Recently just got my GS2 and I love it (coming from iPhone 4 and use to have HTC Magic). But I encountered a problem with my phone the same day I got it which is that the vibration stops working after I updated the phone to the latest firmware provided by Samsung through Kies.
I've tried going into the test mode *#0*# and just select vibration but the screen just turn black and the phone won't vibrate. I am trying to find the official firmware for my phone but I can't seem to find it anywhere. My phone CSC is different from the one on the Official Firmware thread. I can't remember of the top of my head what it is but if it helps, mine seems to be an import set and the CSC starts with J.
I've tried doing a hard reset through the OS but it also didn't help. What I am trying to do now is trying to find some way to reflash the OS but Kies don't allow me to do that and I am not sure where to get the official firmware as I am afraid that if I flash it with other firmware that is of a different CSC, my warranty may not be honoured.
So just wondering if anybody here got any tips and helps to solve this problem or do I have to send it back to the shop?
One try Kies emergency firmware recovery .
Two a factory reset .
Official firmware for your phone is only on Kies Samsung stock Samsungs not phone providers .
Two choices one service centre Samsung
two is the unofficial route of flashing via Odin stock firmware . Samsung will not refuse warrant but seller may .CSC may not be for your area enter APN settings yourself .

I also noticed a lack of vibration today. Could not get it to work whatever i did, but I did not update it... In fact I didn't do anything except trying out my new Samsung car holder with it.
I suggest you use this thread for further analysis.
I debranded mine last night but couldnt follow the final step. Now I`ve plugged my SGSII into the pc Kies can`t tell me what firmware version I`m
using. Even worse, as I`m a new user I can`t post on that thread to ask for assistance! LOL
I wish i`d left it well alone now, all I wanted to do was debrand it so I could update to KE7. Sigh

Debrand mean remove bloatware and does not give you an update path .
You can try a factory reset and wipe all data see if Kies picks up update .
Or use stock rom KE7 via Odin or the current update KF1 .
KIES will update original firmware when its available but may not pick up stock firmware .

Just flash KE7 without doing any debranding stuff and hard reset after the device starts for the first time.
Cheers jje, I`m assuming if I want to use stock rom that means I need to root the phone? I`ve never dabbled in that side of things before and was rather nervous just about debranding.
I almost wish I could undo what I`ve done and just wait for Three to send out the update. I`m assuming thats not so easy?
Eureka, suddenly i noticed that my phone's vibration ability was back when walking to a shop with my headphones in. It seems like the headphone jack somehow influences things. Maybe a bad connection between these components?
Maybe you should try this out to confirm this?

Hi All,
I've just gotten myself the new SS2 and all was perfect. Well, perfect up until I installed the latest firmware highlighted in my Kies 2.0 program. Now, when I turn on my phone I get this error message: com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. This error message is not present when I remove the SIM card and restart.
I've tried doing a factory reset both with and without the SIM card installed. The problem does not go away
As far as I can tell, the phone seems to be working normally otherwise. What's going on?!?
Here are the details:
Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100
Kernel version I9100XXKDJ
Gingerbread.XWKE2
Any help would be greatly appreciated
It is said that KE2 has problems with orange networks. are u at orange?
if so, use KE1.
Reinstall firmware .
Kies Emergency firmware recovery .
Or Samsung service centre
Or use Odin to flash a generic software .Or just a kernel .
jje
Thanks for the replies! yes I am with Orange. Damn.
If I install KE1 will I be given the option to reinstall the firmware? Apart form the error message, my phone seems to be working. Should I wait for the next update and do it via KE1?
Thanks for all the help so far, much appreciated
Just use ODIN to reflash the KE1 firmware, that solved the problem for me. I'm not gonna bother with KE2 until it's sorted (which might be never, knowing Samsung).

Hi, Im on Orange too...so Im reluctant to upgrade via Kies based on your experience and th eadvice here. Keis is offering me KE2, did you find a way of using KE1 without rooting i.e via Keis?...I dont feel confident enough with my new phone to start rooting just yet. If not ill wait till KE3...
Thanks
Hello,
Im new here, dont know if this is in the right place or anything and to be honest i dont know a lot about using forums lol - so dont moan
I had a galaxy s on T-mobile and used to flash roms all the time no problem.
I purchase a galaxy s 2 and flash my first rom which failed (Locked up PC) and then when i turned the phone off it would not come back on.
No power!
I tried everything i could think of! 3 button recovery - USB JIG - replacing battery, removing battery, charging etc etc.
What i would like to know is:
I have a new galaxy s 2 coming soon and i would like to flash something like 2.2 or 2.3 and let kies take over and fully update me on generic firmware (Not T-Mobile firmware)
But from past experience Kies normally complains and says "This firmware cannot be updated"
So my question is: i would like to know the best, safest way to flash a firmware to get what i want from kies and which version i should download.
Also if someone can explain kernels to me if i need them!
Thanks in advance!!!
Hey All,
Noob here with a question. I had a rooted Tmobile Galaxy S2 that I upgraded the firmware to 2.3.6 though Kies. For some reason I had an issue where the phone would not shut off. Everytime you would turn it off it would reboot after 2 seconds. Anyways, I did a hard reset and unrooted using "GalaxyS2TMobile/unroot/SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax.zip" (Cant post links yet) back to stock Tmobile 2.3.5.
Now my constant power on problem is solved but I cant upgrade the firmware to 2.3.6 though kies anymore. It says "Your device does not support firmware upgrading via kies". I have read that it could be an issue with CSC regions but when I dial *#272*IMEI# all I see is TMB sales region which is the one I am on. I uninstalled kies, reinstalled the newest version, same thing. The funny thing that I did a hard reset like this before using the same ROM and was able to upgrade, I don't know what happened now.
At the moment the phone is completely wiped to stock, unrooted so on. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You're in the I9100 forums.
I am sorry, could somebody please move this to SGH-T989 forum. Thank you.
i think its because of the flash count which is recorded you need a usb jig to reset it then you will be able to update

