Data not working.... no 3G/edge....etc. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using Data in Canada on my Bell Atrix with no problems...
Then I moved to Cairo, Egypt (UMTS 2100 -supported on the Atrix), and had the APN set and everything, but it doesn't want to work.
I restarted and everything, confirmed the APN details...etc. The Vodafone worker suggested I do a factory reset, but I need to know it won't be for nothing, since it's a BIG PAIN to restore all the apps AGAIN, and move all the contacts from my SIM...
So what's wrong? Will a factory reset help? Thanks.
PS - It's not deodexed, or rooted.

Its broken. Might have something to do w/ going from Canada (-20 F) to Cairo (110 F). Its like going from a hot tub to a swimming pool in the middle of December. Just kidding. I have no clue. =P

[Q] metro PCS Eris lost web and mms

Please don't bash the noob. The story starts, I got this Eris off eBay and had it flashed to metro pcs for $65. Before i left the guys house everything worked (call, text, mms, web). I saw it work and it looked like a good job. Got to work and wanted to play and set up my new phone. The 1x at the top of the screen hurt but what the heck its $40 bill. I surfed and set up my g-mail all good. I could not set up my hot mail so i took a break. Got back to my phone playing and the 1x at the top is gone. No more web or mms. Calls, text, wifi all work. I tried clicking the Mobile network and it just says turning on, but it does not. I taped and re-taped every setting and 2 days later still the same. So if someone could help me I'm willing to learn. My only other shot is to go back to the same guy with my wallet open. Please guys don't let that happen.
Firmware version 2.1

I have another ? maybe someone that already has a metropcs flash can answer this. If i go to settings/ privacy/ factory data reset - will it erase the 2.1 os Root and metropcs flash. I was woundering if that would fix my no web no mms problem or would it turn it back to stock verizon. many thanks....

Have you looked at this thread yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289&highlight=metropcs
Yes and thank you I did see that post. It just went over my head a bit. I ended up calling the guy that flashed metro for me with no problems. He was real cool (no charge). He told me metroPCS changed some settings server side. So 20 min later and I'm back online. He is real tight with his info cuz this is how he pays his bills. I did ask him about the reset through settings and I'm glad I did. His answer is it would remove the internet and mms part of his work.
Please help!`
I called the people that flashed mine and they want to charge me to fix the issue. Does anyone know how to fix this issue but in layman term? Please?????
I'm sorry but i don't know. This past weekend after my internet and mms went down I was checking craigslist. I saw more than a few post saying your internet not working $20 and we fix. So i guess my guy told the truth that metropcs had changed something. Good luck to you look around and find the best deal...

I have metropcs flash and a hard reset (factory reset) does turn it back to stock verizion. I had to go back to the metropcs store to have it flashed again.
My Motorola Droid NO INTERNET or MMS issue
I had my Moto Droid flashed in mid September and everything was sweet. Internet worked great, google maps, picture messaging. the key is that I had to get the flash done "underground" becuase Metro PCS stores don't flash in a way that facilitates internet and MMS. So anyway, by the 10th of Ocotber, the internet was gone. I tried all kinds of restarting and re-configuring settings...to no avail.
When I called Metro PCS customber service, they told me that since I wasn't supposed to have internet in the first place, they removed it. He said that I would have to purchase a metro pcs phone, if I wanted to have the full service again.
Then, I called the Metro store owner who had linked me with the underground setup in the first place. I asked him about this issue and he confirmed that Metro PCS had, on the 1st of October, begun eliminating internet from non-Metro phones. Apparently (my opinion), no one is buying the ridiculous low-qual phones metro has to offer and so they want to lash out and force people to buy their phones.
I say they either get better phones or they lose a lot of customers. Yes, it's only $40 but is it really worth all the hassle.
There are tons of internet repair services for $10-$40 on craigslist, but does anyone know how long the fixups last?
All of what you say maybe true. But I'm not sure. The reason I say this is 1) Metro PCS is getting ready for 4g. 2) When I log in to my account at Metro the phone listed is one they sell. 3) now this one could go either way - my guy does agree with you but says it rarely happens. I.E. he is a hacker. My thoughts not really he has had more time to play with phones no more no less... Now as far as luck goes I got you beat. :-( My internet turned off in less than 15 hrs. Now the $40 bill yes you get what you pay for, so I will take the 1x. But anyway it goes and no-matter who is right I will keep my fingers crossed.
How do you return to pre-flash status?

