Recently just got my GS2 and I love it (coming from iPhone 4 and use to have HTC Magic). But I encountered a problem with my phone the same day I got it which is that the vibration stops working after I updated the phone to the latest firmware provided by Samsung through Kies.
I've tried going into the test mode *#0*# and just select vibration but the screen just turn black and the phone won't vibrate. I am trying to find the official firmware for my phone but I can't seem to find it anywhere. My phone CSC is different from the one on the Official Firmware thread. I can't remember of the top of my head what it is but if it helps, mine seems to be an import set and the CSC starts with J.
I've tried doing a hard reset through the OS but it also didn't help. What I am trying to do now is trying to find some way to reflash the OS but Kies don't allow me to do that and I am not sure where to get the official firmware as I am afraid that if I flash it with other firmware that is of a different CSC, my warranty may not be honoured.
So just wondering if anybody here got any tips and helps to solve this problem or do I have to send it back to the shop?
One try Kies emergency firmware recovery .
Two a factory reset .
Official firmware for your phone is only on Kies Samsung stock Samsungs not phone providers .
Two choices one service centre Samsung
two is the unofficial route of flashing via Odin stock firmware . Samsung will not refuse warrant but seller may .CSC may not be for your area enter APN settings yourself .

I also noticed a lack of vibration today. Could not get it to work whatever i did, but I did not update it... In fact I didn't do anything except trying out my new Samsung car holder with it.
I suggest you use this thread for further analysis.
I debranded mine last night but couldnt follow the final step. Now I`ve plugged my SGSII into the pc Kies can`t tell me what firmware version I`m
using. Even worse, as I`m a new user I can`t post on that thread to ask for assistance! LOL
I wish i`d left it well alone now, all I wanted to do was debrand it so I could update to KE7. Sigh

Debrand mean remove bloatware and does not give you an update path .
You can try a factory reset and wipe all data see if Kies picks up update .
Or use stock rom KE7 via Odin or the current update KF1 .
KIES will update original firmware when its available but may not pick up stock firmware .

Just flash KE7 without doing any debranding stuff and hard reset after the device starts for the first time.
Cheers jje, I`m assuming if I want to use stock rom that means I need to root the phone? I`ve never dabbled in that side of things before and was rather nervous just about debranding.
I almost wish I could undo what I`ve done and just wait for Three to send out the update. I`m assuming thats not so easy?
Eureka, suddenly i noticed that my phone's vibration ability was back when walking to a shop with my headphones in. It seems like the headphone jack somehow influences things. Maybe a bad connection between these components?
Maybe you should try this out to confirm this?
(copied from this thread)
I punched in this code: *#*#2663#*#* to update the firmware for my touch-screen and touch-key.
When I hit "Touch Key FW update" it updated really fast and everything was great!
When I hit "TSO FW update" is said "Now Updating... Warning! Do not turn off!" And it STAYED THERE FROZEN...
It said "Do not turn off!" So I left it until the battery died!
Then I plugged it in to charge it, and now the back button and menu button BOTH don't work at all! I tried two more times to "TSP FW Update" but it's totally permenantly frozen!
I tried flashing the stock firmware!
I can't get to the menu to do "factory reset!"
What do I do??
Have you tried using a USB jig and reloading firmware using Odin?

I have completely reloaded the firmware twice since then from a stock rom. I used Odin for it. My operating system works fine, generally, but the menu and back keys will not work.
But, are you saying that I can use Odin to specifically reload the TSP firmware? Because I haven't done that. If that's what you're saying, do you know where I can get TSP firmware?

Never heard of that and you dont need a uSB jig anyway as you are loading firmware ok .
I would download correct stock firmware .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero if rooted or custom roms used ..
Return to service centre .

Hi,
So this issue has been fixed??
Hi all. Well... It happened to me too. I followed an advice to remove 4.3 lag by updating this, and lost all touch.
The screen won't even turn on now, but I know the phone is powered up because when I plug in a usb cable I get the windows popup.
Wow this sucks so much and I'd like to ask for any advice if there's a fix for this. I'll try to check if I can enter recovery and reflash the rom, but I think all my buttons are dead.
---------- Post added at 06:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:59 PM ----------
Update: after maybe an hour it came back to life. I had good battery so I guess it was downloading/updating stuff, during which I had no control of the phone.
As far as the experience enjoyment, I give it a 2/10, would not do again.
So it was in that "Now Updating... Warning! Do not turn off!" mode for a hour and after that all was normal again? Is the wakeup problem solved with that?