Pardon my ignorance but what is usb jig? I actually found another stock ROM on this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350360
Flashed it with Odin and after was able to upgrade to 2.3.6. Still would like to know what is usb jig and how to reset flash counts. Thank you.
OK, I did some research on the USB jig and I will make one later but the thing I don't need it to reset my counter because it is at 0. I never installed any custom ROMs. I don't know why Kies would not let me upgrade with the first stock ROM.
I don't believe a jig works with 2.3.6
I have mind on order
Will update the post when i get mind
Got it for £1.15
I have a galaxy s2 that I adore and am very rarely away from it for more than 5 minutes.
A few months ago a mate rooted for me so He could install some free software he had (I never bothered with it in the end!)
I let my phone do an update a few nights ago and it got as far as saying your phone will reboot, after that all I got is the Samsung Logo and it flickers a bit???????? Is this a boot loop?
I've tried to get to the reboot screen where I can delete user data but get the same flickering screen?
I can get to the screen with the android logo and and downloading below it. I believe this to be the odin screen? I've read that is where you can flash new firmware onto the phone?
I work with computers everyday so I know my way round windows etc but what I could really do with is instructions on what to download to my pc, which firmware version I need and how to get it onto my phone?
I've read a bit about kernels?? I thought he was the fried chicken guy!
I'm on Uk Vodafone and I'm not bothered about losing any program's or settings that I have on my phone.
Please please help I go away with work on Monday and I'm dreading going with my spare Nokia
I'll happily buy a beer or 2 if someone can help me without me pleading dum to Vodafone support
Thanks v much

Guides here (there's a bootloop thread link in that thread which might be able to solve the bootloop problem for you).
Here is your solution.... Since you do not bothered losing ur settings application and sms... Contacts...
First of check your mobile box and see the version.. Is it GT I9100 OR GT I9100G
Let me tell you one more thing... The screen which you can see with android logo and written "downloading " below is called DOWNLOAD MODE.
Steps to follow..
1.Download the stock rom from sammobile.com for your country... Go for release version 4.0.3
2. Download odin version 1.85 its an windows application so copy it to your pc.... And run it..
3.the extension of downloaded stock rom will. Tar or. Md5 if it is rar then see the content inside.. You have. Tar
4. Now go to download mode volume up, power button and home button..
5. Attache your mobile to your computer using data cable...
5.1 make sure you have no kies services running.
6 open odin.. In that you can see pda section give the path of stock rom on your computer.. Don't change any setting in odin.
7. Do start..
Done... One more thing by this you will lose your rooot so tell your friend to root again

Download stock firmware and restore via odin
Hello good people from xdadevelopers,
PREREQUISITES:
I come to you as a noob seaking some answers. Somewhere in November I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 from Orange that came with the Orange Branded software. Because the phone kept switching off (the Sleep of death bug, i think) I sent it in for service and it came back with the same problem.
Seeing that Samsung Keys does not have an option to restore the phone (as I could do from iTunes for my iPhone) I reflashed the phone with 4.0.4 Android XXLQ5 osing ODIN. The phone works better now, still get the SOD, but not as frequently.
The problem that I am facing now is that I cannot use keys anymore to update and since the 4.1.2 Update should start shortly I don't know what I can do to pass to the new version.
QUESTIONS:
1. How can I do a software restore from keys to the new Android version once an update is available?
2. Are there any precautions that I have to keep in mind since I have the LLQ5 version installed (I used the emmc checker from the store and my chip is "sane")?
3. If I flash the Orange version back from Sammobile, will I be able to use Keys again?
I have also added a screenshot of how the phone battery stats looked after recovering from a sleep of death issue just in case you know if it's another problem and I missed the diagnostic.

Hi Peaceful Droid,
Thank you for your answer. Could it really be that simple as flashing the official ROM and then the phone is yet again accessible through Keys?
If this is the only thing I have to do than thank you
This phone has been a pest since I bought it. I don't know why Keys doesn't let you to simply make a restore to get a stock phone as you could in iTunes. There it was that easy, just connect the phone and click restore then set-up as new iPhone and problem solved. Back to stock in 30 minutes.
Thank you,
Andrei Doru Tudose
Yes. remember always read the instructions carefully and do it step by step and you will never face any issues...
and my dear friend if samsung also do as apple did then apple will knock doors of courts again...
