[Q] com.android.settings not working

Hi Al,
Yesterday after update (Settings\About\Check for update) I'm not able to access settings screen, I have done factory reset twice already but it is still the same.
I'm not able to connect to the Kies, because I believe USB debugging is on, and I cannot turn it off because I can't get to settings. So my PC not recognizing phone now, so any update is impossible. Phone have never been rooted and it is Vodafone UK.
The fault: The application com.android.settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
Any ideas how to resolved without sending to service?
Thanks for any help

So, you can start recovery mode, as you said that you have done factory reset twice.
I think that download mode (Volume DOWN + Home + Power, then Volume UP for proceeding) will work too.
I suggest to flash stock ROM (as you want to connect to KIES) to your phone.
If you have not done it so far, please have a look at Intratech's Official Firmware thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
In the first post, he described the procedure very detailed and understandable IMO.
You can download latest official ROM from the second post or a Frankenstein ROM (is nearly the same as the official / stock ROM, but prepared for combining with any Modem and/or CSC files) from the third post.
I prefer Frankenstein ROMs.
Nearly every ROM in Intratech's thread is non-wipe.
Download and install Odin.
Put the downloaded ROM (extract it with 7zip will result in a tar or md5 file) into PDA section of Odin connect your phone started in download mode to the PC.
Wait for all phone drivers to become active (make sure that KIES is no longer running), and a yellow box will be shown in Odin.
Then just Start flashing the new ROM to your phone.
Once you have done it this way, you won't use KIES any more.
Good luck !
I did exactly as you said and Is working perfectly. I like it some much, so I decided to rooted and flashed with CyanogenMod, also went smothly, without any problmes.
Thanks again!
settings stopped working
I also have had the same problem after the latest update. I discovered yesterday , that if I disabled the blue tooth function, the settings stated working. I have repeatedly tried this, and it so far works everytime. When I turn the bluetooth back on, I again get the error message.

Impossible to download software update

Hi
I've got a message popping up every like 30mn when I'm not on wifi telling me "Network failure /!\ Disconneted from wifi. When wifi is connected, download will start again. for downloading thru mobile network, start download after unselecting only wifi. Can extra costs"
This happens since I've upgraded to latest firmware.
First of all, there is a two fold bug:
- Deselecting "only wifi" as it says still forbids me from downloading the "update" (impossible to continue the update without wifi connection). Cancel/Wifi Parameters
- As soon as I'm on wifi, I go in update, it searches and tells me "not update" ..
My Setup since I bought it:
S3
ChainFire 6.3 in Odin
Franco Kernel r8
Didn't get the OTA, but got it through kies (XXLFB)
--> I got this annoying message already (I'm nearly sure at this step)
Rooted with CF 6.4 in Odin
Still got the message
Only yesterday installed again Franco Kernel r10.
Still getting message
Any idea? Having this message once is ok but every 30mn is a pain.
And there's actually something wrong (telling me to disable only wifi which I have while later telling me only possible through wifi), unless I've missed something in the deep settings of the beast.
A+

As you are already rooted it`s best to update your phone with Odin, better yet Mobile Odin Pro as you keep root that way. If you have root explorer or something like it you could delete fotaclient. apk and fwupgrade.apk in system/apps or freeze them with Titanium Backup so you will not be bothered with these messages again.
I froze "Software Update v3_1206_1_1" and the popup is not showing again.
Curious to know why flashing with odin would make this popup not appear. I guess its the solution as I don't see much people having my problem. So mixing rooting and upgrade thru kies really not recommended?
Thank you for the help. Finally discovered what freezing meant

[Q] Update availble through phone but not showing in Kies

I know the title sounds similar to others, but I have not found the same problem.
When I search for updates via the phone, it shows that there is a new update (400MB+). Not wanting to kill my data usage, I turned on Kies.
Kies does not show the update. It's not that it CAN'T update, it just does not show that there is any firmware update.
It just shows that the firmware of the phone is the most current.
I know the update is quite recent (with the past 2 days), but wouldn't it also be available through Kies if it is available through the phone?
You need to either wait or ask Samsung or your vendor .

CanĀ“t update via Smart Switch

Hi everyone,
I am using the exynos S9+ and currently I am on the april build of SEE firmware. When checking via phone OTA it does not recognize that there is a new update out, but reading other peoples posts I saw that they updated via Smart Switch over PC.
I wanted to try that for the first time, and when I connect my phone it finds the update but I have troubles installing it. Whenever I try to install it Smart Switch gives me a message that there needs to be at least 20% of battery and that I need to charge my phone before I will be able to update it.
The think is, that my phone has 50%, 60%, 70% or even more battery and I still get the message.
Did anyone had the same issue and what could I do about it?
I have already tried re-installing Smart Switch, restarting my PC, restarting my Phone, other USB ports but it is still the same.
Thanks in advance.

Failed to register phone when trying to look for updates

I did a factory reset on my s9+ yesterday, and after that when i try to search for updates it tries to register my phone, but it fails everytime or just keeps trying forever. I tried connecting it to Kies but it won't recognize it. Idk what happened. It just won't let me check for any updates. It's an unlocked s9+ running on android 9.