Hi there pattmayne and particularly anyone still getting mileage from their GT-I9000M,
I had this issue with Galaxy S Vibrant (North America) - GT-I9000M (the M is significant). I thought I would explore the *#2663# option and hey, why not update everything while I am there. I lost the use of my Menu and Back soft buttons and no amount of flashing or factory resetting seemed to help.
I found a promising solution on an obscure board (to me : forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2181386) as follows :
- Run the TSP FW update,
- Although it may appear to be stuck, wait a good number of minutes to be sure it has done what it needs to do,
- Interrupt the « update » specifically by removing the battery,
- [wait a few seconds for memory to discharge],
- Insert the battery, start up again, and run the other update, TS FW,
- Voila !
In order to access the special code, I had to flash back to stock and for some reason, I decided to flash back to Froyo instead of Gingerbread. The result being that from 2.2-Froyo, the TSP FW update actually worked, so I did not have to bother with pulling the battery. I am very happy to have my phone back in one piece !
I much prefer Heimdall over Odin, however I did have to do some research to find a decent Heimdall tutorial.
You should be able to find the stock files for Froyo by searching for GT_I9000M_UGJK3_UGJK3_BMCJK3.
If you can't, ping me and I will get around to providing a full write-up on how to mod your GT-I9000M (with many thanks to those that have gone before me).
Hi, i have more or less the same problem with my Galaxy S4 GT I9505. After updating to lollipop (5.0.1) the back and menu buttons were not working anymore so i started searching for some solutions, and i saw the updating touchscreen firmware option and now the fit touch is not working anymore as the buttons. I read that making that i could have fried the LCD Touchscreen. I dont hope so, the LCD is new, I've re-flashed to 5.0.1 as a reinstall. And theres no solution. I need help, i cant afford another 65€ in other LCD

There is a 26 page long thread over on the S4 forum about exactly this problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3250132
It is doubtful that anybody on the S2 forum will be able to help you as anything that works for the S2 probably won't work on the S4......
Sorry fella, your best bet is to post in the thread I linked you to.....
Good luck.

Hi all,
Have been waiting for the ICS for a long time and finally it showed up yesterday when plugged-in my phone to computer running Kies. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me (crashed during downloading to phone) and now it asked me to do a emergency firmware recovery using Kies again!
My question is
Is it possible to flash other ROMs, like AOKP or CM9, without a working FW?
I can still go to the download mode, i.e. Vol UP + Vol DOWN while plugin phone, but it said 'battery low, unable to download' or something similar. So, if I recharge the battery, I think I should be able to get into download mode.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

We've had ICS for a while now. You smart ones that want to wait for at&t and samsung to push a broken build out to your devices amuse me. And look what happened.
Wonder what you guys are even on here for. Stock phone, Used proper update technique. and you come to a phone hacking site for support.
Why not call at&t?
to answer your question, Yes it is possible. but if you want a stock phone, why the hell come here?

I've tried to get to the reboot screen where I can delete user data but get the same flickering screen?
I can get to the screen with the android logo and and downloading below it. I believe this to be the odin screen? I've read that is where you can flash new firmware onto the phone?
I work with computers everyday so I know my way round windows etc but what I could really do with is instructions on what to download to my pc, which firmware version I need and how to get it onto my phone?

Guides here (there's a bootloop thread link in that thread which might be able to solve the bootloop problem for you).
Here is your solution.... Since you do not bothered losing ur settings application and sms... Contacts...
First of check your mobile box and see the version.. Is it GT I9100 OR GT I9100G
Let me tell you one more thing... The screen which you can see with android logo and written "downloading " below is called DOWNLOAD MODE.
Steps to follow..
1.Download the stock rom from sammobile.com for your country... Go for release version 4.0.3
2. Download odin version 1.85 its an windows application so copy it to your pc.... And run it..
3.the extension of downloaded stock rom will. Tar or. Md5 if it is rar then see the content inside.. You have. Tar
4. Now go to download mode volume up, power button and home button..
5. Attache your mobile to your computer using data cable...
5.1 make sure you have no kies services running.
6 open odin.. In that you can see pda section give the path of stock rom on your computer.. Don't change any setting in odin.
7. Do start..
Done... One more thing by this you will lose your rooot so tell your friend to root again