Eris MetroPcs
You do not need any special ROM for the Eris.
Just use the available Android 2.1 ROM that is the normal ROM update from Android/HTC. File on the web: PB00IMG
Install that file. Then use Token's Metropcs v3...not v3.5 beta! Also install u2nl and Autostart. Download from Market.
You need to set all the settings on the phone via ##778. YOU MUST HAVE A FLASHED MetroPCS Eris!! Make sure the MNC is set to 27...not 12!
For the Eris, there is no need to use QPST or CDMA Workshop like everyone says.
Password is your MSL from whiterabbit.
cheers

Serious Data Problem

So long story short, I opened a new line and swapped my hardware to the new line for the TB on my line. After I left BB, I called Verizon to do the swap. They said they couldn't because my SIM card was programmed for the original line and I had to go back to a VZW to get a new provisioned SIM, which I did. It worked when I left, but since late last night, I have no 4G or 3G. Any ideas what the issue could be?
Oh and when the phone goes into sleep mode and I awaken it, the 4G is lit up and then shortly after, no data.

when i first got my phone, the original 4g card wasnt working. turns out is was just bad... they swapped it for a new one and all is well. so i'm assuming u've already tried to reboot and see if that helps. maybe that card is bad as well? hmmm....u should go back to see if they can swap out to another one.
When I was in the store getting mine they were talking about how they'd been having allot of issues activating phone because of the large demand was causing a backup in the switch. There was a guy that walked in about 5 min before me and his would not activate, but then mine activated perfectly. So I guess it was intermittent. Makes me wonder if you got caught up in that backup when you activated the second sim.

Should I go back?
I would do a battery pull (pretty sure you've already done that) and remove and reseat the sim as well (if you haven't already) and if that doesn't work I'd reach out to Cust Service. May be something easily fixable in the system, save ya the time and gas of driving to the store.
maybe try a *228 and press 1 to program .... just a thought, I hate having to deal with customer service
I could be wrong but I thought *228 did not work with these phones because of the sim card.

I'd assume there is some good system in place for phones ordered online and what not.
How did anyone who ordered their phone online activate?

My 4g would drop off randomly and I just assumed it was my area's LTE working out it's kinks. Then after doing the manual 3g only switch, the data was still randomly dropping off, so I was up to try anything out.
I pulled the battery and reseat the Sim like you said and so far so good...mind explaining that?, lol, doesnt make sense to me.
thanks in advance

Improperly seated SIM card? Corrupted memory that a battery pull resets? Good Karma?

Wow, exact same experience I had yesterday. I went in late, like 5:00 PM. I had to wait a while for someone to actually help me, but once I said what phone I wanted it wasn't more than 20 minutes to get the transaction done.
Do NOT do *228.
I had this same problem today when activating my phone. Just call Verizon and they will walk you through getting it activated correctly.
Ironically, on my way to VZW it suddenly started working. LOL. "clog" in the system? I don't know, but it's fast as hell!
I don't have 4G in my area yet but I got the TB anyway. I love it. But the 3G does the same thing, just keeps dropping out.
This keeps happening to me also. Its very Frustrating. What the number to VZW Customer Service?

doesnt it still update the other radio? not everything uses lte.
No need for *228 because the sim card now is provisioned with auto PRL for when the phone does enter 3G service
DO NOT EVER ESN SWAP THE PHONE TO A NON 4G
Just like mentioned initially, the sim card and phone are designed for 4G lines only so swapping back to your old 3G device or onto another line is a bad idea.
If your trying to do an alternative upgrade and the store your at is full of morons, ask them if they could possibly do a Customer Provided Equipment Upgrade and then then ring out the phone in their point of sale system with the contract you have signed.
Until VZ Corporate figures out another way to do alternative upgrades, this is the only method I have found to get around this
Yes in many cases (including me) we have found it to take a while for 3G or 4G to stay on. Give it time. dial #832 to prove your phone can make calls and receive text messages. anywhere from 10 to some cases an hour before the phone is in full lock.
If your still having a problem go out for a walk or drive, heard switching between towers can help push the process.
I had the exact same problem as the OP, to fix it Verizon made me go back to best buy, you have to get the phone exchanged for a new one and then they have to call in to setup the new untouched TB on the line you want it on. Believe me it took 3 hours for them to finally fix it, and that's what did it.

[Q] Network/data strange behavior, logcat?

