again.
Thank you.

When you view the tablet in Device Manager, what does it say? What specific error do you get when you plug it in?
Some of the cheap cables are poorly constructed to the point where just normal flexing of the cable breaks the wires going to the connector. If you lose one of the USB transmit/receive wires, the cable will still allow you to charge, but the OS won't recognize the device.
If you know the cable's good, try reinstalling the drivers.
Hi guys,
Its a bit confusing but I'll try to keep it as short as possible. It seems basically that I can charge fine in recovery and download but not in the ROM. Syncing doesn't work at all except download..
I have an i9100m. Ran NeatROM and RootBOX and dabbled with a few roms.
Now I'm not sure if it was the roms or wear and tear but I had ASSUMED until today that my USB port was messed. It would not even charge from a PC nevertheless mount as a mass storage on my PC. It can charge fine from an AC adapter.
Anyway, today I randomly decided to put my phone into download mode and what do you know, the phone detects, and I even see it in ODIN, so I guess my USB port is not messed afterall. Perhaps something with the ROMs and kernels that messed it up?
I think this was around the same time when my Triangle went away.... (I never removed it). In download mode now, it says:
Custom binary Download: NO
Current Binary: SAMSUNG Official
I'm rooted and not stock at all so I wonder if that's the cause?
I was thinking of downloading a stock TAR of my carrier and flashing through ODIN. Do you guys think this is sufficient to "Reset" it back to how it was all the way before? And then I'll root and go back to one of my trusted roms (and not mess around)
Thanks
Do you use the original USB cable to connect your phone? That could be an issue.
Anyways, I don't think that something is messed up software-side if you tried several ROMs.
Worst case is that the USB port of your phone is damaged =/
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9100 mit Tapatalk 4 Beta
Yes I am using the original cable. (all same result but obviously wanted to use the original just in case)
I was thinking the USB port was damaged too because after reading, I guess apparently I accidentally created a usb jig? (triangle went away + stats wiped...)
But that aside, if my USB port is damaged, how come when I'm in download mode, PC and ODIN detect a device is connected and it charges, whereas within the ROM, I get neither ???
Just an update guys,
I used ODIN to flash completely back to stock... and I still cannot charge from PC. Basically computer doesn't see the phone at all. So it has to be a damaged port.. unless theres something else other than the internal SD that I can wipe????? I wanted to wipe everything..
Still really puzzles me though... that ODIN can see it in Download Mode.
One of the mysteries I guess.
Did you try to clean your mini usb port on the mobile? It could help.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
So....your phone only charges on DL Mode?????
Sent from the little guy
I have tried to blow some air in there.. any other suggestions?
Well, the computer only recognizes the device in download mode, Windows sees the device, otherwise it doesn't.Just strange that I was able to flash an entire stock image through ODIN but in the ROM can't even get the computer to recognize that ANYTHING is plugged in (or the phone to charge so the phone doesn't see anything either)
And again, whats even more strange is that i had that one cheap extendable USB cable that probably messed everything up (it removed my triangle..so I accidentally somehow created a jig?) is able to CHARGE the phone even in ROM but still the computer can't see it as a device. LOL
This is so messed. I guess my main thing is even if I go ahead to replace the USB port (get it repaired), do you guys still think this problem would occur... =\

I currently have the exact same problem, except for the flaky usb cable removing your triangle. Mine is still there.
I brought my S2 to a repair shop because i was sure it was my USB port, but the guy there told me it connected in download mode just fine so the USB port should be fine.
Here is what I tried so far
- cleaned USB port
- Used diferent cables
- Used different PC's
- Used different kernals
- Used different roms
- Re-formated/cleared/wiped everything I could find.
Did anyone find a solution? Should I still have my USB port replaced?