Download stock firmware and restore via odin
Hi,
I have the following problem, it's kind of long and I can't pinpoint the exact issue so I'm not certain what to do, update, flash, send it back in, ...
I acquired my S2 when it came out in our country and never had issues on gingerbread until wifi started to have very bad reception end of 2012. I was advised to connect to Kies and update the firmware to see if this helped.
Kies then updated me to 4.0.4., and the wifi issues were not solved; Instead, what I got was 'lag' i.e., the screen blocks from time to time, on basically anything, scrolling, gaming, video, etc., when you scroll through the start screens it's sometimes all very 'choppy'. Also, the phone rebooted from time to time.
Looking up what I could about all of this I found the brickbug issue and installed the app, and the phone turned out to have it. I didn't do a vanilla clean install when going from 2.3 to 4.0.4. and so obviously I couldn't do a factory reset now, so I decided to hand it in to the store I bought it, still under guarantee.
I got it back now, 6 days after which to me seemed a little fast, and it stated 'changed the module, updated firmware, problem lies with user's backup'. I turned the phone on again and after inserting all my info again and getting to the apps, I could see the problem was still there.
All I know right now after testing a number of things:
-Live streaming, playing video, angry birds, strolling through anything: It blocks from time to time. No major freeze, just very sloppy scrolling or for video's etc. it just stops for a second.
-Tested and still has the brickbug even though I noted this for the repair, and it's still stuck on 4.0.4.
-As far as I'm able to tell 4.1.2. isn't available for my country yet (Belgium) and anyway my CSC for some reason says 'Luxemburg' Keeping in mind I still have warranty, I'd prefer not to tinker around with Odin as I'm not familiar with it.
-RAM says 827MB out of which, when turning on the phone and just going into task manager, more than 500MB is already in use, which in my eyes might account for sloppy movement from time to time, but I have no idea if this might get better with 4.1.2. or if it might be linked to the memory and the bug.
What's the best bet for this, wait for 4.1.2. to appear for my country and update through KIES, and see if it gets better? That's what the technicians where the phone got sent from the store told me; If it's a bug in the chip or motherboard issues, it seems my country doesn't even have a samsung center so they'd need to push it up to level 3 technical issues and send it to another country, and if I can't prove the issue is hardware-related, I just get it back. The 'module' they changed they said was just an USB connection that was a little loose. After that they ran tests on it for 2 days but didn't find any issues (again, they don't test speed or chip/motherboard issues it seems)
Any help welcome
I'm guessing your device is not carrier branded (flash nordic LSD or the Netherlands FW).
On the other hand RAM usage and lagginess may result of carrier bloatware (so it is carrier branded....).
Which one is it, there are a couple of solutions for you.

Hiya,
No, I bought the phone just in the box in a shop, no contract, carrier, etc., I had multiple sim cards of different networks in side of it over the small 2 years I have it. I only had it back for 24 hours and basically didn't do anything with it except install 3 apps to test the things I mentioned, so I can't see bloatware being the issue.
Before updating to 4.1.2. and especially flashing with Odin (as said, I probably won't do until warranty is void in a small bit), is there a possibility the memory can be damaged due to the bug/chip/4.0.4., or is this kind of issue always related to firmware etc.?
Here's the info, if needed:
Model: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.4.
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version:
3.0.15-157945

Well, obviously all I know is that the scanning app detects it, wouldn't know what it's done for the rest, didn't brick yet in any case. so if you try to update and it doesn't work for this reason, any particular error message you're supposed to get in KIES?

brick bug is software related.
Flash another ROM, JB is the obvious choice here.
Report back if lagginess persists.

I just installed the latest Kies and connected it, but seems there is no 4.1.2. available yet with Kies. As I'm unfamiliar with any other form of upgrading, I'm guessing I'll have to sit it out, and who knows with my CSC in Luxemburg when that will become available, that country hardly has people in it lol.
Why wait? Just download Odin and flash JB.
Its easy.
It even has Belgium lang if im not wrong.
Its just normal flash no rooting etc.