So, all of my family just signed up for AT&T from T-Mobile and most of us got Galaxy S II's from Amazon for $0.01 (good deal). However, my brother and I are both having data issues. We'll be connected to HSPA+ with 4/5 bars, but sometimes anything that requires data (webpage, email) won't load, an there will be minimal data activity in the status bar. I have to click links multiple times for a connection to finally occur (if not wait a minute). Other times, I've waited so long I've turned airport mode on and off. My brother tested his GSII next to someone's Atrix, and their Atrx loaded a webpage without any latency, while my brother's browser just sat there with the initial loading bar, no network activity.
I haven't done much testing/replacing the ROM/radio, because methinks the stock ROM shouldn't be having this problem in the first place. Can I check logcat w/o root?
Could this be a cellular issue? We ported our numbers from T-Mobile, and still have the T-Mobile account. I never had to activate my AT&T phone when I got it from Amazon (came with SIM card, worked out of box). I also noticed strange behavior. I had both my old T-Mobile phone and my new AT&T phone on at the same time, and my T-Mobile phone rang, even though I had supposedly ported my number to AT&T. So if that can happen maybe it's some crazy SIM issue going on?
Any advice or pointers of assistance from the GSII forum would be appreciable.
Thanks!
Sounds like the AT&T sim card is not activated, or fully activated. Id call them and verify. Also make sure that you are on a 4G data plan... that can also cause issues with data.
When you port a number it can take up to 48 hours to fully port the number. Until it is done both phones will ring. The reason for the bad satanist that even though it works out of box you have to call Att to set the account up the rest of the way. I can't tell you how many people came into my store due to this.

Update: Just took phone out of pocket and loaded cnn.com. Tooks ~20 seconds before page even started loading (beyond initial bit of browser loading bar). Both up/down HSPA+ became active at various points in the time frame.
This seems to be a common occurrence. I remember talking to an AT&T rep from Georgia or something because my dad called her to get our account in order. She called my phone, as was like "Oh you're talking on your GSII? -- it must already be activated then." She made no indication that it still needed to be activated.
Sorry damn keyboard. I ment bad data connection.
I used to run a small retailer but still do freelance support for a few of the Att stores around town. You would be amazed how many store managers have no idea about the products they sell lmao
Call Att and get tech support and have them refreash your connection to the data servers. That should fix you right up.

How do I get my APN back to Verizon and the USA once I return from vacation?

I am traveling to Europe and running beans ROM. I will be using a Sim for the country I am visiting and setting the APN for it to work while overseas. Once my trip is over how do I return ithe APN back to USA like I never left? Thanks so much

Here is what I do:
1. Take the other sim out and put Verizon back in
2. Go to Settings and Phone Settings
3. Mobile Networks.
4. Network Mode and pick the LTE one instead of global
5. After it refreshes, for lack of a better word, you should be connected to Verizon again
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the answer! Any other tips for making the change to the European Sim. Or any other tips for changing apns
I did the same in Iceland last month...you likely won't need to add the APN info when you get there (i didn't change anything when i popped the new sim in or when I got home). It worked automatically.... Apparently the update to VRAMC3 took care of it all.

Yep...everything worked perfectly. I used maps with GPS a ton, internet, email. I used the phone and sms sparingly as the rates overseas aren't great, but they worked just fine. I spent hours pouring over what I needed to do to make this work before I got there and it ended up being the easiest thing. SIM in, boot up and you are cooking. When I got home, put the Verizon SIM back in, boot up and it's like I never left.
I also used Verizon roaming this past weekend in Canada. $25 for 100MB isn't a great deal but you can use your regular phone number, take calls, etc. For a quick trip it was fine. If you plan to use a lot of data, go with a local sim.
Thanks again. I have spent at least an hour prepping and learning about apns and what needs to be done when traveling. I hope to get there buy a local Sim and pop it in and hope for the best. Somehow I Dont think it will be that easy for me

I probably added the APNs 100 times manually before I left and they never saved...it must match the SIM to show up., so don't bother, it will drive you crazy. When the VRAMC3 update came out the APN list was updated. Pick a major provider and my guess is it will work flawlessly.

Best piece of advice. Depending on where you are going, stick to providers like Orange(FR), TIM/Vodafone(IT), or the other biggies, and you shouldn't have any headaches.

[Q] loss of service

I have the note i717 and yesterday all of a sudden my phone is losing service. It is rooted, can't make calls or use data. Any suggestions on what might be wrong? I already went and got a new sim and it did not fix the issue? Thank you
Airplane mode?
Does Wi-Fi work?
Stock or custom Rom?
Did you delete anything?
You can try a factory reset.