There is no Belgian language, you're mostly either French or Dutch or, for a small minority, German
If it's not available yet, I'm assuming whichever JB I'd get and install through Odin will be rather visible I didn't install it 'officially', so if I would have any issue that would stay like the permanent lag under 4.1.2., I can't really hand in the phone again for repair or they'd notice (obviously, since with all repairs, they update the firmware themselves and would know it's not available).

There is a Netherlands (Belgium) language possible.
For the warrenty thing: afaik there is a way to get from custom to stock without them (people of samsung) noticing (is this a right word?) it. Only when your cpu is dead you don't have the option to go back to stock.

Well the language is not really an issue for me, as I put my gear in English. So far from what I found the only thing I could possibly do is install Odin and flash with a 'regular' 4.1.2. file, AFAIK and since it's not available yet, if I would keep my problems or even find any new ones, I'd either need to downgrade again or wait when it's finally released officially, Lord knows when that will be
Flash will take 5 min to do. Same as downgrade.

Yah, probably goes faster through Odin, the new firmware takes a Gig of space so Kies probably takes ages.
But as said I'm not familiar with Odin + if it doesn't solve the issue I'd need to bump it back to 4.0.4. and hand it in; If 4.1.2. becomes available officially and the issue remains I can hand it in with that and can write down the issue was both under 4.0.4. and 4.1.2. especially after I wipe everything under 4.1.2. and it still doesn't get better.

Well both Luxemburg and Belgium are small countries so I'm assuming it's entirely possible one phone gets in a shop in the other, it's probably the same region, besides never had issues under gingerbread.
As for guiding me through it, I've been looking around for a good guide for a simple install but most of what you find are with remarks like 'Be careful to check and uncheck the right boxes or you might brick your device!' in Odin, then never an explanation about which boxes
I downloaded Odin (the new one, 3.4 or so?) and got it on a laptop, so all I'd need is basically getting the rom somewhere and being certain what to push and what not to
I'm a bit sceptic about a flash on the notebook too tho, it's not a very performant machine, but the rest I got are either on linux or in repair right now. I could put Odin on a desktop without network that's more reliable but it's still on XP so I'd probably need to get the 9100 drivers too then for it to recognize the phone correctly.
Anyway, all help is appreciated, I'll name my firstborn after your kittens in return!
Install Odin 3.07
Download RoM from SamFirmware or some other place
Place phone in download mode. Vol down+power+homebutton
When got in download mode press vol up
Now connect phone and start odin
Now you should se yellow colour in top in one of boxes and com port.
Now unzip rom
Put it in PDA
Now press start and wait.
When done you will see text PASS and green box.

lol, hate cats, don't worry. Name him/her Odin.
It's always better to flash via laptop, bo power off risk
You've got 2 choices here:
Flash via Odin: you'll need a pc and latest kies, plus s2's usb cable.
Once in odin you'll have to select 3 files from an extracted folder, check the ticked boxes and double check where did you place the files (it's easier than it looks).
Flash via Mobile Odin: Really easy flashing tool, no pc needed, all flashibg is done with your phone and the device itself does almost all the work.
It hardly goes south when flashing but when it does the life safe is regular Odin. This means that's it's the safest way to perform any first flash.
There are 2 versions, free and paid.
Free: manually download the kernel (easy to find).
Paid (root needed): Get's the kernel on it own, enables you to select EverRoot (roots any stock ROM while it flashes it allowing you to be rooted at all times) and inject SuperUser app as well as M.O app. Costs 5 bucks (around 3 euro).
Which way you wanna go?

lol, hate cats, don't worry. Name him/her Odin.
It's always better to flash via laptop, bo power off risk
You've got 2 choices here:
Flash via Odin: you'll need a pc and latest kies, plus s2's usb cable.

Ah, didn't know there was a mobile odin, didn't find info on that on any site I went to. Might be easier to just download that and any necessary files through wifi on the phone itself it it's simpler. I wouldn't mind paying extra, but I have no knowledge of root so I don't need it. I could always amuse myself with it when the phone is completely out of warranty anyway.
No root is needed for the regular mobile version? Odd, that's what I find on google. I'm assuming it doesn't show up in any of the 'regular' download options either on the s2
Odin: No root
MobileODIN: Root needed.
